मः ५ ॥
Fifth Mehl:
ਸੁਖ ਸਮੂਹਾ ਭੋਗ ਭੂਮਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਕੋ ਧਣੀ ॥
Sukh Samoohaa Bhog Bhoom Sabaaee Ko Dhhanee ||
सुख समूहा भोग भूमि सबाई को धणी ॥
Even if one were to enjoy all pleasures, and be master of the entire earth,
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਭੋ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਿਰਤਕ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
Naanak Habho Rog Mirathak Naam Vihooniaa ||2||
नानक हभो रोगु मिरतक नाम विहूणिआ ॥२॥
O Nanak, all of that is just a disease. Without the Naam, he is dead. ||2||

Fifth Mehl:
ਹਿਕਸ ਕੂੰ ਤੂ ਆਹਿ ਪਛਾਣੂ ਭੀ ਹਿਕੁ ਕਰਿ ॥
Hikas Koon Thoo Aahi Pashhaanoo Bhee Hik Kar ||
हिकस कूं तू आहि पछाणू भी हिकु करि ॥
Yearn for the One Lord, and make Him your friend.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਸੜੀ ਨਿਬਾਹਿ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਪਰਥਾਈ ਲਜੀਵਦੋ ॥੩॥
Naanak Aasarree Nibaahi Maanukh Parathhaaee Lajeevadho ||3||
नानक आसड़ी निबाहि मानुख परथाई लजीवदो ॥३॥
O Nanak, He alone fulfills your hopes; you should feel embarrassed, visiting other places. ||3||

ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਏਕੁ ਨਰਾਇਣੋ ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਾ ॥
Nihachal Eaek Naraaeino Har Agam Agaadhhaa ||
निहचलु एकु नराइणो हरि अगम अगाधा ॥
The One and only Lord is eternal, imperishable, inaccessible and incomprehensible.
ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਧਾ ॥
Nihachal Naam Nidhhaan Hai Jis Simarath Har Laadhhaa ||
निहचलु नामु निधानु है जिसु सिमरत हरि लाधा ॥
The treasure of the Naam is eternal and imperishable. Meditating in remembrance on Him, the Lord is attained.
ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵਾਧਾ ॥
Nihachal Keerathan Gun Gobindh Guramukh Gaavaadhhaa ||
निहचलु कीरतनु गुण गोबिंद गुरमुखि गावाधा ॥
The Kirtan of His Praises is eternal and imperishable; the Gurmukh sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਸਚੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਤਪੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਅਰਾਧਾ ॥
Sach Dhharam Thap Nihachalo Dhin Rain Araadhhaa ||
सचु धरमु तपु निहचलो दिनु रैनि अराधा ॥
Truth, righteousness, Dharma and intense meditation are eternal and imperishable. Day and night, worship the Lord in adoration.
ਦਇਆ ਧਰਮੁ ਤਪੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੋ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਿਖਾਧਾ ॥
Dhaeiaa Dhharam Thap Nihachalo Jis Karam Likhaadhhaa ||
दइआ धरमु तपु निहचलो जिसु करमि लिखाधा ॥
Compassion, righteousness, Dharma and intense meditation are eternal and imperishable; they alone obtain these, who have such pre-ordained destiny.
ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਟਲੈ ਨ ਟਲਾਧਾ ॥
Nihachal Masathak Laekh Likhiaa So Ttalai N Ttalaadhhaa ||
निहचलु मसतकि लेखु लिखिआ सो टलै न टलाधा ॥
The inscription inscribed upon one's forehead is eternal and imperishable; it cannot be avoided by avoidance.
ਨਿਹਚਲ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਬਚਨ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਧਾ ॥
Nihachal Sangath Saadhh Jan Bachan Nihachal Gur Saadhhaa ||
निहचल संगति साध जन बचन निहचलु गुर साधा ॥
The Congregation, the Company of the Holy, and the word of the humble, are eternal and imperishable. The Holy Guru is eternal and imperishable.
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਾ ॥੧੯॥
Jin Ko Poorab Likhiaa Thin Sadhaa Sadhaa Aaraadhhaa ||19||
जिन कउ पूरबि लिखिआ तिन सदा सदा आराधा ॥१९॥
Those who have such pre-ordained destiny worship and adore the Lord, forever and ever. ||19||

