Gauree, First Mehl:
ਕਿਰਤੁ ਪਇਆ ਨਹ ਮੇਟੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
Kirath Paeiaa Neh Maettai Koe ||
किरतु पइआ नह मेटै कोइ ॥
Past actions cannot be erased.
ਕਿਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਕਿਆ ਆਗੈ ਹੋਇ ॥
Kiaa Jaanaa Kiaa Aagai Hoe ||
किआ जाणा किआ आगै होइ ॥
What do we know of what will happen hereafter?
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਸੋਈ ਹੂਆ ॥
Jo This Bhaanaa Soee Hooaa ||
जो तिसु भाणा सोई हूआ ॥
Whatever pleases Him shall come to pass.
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣੈ ਵਾਲਾ ਦੂਆ ॥੧॥
Avar N Karanai Vaalaa Dhooaa ||1||
अवरु न करणै वाला दूआ ॥१॥
There is no other Doer except Him. ||1||
ਨਾ ਜਾਣਾ ਕਰਮ ਕੇਵਡ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
Naa Jaanaa Karam Kaevadd Thaeree Dhaath ||
ना जाणा करम केवड तेरी दाति ॥
I do not know about karma, or how great Your gifts are.
ਕਰਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਜਾਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Karam Dhharam Thaerae Naam Kee Jaath ||1|| Rehaao ||
करमु धरमु तेरे नाम की जाति ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
The karma of actions, the Dharma of righteousness, social class and status, are contained within Your Name. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂ ਏਵਡੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
Thoo Eaevadd Dhaathaa Dhaevanehaar ||
तू एवडु दाता देवणहारु ॥
You are So Great, O Giver, O Great Giver!
ਤੋਟਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
Thott Naahee Thudhh Bhagath Bhanddaar ||
तोटि नाही तुधु भगति भंडार ॥
The treasure of Your devotional worship is never exhausted.
ਕੀਆ ਗਰਬੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
Keeaa Garab N Aavai Raas ||
कीआ गरबु न आवै रासि ॥
One who takes pride in himself shall never be right.
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੨॥
Jeeo Pindd Sabh Thaerai Paas ||2||
जीउ पिंडु सभु तेरै पासि ॥२॥
The soul and body are all at Your disposal. ||2||
ਤੂ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲਹਿ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
Thoo Maar Jeevaalehi Bakhas Milaae ||
तू मारि जीवालहि बखसि मिलाइ ॥
You kill and rejuvenate. You forgive and merge us into Yourself.
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੀ ਤਿਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਇ ॥
Jio Bhaavee Thio Naam Japaae ||
जिउ भावी तिउ नामु जपाइ ॥
As it pleases You, You inspire us to chant Your Name.
ਤੂੰ ਦਾਨਾ ਬੀਨਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਮੇਰੈ ॥
Thoon Dhaanaa Beenaa Saachaa Sir Maerai ||
तूं दाना बीना साचा सिरि मेरै ॥
You are All-knowing, All-seeing and True, O my Supreme Lord.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ਭਰੋਸੈ ਤੇਰੈ ॥੩॥
Guramath Dhaee Bharosai Thaerai ||3||
गुरमति देइ भरोसै तेरै ॥३॥
Please, bless me with the Guru's Teachings; my faith is in You alone. ||3||
ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
Than Mehi Mail Naahee Man Raathaa ||
तन महि मैलु नाही मनु राता ॥
One whose mind is attuned to the Lord, has no pollution in his body.
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
Gur Bachanee Sach Sabadh Pashhaathaa ||
गुर बचनी सचु सबदि पछाता ॥
Through the Guru's Word, the True Shabad is realized.
