आपे सचा सबदि मिलाए ॥
The True Lord Himself unites us in the Word of His Shabad.
ਸਬਦੇ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
Sabadhae Vichahu Bharam Chukaaeae ||
सबदे विचहु भरमु चुकाए ॥
Within the Shabad, doubt is driven out.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੮॥੨੨॥
Naanak Naam Milai Vaddiaaee Naamae Hee Sukh Paaeidhaa ||16||8||22||
नानक नामि मिलै वडिआई नामे ही सुखु पाइदा ॥१६॥८॥२२॥
O Nanak, He blesses us with His Naam, and throgh the Naam, peace is found. ||16||8||22||

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥
Agam Agochar Vaeparavaahae ||
अगम अगोचर वेपरवाहे ॥
He is inaccessible, unfathomable and self-sustaining.
ਆਪੇ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹੇ ॥
Aapae Miharavaan Agam Athhaahae ||
आपे मिहरवान अगम अथाहे ॥
He Himself is merciful, inaccessible and unlimited.
ਅਪੜਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
Aparr Koe N Sakai This No Gur Sabadhee Maelaaeiaa ||1||
अपड़ि कोइ न सकै तिस नो गुर सबदी मेलाइआ ॥१॥
No one can reach up to Him; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is met. ||1||
ਤੁਧੁਨੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ॥
Thudhhuno Saevehi Jo Thudhh Bhaavehi ||
तुधुनो सेवहि जो तुधु भावहि ॥
He alone serves You, who pleases You.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ॥
Gur Kai Sabadhae Sach Samaavehi ||
गुर कै सबदे सचि समावहि ॥
Through the Guru's Shabad, he merges in the True Lord.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
Anadhin Gun Ravehi Dhin Raathee Rasanaa Har Ras Bhaaeiaa ||2||
अनदिनु गुण रवहि दिनु राती रसना हरि रसु भाइआ ॥२॥
Night and day, he chants the Lord's Praises, day and night; his tongue savors and delights in the sublime essence of the Lord. ||2||
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਸੇ ਮਰਣੁ ਸਵਾਰਹਿ ॥
Sabadh Marehi Sae Maran Savaarehi ||
सबदि मरहि से मरणु सवारहि ॥
Those who die in the Shabad - their death is exalted and glorified.
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਹਿ ॥
Har Kae Gun Hiradhai Our Dhhaarehi ||
हरि के गुण हिरदै उर धारहि ॥
They enshrine the Lord's Glories in their hearts.
ਜਨਮੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
Janam Safal Har Charanee Laagae Dhoojaa Bhaao Chukaaeiaa ||3||
जनमु सफलु हरि चरणी लागे दूजा भाउ चुकाइआ ॥३॥
Holding tight to the Guru's feet, their lives becomes prosperous, and they are rid of the love of duality. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਲੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
Har Jeeo Maelae Aap Milaaeae ||
हरि जीउ मेले आपि मिलाए ॥
The Dear Lord unites them in Union with Himself.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
Gur Kai Sabadhae Aap Gavaaeae ||
गुर कै सबदे आपु गवाए ॥
Through the Guru's Shabad, self-conceit is dispelled.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤੇ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
Anadhin Sadhaa Har Bhagathee Raathae Eis Jag Mehi Laahaa Paaeiaa ||4||
अनदिनु सदा हरि भगती राते इसु जग महि लाहा पाइआ ॥४॥
Those who remain attuned to devotional worship to the Lord, night and day, earn the profit in this world. ||4||
ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਾ ਮੈ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
Thaerae Gun Kehaa Mai Kehan N Jaaee ||
तेरे गुण कहा मै कहणु न जाई ॥
What Glorious Virtues of Yours should I describe? I cannot describe them.
ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
Anth N Paaraa Keemath Nehee Paaee ||
अंतु न पारा कीमति नही पाई ॥
You have no end or limitation. Your value cannot be estimated.
ਆਪੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
Aapae Dhaeiaa Karae Sukhadhaathaa Gun Mehi Gunee Samaaeiaa ||5||
आपे दइआ करे सुखदाता गुण महि गुणी समाइआ ॥५॥
When the Giver of peace Himself bestows His Mercy, the virtuous are absorbed in virtue. ||5||
ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
Eis Jag Mehi Mohu Hai Paasaaraa ||
इसु जग महि मोहु है पासारा ॥
In this world, emotional attachment is spread all over.
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥
Manamukh Agiaanee Andhh Andhhaaraa ||
मनमुखु अगिआनी अंधु अंधारा ॥
The ignorant, self-willed manmukh is immersed in utter darkness.
ਧੰਧੈ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
Dhhandhhai Dhhaavath Janam Gavaaeiaa Bin Naavai Dhukh Paaeiaa ||6||
धंधै धावतु जनमु गवाइआ बिनु नावै दुखु पाइआ ॥६॥
Chasing after worldly affairs, he wastes away his life in vain; without the Name, he suffers in pain. ||6||
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Karam Hovai Thaa Sathigur Paaeae ||
करमु होवै ता सतिगुरु पाए ॥
If God grants His Grace, then one finds the True Guru.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥
Houmai Mail Sabadh Jalaaeae ||
हउमै मैलु सबदि जलाए ॥
Through the Shabad, the filth of egotism is burned away.
ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੭॥
Man Niramal Giaan Rathan Chaanan Agiaan Andhhaer Gavaaeiaa ||7||
मनु निरमलु गिआनु रतनु चानणु अगिआनु अंधेरु गवाइआ ॥७॥
The mind becomes immaculate, and the jewel of spiritual wisdom brings enlightenment; the darkness of spiritual ignorance is dispelled. ||7||
ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਅਨੇਕ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
Thaerae Naam Anaek Keemath Nehee Paaee ||
तेरे नाम अनेक कीमति नही पाई ॥
Your Names are countless; Your value cannot be estimated.
ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
Sach Naam Har Hiradhai Vasaaee ||
सचु नामु हरि हिरदै वसाई ॥
I enshrine the Lord's True Name within my heart.
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਉਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੮॥
Keemath Koun Karae Prabh Thaeree Thoo Aapae Sehaj Samaaeiaa ||8||
कीमति कउणु करे प्रभ तेरी तू आपे सहजि समाइआ ॥८॥
Who can estimate Your value, God? You are immersed and absorbed in Yourself. ||8||
ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
Naam Amolak Agam Apaaraa ||
नामु अमोलकु अगम अपारा ॥
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is priceless, inaccessible and infinite.
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਆ ਤੋਲਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
Naa Ko Hoaa Tholanehaaraa ||
ना को होआ तोलणहारा ॥
No one can weigh it.
ਆਪੇ ਤੋਲੇ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਇਆ ॥੯॥
Aapae Tholae Thol Tholaaeae Gur Sabadhee Mael Tholaaeiaa ||9||
आपे तोले तोलि तोलाए गुर सबदी मेलि तोलाइआ ॥९॥
You Yourself weigh, and estimate all; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, You unite, when the weight is perfect. ||9||
ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
Saevak Saevehi Karehi Aradhaas ||
सेवक सेवहि करहि अरदासि ॥
Your servant serves, and offers this prayer.
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਬਹਾਲਹਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
Thoo Aapae Mael Behaalehi Paas ||
तू आपे मेलि बहालहि पासि ॥
Please, let me sit near You, and unite me with Yourself.
ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧੦॥
Sabhanaa Jeeaa Kaa Sukhadhaathaa Poorai Karam Dhhiaaeiaa ||10||
सभना जीआ का सुखदाता पूरै करमि धिआइआ ॥१०॥
You are the Giver of peace to all beings; by perfect karma, we meditate on You. ||10||
ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਜਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
Jath Sath Sanjam J Sach Kamaavai ||
जतु सतु संजमु जि सचु कमावै ॥
Chastity, truth and self-control come by practicing and living the Truth.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
Eihu Man Niramal J Har Gun Gaavai ||
इहु मनु निरमलु जि हरि गुण गावै ॥
This mind becomes immaculate and pure, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਇਸੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੧੧॥
Eis Bikh Mehi Anmrith Paraapath Hovai Har Jeeo Maerae Bhaaeiaa ||11||
इसु बिखु महि अम्रितु परापति होवै हरि जीउ मेरे भाइआ ॥११॥
In this world of poison, the Ambrosial Nectar is obtained, if it pleases my Dear Lord. ||11||
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
Jis No Bujhaaeae Soee Boojhai ||
जिस नो बुझाए सोई बूझै ॥
He alone understands, whom God inspires to understand.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਅੰਦਰੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
Har Gun Gaavai Andhar Soojhai ||
हरि गुण गावै अंदरु सूझै ॥
Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, one's inner being is awakened.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੨॥
Houmai Maeraa Thaak Rehaaeae Sehajae Hee Sach Paaeiaa ||12||
हउमै मेरा ठाकि रहाए सहजे ही सचु पाइआ ॥१२॥
Egotism and possessiveness are silenced and subdued, and one intuitively finds the True Lord. ||12||
ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਹੋਰ ਫਿਰੈ ਘਨੇਰੀ ॥
Bin Karamaa Hor Firai Ghanaeree ||
बिनु करमा होर फिरै घनेरी ॥
Without good karma, countless others wander around.
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਚੁਕੈ ਨ ਫੇਰੀ ॥
Mar Mar Janmai Chukai N Faeree ||
मरि मरि जमै चुकै न फेरी ॥
They die, and die again, only to be reborn; they cannot escape the cycle of reincarnation.
ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਰਾਤਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੩॥
Bikh Kaa Raathaa Bikh Kamaavai Sukh N Kabehoo Paaeiaa ||13||
बिखु का राता बिखु कमावै सुखु न कबहू पाइआ ॥१३॥
Imbued with poison, they practice poison and corruption, and they never find peace. ||13||
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੇ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥
Bahuthae Bhaekh Karae Bhaekhadhhaaree ||
बहुते भेख करे भेखधारी ॥
Many disguise themselves with religious robes.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਮਾਰੀ ॥
Bin Sabadhai Houmai Kinai N Maaree ||
बिनु सबदै हउमै किनै न मारी ॥
Without the Shabad, no one has conquered egotism.
ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੪॥
Jeevath Marai Thaa Mukath Paaeae Sachai Naae Samaaeiaa ||14||
जीवतु मरै ता मुकति पाए सचै नाइ समाइआ ॥१४॥
One who remains dead while yet alive is liberated, and merges in the True Name. ||14||
ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਇਸੁ ਤਨਹਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥
Agiaan Thrisanaa Eis Thanehi Jalaaeae ||
अगिआनु त्रिसना इसु तनहि जलाए ॥
Spiritual ignorance and desire burn this human body.