ਜੋ ਡੁਬੰਦੋ ਆਪਿ ਸੋ ਤਰਾਏ ਕਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਖੇ ॥
Jo Ddubandho Aap So Tharaaeae Kinh Khae ||
जो डुबंदो आपि सो तराए किन्ह खे ॥
One who himself has drowned - how can he carry anyone else across?
ਤਾਰੇਦੜੋ ਭੀ ਤਾਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਰ ਸਿਉ ਰਤਿਆ ॥੧॥
Thaaraedharro Bhee Thaar Naanak Pir Sio Rathiaa ||1||
तारेदड़ो भी तारि नानक पिर सिउ रतिआ ॥१॥
One who is imbued with the Love of the Husband Lord - O Nanak, he himself is saved, and he saves others as well. ||1||

ਜਿਥੈ ਕੋਇ ਕਥੰਨਿ ਨਾਉ ਸੁਣੰਦੋ ਮਾ ਪਿਰੀ ॥

जिथै कोइ कथंनि नाउ सुणंदो मा पिरी ॥
Wherever someone speaks and hears the Name of my Beloved Lord,
ਮੂੰ ਜੁਲਾਊਂ ਤਥਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਰੀ ਪਸੰਦੋ ਹਰਿਓ ਥੀਓਸਿ ॥੨॥
Moon Julaaoon Thathh Naanak Piree Pasandho Hariou Thheeous ||2||
मूं जुलाऊं तथि नानक पिरी पसंदो हरिओ थीओसि ॥२॥
That is where I go, O Nanak, to see Him, and blossom forth in bliss. ||2||

ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਸਨੇਹ ॥
Maeree Maeree Kiaa Karehi Puthr Kalathr Sanaeh ||
मेरी मेरी किआ करहि पुत्र कलत्र सनेह ॥
You are in love with your children and your wife; why do you keep calling them your own?
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣੀਆ ਨਿਮੁਣੀਆਦੀ ਦੇਹ ॥੩॥
Naanak Naam Vihooneeaa Nimuneeaadhee Dhaeh ||3||
नानक नाम विहूणीआ निमुणीआदी देह ॥३॥
O Nanak, without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the human body has no foundation. ||3||

ਨੈਨੀ ਦੇਖਉ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੋ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਥਾ ॥
Nainee Dhaekho Gur Dharasano Gur Charanee Mathhaa ||
नैनी देखउ गुर दरसनो गुर चरणी मथा ॥
With my eyes, I gaze upon the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan; I touch my forehead to the Guru's feet.
ਪੈਰੀ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਚਲਦਾ ਪਖਾ ਫੇਰੀ ਹਥਾ ॥
Pairee Maarag Gur Chaladhaa Pakhaa Faeree Hathhaa ||
पैरी मारगि गुर चलदा पखा फेरी हथा ॥
With my feet I walk on the Guru's Path; with my hands, I wave the fan over Him.
ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਜਪੰਥਾ ॥
Akaal Moorath Ridhai Dhhiaaeidhaa Dhin Rain Japanthhaa ||
अकाल मूरति रिदै धिआइदा दिनु रैनि जपंथा ॥
I meditate on Akaal Moorat, the undying form, within my heart; day and night, I meditate on Him.
ਮੈ ਛਡਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਅਪਾਇਣੋ ਭਰਵਾਸੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਮਰਥਾ ॥
Mai Shhaddiaa Sagal Apaaeino Bharavaasai Gur Samarathhaa ||
मै छडिआ सगल अपाइणो भरवासै गुर समरथा ॥
I have renounced all possessiveness, and have placed my faith in the all-powerful Guru.
ਗੁਰਿ ਬਖਸਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਭੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਥਾ ॥
Gur Bakhasiaa Naam Nidhhaan Sabho Dhukh Lathhaa ||
गुरि बखसिआ नामु निधानु सभो दुखु लथा ॥
The Guru has blessed me with the treasure of the Naam; I am rid of all sufferings.
ਭੋਗਹੁ ਭੁੰਚਹੁ ਭਾਈਹੋ ਪਲੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਗਥਾ ॥
Bhogahu Bhunchahu Bhaaeeho Palai Naam Agathhaa ||
भोगहु भुंचहु भाईहो पलै नामु अगथा ॥
Eat and enjoy the Naam, the Name of the indescribable Lord, O Siblings of Destiny.
ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦਿੜੁ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਥਾ ॥
Naam Dhaan Eisanaan Dhirr Sadhaa Karahu Gur Kathhaa ||
नामु दानु इसनानु दिड़ु सदा करहु गुर कथा ॥
Confirm your faith in the Naam, charity and self-purification; chant the Guru's sermon forever.
ਸਹਜੁ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਲਥਾ ॥੨੦॥
Sehaj Bhaeiaa Prabh Paaeiaa Jam Kaa Bho Lathhaa ||20||
सहजु भइआ प्रभु पाइआ जम का भउ लथा ॥२०॥
Blessed with intuitive poise, I have found God; I am rid of the fear of the Messenger of Death. ||20||

