ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सति नामु करता पुरखु निरभउ निरवैरु अकाल मूरति अजूनी सैभं गुर प्रसादि ॥

ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
Thujh Thae Baahar Kishhoo N Hoe ||
तुझ ते बाहरि किछू न होइ ॥
Without You, nothing happens.
ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
Thoo Kar Kar Dhaekhehi Jaanehi Soe ||1||
तू करि करि देखहि जाणहि सोइ ॥१॥
You create the creatures, and gazing on them, you know them. ||1||
ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
Kiaa Keheeai Kishh Kehee N Jaae ||
किआ कहीऐ किछु कही न जाइ ॥
What can I say? I cannot say anything.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਅਹੈ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jo Kishh Ahai Sabh Thaeree Rajaae ||1|| Rehaao ||
जो किछु अहै सभ तेरी रजाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Whatever exists, is by Your Will. ||Pause||
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
Jo Kishh Karanaa S Thaerai Paas ||
जो किछु करणा सु तेरै पासि ॥
Whatever is to be done, rests with You.
ਕਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਕੀਚੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੨॥
Kis Aagai Keechai Aradhaas ||2||
किसु आगै कीचै अरदासि ॥२॥
Unto whom should I offer my prayer? ||2||
ਆਖਣੁ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
Aakhan Sunanaa Thaeree Baanee ||
आखणु सुनणा तेरी बाणी ॥
I speak and hear the Bani of Your Word.
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥੩॥
Thoo Aapae Jaanehi Sarab Viddaanee ||3||
तू आपे जाणहि सरब विडाणी ॥३॥
You Yourself know all Your Wondrous Play. ||3||
ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਿ ॥
Karae Karaaeae Jaanai Aap ||
करे कराए जाणै आपि ॥
You Yourself act, and inspire all to act; only You Yourself know.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਖੈ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ॥੪॥੧॥
Naanak Dhaekhai Thhaap Outhhaap ||4||1||
नानक देखै थापि उथापि ॥४॥१॥
Says Nanak, You, Lord, see, establish and disestablish. ||4||1||

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਰੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਦਿਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿ ਤਰੇ ॥
Gur Kai Sabadh Tharae Mun Kaethae Eindhraadhik Brehamaadh Tharae ||
गुर कै सबदि तरे मुनि केते इंद्रादिक ब्रहमादि तरे ॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, so many silent sages have been saved; Indra and Brahma have also been saved.
ਸਨਕ ਸਨੰਦਨ ਤਪਸੀ ਜਨ ਕੇਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰੇ ॥੧॥
Sanak Sanandhan Thapasee Jan Kaethae Gur Parasaadhee Paar Parae ||1||
सनक सनंदन तपसी जन केते गुर परसादी पारि परे ॥१॥
Sanak, Sanandan and many humble men of austerity, by Guru's Grace, have been carried across to the other side. ||1||
ਭਵਜਲੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਕਿਉ ਤਰੀਐ ॥
Bhavajal Bin Sabadhai Kio Thareeai ||
भवजलु बिनु सबदै किउ तरीऐ ॥
Without the Word of the Shabad, how can anyone cross over the terrifying world-ocean?
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਗੁ ਰੋਗਿ ਬਿਆਪਿਆ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਡੁਬਿ ਡੁਬਿ ਮਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Naam Binaa Jag Rog Biaapiaa Dhubidhhaa Ddub Ddub Mareeai ||1|| Rehaao ||
नाम बिना जगु रोगि बिआपिआ दुबिधा डुबि डुबि मरीऐ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the world is entangled in the disease of duality, and is drowned, drowned, and dies. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਵਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
Gur Dhaevaa Gur Alakh Abhaevaa Thribhavan Sojhee Gur Kee Saevaa ||
गुरु देवा गुरु अलख अभेवा त्रिभवण सोझी गुर की सेवा ॥
The Guru is Divine; the Guru is Inscrutable and Mysterious. Serving the Guru, the three worlds are known and understood.
ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਦਾਤੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ॥੨॥
Aapae Dhaath Karee Gur Dhaathai Paaeiaa Alakh Abhaevaa ||2||
आपे दाति करी गुरि दातै पाइआ अलख अभेवा ॥२॥
The Guru, the Giver, has Himself given me the Gift; I have obtained the Inscrutable, Mysterious Lord. ||2||
ਮਨੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
Man Raajaa Man Man Thae Maaniaa Manasaa Manehi Samaaee ||
मनु राजा मनु मन ते मानिआ मनसा मनहि समाई ॥
The mind is the king; the mind is appeased and satisfied through the mind itself, and desire is stilled in the mind.
ਮਨੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਬਿਓਗੀ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝੈ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈ ॥੩॥
Man Jogee Man Binas Biougee Man Samajhai Gun Gaaee ||3||
मनु जोगी मनु बिनसि बिओगी मनु समझै गुण गाई ॥३॥
The mind is the Yogi, the mind wastes away in separation from the Lord; singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, the mind is instructed and reformed. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿਆ ਤੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
Gur Thae Man Maariaa Sabadh Veechaariaa Thae Viralae Sansaaraa ||
गुर ते मनु मारिआ सबदु वीचारिआ ते विरले संसारा ॥
How very rare are those in this world who, through the Guru, subdue their minds, and contemplate the Word of the Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਲੀਣਾ ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੨॥
Naanak Saahib Bharipur Leenaa Saach Sabadh Nisathaaraa ||4||1||2||
नानक साहिबु भरिपुरि लीणा साच सबदि निसतारा ॥४॥१॥२॥
O Nanak, our Lord and Master is All-pervading; through the True Word of the Shabad, we are emancipated. ||4||1||2||

ਨੈਨੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨਹੀ ਤਨੁ ਹੀਨਾ ਜਰਿ ਜੀਤਿਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਲੋ ॥
Nainee Dhrisatt Nehee Than Heenaa Jar Jeethiaa Sir Kaalo ||
नैनी द्रिसटि नही तनु हीना जरि जीतिआ सिरि कालो ॥
The eyes lose their sight, and the body withers away; old age overtakes the mortal, and death hangs over his head.
ਰੂਪੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਰਹਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਕਿਉ ਛੋਡੈ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੋ ॥੧॥
Roop Rang Rehas Nehee Saachaa Kio Shhoddai Jam Jaalo ||1||
रूपु रंगु रहसु नही साचा किउ छोडै जम जालो ॥१॥
Beauty, loving attachment and the pleasures of life are not permanent. How can anyone escape from the noose of death? ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਇਓ ॥
