बिआपत सुरग नरक अवतार ॥
It torments us through incarnations in heaven and hell.
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਧਨ ਨਿਰਧਨ ਪੇਖਿ ਸੋਭਾ ॥
Biaapath Dhhan Niradhhan Paekh Sobhaa ||
बिआपत धन निरधन पेखि सोभा ॥
It is seen to afflict the rich, the poor and the glorious.
ਮੂਲੁ ਬਿਆਧੀ ਬਿਆਪਸਿ ਲੋਭਾ ॥੧॥
Mool Biaadhhee Biaapas Lobhaa ||1||
मूलु बिआधी बिआपसि लोभा ॥१॥
The source of this illness which torments us is greed. ||1||

माइआ बिआपत बहु परकारी ॥
Maya torments us in so many ways.

It torments us through intoxication with intellectual pride.
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
Biaapath Puthr Kalathr Sang Raathaa ||
बिआपत पुत्र कलत्र संगि राता ॥
It torments us through the love of children and spouse.
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਹਸਤਿ ਘੋੜੇ ਅਰੁ ਬਸਤਾ ॥
Biaapath Hasath Ghorrae Ar Basathaa ||
बिआपत हसति घोड़े अरु बसता ॥
It torments us through elephants, horses and beautiful clothes.
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਰੂਪ ਜੋਬਨ ਮਦ ਮਸਤਾ ॥੨॥
Biaapath Roop Joban Madh Masathaa ||2||
बिआपत रूप जोबन मद मसता ॥२॥
It torments us through the intoxication of wine and the beauty of youth. ||2||

बिआपत भूमि रंक अरु रंगा ॥
It torments landlords, paupers and lovers of pleasure.
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਗੀਤ ਨਾਦ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
Biaapath Geeth Naadh Sun Sangaa ||
बिआपत गीत नाद सुणि संगा ॥
It torments us through the sweet sounds of music and parties.
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਸੇਜ ਮਹਲ ਸੀਗਾਰ ॥
Biaapath Saej Mehal Seegaar ||
बिआपत सेज महल सीगार ॥
It torments us through beautiful beds, palaces and decorations.
ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਅੰਧਿਆਰ ॥੩॥
Panch Dhooth Biaapath Andhhiaar ||3||
पंच दूत बिआपत अंधिआर ॥३॥
It torments us through the darkness of the five evil passions. ||3||
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਹਉ ਫਾਸਾ ॥
Biaapath Karam Karai Ho Faasaa ||
बिआपत करम करै हउ फासा ॥
It torments those who act, entangled in ego.
ਬਿਆਪਤਿ ਗਿਰਸਤ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥
Biaapath Girasath Biaapath Oudhaasaa ||
बिआपति गिरसत बिआपत उदासा ॥
It torments us through household affairs, and it torments us in renunciation.
ਆਚਾਰ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਇਹ ਜਾਤਿ ॥
Aachaar Biouhaar Biaapath Eih Jaath ||
आचार बिउहार बिआपत इह जाति ॥
It torments us through character, lifestyle and social status.
ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗ ਰਾਤ ॥੪॥
Sabh Kishh Biaapath Bin Har Rang Raath ||4||
सभ किछु बिआपत बिनु हरि रंग रात ॥४॥
It torments us through everything, except for those who are imbued with the Love of the Lord. ||4||
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥

संतन के बंधन काटे हरि राइ ॥
The Sovereign Lord King has cut away the bonds of His Saints.
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕਹਾ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਮਾਇ ॥

ता कउ कहा बिआपै माइ ॥
How can Maya torment them?
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਧੂਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਪਾਈ ॥

The eyes are asleep in corruption, gazing upon the beauty of another.

