नानक हउमै मारि पतीणे तारा चड़िआ लमा ॥१॥
O Nanak, killing his ego, he is satisfied; the meteor has shot across the sky. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਗਿ ਰਹੇ ਚੂਕੀ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
Guramukh Jaag Rehae Chookee Abhimaanee Raam ||
गुरमुखि जागि रहे चूकी अभिमानी राम ॥
The Gurmukhs remain awake and aware; their egotistical pride is eradicated.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭੋਰੁ ਭਇਆ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
Anadhin Bhor Bhaeiaa Saach Samaanee Raam ||
अनदिनु भोरु भइआ साचि समानी राम ॥
Night and day, it is dawn for them; they merge in the True Lord.
ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਬਤੁ ਜਾਗੇ ॥
Saach Samaanee Guramukh Man Bhaanee Guramukh Saabath Jaagae ||
साचि समानी गुरमुखि मनि भानी गुरमुखि साबतु जागे ॥
The Gurmukhs are merged in the True Lord; they are pleasing to His Mind. The Gurmukhs are intact, safe and sound, awake and awake.
ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
Saach Naam Anmrith Gur Dheeaa Har Charanee Liv Laagae ||
साचु नामु अम्रितु गुरि दीआ हरि चरनी लिव लागे ॥
The Guru blesses them with the Ambrosial Nectar of the True Name; they are lovingly attuned to the Lord's Feet.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀ ॥
Pragattee Joth Joth Mehi Jaathaa Manamukh Bharam Bhulaanee ||
प्रगटी जोति जोति महि जाता मनमुखि भरमि भुलाणी ॥
The Divine Light is revealed, and in that Light, they achieve realization; the self-willed manmukhs wander in doubt and confusion.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੋਰੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਜਾਗਤ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ॥੨॥

नानक भोरु भइआ मनु मानिआ जागत रैणि विहाणी ॥२॥
O Nanak, when the dawn breaks, their minds are satisfied; they pass their life-night awake and aware. ||2||
ਅਉਗਣ ਵੀਸਰਿਆ ਗੁਣੀ ਘਰੁ ਕੀਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
Aougan Veesariaa Gunee Ghar Keeaa Raam ||
अउगण वीसरिआ गुणी घरु कीआ राम ॥
Forgetting faults and demerits, virtue and merit enter one's home.
ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਬੀਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
Eaeko Rav Rehiaa Avar N Beeaa Raam ||
एको रवि रहिआ अवरु न बीआ राम ॥
The One Lord is permeating everywhere; there is no other at all.
ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੋਈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
Rav Rehiaa Soee Avar N Koee Man Hee Thae Man Maaniaa ||
रवि रहिआ सोई अवरु न कोई मन ही ते मनु मानिआ ॥
He is All-pervading; there is no other. The mind comes to believe, from the mind.
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਲ ਥਲ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਘਟੁ ਘਟੁ ਥਾਪਿਆ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
Jin Jal Thhal Thribhavan Ghatt Ghatt Thhaapiaa So Prabh Guramukh Jaaniaa ||
जिनि जल थल त्रिभवण घटु घटु थापिआ सो प्रभु गुरमुखि जानिआ ॥
The One who established the water, the land, the three worlds, each and every heart - that God is known by the Gurmukh.
ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮੇਟਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
Karan Kaaran Samarathh Apaaraa Thribidhh Maett Samaaee ||
करण कारण समरथ अपारा त्रिबिधि मेटि समाई ॥
The Infinite, All-powerful Lord is the Creator, the Cause of causes; erasing the three-phased Maya, we merge in Him.
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਵਗਣ ਗੁਣਹ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਐਸੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥

नानक अवगण गुणह समाणे ऐसी गुरमति पाई ॥३॥
O Nanak, then, demerits are dissolved by merits; such are the Guru's Teachings. ||3||
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣ ਰਹੇ ਚੂਕਾ ਭੋਲਾ ਰਾਮ ॥

आवण जाण रहे चूका भोला राम ॥
My coming and going in reincarnation have ended; doubt and hesitation are gone.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਚੋਲਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
Houmai Maar Milae Saachaa Cholaa Raam ||
हउमै मारि मिले साचा चोला राम ॥
Conquering my ego, I have met the True Lord, and now I wear the robe of Truth.
ਹਉਮੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ਚੂਕੇ ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥
Houmai Gur Khoee Paragatt Hoee Chookae Sog Santhaapai ||
हउमै गुरि खोई परगटु होई चूके सोग संतापै ॥
The Guru has rid me of egotism; my sorrow and suffering are dispelled.
ਜੋਤੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਆਪੈ ॥
Jothee Andhar Joth Samaanee Aap Pashhaathaa Aapai ||
जोती अंदरि जोति समाणी आपु पछाता आपै ॥
My might merges into the Light; I realize and understand my own self.
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਘਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਤੀਣੀ ਸਾਹੁਰੜੈ ਪਿਰ ਭਾਣੀ ॥
Paeeearrai Ghar Sabadh Patheenee Saahurarrai Pir Bhaanee ||
पेईअड़ै घरि सबदि पतीणी साहुरड़ै पिर भाणी ॥
In this world of my parents' home, I am satisfied with the Shabad; at my in-laws' home, in the world beyond, I shall be pleasing to my Husband Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਚੂਕੀ ਕਾਣਿ ਲੋਕਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੩॥

