Praanee Jaanai Eihu Than Maeraa ||
प्राणी जाणै इहु तनु मेरा ॥
The mortal claims this body as his own.
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਉਆਹੂ ਲਪਟੇਰਾ ॥
Bahur Bahur Ouaahoo Lapattaeraa ||
बहुरि बहुरि उआहू लपटेरा ॥
Again and again, he clings to it.
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਗਿਰਸਤ ਕਾ ਫਾਸਾ ॥
Puthr Kalathr Girasath Kaa Faasaa ||
पुत्र कलत्र गिरसत का फासा ॥
He is entangled with his children, his wife and household affairs.
ਹੋਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੧॥
Hon N Paaeeai Raam Kae Dhaasaa ||1||
होनु न पाईऐ राम के दासा ॥१॥
He cannot be the slave of the Lord. ||1||
ਕਵਨ ਸੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਰਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥
Kavan S Bidhh Jith Raam Gun Gaae ||
कवन सु बिधि जितु राम गुण गाइ ॥
- just so, chanting the Name, the mind becomes peaceful. ||2||
ਕਵਨ ਸੁ ਮਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਤਰੈ ਇਹ ਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

कवन सु मति जितु तरै इह माइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
What is that intellect, by which this person might swim across, O mother? ||1||Pause||
ਜੋ ਭਲਾਈ ਸੋ ਬੁਰਾ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
Jo Bhalaaee So Buraa Jaanai ||
जो भलाई सो बुरा जानै ॥
That which is for his own good, he thinks is evil.
ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੋ ਬਿਖੈ ਸਮਾਨੈ ॥
Saach Kehai So Bikhai Samaanai ||
साचु कहै सो बिखै समानै ॥
If someone tells him the truth, he looks upon that as poison.
ਜਾਣੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਜੀਤ ਅਰੁ ਹਾਰ ॥
Jaanai Naahee Jeeth Ar Haar ||
जाणै नाही जीत अरु हार ॥
He cannot tell victory from defeat.
ਇਹੁ ਵਲੇਵਾ ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥੨॥
Eihu Valaevaa Saakath Sansaar ||2||
इहु वलेवा साकत संसार ॥२॥
This is the way of life in the world of the faithless cynic. ||2||
ਜੋ ਹਲਾਹਲ ਸੋ ਪੀਵੈ ਬਉਰਾ ॥
Jo Halaahal So Peevai Bouraa ||
जो हलाहल सो पीवै बउरा ॥
The demented fool drinks in the deadly poison,
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਉਰਾ ॥
Anmrith Naam Jaanai Kar Kouraa ||
अम्रितु नामु जानै करि कउरा ॥
While he believes the Ambrosial Naam to be bitter.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗ ਕੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਨੇਰਿ ॥
Saadhhasang Kai Naahee Naer ||
साधसंग कै नाही नेरि ॥
He does not even approach the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy;
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਭ੍ਰਮਤਾ ਫੇਰਿ ॥੩॥
Lakh Chouraaseeh Bhramathaa Faer ||3||
लख चउरासीह भ्रमता फेरि ॥३॥
He wanders lost through 8.4 million incarnations. ||3||
ਏਕੈ ਜਾਲਿ ਫਹਾਏ ਪੰਖੀ ॥
Eaekai Jaal Fehaaeae Pankhee ||
एकै जालि फहाए पंखी ॥
The birds are caught in the net of Maya;
ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਭੋਗ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ॥
Ras Ras Bhog Karehi Bahu Rangee ||
रसि रसि भोग करहि बहु रंगी ॥
Immersed in the pleasures of love, they frolic in so many ways.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥

कहु नानक जिसु भए क्रिपाल ॥
Says Nanak, the Perfect Guru has cut away the noose from those,
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕਾਟੇ ਜਾਲ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੮੨॥

गुरि पूरै ता के काटे जाल ॥४॥१३॥८२॥
Unto whom the Lord has shown His Mercy. ||4||13||82||

