Beautiful and sublime is the glory and the understanding of those who focus their consciousness on the Lord. ||2||

ਅਖੀ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਵੇਖਣਾ ਵਿਣੁ ਕੰਨਾ ਸੁਨਣਾ ॥
Akhee Baajhahu Vaekhanaa Vin Kannaa Sunanaa ||
अखी बाझहु वेखणा विणु कंना सुनणा ॥
To see without eyes; to hear without ears;
ਪੈਰਾ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਚਲਣਾ ਵਿਣੁ ਹਥਾ ਕਰਣਾ ॥
Pairaa Baajhahu Chalanaa Vin Hathhaa Karanaa ||
पैरा बाझहु चलणा विणु हथा करणा ॥
To walk without feet; to work without hands;
ਜੀਭੈ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਇਉ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰਣਾ ॥
Jeebhai Baajhahu Bolanaa Eio Jeevath Maranaa ||
जीभै बाझहु बोलणा इउ जीवत मरणा ॥
To speak without a tongue-like this, one remains dead while yet alive.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਕੈ ਤਉ ਖਸਮੈ ਮਿਲਣਾ ॥੧॥
Naanak Hukam Pashhaan Kai Tho Khasamai Milanaa ||1||
नानक हुकमु पछाणि कै तउ खसमै मिलणा ॥१॥
O Nanak, recognize the Hukam of the Lord's Command, and merge with your Lord and Master. ||1||

ਦਿਸੈ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸਾਉ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
Dhisai Suneeai Jaaneeai Saao N Paaeiaa Jaae ||
दिसै सुणीऐ जाणीऐ साउ न पाइआ जाइ ॥
He is seen, heard and known, but His subtle essence is not obtained.
ਰੁਹਲਾ ਟੁੰਡਾ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਕਿਉ ਗਲਿ ਲਗੈ ਧਾਇ ॥
Ruhalaa Ttunddaa Andhhulaa Kio Gal Lagai Dhhaae ||
रुहला टुंडा अंधुला किउ गलि लगै धाइ ॥
How can the lame, armless and blind person run to embrace the Lord?
ਭੈ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਕਰ ਭਾਵ ਕੇ ਲੋਇਣ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
Bhai Kae Charan Kar Bhaav Kae Loein Surath Karaee ||
भै के चरण कर भाव के लोइण सुरति करेइ ॥
Let the Fear of God be your feet, and let His Love be your hands; let His Understanding be your eyes.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਸਿਆਣੀਏ ਇਵ ਕੰਤ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
Naanak Kehai Siaaneeeae Eiv Kanth Milaavaa Hoe ||2||
नानकु कहै सिआणीए इव कंत मिलावा होइ ॥२॥
Says Nanak, in this way, O wise soul-bride, you shall be united with your Husband Lord. ||2||

