मिरत लोक पइआल समीपत असथिर थानु जिसु है अभगा ॥१२॥
He is near this world and the nether regions of the underworld; His Place is permanent, ever-stable and imperishable. ||12||
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨੁ ॥
Pathith Paavan Dhukh Bhai Bhanjan ||
पतित पावन दुख भै भंजनु ॥
The Purifier of sinners, the Destroyer of pain and fear.
ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਿਵਾਰਣੁ ਹੈ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਨੁ ॥
Ahankaar Nivaaran Hai Bhav Khanddan ||
अहंकार निवारणु है भव खंडनु ॥
The Eliminator of egotism, the Eradicator of coming and going.
ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਖਿਤ ਦੀਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਾ ਗੁਣੇ ਨ ਕਿਤ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਭਿਗਾ ॥੧੩॥
Bhagathee Thokhith Dheen Kirapaalaa Gunae N Kith Hee Hai Bhigaa ||13||
भगती तोखित दीन क्रिपाला गुणे न कित ही है भिगा ॥१३॥
He is pleased with devotional worship, and merciful to the meek; He cannot be appeased by any other qualities. ||13||
ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਅਛਲ ਅਡੋਲੋ ॥
Nirankaar Ashhal Addolo ||
निरंकारु अछल अडोलो ॥
The Formless Lord is undeceivable and unchanging.
ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਮਉਲੋ ॥
Joth Saroopee Sabh Jag Moulo ||
जोति सरूपी सभु जगु मउलो ॥
He is the Embodiment of Light; through Him, the whole world blossoms forth.
ਸੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਆਪਹੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਵੈਗਾ ॥੧੪॥
So Milai Jis Aap Milaaeae Aapahu Koe N Paavaigaa ||14||
सो मिलै जिसु आपि मिलाए आपहु कोइ न पावैगा ॥१४॥
He alone unites with Him, whom He unites with Himself. No one can attain the Lord by himself. ||14||
ਆਪੇ ਗੋਪੀ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਨਾ ॥
Aapae Gopee Aapae Kaanaa ||
आपे गोपी आपे काना ॥
He Himself is the milk-maid, and He Himself is Krishna.
ਆਪੇ ਗਊ ਚਰਾਵੈ ਬਾਨਾ ॥
Aapae Goo Charaavai Baanaa ||
आपे गऊ चरावै बाना ॥
He Himself grazes the cows in the forest.
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਵਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਖਪਾਵਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਲੇਪੁ ਨਹੀ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੧੫॥
Aap Oupaavehi Aap Khapaavehi Thudhh Laep Nehee Eik Thil Rangaa ||15||
आपि उपावहि आपि खपावहि तुधु लेपु नही इकु तिलु रंगा ॥१५॥
You Yourself create, and You Yourself destroy. Not even a particle of filth attaches to You. ||15||
ਏਕ ਜੀਹ ਗੁਣ ਕਵਨ ਬਖਾਨੈ ॥
Eaek Jeeh Gun Kavan Bakhaanai ||
एक जीह गुण कवन बखानै ॥
Which of Your Glorious Virtues can I chant with my one tongue?
ਸਹਸ ਫਨੀ ਸੇਖ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
Sehas Fanee Saekh Anth N Jaanai ||
सहस फनी सेख अंतु न जानै ॥
Even the thousand-headed serpent does not know Your limit.
ਨਵਤਨ ਨਾਮ ਜਪੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਇਕੁ ਗੁਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਹਿ ਸੰਗਾ ॥੧੬॥
Navathan Naam Japai Dhin Raathee Eik Gun Naahee Prabh Kehi Sangaa ||16||
नवतन नाम जपै दिनु राती इकु गुणु नाही प्रभ कहि संगा ॥१६॥
One may chant new names for You day and night, but even so, O God, no one can describe even one of Your Glorious Virtues. ||16||
ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਤ ਸਰਣਾਇਆ ॥
Outt Gehee Jagath Pith Saranaaeiaa ||
ओट गही जगत पित सरणाइआ ॥
I have grasped the Support, and entered the Sanctuary of the Lord, the Father of the world.
ਭੈ ਭਇਆਨਕ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਦੁਤਰ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
Bhai Bhaeiaanak Jamadhooth Dhuthar Hai Maaeiaa ||
भै भइआनक जमदूत दुतर है माइआ ॥
The Messenger of Death is terrifying and horrendous, and sea of Maya is impassable.
ਹੋਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਇਛਾ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੰਗਾ ॥੧੭॥
Hohu Kirapaal Eishhaa Kar Raakhahu Saadhh Santhan Kai Sang Sangaa ||17||
होहु क्रिपाल इछा करि राखहु साध संतन कै संगि संगा ॥१७॥
Please be merciful, Lord, and save me, if it is Your Will; please lead me to join with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||17||
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਮਾਨ ਹੈ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਥੇਨਾ ॥
Dhrisattimaan Hai Sagal Mithhaenaa ||
द्रिसटिमान है सगल मिथेना ॥
All that is seen is an illusion.
ਇਕੁ ਮਾਗਉ ਦਾਨੁ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਸੰਤ ਰੇਨਾ ॥
Eik Maago Dhaan Gobidh Santh Raenaa ||
इकु मागउ दानु गोबिद संत रेना ॥
I beg for this one gift, for the dust of the feet of the Saints, O Lord of the Universe.
ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਾਇ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵਉ ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਵੈਗਾ ॥੧੮॥
Masathak Laae Param Padh Paavo Jis Praapath So Paavaigaa ||18||
मसतकि लाइ परम पदु पावउ जिसु प्रापति सो पावैगा ॥१८॥
Applying it to my forehead, I obtain the supreme status; he alone obtains it, unto whom You give it. ||18||
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ॥
Jin Ko Kirapaa Karee Sukhadhaathae ||
जिन कउ क्रिपा करी सुखदाते ॥
Those, unto whom the Lord, the Giver of peace, grants His Mercy,
ਤਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਣ ਲੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਪਰਾਤੇ ॥
Thin Saadhhoo Charan Lai Ridhai Paraathae ||
तिन साधू चरण लै रिदै पराते ॥
Grasp the feet of the Holy, and weave them into their hearts.
ਸਗਲ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਮਨਿ ਵਾਜੰਗਾ ॥੧੯॥
Sagal Naam Nidhhaan Thin Paaeiaa Anehadh Sabadh Man Vaajangaa ||19||
सगल नाम निधानु तिन पाइआ अनहद सबद मनि वाजंगा ॥१९॥
They obtain all the wealth of the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the unstruck sound current of the Shabad vibrates and resounds within their minds. ||19||
ਕਿਰਤਮ ਨਾਮ ਕਥੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਜਿਹਬਾ ॥
Kiratham Naam Kathhae Thaerae Jihabaa ||
किरतम नाम कथे तेरे जिहबा ॥
With my tongue I chant the Names given to You.
ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਰਾ ਪੂਰਬਲਾ ॥
Sath Naam Thaeraa Paraa Poorabalaa ||
सति नामु तेरा परा पूरबला ॥
Sat Naam' is Your perfect, primal Name.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤ ਪਏ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਦੇਹੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਗਾ ॥੨੦॥
Kahu Naanak Bhagath Peae Saranaaee Dhaehu Dharas Man Rang Lagaa ||20||
कहु नानक भगत पए सरणाई देहु दरसु मनि रंगु लगा ॥२०॥
Says Nanak, Your devotees have entered Your Sanctuary. Please bestow the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan; their minds are filled with love for You. ||20||
ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਤੂਹੈ ਜਾਣਹਿ ॥
Thaeree Gath Mith Thoohai Jaanehi ||
तेरी गति मिति तूहै जाणहि ॥
You alone know Your state and extent.
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕਥਹਿ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ॥
Thoo Aapae Kathhehi Thai Aap Vakhaanehi ||
तू आपे कथहि तै आपि वखाणहि ॥
You Yourself speak, and You Yourself describe it.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਕਰੀਅਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਦਾਸਾ ਰਾਖੁ ਸੰਗਾ ॥੨੧॥੨॥੧੧॥
Naanak Dhaas Dhaasan Ko Kareeahu Har Bhaavai Dhaasaa Raakh Sangaa ||21||2||11||
नानक दासु दासन को करीअहु हरि भावै दासा राखु संगा ॥२१॥२॥११॥
Please make Nanak the slave of Your slaves, O Lord; as it pleases Your Will, please keep him with Your slaves. ||21||2||11||

अलह अगम खुदाई बंदे ॥
O slave of the inaccessible Lord God Allah,
ਛੋਡਿ ਖਿਆਲ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਕੇ ਧੰਧੇ ॥
Shhodd Khiaal Dhuneeaa Kae Dhhandhhae ||
छोडि खिआल दुनीआ के धंधे ॥
Forsake thoughts of worldly entanglements.
