Gur Pooraa Paaeiaa Vaddabhaagee Har Manthra Dheeaa Man Thaadtae ||1||
गुरु पूरा पाइआ वडभागी हरि मंत्रु दीआ मनु ठाढे ॥१॥
I have found the Perfect Guru, through great good fortune; He has given me the Mantra of the Lord's Name, and my mind has become quiet and tranquil. ||1||

Hamarai Masathak Dhaag Dhagaanaa Ham Karaj Guroo Bahu Saadtae ||
हमरै मसतकि दागु दगाना हम करज गुरू बहु साढे ॥
My forehead has been branded with His brand; I owe such a great debt to the Guru.
ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਭਉ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਢੇ ॥੨॥
Paroupakaar Punn Bahu Keeaa Bho Dhuthar Thaar Paraadtae ||2||
परउपकारु पुंनु बहु कीआ भउ दुतरु तारि पराढे ॥२॥
He has been so generous and kind to me; He has carried me across the treacherous and terrifying world-ocean. ||2||
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਕੂਰੇ ਗਾਢਨ ਗਾਢੇ ॥
Jin Ko Preeth Ridhai Har Naahee Thin Koorae Gaadtan Gaadtae ||
जिन कउ प्रीति रिदै हरि नाही तिन कूरे गाढन गाढे ॥
Those who do not have love for the Lord within their hearts, harbor only false intentions and goals.
ਜਿਉ ਪਾਣੀ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਤ ਹੈ ਤਿਉ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਗਰਭਿ ਗਲਾਢੇ ॥੩॥
Jio Paanee Kaagadh Binas Jaath Hai Thio Manamukh Garabh Galaadtae ||3||
जिउ पाणी कागदु बिनसि जात है तिउ मनमुख गरभि गलाढे ॥३॥
As paper breaks down and dissolves in water, the self-willed manmukh wastes away in arrogant pride. ||3||
ਹਮ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਹ ਆਗੈ ਜਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਉ ਠਾਢੇ ॥
Ham Jaaniaa Kashhoo N Jaaneh Aagai Jio Har Raakhai Thio Thaadtae ||
हम जानिआ कछू न जानह आगै जिउ हरि राखै तिउ ठाढे ॥
I know nothing, and I do not know the future; as the Lord keeps me, so do I stand.

Kaam Karodhh Nagar Bahu Bhariaa Mil Saadhhoo Khanddal Khanddaa Hae ||
कामि करोधि नगरु बहु भरिआ मिलि साधू खंडल खंडा हे ॥
The body-village is filled to overflowing with sexual desire and anger, which were broken into bits when I met with the Holy Saint.
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਤ ਲਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਮੰਡਲ ਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥

पूरबि लिखत लिखे गुरु पाइआ मनि हरि लिव मंडल मंडा हे ॥१॥
By pre-ordained destiny, I have met with the Guru. I have entered into the realm of the Lord's Love. ||1||
ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਅੰਜੁਲੀ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
Kar Saadhhoo Anjulee Punn Vaddaa Hae ||
करि साधू अंजुली पुंनु वडा हे ॥
Greet the Holy Saint with your palms pressed together; this is an act of great merit.
ਕਰਿ ਡੰਡਉਤ ਪੁਨੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Kar Ddanddouth Pun Vaddaa Hae ||1|| Rehaao ||
करि डंडउत पुनु वडा हे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Bow down before Him; this is a virtuous action indeed. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਕਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
Saakath Har Ras Saadh N Jaaniaa Thin Anthar Houmai Kanddaa Hae ||
साकत हरि रस सादु न जानिआ तिन अंतरि हउमै कंडा हे ॥
The wicked shaaktas, the faithless cynics, do not know the taste of the Lord's sublime essence. The thorn of egotism is embedded deep within them.
ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਚਲਹਿ ਚੁਭੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਹਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਡੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
Jio Jio Chalehi Chubhai Dhukh Paavehi Jamakaal Sehehi Sir Ddanddaa Hae ||2||
जिउ जिउ चलहि चुभै दुखु पावहि जमकालु सहहि सिरि डंडा हे ॥२॥
The more they walk away, the deeper it sticks into them, and the more they suffer in pain, until finally, the Messenger of Death smashes his club against their heads. ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
Har Jan Har Har Naam Samaanae Dhukh Janam Maran Bhav Khanddaa Hae ||
हरि जन हरि हरि नामि समाणे दुखु जनम मरण भव खंडा हे ॥
The humble servants of the Lord are absorbed in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. The pain of birth and the fear of death are eradicated.
ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਸੋਭ ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
Abinaasee Purakh Paaeiaa Paramaesar Bahu Sobh Khandd Brehamanddaa Hae ||3||
अबिनासी पुरखु पाइआ परमेसरु बहु सोभ खंड ब्रहमंडा हे ॥३॥
They have obtained the Imperishable Supreme Being, the Transcendent Lord God, and they obtain great honor throughout all the worlds and realms. ||3||
ਹਮ ਗਰੀਬ ਮਸਕੀਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਵਡ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
Ham Gareeb Masakeen Prabh Thaerae Har Raakh Raakh Vadd Vaddaa Hae ||
हम गरीब मसकीन प्रभ तेरे हरि राखु राखु वड वडा हे ॥
I am poor and meek, God, but I am Yours! Save me, please save me, O Greatest of the Great!
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥੮॥੨੨॥੬੦॥