Sadhaa Sadhaa Thoon Eaek Hai Thudhh Dhoojaa Khael Rachaaeiaa ||
सदा सदा तूं एकु है तुधु दूजा खेलु रचाइआ ॥
Forever and ever, You are the only One; You set the play of duality in motion.
ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਲੋਭੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੰਤਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Houmai Garab Oupaae Kai Lobh Anthar Janthaa Paaeiaa ||
हउमै गरबु उपाइ कै लोभु अंतरि जंता पाइआ ॥
You created egotism and arrogant pride, and You placed greed within our beings.
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖੁ ਤੂ ਸਭ ਕਰੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥
Jio Bhaavai Thio Rakh Thoo Sabh Karae Thaeraa Karaaeiaa ||
जिउ भावै तिउ रखु तू सभ करे तेरा कराइआ ॥
Keep me as it pleases Your Will; everyone acts as You cause them to act.
ਇਕਨਾ ਬਖਸਹਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਤੁਧੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
Eikanaa Bakhasehi Mael Laihi Guramathee Thudhhai Laaeiaa ||
इकना बखसहि मेलि लैहि गुरमती तुधै लाइआ ॥
Some are forgiven, and merge with You; through the Guru's Teachings, we are joined to You.
ਇਕਿ ਖੜੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
Eik Kharrae Karehi Thaeree Chaakaree Vin Naavai Hor N Bhaaeiaa ||
इकि खड़े करहि तेरी चाकरी विणु नावै होरु न भाइआ ॥
Some stand and serve You; without the Name, nothing else pleases them.
ਹੋਰੁ ਕਾਰ ਵੇਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਇਕਿ ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
Hor Kaar Vaekaar Hai Eik Sachee Kaarai Laaeiaa ||
होरु कार वेकार है इकि सची कारै लाइआ ॥
Any other task would be worthless to them-You have enjoined them to Your True Service.
ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਹੈ ਇਕਿ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਰਹੇ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
Puth Kalath Kuttanb Hai Eik Alipath Rehae Jo Thudhh Bhaaeiaa ||
पुतु कलतु कुट्मबु है इकि अलिपतु रहे जो तुधु भाइआ ॥
In the midst of children, spouse and relations, some still remain detached; they are pleasing to Your Will.
ਓਹਿ ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਬਾਹਰਹੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
Ouhi Andharahu Baaharahu Niramalae Sachai Naae Samaaeiaa ||3||
ओहि अंदरहु बाहरहु निरमले सचै नाइ समाइआ ॥३॥
Inwardly and outwardly, they are pure, and they are absorbed in the True Name. ||3||

ਸੁਇਨੇ ਕੈ ਪਰਬਤਿ ਗੁਫਾ ਕਰੀ ਕੈ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਇਆਲਿ ॥
Sueinae Kai Parabath Gufaa Karee Kai Paanee Paeiaal ||
सुइने कै परबति गुफा करी कै पाणी पइआलि ॥
I may make a cave, in a mountain of gold, or in the water of the nether regions;
ਕੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਕੈ ਆਕਾਸੀ ਉਰਧਿ ਰਹਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਰਿ ॥
Kai Vich Dhharathee Kai Aakaasee Ouradhh Rehaa Sir Bhaar ||
कै विचि धरती कै आकासी उरधि रहा सिरि भारि ॥
I may remain standing on my head, upside-down, on the earth or up in the sky;
ਪੁਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਕਪੜੁ ਪਹਿਰਾ ਧੋਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਰਿ ॥
Pur Kar Kaaeiaa Kaparr Pehiraa Dhhovaa Sadhaa Kaar ||
पुरु करि काइआ कपड़ु पहिरा धोवा सदा कारि ॥
I may totally cover my body with clothes, and wash them continually;
ਬਗਾ ਰਤਾ ਪੀਅਲਾ ਕਾਲਾ ਬੇਦਾ ਕਰੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥
Bagaa Rathaa Peealaa Kaalaa Baedhaa Karee Pukaar ||
बगा रता पीअला काला बेदा करी पुकार ॥
I may shout out loud, the white, red, yellow and black Vedas;
ਹੋਇ ਕੁਚੀਲੁ ਰਹਾ ਮਲੁ ਧਾਰੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
Hoe Kucheel Rehaa Mal Dhhaaree Dhuramath Math Vikaar ||
होइ कुचीलु रहा मलु धारी दुरमति मति विकार ॥
I may even live in dirt and filth. And yet, all this is just a product of evil-mindedness, and intellectual corruption.
ਨਾ ਹਉ ਨਾ ਮੈ ਨਾ ਹਉ ਹੋਵਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
Naa Ho Naa Mai Naa Ho Hovaa Naanak Sabadh Veechaar ||1||
ना हउ ना मै ना हउ होवा नानक सबदु वीचारि ॥१॥
I was not, I am not, and I will never be anything at all! O Nanak, I dwell only on the Word of the Shabad. ||1||

