ਗੋਤਮੁ ਤਪਾ ਅਹਿਲਿਆ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੁ ਲੁਭਾਇਆ ॥
Gotham Thapaa Ahiliaa Eisathree This Dhaekh Eindhra Lubhaaeiaa ||
गोतमु तपा अहिलिआ इसत्री तिसु देखि इंद्रु लुभाइआ ॥
Ahalyaa was the wife of Gautam the seer. Seeing her, Indra was enticed.
ਸਹਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਚਿਹਨ ਭਗ ਹੂਏ ਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਪਛੋਤਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
Sehas Sareer Chihan Bhag Hooeae Thaa Man Pashhothaaeiaa ||1||
सहस सरीर चिहन भग हूए ता मनि पछोताइआ ॥१॥
When he received a thousand marks of disgrace on his body, then he felt regret in his mind. ||1||
ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣਿ ਨ ਭੂਲੈ ਭਾਈ ॥
Koee Jaan N Bhoolai Bhaaee ||
कोई जाणि न भूलै भाई ॥
O Siblings of Destiny, no one knowingly makes mistakes.
ਸੋ ਭੂਲੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੈ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
So Bhoolai Jis Aap Bhulaaeae Boojhai Jisai Bujhaaee ||1|| Rehaao ||
सो भूलै जिसु आपि भुलाए बूझै जिसै बुझाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
He alone is mistaken, whom the Lord Himself makes so. He alone understands, whom the Lord causes to understand. ||1||Pause||
ਤਿਨਿ ਹਰੀ ਚੰਦਿ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਜੈ ਕਾਗਦਿ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
Thin Haree Chandh Prithhamee Path Raajai Kaagadh Keem N Paaee ||
तिनि हरी चंदि प्रिथमी पति राजै कागदि कीम न पाई ॥
Harichand, the king and ruler of his land, did not appreciate the value of his pre-ordained destiny.
ਅਉਗਣੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਤ ਪੁੰਨ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਉ ਕਿਉ ਨੇਖਾਸਿ ਬਿਕਾਈ ॥੨॥
Aougan Jaanai Th Punn Karae Kio Kio Naekhaas Bikaaee ||2||
अउगणु जाणै त पुंन करे किउ किउ नेखासि बिकाई ॥२॥
If he had known that it was a mistake, he would not have made such a show of giving in charity, and he would not have been sold in the market. ||2||
ਕਰਉ ਅਢਾਈ ਧਰਤੀ ਮਾਂਗੀ ਬਾਵਨ ਰੂਪਿ ਬਹਾਨੈ ॥
Karo Adtaaee Dhharathee Maangee Baavan Roop Behaanai ||
करउ अढाई धरती मांगी बावन रूपि बहानै ॥
The Lord took the form of a dwarf, and asked for some land.
ਕਿਉ ਪਇਆਲਿ ਜਾਇ ਕਿਉ ਛਲੀਐ ਜੇ ਬਲਿ ਰੂਪੁ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥੩॥
Kio Paeiaal Jaae Kio Shhaleeai Jae Bal Roop Pashhaanai ||3||
किउ पइआलि जाइ किउ छलीऐ जे बलि रूपु पछानै ॥३॥
If Bal the king has recognized Him, he would not have been deceived, and sent to the underworld. ||3||
ਰਾਜਾ ਜਨਮੇਜਾ ਦੇ ਮਤੀ ਬਰਜਿ ਬਿਆਸਿ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਇਆ ॥
Raajaa Janamaejaa Dhae Mathanaee Baraj Biaas Parrhaaeiaa ||
राजा जनमेजा दे मतीं बरजि बिआसि पड़्हाइआ ॥
Vyaas taught and warned the king Janmayjaa not to do three things.
ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਗ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਘਾਏ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
Thinih Kar Jag Athaareh Ghaaeae Kirath N Chalai Chalaaeiaa ||4||
तिन्हि करि जग अठारह घाए किरतु न चलै चलाइआ ॥४॥
But he performed the sacred feast and killed eighteen Brahmins; the record of one's past deeds cannot be erased. ||4||
ਗਣਤ ਨ ਗਣੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਾ ਬੋਲੀ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥
Ganath N Gananaee Hukam Pashhaanaa Bolee Bhaae Subhaaee ||
गणत न गणीं हुकमु पछाणा बोली भाइ सुभाई ॥
I do not try to calculate the account; I accept the Hukam of God's Command. I speak with intuitive love and respect.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਤੁਧੈ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੫॥
Jo Kishh Varathai Thudhhai Salaahanaee Sabh Thaeree Vaddiaaee ||5||
जो किछु वरतै तुधै सलाहीं सभ तेरी वडिआई ॥५॥
No matter what happens, I will praise the Lord. It is all Your Glorious Greatness, O Lord. ||5||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਲੇਪੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
Guramukh Alipath Laep Kadhae N Laagai Sadhaa Rehai Saranaaee ||
गुरमुखि अलिपतु लेपु कदे न लागै सदा रहै सरणाई ॥
The Gurmukh remains detached; filth never attaches itself to him. He remains forever in God's Sanctuary.
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਆਗੈ ਚੇਤੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਈ ॥੬॥
Manamukh Mugadhh Aagai Chaethai Naahee Dhukh Laagai Pashhuthaaee ||6||
मनमुखु मुगधु आगै चेतै नाही दुखि लागै पछुताई ॥६॥
The foolish self-willed manmukh does not think of the future; he is overtaken by pain, and then he regrets. ||6||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਏਹ ਰਚਨਾ ਰਚੀਐ ॥
Aapae Karae Karaaeae Karathaa Jin Eaeh Rachanaa Racheeai ||
आपे करे कराए करता जिनि एह रचना रचीऐ ॥
The Creator who created this creation acts, and causes all to act.
ਹਰਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਜੀਅਹੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੇ ਪੈ ਪਚੀਐ ॥੭॥
Har Abhimaan N Jaaee Jeeahu Abhimaanae Pai Pacheeai ||7||
हरि अभिमानु न जाई जीअहु अभिमाने पै पचीऐ ॥७॥
O Lord, egotistical pride does not depart from the soul. Falling into egotistical pride, one is ruined. ||7||
ਭੁਲਣ ਵਿਚਿ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਨ ਭੁਲੈ ॥
Bhulan Vich Keeaa Sabh Koee Karathaa Aap N Bhulai ||
भुलण विचि कीआ सभु कोई करता आपि न भुलै ॥
Everyone makes mistakes; only the Creator does not make mistakes.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ਕੋ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਅਘੁਲੈ ॥੮॥੪॥
Naanak Sach Naam Nisathaaraa Ko Gur Parasaadh Aghulai ||8||4||
नानक सचि नामि निसतारा को गुर परसादि अघुलै ॥८॥४॥
O Nanak, salvation comes through the True Name. By Guru's Grace, one is released. ||8||4||

Prabhaatee, First Mehl:
ਆਖਣਾ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
Aakhanaa Sunanaa Naam Adhhaar ||
आखणा सुनणा नामु अधारु ॥
To chant and listen to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is my Support.
ਧੰਧਾ ਛੁਟਕਿ ਗਇਆ ਵੇਕਾਰੁ ॥
Dhhandhhaa Shhuttak Gaeiaa Vaekaar ||
धंधा छुटकि गइआ वेकारु ॥
Worthless entanglements are ended and gone.
ਜਿਉ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥
Jio Manamukh Dhoojai Path Khoee ||
जिउ मनमुखि दूजै पति खोई ॥
The self-willed manmukh, caught in duality, loses his honor.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥
Bin Naavai Mai Avar N Koee ||1||
बिनु नावै मै अवरु न कोई ॥१॥
Except for the Name, I have no other at all. ||1||
ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਅੰਧੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਗਵਾਰ ॥
Sun Man Andhhae Moorakh Gavaar ||
सुणि मन अंधे मूरख गवार ॥
Listen, O blind, foolish, idiotic mind.
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਲਾਜ ਨਹੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬੂਡੈ ਬਾਰੋ ਬਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Aavath Jaath Laaj Nehee Laagai Bin Gur Booddai Baaro Baar ||1|| Rehaao ||
आवत जात लाज नही लागै बिनु गुर बूडै बारो बार ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Aren't you ashamed of your comings and goings in reincarnation? Without the Guru, you shall drown, over and over again. ||1||Pause||
ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ ॥
Eis Man Maaeiaa Mohi Binaas ||
इसु मन माइआ मोहि बिनासु ॥
This mind is ruined by its attachment to Maya.
ਧੁਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਾਸੁ ॥
Dhhur Hukam Likhiaa Thaan Keheeai Kaas ||
धुरि हुकमु लिखिआ तां कहीऐ कासु ॥
The Command of the Primal Lord is pre-ordained. Before whom should I cry?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
Guramukh Viralaa Cheenhai Koee ||
गुरमुखि विरला चीन्है कोई ॥
Only a few, as Gurmukh, understand this.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਨਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥
Naam Bihoonaa Mukath N Hoee ||2||
नाम बिहूना मुकति न होई ॥२॥
Without the Naam, no one is liberated. ||2||
ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਡੋਲੈ ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀ ॥
Bhram Bhram Ddolai Lakh Chouraasee ||
भ्रमि भ्रमि डोलै लख चउरासी ॥
People wander lost, staggering and stumbling through 8.4 million incarnations.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬੂਝੇ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ॥
Bin Gur Boojhae Jam Kee Faasee ||
बिनु गुर बूझे जम की फासी ॥
Without knowing the Guru, they cannot escape the noose of Death.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਊਭਿ ਪਇਆਲਿ ॥
Eihu Manooaa Khin Khin Oobh Paeiaal ||
इहु मनूआ खिनु खिनु ऊभि पइआलि ॥
This mind, from one moment to the next, goes from the heavens to the underworld.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਛੂਟੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿ ॥੩॥
Guramukh Shhoottai Naam Samhaal ||3||
गुरमुखि छूटै नामु सम्हालि ॥३॥
The Gurmukh contemplates the Naam, and is released. ||3||
ਆਪੇ ਸਦੇ ਢਿਲ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
Aapae Sadhae Dtil N Hoe ||
आपे सदे ढिल न होइ ॥
When God sends His Summons, there is no time to delay.
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸਹਿਲਾ ਜੀਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
Sabadh Marai Sehilaa Jeevai Soe ||
सबदि मरै सहिला जीवै सोइ ॥
When one dies in the Word of the Shabad, he lives in peace.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੋਝੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
Bin Gur Sojhee Kisai N Hoe ||
बिनु गुर सोझी किसै न होइ ॥
Without the Guru, no one understands.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੈ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥
Aapae Karai Karaavai Soe ||4||
आपे करै करावै सोइ ॥४॥
The Lord Himself acts, and inspires all to act. ||4||
ਝਗੜੁ ਚੁਕਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
Jhagarr Chukaavai Har Gun Gaavai ||
झगड़ु चुकावै हरि गुण गावै ॥
Inner conflict comes to an end, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
Pooraa Sathigur Sehaj Samaavai ||
पूरा सतिगुरु सहजि समावै ॥
Through the Perfect True Guru, one is intuitively absorbed into the Lord.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਡੋਲਤ ਤਉ ਠਹਰਾਵੈ ॥
Eihu Man Ddolath Tho Theharaavai ||
इहु मनु डोलत तउ ठहरावै ॥
This wobbling, unsteady mind is stabilized,
ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥੫॥
Sach Karanee Kar Kaar Kamaavai ||5||
सचु करणी करि कार कमावै ॥५॥
And one lives the lifestyle of true actions. ||5||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੂਠਾ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਚਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
Anthar Joothaa Kio Such Hoe ||
अंतरि जूठा किउ सुचि होइ ॥
If someone is false within his own self, then how can he be pure?
ਸਬਦੀ ਧੋਵੈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋਇ ॥
Sabadhee Dhhovai Viralaa Koe ||
सबदी धोवै विरला कोइ ॥
How rare are those who wash with the Shabad.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੋਈ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
Guramukh Koee Sach Kamaavai ||
गुरमुखि कोई सचु कमावै ॥
How rare are those who, as Gurmukh, live the Truth.
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਵੈ ॥੬॥
Aavan Jaanaa Thaak Rehaavai ||6||
आवणु जाणा ठाकि रहावै ॥६॥
Their comings and goings in reincarnation are over and done. ||6||