ਤੇਰਾ ਤਾਣੁ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
Thaeraa Thaan Naam Kee Vaddiaaee ||
तेरा ताणु नाम की वडिआई ॥
All Power is Yours, through the greatness of Your Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਹਣਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
Naanak Rehanaa Bhagath Saranaaee ||4||10||
नानक रहणा भगति सरणाई ॥४॥१०॥
Nanak abides in the Sanctuary of Your devotees. ||4||10||

ਜਿਨਿ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਹਾਇਆ ਅਪਿਓ ਪੀਆਇਆ ॥
Jin Akathh Kehaaeiaa Apiou Peeaaeiaa ||
जिनि अकथु कहाइआ अपिओ पीआइआ ॥
Those who speak the Unspoken, drink in the Nectar.
ਅਨ ਭੈ ਵਿਸਰੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
An Bhai Visarae Naam Samaaeiaa ||1||
अन भै विसरे नामि समाइआ ॥१॥
Other fears are forgotten, and they are absorbed into the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਕਿਆ ਡਰੀਐ ਡਰੁ ਡਰਹਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥
Kiaa Ddareeai Ddar Ddarehi Samaanaa ||
किआ डरीऐ डरु डरहि समाना ॥
Why should we fear, when fear is dispelled by the Fear of God?
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Poorae Gur Kai Sabadh Pashhaanaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
पूरे गुर कै सबदि पछाना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Through the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect Guru, I recognize God. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਰ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
Jis Nar Raam Ridhai Har Raas ||
जिसु नर रामु रिदै हरि रासि ॥
Those whose hearts are filled with the Lord's essence are blessed and acclaimed,
ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥੨॥
Sehaj Subhaae Milae Saabaas ||2||
सहजि सुभाइ मिले साबासि ॥२॥
And intuitively absorbed into the Lord. ||2||
ਜਾਹਿ ਸਵਾਰੈ ਸਾਝ ਬਿਆਲ ॥
Jaahi Savaarai Saajh Biaal ||
जाहि सवारै साझ बिआल ॥
Those whom the Lord puts to sleep, evening and morning
ਇਤ ਉਤ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬਾਧੇ ਕਾਲ ॥੩॥
Eith Outh Manamukh Baadhhae Kaal ||3||
इत उत मनमुख बाधे काल ॥३॥
- those self-willed manmukhs are bound and gagged by Death, here and hereafter. ||3||
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ॥
Ahinis Raam Ridhai Sae Poorae ||
अहिनिसि रामु रिदै से पूरे ॥
Those whose hearts are filled with the Lord, day and night, are perfect.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਮਿਲੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਦੂਰੇ ॥੪॥੧੧॥
Naanak Raam Milae Bhram Dhoorae ||4||11||
नानक राम मिले भ्रम दूरे ॥४॥११॥
O Nanak, they merge into the Lord, and their doubts are cast away. ||4||11||

Gauree, First Mehl:
ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੁ ॥
Janam Marai Thrai Gun Hithakaar ||
जनमि मरै त्रै गुण हितकारु ॥
One who loves the three qualities is subject to birth and death.
ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦ ਕਥਹਿ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥
Chaarae Baedh Kathhehi Aakaar ||
चारे बेद कथहि आकारु ॥
The four Vedas speak only of the visible forms.
ਤੀਨਿ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਕਹਹਿ ਵਖਿਆਨੁ ॥
Theen Avasathhaa Kehehi Vakhiaan ||
तीनि अवसथा कहहि वखिआनु ॥
They describe and explain the three states of mind,
ਤੁਰੀਆਵਸਥਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੧॥
Thureeaavasathhaa Sathigur Thae Har Jaan ||1||
तुरीआवसथा सतिगुर ते हरि जानु ॥१॥
But the fourth state, union with the Lord, is known only through the True Guru. ||1||
ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤਰਣਾ ॥
Raam Bhagath Gur Saevaa Tharanaa ||
राम भगति गुर सेवा तरणा ॥
Through devotional worship of the Lord, and service to the Guru, one swims across.
ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਹੈ ਮਰਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Baahurr Janam N Hoe Hai Maranaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
बाहुड़ि जनमु न होइ है मरणा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Then, one is not born again, and is not subject to death. ||1||Pause||
ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਕਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
Chaar Padhaarathh Kehai Sabh Koee ||
चारि पदारथ कहै सभु कोई ॥
Everyone speaks of the four great blessings;
ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
Sinmrith Saasath Panddith Mukh Soee ||
सिम्रिति सासत पंडित मुखि सोई ॥
The Simritees, the Shaastras and the Pandits speak of them as well.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਅਰਥੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Bin Gur Arathh Beechaar N Paaeiaa ||
बिनु गुर अरथु बीचारु न पाइआ ॥
But without the Guru, they do not understand their true significance.
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
Mukath Padhaarathh Bhagath Har Paaeiaa ||2||
मुकति पदारथु भगति हरि पाइआ ॥२॥
The treasure of liberation is obtained through devotional worship of the Lord. ||2||
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
Jaa Kai Hiradhai Vasiaa Har Soee ||
जा कै हिरदै वसिआ हरि सोई ॥
Those, within whose hearts the Lord dwells,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
Guramukh Bhagath Paraapath Hoee ||
गुरमुखि भगति परापति होई ॥
Become Gurmukh; they receive the blessings of devotional worship.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ॥
Har Kee Bhagath Mukath Aanandh ||
हरि की भगति मुकति आनंदु ॥
Through devotional worship of the Lord, liberation and bliss are obtained.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦੁ ॥੩॥
Guramath Paaeae Paramaanandh ||3||
गुरमति पाए परमानंदु ॥३॥
Through the Guru's Teachings, supreme ecstasy is obtained. ||3||
ਜਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
Jin Paaeiaa Gur Dhaekh Dhikhaaeiaa ||
जिनि पाइआ गुरि देखि दिखाइआ ॥
One who meets the Guru, beholds Him, and inspires others to behold Him as well.
ਆਸਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰਾਸੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ॥
Aasaa Maahi Niraas Bujhaaeiaa ||
आसा माहि निरासु बुझाइआ ॥
In the midst of hope, the Guru teaches us to live above hope and desire.
ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥੁ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥
Dheenaa Naathh Sarab Sukhadhaathaa ||
दीना नाथु सरब सुखदाता ॥
He is the Master of the meek, the Giver of peace to all.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੪॥੧੨॥
Naanak Har Charanee Man Raathaa ||4||12||
नानक हरि चरणी मनु राता ॥४॥१२॥
Nanak's mind is imbued with the Lotus Feet of the Lord. ||4||12||

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਾਇਆ ਰਹੈ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਬਾਜੀ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੋ ॥
Anmrith Kaaeiaa Rehai Sukhaalee Baajee Eihu Sansaaro ||
अम्रित काइआ रहै सुखाली बाजी इहु संसारो ॥
With your nectar-like body, you live in comfort, but this world is just a passing drama.
ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੁਚੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਉਠਾਵਹਿ ਭਾਰੋ ॥
Lab Lobh Much Koorr Kamaavehi Bahuth Outhaavehi Bhaaro ||
लबु लोभु मुचु कूड़ु कमावहि बहुतु उठावहि भारो ॥
You practice greed, avarice and great falsehood, and you carry such a heavy burden.
ਤੂੰ ਕਾਇਆ ਮੈ ਰੁਲਦੀ ਦੇਖੀ ਜਿਉ ਧਰ ਉਪਰਿ ਛਾਰੋ ॥੧॥
Thoon Kaaeiaa Mai Ruladhee Dhaekhee Jio Dhhar Oupar Shhaaro ||1||
तूं काइआ मै रुलदी देखी जिउ धर उपरि छारो ॥१॥
O body, I have seen you blowing away like dust on the earth. ||1||
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਸਿਖ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥
Sun Sun Sikh Hamaaree ||
सुणि सुणि सिख हमारी ॥
Listen - listen to my advice!
ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕੀਤਾ ਰਹਸੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਅੜੇ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Sukirath Keethaa Rehasee Maerae Jeearrae Bahurr N Aavai Vaaree ||1|| Rehaao ||
सुक्रितु कीता रहसी मेरे जीअड़े बहुड़ि न आवै वारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Only the good deeds which you have done shall remain with you, O my soul. This opportunity shall not come again! ||1||Pause||