इसु गड़ महि हरि राम राइ है किछु सादु न पावै धीठा ॥
Within this body-fortress is the Lord, the Sovereign Lord King, but the stubborn ones do not find the taste.
ਹਰਿ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਚਖਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੧॥
Har Dheen Dhaeiaal Anugrahu Keeaa Har Gur Sabadhee Chakh Ddeethaa ||1||
हरि दीन दइआलि अनुग्रहु कीआ हरि गुर सबदी चखि डीठा ॥१॥
When the Lord, Merciful to the meek, showed His Mercy, I found and tasted it, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਲਾਗਿ ਬਸੀਠਾ ॥
Har Agam Agochar Paarabreham Hai Mil Sathigur Laag Baseethaa ||
हरि अगमु अगोचरु पारब्रहमु है मिलि सतिगुर लागि बसीठा ॥
The Lord, the Supreme Lord God, is Inaccessible and Unfathomable. Those who are committed to the True Guru, the Divine Intermediary, meet the Lord.
ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਖਾਨੇ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਤਿਨ ਆਗੈ ਆਣਿ ਪਰੀਠਾ ॥੨॥

जिन गुर बचन सुखाने हीअरै तिन आगै आणि परीठा ॥२॥
Those whose hearts are pleased with the Guru's Teachings - the Lord's Presence is revealed to them. ||2||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹੀਅਰਾ ਅਤਿ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਰੀਠਾ ॥
Manamukh Heearaa Ath Kathor Hai Thin Anthar Kaar Kareethaa ||
मनमुख हीअरा अति कठोरु है तिन अंतरि कार करीठा ॥
The hearts of the self-willed manmukhs are hard and cruel; their inner beings are dark.
ਬਿਸੀਅਰ ਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਦੂਧੁ ਪੀਆਈਐ ਬਿਖੁ ਨਿਕਸੈ ਫੋਲਿ ਫੁਲੀਠਾ ॥੩॥
Biseear Ko Bahu Dhoodhh Peeaaeeai Bikh Nikasai Fol Fuleethaa ||3||
बिसीअर कउ बहु दूधु पीआईऐ बिखु निकसै फोलि फुलीठा ॥३॥
Even if the poisonous snake is fed large amounts of milk, it will still yield only poison. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਨਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਘਸਿ ਗਰੁੜੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਲੀਠਾ ॥
Har Prabh Aan Milaavahu Gur Saadhhoo Ghas Garurr Sabadh Mukh Leethaa ||
हरि प्रभ आनि मिलावहु गुरु साधू घसि गरुड़ु सबदु मुखि लीठा ॥
O Lord God, please unite me with the Holy Guru, so that I might joyfully grind and eat the Shabad.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਲਾਲੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਲਗਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰੂਆ ਮੀਠਾ ॥੪॥੯॥੨੩॥੬੧॥

जन नानक गुर के लाले गोले लगि संगति करूआ मीठा ॥४॥९॥२३॥६१॥
Servant Nanak is the slave of the Guru; in the Sangat, the Holy Congregation, the bitter becomes sweet. ||4||9||23||61||

For the sake of the Lord, Har, Har, I have sold my body to the Perfect Guru.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਾਤੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗ ਸਭਾਗੇ ॥੧॥
Sathigur Dhaathai Naam Dhirraaeiaa Mukh Masathak Bhaag Sabhaagae ||1||
सतिगुर दातै नामु दिड़ाइआ मुखि मसतकि भाग सभागे ॥१॥
The True Guru, the Giver, has implanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me. A very blessed and fortunate destiny is recorded upon my forehead. ||1||