भोलावड़ै भुली भुलि भुलि पछोताणी ॥
Deluded by doubt, misled and confused, the soul-bride later regrets and repents.
ਪਿਰਿ ਛੋਡਿਅੜੀ ਸੁਤੀ ਪਿਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
Pir Shhoddiarree Suthee Pir Kee Saar N Jaanee ||
पिरि छोडिअड़ी सुती पिर की सार न जाणी ॥
Abandoning her Husband Lord, she sleeps, and does not appreciate His Worth.
ਪਿਰਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਸੁਤੀ ਅਵਗਣਿ ਮੁਤੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਧਨ ਵਿਧਣ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
Pir Shhoddee Suthee Avagan Muthee This Dhhan Vidhhan Raathae ||
पिरि छोडी सुती अवगणि मुती तिसु धन विधण राते ॥
Leaving her Husband Lord, she sleeps, and is plundered by her faults and demerits. The night is so painful for this bride.
ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਵਿਗੁਤੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਲਗੀ ਤਾਤੇ ॥
Kaam Krodhh Ahankaar Viguthee Houmai Lagee Thaathae ||
कामि क्रोधि अहंकारि विगुती हउमै लगी ताते ॥
Sexual desire, anger and egotism destroy her. She burns in egotism.
ਉਡਰਿ ਹੰਸੁ ਚਲਿਆ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ਭਸਮੈ ਭਸਮ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
Ouddar Hans Chaliaa Furamaaeiaa Bhasamai Bhasam Samaanee ||
उडरि हंसु चलिआ फुरमाइआ भसमै भसम समाणी ॥
When the soul-swan flies away, by the Command of the Lord, her dust mingles with dust.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣੀ ਭੁਲਿ ਭੁਲਿ ਪਛੋਤਾਣੀ ॥੧॥

नानक सचे नाम विहूणी भुलि भुलि पछोताणी ॥१॥
O Nanak, without the True Name, she is confused and deluded, and so she regrets and repents. ||1||

सुणि नाह पिआरे इक बेनंती मेरी ॥

ਤੂ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਅੜਾ ਹਉ ਰੁਲਿ ਭਸਮੈ ਢੇਰੀ ॥
Thoo Nij Ghar Vasiarraa Ho Rul Bhasamai Dtaeree ||
तू निज घरि वसिअड़ा हउ रुलि भसमै ढेरी ॥
You dwell in the home of the self deep within, while I roll around like a dust-ball.
ਬਿਨੁ ਅਪਨੇ ਨਾਹੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਚਾਹੈ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਿਆ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
Bin Apanae Naahai Koe N Chaahai Kiaa Keheeai Kiaa Keejai ||
बिनु अपने नाहै कोइ न चाहै किआ कहीऐ किआ कीजै ॥
Without my Husband Lord, no one likes me at all; what can I say or do now?
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਨ ਰਸੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥
Anmrith Naam Rasan Ras Rasanaa Gur Sabadhee Ras Peejai ||
अम्रित नामु रसन रसु रसना गुर सबदी रसु पीजै ॥
The Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the sweetest nectar of nectars. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, with my tongue, I drink in this nectar.
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਸਾਥੀ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਘਨੇਰੀ ॥
Vin Naavai Ko Sang N Saathhee Aavai Jaae Ghanaeree ||
विणु नावै को संगि न साथी आवै जाइ घनेरी ॥
Without the Name, no one has any friend or companion; millions come and go in reincarnation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਚੁ ਮਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥੨॥
Naanak Laahaa Lai Ghar Jaaeeai Saachee Sach Math Thaeree ||2||
नानक लाहा लै घरि जाईऐ साची सचु मति तेरी ॥२॥
Nanak: the profit is earned and the soul returns home. True, true are Your Teachings. ||2||
ਸਾਜਨ ਦੇਸਿ ਵਿਦੇਸੀਅੜੇ ਸਾਨੇਹੜੇ ਦੇਦੀ ॥
Saajan Dhaes Vidhaeseearrae Saanaeharrae Dhaedhee ||
साजन देसि विदेसीअड़े सानेहड़े देदी ॥
O Friend, You have travelled so far from Your homeland; I send my message of love to You.
ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਲੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਜਣਾ ਮੁੰਧ ਨੈਣ ਭਰੇਦੀ ॥
Saar Samaalae Thin Sajanaa Mundhh Nain Bharaedhee ||
सारि समाले तिन सजणा मुंध नैण भरेदी ॥
I cherish and remember that Friend; the eyes of this soul-bride are filled with tears.

मारगु पंथु न जाणउ विखड़ा किउ पाईऐ पिरु पारे ॥
I do not know the treacherous path, the way to You. How can I find You and cross over, O my Husband Lord?
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੀ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਆਗੈ ਰਾਖੈ ॥
Sathigur Sabadhee Milai Vishhunnee Than Man Aagai Raakhai ||
सतिगुर सबदी मिलै विछुंनी तनु मनु आगै राखै ॥
Through the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru, the separated soul-bride meets with the Lord; I place my body and mind before You.

नानक अम्रित बिरखु महा रस फलिआ मिलि प्रीतम रसु चाखै ॥३॥
O Nanak, the ambrosial tree bears the most delicious fruits; meeting with my Beloved, I taste the sweet essence. ||3||