Lagarreeaa Pireeann Paekhandheeaa Naa Thipeeaa ||
लगड़ीआ पिरीअंनि पेखंदीआ ना तिपीआ ॥
I am centered and focused on my Beloved, but I am not satisfied, even by seeing Him.
ਹਭ ਮਝਾਹੂ ਸੋ ਧਣੀ ਬਿਆ ਨ ਡਿਠੋ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
Habh Majhaahoo So Dhhanee Biaa N Dditho Koe ||1||
हभ मझाहू सो धणी बिआ न डिठो कोइ ॥१॥
The Lord and Master is within all; I do not see any other. ||1||

ਕਥੜੀਆ ਸੰਤਾਹ ਤੇ ਸੁਖਾਊ ਪੰਧੀਆ ॥

कथड़ीआ संताह ते सुखाऊ पंधीआ ॥
The sayings of the Saints are the paths of peace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਲਧੜੀਆ ਤਿੰਨਾਹ ਜਿਨਾ ਭਾਗੁ ਮਥਾਹੜੈ ॥੨॥
Naanak Ladhharreeaa Thinnaah Jinaa Bhaag Mathhaaharrai ||2||
नानक लधड़ीआ तिंनाह जिना भागु मथाहड़ै ॥२॥
O Nanak, they alone obtain them, upon whose foreheads such destiny is written. ||2||

ਡੂੰਗਰਿ ਜਲਾ ਥਲਾ ਭੂਮਿ ਬਨਾ ਫਲ ਕੰਦਰਾ ॥
Ddoongar Jalaa Thhalaa Bhoom Banaa Fal Kandharaa ||
डूंगरि जला थला भूमि बना फल कंदरा ॥
He is totally permeating the mountains, oceans, deserts, lands, forests, orchards, caves,
ਪਾਤਾਲਾ ਆਕਾਸ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਹਭ ਘਟਾ ॥
Paathaalaa Aakaas Pooran Habh Ghattaa ||
पाताला आकास पूरनु हभ घटा ॥
The nether regions of the underworld, the Akaashic ethers of the skies, and all hearts.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪੇਖਿ ਜੀਓ ਇਕਤੁ ਸੂਤਿ ਪਰੋਤੀਆ ॥੩॥
Naanak Paekh Jeeou Eikath Sooth Parotheeaa ||3||
नानक पेखि जीओ इकतु सूति परोतीआ ॥३॥
Nanak sees that they are all strung on the same thread. ||3||

Har Jee Maathaa Har Jee Pithaa Har Jeeo Prathipaalak ||
हरि जी माता हरि जी पिता हरि जीउ प्रतिपालक ॥
The Dear Lord is my mother, the Dear Lord is my father; the Dear Lord cherishes and nurtures me.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਬਾਲਕ ॥
Har Jee Maeree Saar Karae Ham Har Kae Baalak ||
हरि जी मेरी सार करे हम हरि के बालक ॥
The Dear Lord takes care of me; I am the child of the Lord.
ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਖਿਲਾਇਦਾ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਆਲਕ ॥
Sehajae Sehaj Khilaaeidhaa Nehee Karadhaa Aalak ||
सहजे सहजि खिलाइदा नही करदा आलक ॥
Slowly and steadily, He feeds me; He never fails.
ਅਉਗਣੁ ਕੋ ਨ ਚਿਤਾਰਦਾ ਗਲ ਸੇਤੀ ਲਾਇਕ ॥
Aougan Ko N Chithaaradhaa Gal Saethee Laaeik ||
अउगणु को न चितारदा गल सेती लाइक ॥
He does not remind me of my faults; He hugs me close in His embrace.
ਮੁਹਿ ਮੰਗਾਂ ਸੋਈ ਦੇਵਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਇਕ ॥
Muhi Mangaan Soee Dhaevadhaa Har Pithaa Sukhadhaaeik ||
मुहि मंगां सोई देवदा हरि पिता सुखदाइक ॥
Whatever I ask for, He give me; the Lord is my peace-giving father.
