गुरु सिमरत जम संगि न फासहि ॥
Meditating in remembrance on the Guru, one is not strangled by the noose of Death.
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਾਟੇ ਅਪਮਾਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
Gur Simarath Man Niramal Hovai Gur Kaattae Apamaanaa Hae ||2||
गुरु सिमरत मनु निरमलु होवै गुरु काटे अपमाना हे ॥२॥
Meditating in remembrance on the Guru, the mind becomes immaculate; the Guru eliminates egotistical pride. ||2||
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਨਰਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥

गुर का सेवकु नरकि न जाए ॥
The Guru's servant is not consigned to hell.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥

गुर का सेवकु पारब्रहमु धिआए ॥
The Guru's servant meditates on the Supreme Lord God.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਦਾ ਨਿਤ ਜੀਅ ਦਾਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
Gur Kaa Saevak Saadhhasang Paaeae Gur Karadhaa Nith Jeea Dhaanaa Hae ||3||
गुर का सेवकु साधसंगु पाए गुरु करदा नित जीअ दाना हे ॥३॥
The Guru's servant joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; the Guru ever gives the life of the soul. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਸੁਣੀਐ ॥
Gur Dhuaarai Har Keerathan Suneeai ||
गुर दुआरै हरि कीरतनु सुणीऐ ॥
At the Gurdwara, the Guru's Gate, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਭਣੀਐ ॥
Sathigur Bhaett Har Jas Mukh Bhaneeai ||
सतिगुरु भेटि हरि जसु मुखि भणीऐ ॥
Meeting with the True Guru, one chants the Lord's Praises.
ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਮਿਟਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਦੇਵੈ ਮਾਨਾਂ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
Kal Kalaes Mittaaeae Sathigur Har Dharageh Dhaevai Maanaan Hae ||4||
कलि कलेस मिटाए सतिगुरु हरि दरगह देवै मानां हे ॥४॥
The True Guru eradicates sorrow and suffering, and bestows honor in the Court of the Lord. ||4||
ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
Agam Agochar Guroo Dhikhaaeiaa ||
अगमु अगोचरु गुरू दिखाइआ ॥
The Guru has revealed the inaccessible and unfathomable Lord.
ਭੂਲਾ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Bhoolaa Maarag Sathigur Paaeiaa ||
भूला मारगि सतिगुरि पाइआ ॥
The True Guru returns to the Path, those who have wandered away.
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਭਗਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਰ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਇਆ ਗਿਆਨਾਂ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
Gur Saevak Ko Bighan N Bhagathee Har Poor Dhrirrhaaeiaa Giaanaan Hae ||5||
गुर सेवक कउ बिघनु न भगती हरि पूर द्रिड़्हाइआ गिआनां हे ॥५॥
No obstacles stand in the way of devotion to the Lord, for one who serves the Guru. The Guru implants perfect spiritual wisdom. ||5||
ਗੁਰਿ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਇਆ ਸਭਨੀ ਠਾਂਈ ॥
Gur Dhrisattaaeiaa Sabhanee Thaanee ||
गुरि द्रिसटाइआ सभनी ठांई ॥
The Guru has revealed the Lord everywhere.
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਗੋਸਾਈ ॥
Jal Thhal Poor Rehiaa Gosaaee ||
जलि थलि पूरि रहिआ गोसाई ॥
The Lord of the Universe is permeating and pervading the water and the land.
ਊਚ ਊਨ ਸਭ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਨਾਂ ਮਨਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
Ooch Oon Sabh Eaek Samaanaan Man Laagaa Sehaj Dhhiaanaa Hae ||6||
ऊच ऊन सभ एक समानां मनि लागा सहजि धिआना हे ॥६॥
The high and the low are all the same to Him. Focus your mind's meditation intuitively on Him. ||6||
ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸਭ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
Gur Miliai Sabh Thrisan Bujhaaee ||
गुरि मिलिऐ सभ त्रिसन बुझाई ॥
Meeting with the Guru, all thirst is quenched.
ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਨਹ ਜੋਹੈ ਮਾਈ ॥
Gur Miliai Neh Johai Maaee ||
गुरि मिलिऐ नह जोहै माई ॥
Meeting with the Guru, one is not watched by Maya.
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਦੀਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀ ਪਾਨਾਂ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
Sath Santhokh Dheeaa Gur Poorai Naam Anmrith Pee Paanaan Hae ||7||
सतु संतोखु दीआ गुरि पूरै नामु अम्रितु पी पानां हे ॥७॥
The Perfect Guru bestows truth and contentment; I drink in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||7||
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਭ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
Gur Kee Baanee Sabh Maahi Samaanee ||
गुर की बाणी सभ माहि समाणी ॥
The Word of the Guru's Bani is contained in all.
ਆਪਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
Aap Sunee Thai Aap Vakhaanee ||
आपि सुणी तै आपि वखाणी ॥
He Himself hears it, and He Himself repeats it.
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਪੀ ਤੇਈ ਸਭਿ ਨਿਸਤ੍ਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਥਾਨਾਂ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
Jin Jin Japee Thaeee Sabh Nisathrae Thin Paaeiaa Nihachal Thhaanaan Hae ||8||
जिनि जिनि जपी तेई सभि निसत्रे तिन पाइआ निहचल थानां हे ॥८॥
Those who meditate on it, are all emancipated; they attain the eternal and unchanging home. ||8||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

