Bhai Attaveean Mehaa Nagar Baasan Dhharam Lakhyan Prabh Maeiaa ||
भै अटवीअं महा नगर बासं धरम लख्यण प्रभ मइआ ॥
The dreadful woods become a well-populated city; such are the merits of the righteous life of Dharma, given by God's Grace.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਮਣੰ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਯਾਲ ਚਰਣੰ ॥੪੪॥
Saadhh Sangam Raam Raam Ramanan Saran Naanak Har Har Dhayaal Charanan ||44||
साध संगम राम राम रमणं सरणि नानक हरि हरि दयाल चरणं ॥४४॥
Chanting the Lord's Name in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, the Lotus Feet of the Merciful Lord are found. ||44||
ਹੇ ਅਜਿਤ ਸੂਰ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮੰ ਅਤਿ ਬਲਨਾ ਬਹੁ ਮਰਦਨਹ ॥
Hae Ajith Soor Sangraaman Ath Balanaa Bahu Maradhaneh ||
हे अजित सूर संग्रामं अति बलना बहु मरदनह ॥
O emotional attachment, you are the invincible warrior of the battlefield of life; you totally crush and destroy even the most powerful.
ਗਣ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਦੇਵ ਮਾਨੁਖ੍ਯ੍ਯੰ ਪਸੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਬਿਮੋਹਨਹ ॥
Gan Gandhharab Dhaev Maanukhyan Pas Pankhee Bimohaneh ||
गण गंधरब देव मानुख्यं पसु पंखी बिमोहनह ॥
You entice and fascinate even the heavenly heralds, celestial singers, gods, mortals, beasts and birds.
ਹਰਿ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੰ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਗਦੀਸ੍ਵਰਹ ॥੪੫॥
Har Karanehaaran Namasakaaran Saran Naanak Jagadheesvareh ||45||
हरि करणहारं नमसकारं सरणि नानक जगदीस्वरह ॥४५॥
Nanak bows in humble surrender to the Lord; he seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord of the Universe. ||45||
ਹੇ ਕਾਮੰ ਨਰਕ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੰ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਵਣਹ ॥
Hae Kaaman Narak Bisraaman Bahu Jonee Bhramaavaneh ||
हे कामं नरक बिस्रामं बहु जोनी भ्रमावणह ॥
O sexual desire, you lead the mortals to hell; you make them wander in reincarnation through countless species.
ਚਿਤ ਹਰਣੰ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਲੋਕ ਗੰਮ੍ਯ੍ਯੰ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੀਲ ਬਿਦਾਰਣਹ ॥
Chith Haranan Thrai Lok Ganmyan Jap Thap Seel Bidhaaraneh ||
चित हरणं त्रै लोक गम्यं जप तप सील बिदारणह ॥
You cheat the consciousness, and pervade the three worlds. You destroy meditation, penance and virtue.
ਅਲਪ ਸੁਖ ਅਵਿਤ ਚੰਚਲ ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਸਮਾਵਣਹ ॥
Alap Sukh Avith Chanchal Ooch Neech Samaavaneh ||
अलप सुख अवित चंचल ऊच नीच समावणह ॥
But you give only shallow pleasure, while you make the mortals weak and unsteady; you pervade the high and the low.
ਤਵ ਭੈ ਬਿਮੁੰਚਿਤ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਮ ਓਟ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਰਾਇਣਹ ॥੪੬॥
Thav Bhai Bimunchith Saadhh Sangam Outt Naanak Naaraaeineh ||46||
तव भै बिमुंचित साध संगम ओट नानक नाराइणह ॥४६॥
Your fear is dispelled in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, through the Protection and Support of the Lord. ||46||
ਹੇ ਕਲਿ ਮੂਲ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੰ ਕਦੰਚ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਨ ਉਪਰਜਤੇ ॥
Hae Kal Mool Krodhhan Kadhanch Karunaa N Ouparajathae ||
हे कलि मूल क्रोधं कदंच करुणा न उपरजते ॥
O anger, you are the root of conflict; compassion never rises up in you.
ਬਿਖਯੰਤ ਜੀਵੰ ਵਸ੍ਯ੍ਯੰ ਕਰੋਤਿ ਨਿਰਤ੍ਯ੍ਯੰ ਕਰੋਤਿ ਜਥਾ ਮਰਕਟਹ ॥
Bikhayanth Jeevan Vasyan Karoth Nirathyan Karoth Jathhaa Marakatteh ||
बिखयंत जीवं वस्यं करोति निरत्यं करोति जथा मरकटह ॥
You take the corrupt, sinful beings in your power, and make them dance like monkeys.
ਅਨਿਕ ਸਾਸਨ ਤਾੜੰਤਿ ਜਮਦੂਤਹ ਤਵ ਸੰਗੇ ਅਧਮੰ ਨਰਹ ॥
Anik Saasan Thaarranth Jamadhootheh Thav Sangae Adhhaman Nareh ||
अनिक सासन ताड़ंति जमदूतह तव संगे अधमं नरह ॥
Associating with you, mortals are debased and punished by the Messenger of Death in so many ways.
ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਦਯਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਅ ਰਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਾ ਕਰੋਤਿ ॥੪੭॥
Dheen Dhukh Bhanjan Dhayaal Prabh Naanak Sarab Jeea Rakhyaa Karoth ||47||
दीन दुख भंजन दयाल प्रभु नानक सरब जीअ रख्या करोति ॥४७॥
O Destroyer of the pains of the poor, O Merciful God, Nanak prays for You to protect all begins from such anger. ||47||
ਹੇ ਲੋਭਾ ਲੰਪਟ ਸੰਗ ਸਿਰਮੋਰਹ ਅਨਿਕ ਲਹਰੀ ਕਲੋਲਤੇ ॥
Hae Lobhaa Lanpatt Sang Siramoreh Anik Leharee Kalolathae ||
हे लोभा ल्मपट संग सिरमोरह अनिक लहरी कलोलते ॥
O greed, you cling to even the great, assaulting them with countless waves.
ਧਾਵੰਤ ਜੀਆ ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰੰ ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਡੋਲਤੇ ॥
Dhhaavanth Jeeaa Bahu Prakaaran Anik Bhaanth Bahu Ddolathae ||
धावंत जीआ बहु प्रकारं अनिक भांति बहु डोलते ॥
You cause them to run around wildly in all directions, wobbling and wavering unsteadily.
ਨਚ ਮਿਤ੍ਰੰ ਨਚ ਇਸਟੰ ਨਚ ਬਾਧਵ ਨਚ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਤਵ ਲਜਯਾ ॥
Nach Mithran Nach Eisattan Nach Baadhhav Nach Maath Pithaa Thav Lajayaa ||
नच मित्रं नच इसटं नच बाधव नच मात पिता तव लजया ॥
You have no respect for friends, ideals, relations, mother or father.
ਅਕਰਣੰ ਕਰੋਤਿ ਅਖਾਦ੍ਯ੍ਯਿ ਖਾਦ੍ਯ੍ਯੰ ਅਸਾਜ੍ਯ੍ਯੰ ਸਾਜਿ ਸਮਜਯਾ ॥
Akaranan Karoth Akhaadhiy Khaadhyan Asaajyan Saaj Samajayaa ||
अकरणं करोति अखाद्यि खाद्यं असाज्यं साजि समजया ॥
You make them do what they should not do. You make them eat what they should not eat. You make them accomplish what they should not accomplish.
ਤ੍ਰਾਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਾਹਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬਿਗ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਪ੍ਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਰਹਰਹ ॥੪੮॥
Thraahi Thraahi Saran Suaamee Bigyaapio Naanak Har Narehareh ||48||
त्राहि त्राहि सरणि सुआमी बिग्याप्ति नानक हरि नरहरह ॥४८॥
Save me, save me - I have come to Your Sanctuary, O my Lord and Master; Nanak prays to the Lord. ||48||
ਹੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਮੂਲੰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੰ ਪਾਪਾਤਮਾ ॥
Hae Janam Maran Moolan Ahankaaran Paapaathamaa ||
हे जनम मरण मूलं अहंकारं पापातमा ॥
O egotism, you are the root of birth and death and the cycle of reincarnation; you are the very soul of sin.
ਮਿਤ੍ਰੰ ਤਜੰਤਿ ਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੰਤਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਮਾਯਾ ਬਿਸ੍ਤੀਰਨਹ ॥
Mithran Thajanth Sathran Dhrirranth Anik Maayaa Bistheeraneh ||
मित्रं तजंति सत्रं द्रिड़ंति अनिक माया बिस्तीरनह ॥
You forsake friends, and hold tight to enemies. You spread out countless illusions of Maya.
ਆਵੰਤ ਜਾਵੰਤ ਥਕੰਤ ਜੀਆ ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਬਹੁ ਭੋਗਣਹ ॥
Aavanth Jaavanth Thhakanth Jeeaa Dhukh Sukh Bahu Bhoganeh ||
आवंत जावंत थकंत जीआ दुख सुख बहु भोगणह ॥
You cause the living beings to come and go until they are exhausted. You lead them to experience pain and pleasure.
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭਯਾਨ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਰਮਣੰ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਕਟ ਅਸਾਧ ਰੋਗਣਹ ॥
Bhram Bhayaan Oudhiaan Ramanan Mehaa Bikatt Asaadhh Roganeh ||
भ्रम भयान उदिआन रमणं महा बिकट असाध रोगणह ॥
You lead them to wander lost in the terrible wilderness of doubt; you lead them to contract the most horrible, incurable diseases.
ਬੈਦ੍ਯ੍ਯੰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਆਰਾਧਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ॥੪੯॥
Baidhyan Paarabreham Paramaesvar Aaraadhh Naanak Har Har Harae ||49||
बैद्यं पारब्रहम परमेस्वर आराधि नानक हरि हरि हरे ॥४९॥
The only Physician is the Supreme Lord, the Transcendent Lord God. Nanak worships and adores the Lord, Har, Har, Haray. ||49||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਨਾਥ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਹ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਜਗਦ ਗੁਰੋ ॥
Hae Praan Naathh Gobindheh Kirapaa Nidhhaan Jagadh Guro ||
हे प्राण नाथ गोबिंदह क्रिपा निधान जगद गुरो ॥
O Lord of the Universe, Master of the Breath of life, Treasure of Mercy, Guru of the World.
ਹੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤਾਪ ਹਰਣਹ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮੈ ਸਭ ਦੁਖ ਹਰੋ ॥
Hae Sansaar Thaap Haraneh Karunaa Mai Sabh Dhukh Haro ||
हे संसार ताप हरणह करुणा मै सभ दुख हरो ॥
O Destroyer of the fever of the world, Embodiment of Compassion, please take away all my pain.
ਹੇ ਸਰਣਿ ਜੋਗ ਦਯਾਲਹ ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਮਯਾ ਕਰੋ ॥
Hae Saran Jog Dhayaaleh Dheenaa Naathh Mayaa Karo ||
हे सरणि जोग दयालह दीना नाथ मया करो ॥
O Merciful Lord, Potent to give Sanctuary, Master of the meek and humble, please be kind to me.
ਸਰੀਰ ਸ੍ਵਸਥ ਖੀਣ ਸਮਏ ਸਿਮਰੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਦਾਮੋਦਰ ਮਾਧਵਹ ॥੫੦॥
Sareer Svasathh Kheen Sameae Simaranth Naanak Raam Dhaamodhar Maadhhaveh ||50||
सरीर स्वसथ खीण समए सिमरंति नानक राम दामोदर माधवह ॥५०॥
Whether his body is healthy or sick, let Nanak meditate in remembrance on You, Lord. ||50||
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਣੰ ਰਮਣੰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਕੀਰਤਨਹ ॥
Charan Kamal Saranan Ramanan Gopaal Keerathaneh ||
चरण कमल सरणं रमणं गोपाल कीरतनह ॥
I have come to the Sanctuary of the Lord's Lotus Feet, where I sing the Kirtan of His Praises.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣ ਤਰਣੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਹਾ ਸਾਗਰ ਭੈ ਦੁਤਰਹ ॥੫੧॥

साध संगेण तरणं नानक महा सागर भै दुतरह ॥५१॥
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, Nanak is carried across the utterly terrifying, difficult world-ocean. ||51||
ਸਿਰ ਮਸ੍ਤਕ ਰਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੰ ਹਸ੍ਤ ਕਾਯਾ ਰਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰਹ ॥
Sir Masok Rakhyaa Paarabrehaman Haso Kaayaa Rakhyaa Paramaesvareh ||
सिर मस्तक रख्या पारब्रहमं हस्त काया रख्या परमेस्वरह ॥
The Supreme Lord God has procted my head and forehead; the Transcendent Lord has protected my hands and body.
ਆਤਮ ਰਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਾ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਧਨ ਚਰਣ ਰਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਾ ਜਗਦੀਸ੍ਵਰਹ ॥
Aatham Rakhyaa Gopaal Suaamee Dhhan Charan Rakhyaa Jagadheesvareh ||
आतम रख्या गोपाल सुआमी धन चरण रख्या जगदीस्वरह ॥
God, my Lord and Master, has saved my soul; the Lord of the Universe has saved my wealth and feet.
ਸਰਬ ਰਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਾ ਗੁਰ ਦਯਾਲਹ ਭੈ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸਨਹ ॥
Sarab Rakhyaa Gur Dhayaaleh Bhai Dhookh Binaasaneh ||
सरब रख्या गुर दयालह भै दूख बिनासनह ॥
The Merciful Guru has protected everything, and destroyed my fear and suffering.
ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲ ਅਨਾਥ ਨਾਥੇ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਚੁਤਹ ॥੫੨॥
Bhagath Vashhal Anaathh Naathhae Saran Naanak Purakh Achutheh ||52||
भगति वछल अनाथ नाथे सरणि नानक पुरख अचुतह ॥५२॥
God is the Lover of His devotees, the Master of the masterless. Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Imperishable Primal Lord God. ||52||
ਜੇਨ ਕਲਾ ਧਾਰਿਓ ਆਕਾਸੰ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੰ ਕਾਸਟ ਬੇਸਟੰ ॥
Jaen Kalaa Dhhaariou Aakaasan Baisantharan Kaasatt Baesattan ||
जेन कला धारिओ आकासं बैसंतरं कासट बेसटं ॥
His Power supports the sky, and locks fire within wood.
ਜੇਨ ਕਲਾ ਸਸਿ ਸੂਰ ਨਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਤ੍ਰ ਜੋਤ੍ਯ੍ਯਿੰ ਸਾਸੰ ਸਰੀਰ ਧਾਰਣੰ ॥
Jaen Kalaa Sas Soor Nakhyathr Jothiyan Saasan Sareer Dhhaaranan ||
जेन कला ससि सूर नख्यत्र जोत्यिं सासं सरीर धारणं ॥
His Power supports the moon, the sun and the stars, and infuses light and breath into the body.