ਵਸਤ੍ਰ ਪਖਾਲਿ ਪਖਾਲੇ ਕਾਇਆ ਆਪੇ ਸੰਜਮਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
Vasathr Pakhaal Pakhaalae Kaaeiaa Aapae Sanjam Hovai ||
वसत्र पखालि पखाले काइआ आपे संजमि होवै ॥
They wash their clothes, and scrub their bodies, and try to practice self-discipline.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਲਗੀ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣੈ ਬਾਹਰਹੁ ਮਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਧੋਵੈ ॥
Anthar Mail Lagee Nehee Jaanai Baaharahu Mal Mal Dhhovai ||
अंतरि मैलु लगी नही जाणै बाहरहु मलि मलि धोवै ॥
But they are not aware of the filth staining their inner being, while they try and try to wash off the outer dirt.
ਅੰਧਾ ਭੂਲਿ ਪਇਆ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੇ ॥
Andhhaa Bhool Paeiaa Jam Jaalae ||
अंधा भूलि पइआ जम जाले ॥
The blind go astray, caught by the noose of Death.
ਵਸਤੁ ਪਰਾਈ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਾਲੇ ॥
Vasath Paraaee Apunee Kar Jaanai Houmai Vich Dhukh Ghaalae ||
वसतु पराई अपुनी करि जानै हउमै विचि दुखु घाले ॥
They see other people's property as their own, and in egotism, they suffer in pain.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੁਟੈ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥
Naanak Guramukh Houmai Thuttai Thaa Har Har Naam Dhhiaavai ||
नानक गुरमुखि हउमै तुटै ता हरि हरि नामु धिआवै ॥
O Nanak, the egotism of the Gurmukhs is broken, and then, they meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੇ ਨਾਮੋ ਆਰਾਧੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
Naam Japae Naamo Aaraadhhae Naamae Sukh Samaavai ||2||
नामु जपे नामो आराधे नामे सुखि समावै ॥२॥
They chant the Naam, meditate on the Naam, and through the Naam, they are absorbed in peace. ||2||

ਕਾਇਆ ਹੰਸਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥

काइआ हंसि संजोगु मेलि मिलाइआ ॥
Destiny has brought together and united the body and the soul-swan.
ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਕੀਆ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
Thin Hee Keeaa Vijog Jin Oupaaeiaa ||
तिन ही कीआ विजोगु जिनि उपाइआ ॥
He who created them, also separates them.
ਮੂਰਖੁ ਭੋਗੇ ਭੋਗੁ ਦੁਖ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
Moorakh Bhogae Bhog Dhukh Sabaaeiaa ||
मूरखु भोगे भोगु दुख सबाइआ ॥
The fools enjoy their pleasures; they must also endure all their pains.
ਸੁਖਹੁ ਉਠੇ ਰੋਗ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
Sukhahu Outhae Rog Paap Kamaaeiaa ||
सुखहु उठे रोग पाप कमाइआ ॥
From pleasures, arise diseases and the commission of sins.
ਹਰਖਹੁ ਸੋਗੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਖਪਾਇਆ ॥
Harakhahu Sog Vijog Oupaae Khapaaeiaa ||
हरखहु सोगु विजोगु उपाइ खपाइआ ॥
From sinful pleasures come sorrow, separation, birth and death.
ਮੂਰਖ ਗਣਤ ਗਣਾਇ ਝਗੜਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Moorakh Ganath Ganaae Jhagarraa Paaeiaa ||
मूरख गणत गणाइ झगड़ा पाइआ ॥
The fools try to account for their misdeeds, and argue uselessly.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਨਿਬੇੜੁ ਝਗੜੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
Sathigur Hathh Nibaerr Jhagarr Chukaaeiaa ||
सतिगुर हथि निबेड़ु झगड़ु चुकाइआ ॥
The judgement is in the Hands of the True Guru, who puts an end to the argument.
ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਗੁ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
Karathaa Karae S Hog N Chalai Chalaaeiaa ||4||
करता करे सु होगु न चलै चलाइआ ॥४॥
Whatever the Creator does, comes to pass. It cannot be changed by anyone's efforts. ||4||