सतिगुर की महिमा सतिगुरु जाणै ॥
The Glory of the True Guru is known only to the True Guru.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਆਪਣ ਭਾਣੈ ॥
Jo Kishh Karae S Aapan Bhaanai ||
जो किछु करे सु आपण भाणै ॥
Whatever He does, is according to the Pleasure of His Will.
ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਿ ਜਾਚਹਿ ਜਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨਾਂ ਹੇ ॥੯॥੧॥੪॥
Saadhhoo Dhhoor Jaachehi Jan Thaerae Naanak Sadh Kurabaanaan Hae ||9||1||4||
साधू धूरि जाचहि जन तेरे नानक सद कुरबानां हे ॥९॥१॥४॥
Your humble servants beg for the dust of the feet of the Holy; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||9||1||4||

आदि निरंजनु प्रभु निरंकारा ॥
The Primal, Immaculate Lord God is formless.
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਾਰਾ ॥
Sabh Mehi Varathai Aap Niraaraa ||
सभ महि वरतै आपि निरारा ॥
The Detached Lord is Himself prevailing in all.
ਵਰਨੁ ਜਾਤਿ ਚਿਹਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਸਭ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
Varan Jaath Chihan Nehee Koee Sabh Hukamae Srisatt Oupaaeidhaa ||1||
वरनु जाति चिहनु नही कोई सभ हुकमे स्रिसटि उपाइदा ॥१॥
He has no race or social class, no identifying mark. By the Hukam of His Will, He created the entire universe. ||1||
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੋਨਿ ਸਬਾਈ ॥
Lakh Chouraaseeh Jon Sabaaee ||
लख चउरासीह जोनि सबाई ॥
Out of all the 8.4 million species of beings,
ਮਾਣਸ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਦੀਈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
Maanas Ko Prabh Dheeee Vaddiaaee ||
माणस कउ प्रभि दीई वडिआई ॥
God blessed mankind with glory.
ਇਸੁ ਪਉੜੀ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਨਰੁ ਚੂਕੈ ਸੋ ਆਇ ਜਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
Eis Pourree Thae Jo Nar Chookai So Aae Jaae Dhukh Paaeidhaa ||2||
इसु पउड़ी ते जो नरु चूकै सो आइ जाइ दुखु पाइदा ॥२॥
That human who misses this chance, shall suffer the pains of coming and going in reincarnation. ||2||
ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ॥
Keethaa Hovai This Kiaa Keheeai ||
कीता होवै तिसु किआ कहीऐ ॥
What should I say, to one who has been created.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਲਹੀਐ ॥
Guramukh Naam Padhaarathh Leheeai ||
गुरमुखि नामु पदारथु लहीऐ ॥
The Gurmukh receives the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਭੂਲੈ ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥
Jis Aap Bhulaaeae Soee Bhoolai So Boojhai Jisehi Bujhaaeidhaa ||3||
जिसु आपि भुलाए सोई भूलै सो बूझै जिसहि बुझाइदा ॥३॥
He alone is confused, whom the Lord Himself confuses. He alone understands, whom the Lord inspires to understand. ||3||
ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਕਾ ਨਗਰੁ ਇਹੁ ਕੀਆ ॥
Harakh Sog Kaa Nagar Eihu Keeaa ||
हरख सोग का नगरु इहु कीआ ॥
This body has been made the village of joy and sorrow.
ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣੀਆ ॥
Sae Oubarae Jo Sathigur Saraneeaa ||
से उबरे जो सतिगुर सरणीआ ॥
They alone are emancipated, who seek the Sanctuary of the True Guru.
ਤ੍ਰਿਹਾ ਗੁਣਾ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਰਾ ਸੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
Thrihaa Gunaa Thae Rehai Niraaraa So Guramukh Sobhaa Paaeidhaa ||4||
त्रिहा गुणा ते रहै निरारा सो गुरमुखि सोभा पाइदा ॥४॥
One who remains untouched by the three qualities, the three gunas - such a Gurmukh is blessed with glory. ||4||
ਅਨਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਏ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ॥
Anik Karam Keeeae Bahuthaerae ||
अनिक करम कीए बहुतेरे ॥
You can do anything, but whatever you do,
ਜੋ ਕੀਜੈ ਸੋ ਬੰਧਨੁ ਪੈਰੇ ॥
Jo Keejai So Bandhhan Pairae ||
जो कीजै सो बंधनु पैरे ॥
Only serves to tie your feet.
ਕੁਰੁਤਾ ਬੀਜੁ ਬੀਜੇ ਨਹੀ ਜੰਮੈ ਸਭੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਗਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
Kuruthaa Beej Beejae Nehee Janmai Sabh Laahaa Mool Gavaaeidhaa ||5||
कुरुता बीजु बीजे नही जमै सभु लाहा मूलु गवाइदा ॥५॥
The seed which is planted out of season does not sprout, and all one's capital and profits are lost. ||5||
ਕਲਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਪਰਧਾਨਾ ॥
Kalajug Mehi Keerathan Paradhhaanaa ||
कलजुग महि कीरतनु परधाना ॥
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are most sublime and exalted.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਲਾਇ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥
