ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
This Dhee Boojhai J Gur Sabadh Kamaaeae ||
तिस दी बूझै जि गुर सबदु कमाए ॥
He alone puts out this fire, who practices and lives the Guru's Shabad.
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੫॥
Than Man Seethal Krodhh Nivaarae Houmai Maar Samaaeiaa ||15||
तनु मनु सीतलु क्रोधु निवारे हउमै मारि समाइआ ॥१५॥
His body and mind are cooled and soothed, and his anger is silenced; conquering egotism, he merges in the Lord. ||15||
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
Sachaa Saahib Sachee Vaddiaaee ||
सचा साहिबु सची वडिआई ॥
True is the Lord and Master, and True is His glorious greatness.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਪਾਈ ॥
Gur Parasaadhee Viralai Paaee ||
गुर परसादी विरलै पाई ॥
By Guru's Grace, a rare few attain this.

By Your Grace, please unite with Your devotees.
ਭਗਤ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
Bhagath Salaahan Sadhaa Liv Laaeae ||
भगत सलाहनि सदा लिव लाए ॥
Your devotees ever praise You, lovingly focusing on You.
ਤਉ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਉਬਰਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
Tho Saranaaee Oubarehi Karathae Aapae Mael Milaaeiaa ||1||
तउ सरणाई उबरहि करते आपे मेलि मिलाइआ ॥१॥
In Your Sanctuary, they are saved, O Creator Lord; You unite them in Union with Yourself. ||1||

पूरै सबदि भगति सुहाई ॥
Sublime and exalted is devotion to the Perfect Word of the Shabad.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ॥
Anthar Sukh Thaerai Man Bhaaee ||
अंतरि सुखु तेरै मनि भाई ॥
Peace prevails within; they are pleasing to Your Mind.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
Man Than Sachee Bhagathee Raathaa Sachae Sio Chith Laaeiaa ||2||
मनु तनु सची भगती राता सचे सिउ चितु लाइआ ॥२॥
One whose mind and body are imbued with true devotion, focuses his consciousness on the True Lord. ||2||
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਦ ਜਲੈ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
Houmai Vich Sadh Jalai Sareeraa ||
हउमै विचि सद जलै सरीरा ॥
In egotism, the body is forever burning.
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਭੇਟੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
Karam Hovai Bhaettae Gur Pooraa ||
करमु होवै भेटे गुरु पूरा ॥
When God grants His Grace, one meets the Perfect Guru.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
Anthar Agiaan Sabadh Bujhaaeae Sathigur Thae Sukh Paaeiaa ||3||
अंतरि अगिआनु सबदि बुझाए सतिगुर ते सुखु पाइआ ॥३॥
The Shabad dispels the spiritual ignorance within, and through the True Guru, one finds peace. ||3||
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
Manamukh Andhhaa Andhh Kamaaeae ||
मनमुखु अंधा अंधु कमाए ॥
The blind, self-willed manmukh acts blindly.
ਬਹੁ ਸੰਕਟ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਰਮਾਏ ॥
Bahu Sankatt Jonee Bharamaaeae ||
बहु संकट जोनी भरमाए ॥
He is in terrible trouble, and wanders in reincarnation.
ਜਮ ਕਾ ਜੇਵੜਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਕਾਟੈ ਅੰਤੇ ਬਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
Jam Kaa Jaevarraa Kadhae N Kaattai Anthae Bahu Dhukh Paaeiaa ||4||
जम का जेवड़ा कदे न काटै अंते बहु दुखु पाइआ ॥४॥
He can never snap the noose of Death, and in the end, he suffers in horrible pain. ||4||
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
Aavan Jaanaa Sabadh Nivaarae ||
आवण जाणा सबदि निवारे ॥
Through the Shabad, one's comings and goings in reincarnation are ended.
ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
Sach Naam Rakhai Our Dhhaarae ||
सचु नामु रखै उर धारे ॥
He keeps the True Name enshrined within his heart.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
Gur Kai Sabadh Marai Man Maarae Houmai Jaae Samaaeiaa ||5||
गुर कै सबदि मरै मनु मारे हउमै जाइ समाइआ ॥५॥
He dies in the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and conquers his mind; stilling his egotism, he merges in the Lord. ||5||
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੈ ਪਰਜ ਵਿਗੋਈ ॥
Aavan Jaanai Paraj Vigoee ||
आवण जाणै परज विगोई ॥
Coming and going, the people of the world are wasting away.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਥਿਰੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
Bin Sathigur Thhir Koe N Hoee ||
बिनु सतिगुर थिरु कोइ न होई ॥
Without the True Guru, no one finds permanence and stability.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
Anthar Joth Sabadh Sukh Vasiaa Jothee Joth Milaaeiaa ||6||
अंतरि जोति सबदि सुखु वसिआ जोती जोति मिलाइआ ॥६॥
The Shabad shines its Light deep within the self, and one dwells in peace; one's light merges into the Light. ||6||
ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
Panch Dhooth Chithavehi Vikaaraa ||
पंच दूत चितवहि विकारा ॥
The five demons think of evil and corruption.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਕਾ ਏਹੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥
Maaeiaa Moh Kaa Eaehu Pasaaraa ||
माइआ मोह का एहु पसारा ॥
The expanse is the manifestation of emotional attachment to Maya.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਵਸਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੭॥
Sathigur Saevae Thaa Mukath Hovai Panch Dhooth Vas Aaeiaa ||7||
सतिगुरु सेवे ता मुकतु होवै पंच दूत वसि आइआ ॥७॥
Serving the True Guru, one is liberated, and the five demons are put under his control. ||7||
ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥
Baajh Guroo Hai Mohu Gubaaraa ||
बाझु गुरू है मोहु गुबारा ॥
Without the Guru, there is only the darkness of attachment.
ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਡੁਬੈ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰਾ ॥
Fir Fir Ddubai Vaaro Vaaraa ||
फिरि फिरि डुबै वारो वारा ॥
Over and over, time and time again, they are drowned.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੮॥
Sathigur Bhaettae Sach Dhrirraaeae Sach Naam Man Bhaaeiaa ||8||
सतिगुर भेटे सचु द्रिड़ाए सचु नामु मनि भाइआ ॥८॥
Meeting the True Guru, Truth is implanted within, and the True Name becomes pleasing to the mind. ||8||
ਸਾਚਾ ਦਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਦਰਵਾਰਾ ॥
Saachaa Dhar Saachaa Dharavaaraa ||
साचा दरु साचा दरवारा ॥
True is His Door, and True is His Court, His Royal Darbaar.
ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
Sachae Saevehi Sabadh Piaaraa ||
सचे सेवहि सबदि पिआरा ॥
The true ones serve Him, through the Beloved Word of the Shabad.
ਸਚੀ ਧੁਨਿ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਸਚੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੯॥
Sachee Dhhun Sachae Gun Gaavaa Sachae Maahi Samaaeiaa ||9||
सची धुनि सचे गुण गावा सचे माहि समाइआ ॥९॥
Singing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord, in the true melody, I am immersed and absorbed in Truth. ||9||
ਘਰੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੋ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Gharai Andhar Ko Ghar Paaeae ||
घरै अंदरि को घरु पाए ॥
Deep within the home of the self, one finds the home of the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
Gur Kai Sabadhae Sehaj Subhaaeae ||
गुर कै सबदे सहजि सुभाए ॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one easily, intuitively finds it.
ਓਥੈ ਸੋਗੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੦॥
Outhhai Sog Vijog N Viaapai Sehajae Sehaj Samaaeiaa ||10||
ओथै सोगु विजोगु न विआपै सहजे सहजि समाइआ ॥१०॥
There, one is not afflicted with sorrow or separation; merge into the Celestial Lord with intuitive ease. ||10||
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੁਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
Dhoojai Bhaae Dhusattaa Kaa Vaasaa ||
दूजै भाइ दुसटा का वासा ॥
The evil people live in the love of duality.
ਭਉਦੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥
Bhoudhae Firehi Bahu Moh Piaasaa ||
भउदे फिरहि बहु मोह पिआसा ॥
They wander around, totally attached and thirsty.
ਕੁਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਹਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੧॥
Kusangath Behehi Sadhaa Dhukh Paavehi Dhukho Dhukh Kamaaeiaa ||11||
कुसंगति बहहि सदा दुखु पावहि दुखो दुखु कमाइआ ॥११॥
They sit in evil gatherings, and suffer in pain forever; they earn pain, nothing but pain. ||11||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
Sathigur Baajhahu Sangath N Hoee ||
सतिगुर बाझहु संगति न होई ॥
Without the True Guru, there is no Sangat, no Congregation.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਪਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਈ ॥
Bin Sabadhae Paar N Paaeae Koee ||
बिनु सबदे पारु न पाए कोई ॥
Without the Shabad, no one can cross over to the other side.
ਸਹਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧੨॥
Sehajae Gun Ravehi Dhin Raathee Jothee Joth Milaaeiaa ||12||
सहजे गुण रवहि दिनु राती जोती जोति मिलाइआ ॥१२॥
One who intuitively chants God's Glorious Praises day and night - his light merges into the Light. ||12||
ਕਾਇਆ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
Kaaeiaa Birakh Pankhee Vich Vaasaa ||
काइआ बिरखु पंखी विचि वासा ॥
The body is the tree; the bird of the soul dwells within it.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚੁਗਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ॥
Anmrith Chugehi Gur Sabadh Nivaasaa ||
अम्रितु चुगहि गुर सबदि निवासा ॥
It drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar, resting in the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਉਡਹਿ ਨ ਮੂਲੇ ਨ ਆਵਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੩॥
Ouddehi N Moolae N Aavehi N Jaahee Nij Ghar Vaasaa Paaeiaa ||13||
उडहि न मूले न आवहि न जाही निज घरि वासा पाइआ ॥१३॥
It never flies away, and it does not come or go; it dwells within the home of its own self. ||13||
ਕਾਇਆ ਸੋਧਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਹਿ ॥
Kaaeiaa Sodhhehi Sabadh Veechaarehi ||
काइआ सोधहि सबदु वीचारहि ॥
Purify the body, and contemplate the Shabad.
ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਭਰਮੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਹਿ ॥
Moh Thagouree Bharam Nivaarehi ||
मोह ठगउरी भरमु निवारहि ॥
Remove the poisonous drug of emotional attachment, and eradicate doubt.
ਆਪੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧੪॥
Aapae Kirapaa Karae Sukhadhaathaa Aapae Mael Milaaeiaa ||14||
आपे क्रिपा करे सुखदाता आपे मेलि मिलाइआ ॥१४॥
The Giver of peace Himself bestows His Mercy, and unites us in Union with Himself. ||14||
