ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
Karam Hovai Gur Kirapaa Karai ||
करमु होवै गुरु किरपा करै ॥
When the mortal has good karma, the Guru grants His Grace.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਰੈ ॥੪॥
Eihu Man Jaagai Eis Man Kee Dhubidhhaa Marai ||4||
इहु मनु जागै इसु मन की दुबिधा मरै ॥४॥
Then this mind is awakened, and the duality of this mind is subdued. ||4||
ਮਨ ਕਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥
Man Kaa Subhaao Sadhaa Bairaagee ||
मन का सुभाउ सदा बैरागी ॥
It is the innate nature of the mind to remain forever detached.
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਸੈ ਅਤੀਤੁ ਅਨਰਾਗੀ ॥੫॥
Sabh Mehi Vasai Atheeth Anaraagee ||5||
सभ महि वसै अतीतु अनरागी ॥५॥
The Detached, Dispassionate Lord dwells within all. ||5||
ਕਹਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਭੇਉ ॥
Kehath Naanak Jo Jaanai Bhaeo ||
कहत नानकु जो जाणै भेउ ॥
Says Nanak, one who understands this mystery,
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇਉ ॥੬॥੫॥

आदि पुरखु निरंजन देउ ॥६॥५॥
Becomes the embodiment of the Primal, Immaculate, Divine Lord God. ||6||5||

The world is saved through Name of the Lord.
ਭਵਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
Bhavajal Paar Outhaaranehaaraa ||1||
भवजलु पारि उतारणहारा ॥१॥
It carries the mortal across the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿ ॥

गुर परसादी हरि नामु सम्हालि ॥
By Guru's Grace, dwell upon the Lord's Name.
ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सद ही निबहै तेरै नालि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥
Naam N Chaethehi Manamukh Gaavaaraa ||
नामु न चेतहि मनमुख गावारा ॥
The foolish self-willed manmukhs do not remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਪਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
Bin Naavai Kaisae Paavehi Paaraa ||2||
बिनु नावै कैसे पावहि पारा ॥२॥
Without the Name, how will they cross over? ||2||
ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
Aapae Dhaath Karae Dhaathaar ||
आपे दाति करे दातारु ॥
The Lord, the Great Giver, Himself gives His Gifts.
ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੇ ਕਉ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
Dhaevanehaarae Ko Jaikaar ||3||
देवणहारे कउ जैकारु ॥३॥
Celebrate and praise the Great Giver! ||3||
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
Nadhar Karae Sathiguroo Milaaeae ||
नदरि करे सतिगुरू मिलाए ॥
Granting His Grace, the Lord unites the mortals with the True Guru.

All people are saved through the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

गुरमुखि जिना परापति होइ ॥१॥
Those who become Gurmukh are blessed to receive It. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਅਪਣੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇਇ ॥

हरि जीउ अपणी क्रिपा करेइ ॥
When the Dear Lord showers His Mercy,

राम नामि जिन प्रीति पिआरु ॥
Those who love the Beloved Name of the Lord
ਆਪਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
Aap Oudhharae Sabh Kul Oudhhaaranehaar ||2||
आपि उधरे सभि कुल उधारणहारु ॥२॥
Save themselves, and save all their ancestors. ||2||
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
Bin Naavai Manamukh Jam Pur Jaahi ||
बिनु नावै मनमुख जम पुरि जाहि ॥
Without the Name, the self-willed manmukhs go to the City of Death.
ਅਉਖੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
Aoukhae Hovehi Chottaa Khaahi ||3||
अउखे होवहि चोटा खाहि ॥३॥
They suffer in pain and endure beatings. ||3||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
Aapae Karathaa Dhaevai Soe ||
आपे करता देवै सोइ ॥
When the Creator Himself gives,
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੭॥

नानक नामु परापति होइ ॥४॥७॥
O Nanak, then the mortals receive the Naam. ||4||7||

Love of the Lord of the Universe saved Sanak and his brother, the sons of Brahma.

हरि जीउ अपणी किरपा धारु ॥
O Dear Lord, please shower me with Your Mercy,

अंतरि प्रीति भगति साची होइ ॥
Whoever has true loving devotional worship deep within his being
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
Poorai Gur Maelaavaa Hoe ||2||
पूरै गुरि मेलावा होइ ॥२॥
Meets the Lord, through the Perfect Guru. ||2||
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
Nij Ghar Vasai Sehaj Subhaae ||
निज घरि वसै सहजि सुभाइ ॥
He naturally, intuitively dwells within the home of his own inner being.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੩॥
Guramukh Naam Vasai Man Aae ||3||
गुरमुखि नामु वसै मनि आइ ॥३॥
The Naam abides within the mind of the Gurmukh. ||3||
ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਵੇਖਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
Aapae Vaekhai Vaekhanehaar ||
आपे वेखै वेखणहारु ॥
The Lord, the Seer, Himself sees.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੪॥੮॥

नानक नामु रखहु उर धारि ॥४॥८॥

बिनु नावै माथै पावै छारु ॥१॥
Without the Name, ashes will be blown in your face. ||1||

Raam Naam Dhulabh Hai Bhaaee ||
राम नामु दुलभु है भाई ॥
The Lord's Name is so difficult to obtain, O Siblings of Destiny.

राम नामु जन भालहि सोइ ॥
That humble being who seeks the Lord's Name
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
Poorae Gur Thae Praapath Hoe ||2||
पूरे गुर ते प्रापति होइ ॥२॥
Receives it from the Perfect Guru. ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
Har Kaa Bhaanaa Mannehi Sae Jan Paravaan ||
हरि का भाणा मंनहि से जन परवाणु ॥
Those humble beings who accept the Will of the Lord, are approved and accepted.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਾਮ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੩॥
Gur Kai Sabadh Naam Neesaan ||3||
गुर कै सबदि नाम नीसाणु ॥३॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they bear the insignia of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||3||
ਸੋ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਜੋ ਕਲ ਰਹਿਆ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
So Saevahu Jo Kal Rehiaa Dhhaar ||
सो सेवहु जो कल रहिआ धारि ॥
So serve the One, whose power supports the Universe.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੪॥੯॥

नानक गुरमुखि नामु पिआरि ॥४॥९॥

In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, many rituals are performed.
ਨਾ ਰੁਤਿ ਨ ਕਰਮ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
Naa Ruth N Karam Thhaae Paahi ||1||
ना रुति न करम थाइ पाहि ॥१॥
But it is not the time for them, and so they are of no use. ||1||
ਕਲਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
Kalajug Mehi Raam Naam Hai Saar ||
कलजुग महि राम नामु है सारु ॥
In Kali Yuga, the Lord's Name is the most sublime.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Than Man Khoj Gharai Mehi Paaeiaa ||
तनु मनु खोजि घरै महि पाइआ ॥
Searching my body and mind, I found Him within the home of my own heart.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

गुरमुखि राम नामि चितु लाइआ ॥२॥
