ਮਨਮੁਖ ਖੋਟੀ ਰਾਸਿ ਖੋਟਾ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
Manamukh Khottee Raas Khottaa Paasaaraa ||
मनमुख खोटी रासि खोटा पासारा ॥
The wealth of the self-willed manmukhs is false, and false is their ostentatious display.
ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਨਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਭਾਰਾ ॥
Koorr Kamaavan Dhukh Laagai Bhaaraa ||
कूड़ु कमावनि दुखु लागै भारा ॥
They practice falsehood, and suffer terrible pain.
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲੇ ਫਿਰਨਿ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
Bharamae Bhoolae Firan Dhin Raathee Mar Janamehi Janam Gavaavaniaa ||7||
भरमे भूले फिरनि दिन राती मरि जनमहि जनमु गवावणिआ ॥७॥
Deluded by doubt, they wander day and night; through birth and death, they lose their lives. ||7||
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥

सचा साहिबु मै अति पिआरा ॥
My True Lord and Master is very dear to me.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
Poorae Gur Kai Sabadh Adhhaaraa ||
पूरे गुर कै सबदि अधारा ॥
The Shabad of the Perfect Guru is my Support.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੦॥੧੧॥
Naanak Naam Milai Vaddiaaee Dhukh Sukh Sam Kar Jaananiaa ||8||10||11||
नानक नामि मिलै वडिआई दुखु सुखु सम करि जानणिआ ॥८॥१०॥११॥
O Nanak, one who obtains the Greatness of the Naam, looks upon pain and pleasure as one and the same. ||8||10||11||

Maajh, Third Mehl:
ਤੇਰੀਆ ਖਾਣੀ ਤੇਰੀਆ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
Thaereeaa Khaanee Thaereeaa Baanee ||
तेरीआ खाणी तेरीआ बाणी ॥
The four sources of creation are Yours; the spoken word is Yours.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀ ॥
Bin Naavai Sabh Bharam Bhulaanee ||
बिनु नावै सभ भरमि भुलाणी ॥
Without the Name, all are deluded by doubt.
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
Gur Saevaa Thae Har Naam Paaeiaa Bin Sathigur Koe N Paavaniaa ||1||
गुर सेवा ते हरि नामु पाइआ बिनु सतिगुर कोइ न पावणिआ ॥१॥
Serving the Guru, the Lord's Name is obtained. Without the True Guru, no one can receive it. ||1||
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
Ho Vaaree Jeeo Vaaree Har Saethee Chith Laavaniaa ||
हउ वारी जीउ वारी हरि सेती चितु लावणिआ ॥
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who focus their consciousness on the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਹਜੇ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Har Sachaa Gur Bhagathee Paaeeai Sehajae Mann Vasaavaniaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
हरि सचा गुर भगती पाईऐ सहजे मंनि वसावणिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Through devotion to the Guru, the True One is found; He comes to abide in the mind, with intuitive ease. ||1||Pause||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Sathigur Saevae Thaa Sabh Kishh Paaeae ||
सतिगुरु सेवे ता सभ किछु पाए ॥
Serving the True Guru, all things are obtained.
ਜੇਹੀ ਮਨਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਤੇਹਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Jaehee Manasaa Kar Laagai Thaehaa Fal Paaeae ||
जेही मनसा करि लागै तेहा फलु पाए ॥
As are the desires one harbors, so are the rewards one receives.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਭਨਾ ਵਥੂ ਕਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
Sathigur Dhaathaa Sabhanaa Vathhoo Kaa Poorai Bhaag Milaavaniaa ||2||
सतिगुरु दाता सभना वथू का पूरै भागि मिलावणिआ ॥२॥
The True Guru is the Giver of all things; through perfect destiny, He is met. ||2||
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਇਕੁ ਨ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
Eihu Man Mailaa Eik N Dhhiaaeae ||
इहु मनु मैला इकु न धिआए ॥
This mind is filthy and polluted; it does not meditate on the One.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਲਾਗੀ ਬਹੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਏ ॥
Anthar Mail Laagee Bahu Dhoojai Bhaaeae ||
अंतरि मैलु लागी बहु दूजै भाए ॥
Deep within, it is soiled and stained by the love of duality.
ਤਟਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਦਿਸੰਤਰਿ ਭਵੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੋਰੁ ਵਧੇਰੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
Thatt Theerathh Dhisanthar Bhavai Ahankaaree Hor Vadhhaerai Houmai Mal Laavaniaa ||3||
तटि तीरथि दिसंतरि भवै अहंकारी होरु वधेरै हउमै मलु लावणिआ ॥३॥
The egotists may go on pilgrimages to holy rivers, sacred shrines and foreign lands, but they only gather more of the dirt of egotism. ||3||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਏ ॥
Sathigur Saevae Thaa Mal Jaaeae ||
सतिगुरु सेवे ता मलु जाए ॥
Serving the True Guru, filth and pollution are removed.
ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
Jeevath Marai Har Sio Chith Laaeae ||
जीवतु मरै हरि सिउ चितु लाए ॥
Those who focus their consciousness on the Lord remain dead while yet alive.
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਚਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
Har Niramal Sach Mail N Laagai Sach Laagai Mail Gavaavaniaa ||4||
हरि निरमलु सचु मैलु न लागै सचि लागै मैलु गवावणिआ ॥४॥
The True Lord is Pure; no filth sticks to Him. Those who are attached to the True One have their filth washed away. ||4||
ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਅੰਧ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥
Baajh Guroo Hai Andhh Gubaaraa ||
बाझु गुरू है अंध गुबारा ॥
Without the Guru, there is only pitch darkness.
ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥
Agiaanee Andhhaa Andhh Andhhaaraa ||
अगिआनी अंधा अंधु अंधारा ॥
The ignorant ones are blind-there is only utter darkness for them.
ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਚਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
Bisattaa Kae Keerrae Bisattaa Kamaavehi Fir Bisattaa Maahi Pachaavaniaa ||5||
बिसटा के कीड़े बिसटा कमावहि फिरि बिसटा माहि पचावणिआ ॥५॥
The maggots in manure do filthy deeds, and in filth they rot and putrefy. ||5||
ਮੁਕਤੇ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
Mukathae Saevae Mukathaa Hovai ||
मुकते सेवे मुकता होवै ॥
Serving the Lord of Liberation, liberation is achieved.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਖੋਵੈ ॥
Houmai Mamathaa Sabadhae Khovai ||
हउमै ममता सबदे खोवै ॥
The Word of the Shabad eradicates egotism and possessiveness.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਚਾ ਸੇਵੀ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
Anadhin Har Jeeo Sachaa Saevee Poorai Bhaag Gur Paavaniaa ||6||
अनदिनु हरि जीउ सचा सेवी पूरै भागि गुरु पावणिआ ॥६॥
So serve the Dear True Lord, night and day. By perfect good destiny, the Guru is found. ||6||
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
Aapae Bakhasae Mael Milaaeae ||
आपे बखसे मेलि मिलाए ॥
He Himself forgives and unites in His Union.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
Poorae Gur Thae Naam Nidhh Paaeae ||
पूरे गुर ते नामु निधि पाए ॥
From the Perfect Guru, the Treasure of the Naam is obtained.
ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
Sachai Naam Sadhaa Man Sachaa Sach Saevae Dhukh Gavaavaniaa ||7||
सचै नामि सदा मनु सचा सचु सेवे दुखु गवावणिआ ॥७॥
By the True Name, the mind is made true forever. Serving the True Lord, sorrow is driven out. ||7||
ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੁ ॥
Sadhaa Hajoor Dhoor N Jaanahu ||
सदा हजूरि दूरि न जाणहु ॥
He is always close at hand-do not think that He is far away.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਛਾਣਹੁ ॥
Gur Sabadhee Har Anthar Pashhaanahu ||
गुर सबदी हरि अंतरि पछाणहु ॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, recognize the Lord deep within your own being.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੧॥੧੨॥
Naanak Naam Milai Vaddiaaee Poorae Gur Thae Paavaniaa ||8||11||12||
नानक नामि मिलै वडिआई पूरे गुर ते पावणिआ ॥८॥११॥१२॥
O Nanak, through the Naam, glorious greatness is received. Through the Perfect Guru, the Naam is obtained. ||8||11||12||

ਐਥੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਸਾਚੇ ॥

ऐथै साचे सु आगै साचे ॥
Those who are True here, are True hereafter as well.
ਮਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਾਚੇ ॥
Man Sachaa Sachai Sabadh Raachae ||
मनु सचा सचै सबदि राचे ॥
That mind is true, which is attuned to the True Shabad.
ਸਚਾ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
Sachaa Saevehi Sach Kamaavehi Sacho Sach Kamaavaniaa ||1||
सचा सेवहि सचु कमावहि सचो सचु कमावणिआ ॥१॥
They serve the True One, and practice Truth; they earn Truth, and only Truth. ||1||
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
Ho Vaaree Jeeo Vaaree Sachaa Naam Mann Vasaavaniaa ||
हउ वारी जीउ वारी सचा नामु मंनि वसावणिआ ॥
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those whose minds are filled with the True Name.
ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Sachae Saevehi Sach Samaavehi Sachae Kae Gun Gaavaniaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
सचे सेवहि सचि समावहि सचे के गुण गावणिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
They serve the True One, and are absorbed into the True One, singing the Glorious Praises of the True One. ||1||Pause||
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਹਿ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
Panddith Parrehi Saadh N Paavehi ||
पंडित पड़हि सादु न पावहि ॥
The Pandits, the religious scholars read, but they do not taste the essence.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਭਰਮਾਵਹਿ ॥
Dhoojai Bhaae Maaeiaa Man Bharamaavehi ||
दूजै भाइ माइआ मनु भरमावहि ॥
In love with duality and Maya, their minds wander, unfocused.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਭ ਸੁਧਿ ਗਵਾਈ ਕਰਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਪਛੋਤਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
Maaeiaa Mohi Sabh Sudhh Gavaaee Kar Avagan Pashhothaavaniaa ||2||
माइआ मोहि सभ सुधि गवाई करि अवगण पछोतावणिआ ॥२॥
The love of Maya has displaced all their understanding; making mistakes, they live in regret. ||2||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਤਤੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Sathigur Milai Thaa Thath Paaeae ||
सतिगुरु मिलै ता ततु पाए ॥
But if they should meet the True Guru, then they obtain the essence of reality;
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
Har Kaa Naam Mann Vasaaeae ||
हरि का नामु मंनि वसाए ॥
The Name of the Lord comes to dwell in their minds.