गउड़ी गुआरेरी महला ५ ॥
Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Mehl:
ਤਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Tho Kirapaa Thae Maarag Paaeeai ||
तउ किरपा ते मारगु पाईऐ ॥
By Your Grace, we find the Way.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
Prabh Kirapaa Thae Naam Dhhiaaeeai ||
प्रभ किरपा ते नामु धिआईऐ ॥
Their bodies are cursed, and their wealth is cursed - they are imbued with Maya. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਛੁਟੈ ॥
Prabh Kirapaa Thae Bandhhan Shhuttai ||
प्रभ किरपा ते बंधन छुटै ॥
The servant carries the bags of money on his head,
ਤਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੁਟੈ ॥੧॥
Tho Kirapaa Thae Houmai Thuttai ||1||
तउ किरपा ते हउमै तुटै ॥१॥
By Your Grace, egotism is eradicated. ||1||
ਤੁਮ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਤਉ ਲਾਗਹ ਸੇਵ ॥
Thum Laavahu Tho Laageh Saev ||
तुम लावहु तउ लागह सेव ॥
As You assign me, so I take to Your service.
ਹਮ ਤੇ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਦੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Ham Thae Kashhoo N Hovai Dhaev ||1|| Rehaao ||
हम ते कछू न होवै देव ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
By myself, I cannot do anything at all, O Divine Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਗਾਵਾ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
Thudhh Bhaavai Thaa Gaavaa Baanee ||
तुधु भावै ता गावा बाणी ॥
If it pleases You, then I sing the Word of Your Bani.
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
Thudhh Bhaavai Thaa Sach Vakhaanee ||
तुधु भावै ता सचु वखाणी ॥
If it pleases You, then I speak the Truth.
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਇਆ ॥
Thudhh Bhaavai Thaa Sathigur Maeiaa ||
तुधु भावै ता सतिगुर मइआ ॥
If it pleases You, then the True Guru showers His Mercy upon me.
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਇਆ ॥੨॥
Sarab Sukhaa Prabh Thaeree Dhaeiaa ||2||
सरब सुखा प्रभ तेरी दइआ ॥२॥
All peace comes by Your Kindness, God. ||2||
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਮਾ ॥
Jo Thudhh Bhaavai So Niramal Karamaa ||
जो तुधु भावै सो निरमल करमा ॥
Whatever pleases You is a pure action of karma.
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਧਰਮਾ ॥
Jo Thudhh Bhaavai So Sach Dhharamaa ||
जो तुधु भावै सो सचु धरमा ॥
Whatever pleases You is the true faith of Dharma.
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਗੁਣ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
Sarab Nidhhaan Gun Thum Hee Paas ||
सरब निधान गुण तुम ही पासि ॥
The treasure of all excellence is with You.
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੩॥
Thoon Saahib Saevak Aradhaas ||3||
तूं साहिबु सेवक अरदासि ॥३॥
Your servant prays to You, O Lord and Master. ||3||
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
Man Than Niramal Hoe Har Rang ||
मनु तनु निरमलु होइ हरि रंगि ॥
Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Mehl:
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਪਾਵਉ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ॥
Sarab Sukhaa Paavo Sathasang ||
सरब सुखा पावउ सतसंगि ॥
All peace is found in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.
ਨਾਮਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਰਹੈ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
Naam Thaerai Rehai Man Raathaa ||
नामि तेरै रहै मनु राता ॥
My mind remains attuned to Your Name;
ਇਹੁ ਕਲਿਆਣੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੮੩॥

इहु कलिआणु नानक करि जाता ॥४॥१४॥८३॥
Nanak affirms this as his greatest pleasure. ||4||14||83||

ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਜੇਤੇ ਤੈ ਚਾਖੇ ॥
Aan Rasaa Jaethae Thai Chaakhae ||
आन रसा जेते तै चाखे ॥
You may taste the other flavors,
ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਲਾਥੇ ॥
Nimakh N Thrisanaa Thaeree Laathhae ||
निमख न त्रिसना तेरी लाथे ॥
But your thirst shall not depart, even for an instant.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਕਾ ਤੂੰ ਚਾਖਹਿ ਸਾਦੁ ॥
Har Ras Kaa Thoon Chaakhehi Saadh ||
हरि रस का तूं चाखहि सादु ॥
You may have horses as fast as the wind, elephants to ride on,
ਚਾਖਤ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਹਿ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥੧॥
Chaakhath Hoe Rehehi Bisamaadh ||1||
चाखत होइ रहहि बिसमादु ॥१॥
- upon tasting it, you shall be wonder-struck and amazed. ||1||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਪੀਉ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
Anmrith Rasanaa Peeo Piaaree ||
अम्रितु रसना पीउ पिआरी ॥
O dear beloved tongue, drink in the Ambrosial Nectar.
ਇਹ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੀ ਹੋਇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Eih Ras Raathee Hoe Thripathaaree ||1|| Rehaao ||
इह रस राती होइ त्रिपतारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Imbued with this sublime essence, you shall be satisfied. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਜਿਹਵੇ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
Hae Jihavae Thoon Raam Gun Gaao ||
हे जिहवे तूं राम गुण गाउ ॥
O tongue, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਉ ॥
Nimakh Nimakh Har Har Har Dhhiaao ||
निमख निमख हरि हरि हरि धिआउ ॥
Each and every moment, meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, Har.
ਆਨ ਨ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
Aan N Suneeai Kathehoon Jaaeeai ||
आन न सुनीऐ कतहूं जाईऐ ॥
Do not listen to any other, and do not go anywhere else.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
Saadhhasangath Vaddabhaagee Paaeeai ||2||
साधसंगति वडभागी पाईऐ ॥२॥
By great good fortune, you shall find the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||2||
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਜਿਹਵੇ ਆਰਾਧਿ ॥
Aath Pehar Jihavae Aaraadhh ||
आठ पहर जिहवे आराधि ॥
Twenty-four hours a day, O tongue, dwell upon God,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਆਗਾਧਿ ॥
Paarabreham Thaakur Aagaadhh ||
पारब्रहम ठाकुर आगाधि ॥
The Unfathomable, Supreme Lord and Master.
ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ॥
Eehaa Oohaa Sadhaa Suhaelee ||
ईहा ऊहा सदा सुहेली ॥
Here and hereafter, you shall be happy forever.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਤ ਰਸਨ ਅਮੋਲੀ ॥੩॥
Har Gun Gaavath Rasan Amolee ||3||
हरि गुण गावत रसन अमोली ॥३॥
Chanting the Glorious Praises of the Lord, O tongue, you shall become priceless. ||3||
ਬਨਸਪਤਿ ਮਉਲੀ ਫਲ ਫੁਲ ਪੇਡੇ ॥
Banasapath Moulee Fal Ful Paeddae ||
बनसपति मउली फल फुल पेडे ॥
All the vegetation will blossom forth for you, flowering in fruition;
ਇਹ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੀ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਛੋਡੇ ॥
Eih Ras Raathee Bahur N Shhoddae ||
इह रस राती बहुरि न छोडे ॥
Imbued with this sublime essence, you shall never leave it again.
ਆਨ ਨ ਰਸ ਕਸ ਲਵੈ ਨ ਲਾਈ ॥
Aan N Ras Kas Lavai N Laaee ||
आन न रस कस लवै न लाई ॥
No other sweet and tasty flavors can compare to it.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੮੪॥
Kahu Naanak Gur Bheae Hai Sehaaee ||4||15||84||
कहु नानक गुर भए है सहाई ॥४॥१५॥८४॥
Says Nanak, the Guru has become my Support. ||4||15||84||