ਹੋਇ ਪੈ ਖਾਕ ਫਕੀਰ ਮੁਸਾਫਰੁ ਇਹੁ ਦਰਵੇਸੁ ਕਬੂਲੁ ਦਰਾ ॥੧॥
Hoe Pai Khaak Fakeer Musaafar Eihu Dharavaes Kabool Dharaa ||1||
होइ पै खाक फकीर मुसाफरु इहु दरवेसु कबूलु दरा ॥१॥
Become the dust of the feet of the humble fakeers, and consider yourself a traveller on this journey. O saintly dervish, you shall be approved in the Court of the Lord. ||1||
ਸਚੁ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਯਕੀਨ ਮੁਸਲਾ ॥
Sach Nivaaj Yakeen Musalaa ||
सचु निवाज यकीन मुसला ॥
Let Truth be your prayer, and faith your prayer-mat.
ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਹੁ ਆਸਾ ॥
Manasaa Maar Nivaarihu Aasaa ||
मनसा मारि निवारिहु आसा ॥
Subdue your desires, and overcome your hopes.
ਦੇਹ ਮਸੀਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਉਲਾਣਾ ਕਲਮ ਖੁਦਾਈ ਪਾਕੁ ਖਰਾ ॥੨॥
Dhaeh Maseeth Man Moulaanaa Kalam Khudhaaee Paak Kharaa ||2||
देह मसीति मनु मउलाणा कलम खुदाई पाकु खरा ॥२॥
Let your body be the mosque, and your mind the priest. Let true purity be God's Word for you. ||2||
ਸਰਾ ਸਰੀਅਤਿ ਲੇ ਕੰਮਾਵਹੁ ॥
Saraa Sareeath Lae Kanmaavahu ||
सरा सरीअति ले कमावहु ॥
Let your practice be to live the spiritual life.
ਤਰੀਕਤਿ ਤਰਕ ਖੋਜਿ ਟੋਲਾਵਹੁ ॥
Thareekath Tharak Khoj Ttolaavahu ||
तरीकति तरक खोजि टोलावहु ॥
Let your spiritual cleansing be to renounce the world and seek God.
ਮਾਰਫਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਹੁ ਅਬਦਾਲਾ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਹਕੀਕਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਨ ਮਰਾ ॥੩॥
Maarafath Man Maarahu Abadhaalaa Milahu Hakeekath Jith Fir N Maraa ||3||
मारफति मनु मारहु अबदाला मिलहु हकीकति जितु फिरि न मरा ॥३॥
Let control of the mind be your spiritual wisdom, O holy man; meeting with God, you shall never die again. ||3||
ਕੁਰਾਣੁ ਕਤੇਬ ਦਿਲ ਮਾਹਿ ਕਮਾਹੀ ॥
Kuraan Kathaeb Dhil Maahi Kamaahee ||
कुराणु कतेब दिल माहि कमाही ॥
Practice within your heart the teachings of the Koran and the Bible;
ਦਸ ਅਉਰਾਤ ਰਖਹੁ ਬਦ ਰਾਹੀ ॥
Dhas Aouraath Rakhahu Badh Raahee ||
दस अउरात रखहु बद राही ॥
Restrain the ten sensory organs from straying into evil.
ਪੰਚ ਮਰਦ ਸਿਦਕਿ ਲੇ ਬਾਧਹੁ ਖੈਰਿ ਸਬੂਰੀ ਕਬੂਲ ਪਰਾ ॥੪॥
Panch Maradh Sidhak Lae Baadhhahu Khair Sabooree Kabool Paraa ||4||
पंच मरद सिदकि ले बाधहु खैरि सबूरी कबूल परा ॥४॥
Tie up the five demons of desire with faith, charity and contentment, and you shall be acceptable. ||4||
ਮਕਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਰੋਜਾ ਪੈ ਖਾਕਾ ॥
Makaa Mihar Rojaa Pai Khaakaa ||
मका मिहर रोजा पै खाका ॥
Let compassion be your Mecca, and the dust of the feet of the holy your fast.
ਭਿਸਤੁ ਪੀਰ ਲਫਜ ਕਮਾਇ ਅੰਦਾਜਾ ॥
Bhisath Peer Lafaj Kamaae Andhaajaa ||
भिसतु पीर लफज कमाइ अंदाजा ॥
Let Paradise be your practice of the Prophet's Word.
ਹੂਰ ਨੂਰ ਮੁਸਕੁ ਖੁਦਾਇਆ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਅਲਹ ਆਲਾ ਹੁਜਰਾ ॥੫॥
Hoor Noor Musak Khudhaaeiaa Bandhagee Aleh Aalaa Hujaraa ||5||
हूर नूर मुसकु खुदाइआ बंदगी अलह आला हुजरा ॥५॥
God is the beauty, the light and the fragrance. Meditation on Allah is the secluded meditation chamber. ||5||
