How can I cross over the terrifying world-ocean? ||2||
ਕਵਨ ਤਪੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਤਪੀਆ ਹੋਇ ॥

कवन तपु जितु तपीआ होइ ॥
What is that penance, by which I may become a penitent?

कवनु सु नामु हउमै मलु खोइ ॥३॥
What is that Name, by which the filth of egotism may be washed away? ||3||

गुण पूजा गिआन धिआन नानक सगल घाल ॥
Virtue, worship, spiritual wisdom, meditation and all service, O Nanak,
ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੪॥
Jis Kar Kirapaa Sathigur Milai Dhaeiaal ||4||
जिसु करि किरपा सतिगुरु मिलै दइआल ॥४॥
Are obtained from the True Guru, when, in His Mercy and Kindness, He meets us. ||4||
ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਗੁਨੁ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
This Hee Gun Thin Hee Prabh Jaathaa ||
तिस ही गुनु तिन ही प्रभु जाता ॥
They alone receive this merit, and they alone know God,
ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਮਾਨਿ ਲੇਇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੩੬॥੧੦੫॥

आपन तनु नही जा को गरबा ॥
The body which you are so proud of, does not belong to you.
ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲਖ ਨਹੀ ਆਪਨ ਦਰਬਾ ॥੧॥
Raaj Milakh Nehee Aapan Dharabaa ||1||
राज मिलख नही आपन दरबा ॥१॥
Power, property and wealth are not yours. ||1||
ਆਪਨ ਨਹੀ ਕਾ ਕਉ ਲਪਟਾਇਓ ॥
Aapan Nehee Kaa Ko Lapattaaeiou ||
आपन नही का कउ लपटाइओ ॥
They are not yours, so why do you cling to them?
ਆਪਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

आपन नामु सतिगुर ते पाइओ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is yours; it is received from the True Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਆਪਨ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਈ ॥
Suth Banithaa Aapan Nehee Bhaaee ||
सुत बनिता आपन नही भाई ॥
Children, spouse and siblings are not yours.
ਇਸਟ ਮੀਤ ਆਪ ਬਾਪੁ ਨ ਮਾਈ ॥੨॥
Eisatt Meeth Aap Baap N Maaee ||2||
इसट मीत आप बापु न माई ॥२॥
Dear friends, mother and father are not yours. ||2||
ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੂਪਾ ਫੁਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਦਾਮ ॥
Sueinaa Roopaa Fun Nehee Dhaam ||
सुइना रूपा फुनि नही दाम ॥
Gold, silver and money are not yours.
ਹੈਵਰ ਗੈਵਰ ਆਪਨ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਮ ॥੩॥
Haivar Gaivar Aapan Nehee Kaam ||3||
हैवर गैवर आपन नही काम ॥३॥
Fine horses and magnificent elephants are of no use to you. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਿ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥

कहु नानक जो गुरि बखसि मिलाइआ ॥
Says Nanak, those whom the Guru forgives, meet with the Lord.

तिस का सभु किछु जिस का हरि राइआ ॥४॥३७॥१०६॥
Everything belongs to those who have the Lord as their King. ||4||37||106||

I place the Guru's Feet on my forehead,
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਲਾਥੇ ॥੧॥
Thaa Thae Dhukh Maerae Sagalae Laathhae ||1||
ता ते दुख मेरे सगले लाथे ॥१॥
And all my pains are gone. ||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ॥
Sathigur Apunae Ko Kurabaanee ||
सतिगुर अपुने कउ कुरबानी ॥
I am a sacrifice to my True Guru.
ਆਤਮ ਚੀਨਿ ਪਰਮ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

आतम चीनि परम रंग मानी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
I have come to understand my soul, and I enjoy supreme bliss. ||1||Pause||
ਚਰਣ ਰੇਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੀ ॥

चरण रेणु गुर की मुखि लागी ॥
I have applied the dust of the Guru's Feet to my face,
ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥੨॥
Ahanbudhh Thin Sagal Thiaagee ||2||
अह्मबुधि तिनि सगल तिआगी ॥२॥
Which has removed all my arrogant intellect. ||2||
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਲਗੋ ਮਨਿ ਮੀਠਾ ॥
Gur Kaa Sabadh Lago Man Meethaa ||
गुर का सबदु लगो मनि मीठा ॥
The Word of the Guru's Shabad has become sweet to my mind,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੩॥
Paarabreham Thaa Thae Mohi Ddeethaa ||3||
पारब्रहमु ता ते मोहि डीठा ॥३॥
And I behold the Supreme Lord God. ||3||
ਗੁਰੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
Gur Sukhadhaathaa Gur Karathaar ||
गुरु सुखदाता गुरु करतारु ॥
The Guru is the Giver of peace; the Guru is the Creator.

जा कै ऊणा कछहू नाहि ॥१॥
who lacks nothing. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਸਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਮੀਤ ॥

हरि सा प्रीतमु करि मन मीत ॥
Make the Beloved Lord your friend.
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਦ ਚੀਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Praan Adhhaar Raakhahu Sadh Cheeth ||1|| Rehaao ||
प्रान अधारु राखहु सद चीत ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Keep Him constantly in your mind; He is the Support of the breath of life. ||1||Pause||
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੂੰ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਸੇਵਿ ॥
Rae Man Maerae Thoon Thaa Ko Saev ||
रे मन मेरे तूं ता कउ सेवि ॥
O my mind, serve Him;
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਦੇਵ ॥੨॥
Aadh Purakh Aparanpar Dhaev ||2||
आदि पुरख अपर्मपर देव ॥२॥
He is the Primal Being, the Infinite Divine Lord. ||2||
ਤਿਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਮਨ ਕਰਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਸਾ ॥
This Oopar Man Kar Thoon Aasaa ||
तिसु ऊपरि मन करि तूं आसा ॥
Place your hopes in the One
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ॥੩॥
Aadh Jugaadh Jaa Kaa Bharavaasaa ||3||
आदि जुगादि जा का भरवासा ॥३॥
Who is the Support of all beings, from the very beginning of time, and throughout the ages. ||3||
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Jaa Kee Preeth Sadhaa Sukh Hoe ||
जा की प्रीति सदा सुखु होइ ॥
His Love brings eternal peace;

मीत के करतब कुसल समाना ॥१॥
My Friend's actions are pleasing to me. ||1||
ਏਕਾ ਟੇਕ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਚੀਤ ॥
Eaekaa Ttaek Maerai Man Cheeth ||
एका टेक मेरै मनि चीत ॥
Within my conscious mind, the One Lord is my only Support.
ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੁ ਹਮਰਾ ਮੀਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मीतु हमारा वेपरवाहा ॥
My Friend is Carefree.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਅਸਨਾਹਾ ॥੨॥
Gur Kirapaa Thae Mohi Asanaahaa ||2||
गुर किरपा ते मोहि असनाहा ॥२॥
By Guru's Grace, I give my love to Him. ||2||
ਮੀਤੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
Meeth Hamaaraa Antharajaamee ||
मीतु हमारा अंतरजामी ॥
My Friend is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
ਸਮਰਥ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੩॥
Samarathh Purakh Paarabreham Suaamee ||3||
समरथ पुरखु पारब्रहमु सुआमी ॥३॥
He is the All-powerful Being, the Supreme Lord and Master. ||3||