स्रवण सोए सुणि निंद वीचार ॥
The ears are asleep, listening to slanderous stories.
ਰਸਨਾ ਸੋਈ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੀਠੈ ਸਾਦਿ ॥
Rasanaa Soee Lobh Meethai Saadh ||
रसना सोई लोभि मीठै सादि ॥
The tongue is asleep, in its desire for sweet flavors.
ਮਨੁ ਸੋਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਬਿਸਮਾਦਿ ॥੧॥
Man Soeiaa Maaeiaa Bisamaadh ||1||
मनु सोइआ माइआ बिसमादि ॥१॥
The mind is asleep, fascinated by Maya. ||1||
ਇਸੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਗਤੁ ਰਹੈ ॥
Eis Grih Mehi Koee Jaagath Rehai ||
इसु ग्रिह महि कोई जागतु रहै ॥
Those who remain awake in this house are very rare;
ਸਾਬਤੁ ਵਸਤੁ ਓਹੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਲਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Saabath Vasath Ouhu Apanee Lehai ||1|| Rehaao ||
साबतु वसतु ओहु अपनी लहै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
By doing so, they receive the whole thing. ||1||Pause||
ਸਗਲ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਅਪਨੈ ਰਸ ਮਾਤੀ ॥
Sagal Sehaelee Apanai Ras Maathee ||
सगल सहेली अपनै रस माती ॥
All of my companions are intoxicated with their sensory pleasures;
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਤੀ ॥
Grih Apunae Kee Khabar N Jaathee ||
ग्रिह अपुने की खबरि न जाती ॥
They do not know how to guard their own home.
ਮੁਸਨਹਾਰ ਪੰਚ ਬਟਵਾਰੇ ॥
Musanehaar Panch Battavaarae ||
मुसनहार पंच बटवारे ॥
The five thieves have plundered them;
ਸੂਨੇ ਨਗਰਿ ਪਰੇ ਠਗਹਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
Soonae Nagar Parae Thagehaarae ||2||
सूने नगरि परे ठगहारे ॥२॥
The thugs descend upon the unguarded village. ||2||
ਉਨ ਤੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਬਾਪੁ ਨ ਮਾਈ ॥
Oun Thae Raakhai Baap N Maaee ||
उन ते राखै बापु न माई ॥
Our mothers and fathers cannot save us from them;
ਉਨ ਤੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਮੀਤੁ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
Oun Thae Raakhai Meeth N Bhaaee ||
उन ते राखै मीतु न भाई ॥
Friends and brothers cannot protect us from them
ਦਰਬਿ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਨਾ ਓਇ ਰਹਤੇ ॥
Dharab Siaanap Naa Oue Rehathae ||
दरबि सिआणप ना ओइ रहते ॥
They cannot be restrained by wealth or cleverness.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਓਇ ਦੁਸਟ ਵਸਿ ਹੋਤੇ ॥੩॥
Saadhhasang Oue Dhusatt Vas Hothae ||3||
साधसंगि ओइ दुसट वसि होते ॥३॥
Only through the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, can those villains be brought under control. ||3||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਣਿ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Mohi Saaringapaan ||
करि किरपा मोहि सारिंगपाणि ॥
Have Mercy upon me, O Lord, Sustainer of the world.
ਸੰਤਨ ਧੂਰਿ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
Santhan Dhhoor Sarab Nidhhaan ||
संतन धूरि सरब निधान ॥
The dust of the feet of the Saints is all the treasure I need.
ਸਾਬਤੁ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
Saabath Poonjee Sathigur Sang ||
साबतु पूंजी सतिगुर संगि ॥
Without You, I cannot survive, even for an instant. ||1||
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੪॥
Naanak Jaagai Paarabreham Kai Rang ||4||
नानकु जागै पारब्रहम कै रंगि ॥४॥
Nanak is awake to the Love of the Supreme Lord. ||4||
ਸੋ ਜਾਗੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ॥

सो जागै जिसु प्रभु किरपालु ॥
He alone is awake, unto whom God shows His Mercy.

जा कै वसि है सगल जहान ॥
The whole world is under His Power.
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Jaa Kaa Keeaa Sabh Kishh Hoe ||
जा का कीआ सभु किछु होइ ॥
Everything is done by His doing;
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
This Thae Baahar Naahee Koe ||1||
तिस ते बाहरि नाही कोइ ॥१॥
Other than Him, there is nothing at all. ||1||
ਕਹੁ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਹਿ ॥

कहु बेनंती अपुने सतिगुर पाहि ॥
Offer your prayers to your True Guru;
ਕਾਜ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਦੇਇ ਨਿਬਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Kaaj Thumaarae Dhaee Nibaahi ||1|| Rehaao ||
काज तुमारे देइ निबाहि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
He will resolve your affairs. ||1||Pause||
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥
Sabh Thae Ooch Jaa Kaa Dharabaar ||
सभ ते ऊच जा का दरबारु ॥
The Darbaar of His Court is the most exalted of all.
ਸਗਲ ਭਗਤ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
Sagal Bhagath Jaa Kaa Naam Adhhaar ||
सगल भगत जा का नामु अधारु ॥
His Name is the Support of all His devotees.
ਸਰਬ ਬਿਆਪਿਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਧਨੀ ॥
Sarab Biaapith Pooran Dhhanee ||
सरब बिआपित पूरन धनी ॥
The Perfect Master is pervading everywhere.
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਬਨੀ ॥੨॥
Jaa Kee Sobhaa Ghatt Ghatt Banee ||2||
जा की सोभा घटि घटि बनी ॥२॥
His Glory is manifest in each and every heart. ||2||
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦੁਖ ਡੇਰਾ ਢਹੈ ॥
Jis Simarath Dhukh Ddaeraa Dtehai ||
जिसु सिमरत दुख डेरा ढहै ॥
Remembering Him in meditation, the home of sorrow is abolished.
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਜਮੁ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਕਹੈ ॥

जिसु सिमरत जमु किछू न कहै ॥
Remembering Him in meditation, the Messenger of Death shall not touch you.
