ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਬਉਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਬਉਰਾਇਆ ॥
Dhubidhhaa Bouree Man Bouraaeiaa ||
दुबिधा बउरी मनु बउराइआ ॥
The insanity of duality has driven the mind insane.
ਝੂਠੈ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
Jhoothai Laalach Janam Gavaaeiaa ||
झूठै लालचि जनमु गवाइआ ॥
In false greed, life is wasting away.
ਲਪਟਿ ਰਹੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਬੰਧੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Lapatt Rehee Fun Bandhh N Paaeiaa ||
लपटि रही फुनि बंधु न पाइआ ॥
Duality clings to the mind; it cannot be restrained.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

सतिगुरि राखे नामु द्रिड़ाइआ ॥१॥
The True Guru saves us, implanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord within. ||1||
ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਰੈ ॥
Naa Man Marai N Maaeiaa Marai ||
ना मनु मरै न माइआ मरै ॥
Without subduing the mind, Maya cannot be subdued.
ਜਿਨਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਆ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਭਉ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਮਾਇਆ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
Maaeiaa Saathh N Chalai Piaaree ||
माइआ साथि न चलै पिआरी ॥
But this Maya that they love so much shall not go along with them in the end.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ॥
Maaeiaa Mamathaa Hai Bahu Rangee ||
माइआ ममता है बहु रंगी ॥
There are so many colors and flavors of attachment to Maya.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਸੰਗੀ ॥੨॥
Bin Naavai Ko Saathh N Sangee ||2||
बिनु नावै को साथि न संगी ॥२॥
Except for the Name, no one has any friend or companion. ||2||
ਜਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਪਰ ਮਨੁ ਤੈਸਾ ॥
Jio Man Dhaekhehi Par Man Thaisaa ||
जिउ मनु देखहि पर मनु तैसा ॥
According to one's own mind, one sees the minds of others.
ਜੈਸੀ ਮਨਸਾ ਤੈਸੀ ਦਸਾ ॥
Jaisee Manasaa Thaisee Dhasaa ||
जैसी मनसा तैसी दसा ॥
According to one's desires, one's condition is determined.
ਜੈਸਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਤੈਸੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
Jaisaa Karam Thaisee Liv Laavai ||
जैसा करमु तैसी लिव लावै ॥
According to one's actions, one is focused and tuned in.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਛਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
Sathigur Pooshh Sehaj Ghar Paavai ||3||
सतिगुरु पूछि सहज घरु पावै ॥३॥
Seeking the advice of the True Guru, one finds the home of peace and poise. ||3||
ਰਾਗਿ ਨਾਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
Raag Naadh Man Dhoojai Bhaae ||
रागि नादि मनु दूजै भाइ ॥
In music and song, the mind is caught by the love of duality.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
Anthar Kapatt Mehaa Dhukh Paae ||
अंतरि कपटु महा दुखु पाइ ॥
Filled with deception deep within, one suffers in terrible pain.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
Sathigur Bhaettai Sojhee Paae ||
सतिगुरु भेटै सोझी पाइ ॥
Meeting with the True Guru, one is blessed with clear understanding,
ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੪॥
Sachai Naam Rehai Liv Laae ||4||
सचै नामि रहै लिव लाइ ॥४॥
And remains lovingly attuned to the True Name. ||4||
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
Sachai Sabadh Sach Kamaavai ||
सचै सबदि सचु कमावै ॥
Through the True Word of the Shabad, one practices Truth.
ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
Sachee Baanee Har Gun Gaavai ||
सची बाणी हरि गुण गावै ॥
He sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, through the True Word of His Bani.
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਅਮਰ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Nij Ghar Vaas Amar Padh Paavai ||
निज घरि वासु अमर पदु पावै ॥
He dwells in the home of his own heart deep within, and obtains the immortal status.
ਤਾ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੫॥
Thaa Dhar Saachai Sobhaa Paavai ||5||
ता दरि साचै सोभा पावै ॥५॥
Then, he is blessed with honor in the Court of the True Lord. ||5||
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
Gur Saevaa Bin Bhagath N Hoee ||
गुर सेवा बिनु भगति न होई ॥
Without serving the Guru, there is no devotional worship,
ਅਨੇਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰੈ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ॥
Anaek Jathan Karai Jae Koee ||
अनेक जतन करै जे कोई ॥
Even though one may make all sorts of efforts.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਖੋਈ ॥
Houmai Maeraa Sabadhae Khoee ||
हउमै मेरा सबदे खोई ॥
If one eradicates egotism and selfishness through the Shabad,
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੬॥
Niramal Naam Vasai Man Soee ||6||
निरमल नामु वसै मनि सोई ॥६॥
The Immaculate Naam comes to abide in the mind. ||6||
ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
Eis Jag Mehi Sabadh Karanee Hai Saar ||
इसु जग महि सबदु करणी है सारु ॥
In this world, the practice of the Shabad is the most excellent occupation.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
Bin Sabadhai Hor Mohu Gubaar ||
बिनु सबदै होरु मोहु गुबारु ॥
Without the Shabad, everything else is the darkness of emotional attachment.
ਸਬਦੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
Sabadhae Naam Rakhai Our Dhhaar ||
सबदे नामु रखै उरि धारि ॥
Through the Shabad, the Naam is enshrined within the heart.
ਸਬਦੇ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੭॥
Sabadhae Gath Math Mokh Dhuaar ||7||
सबदे गति मति मोख दुआरु ॥७॥
Through the Shabad, one obtains clear understanding and the door of salvation. ||7||
ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਣਹਾਰੋ ॥
Avar Naahee Kar Dhaekhanehaaro ||
अवरु नाही करि देखणहारो ॥
There is no other Creator except the All-seeing Lord God.
ਸਾਚਾ ਆਪਿ ਅਨੂਪੁ ਅਪਾਰੋ ॥
Saachaa Aap Anoop Apaaro ||
साचा आपि अनूपु अपारो ॥
The True Lord Himself is Infinite and Incomparably Beautiful.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਊਤਮ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
Raam Naam Ootham Gath Hoee ||
राम नाम ऊतम गति होई ॥
Through the Lord's Name, one obtains the most sublime and exalted state.
ਨਾਨਕ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਈ ॥੮॥੧॥
Naanak Khoj Lehai Jan Koee ||8||1||
नानक खोजि लहै जनु कोई ॥८॥१॥
O Nanak, how rare are those humble beings, who seek and find the Lord. ||8||1||

Prabhaatee, First Mehl:
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਗਲ ਜਗੁ ਛਾਇਆ ॥
Maaeiaa Mohi Sagal Jag Shhaaeiaa ||
माइआ मोहि सगल जगु छाइआ ॥
Emotional attachment to Maya is spread out all over the world.
ਕਾਮਣਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਕਾਮਿ ਲੋਭਾਇਆ ॥
Kaaman Dhaekh Kaam Lobhaaeiaa ||
कामणि देखि कामि लोभाइआ ॥
Seeing a beautiful woman, the man is overcome with sexual desire.
ਸੁਤ ਕੰਚਨ ਸਿਉ ਹੇਤੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥
Suth Kanchan Sio Haeth Vadhhaaeiaa ||
सुत कंचन सिउ हेतु वधाइआ ॥
His love for his children and gold steadily increases.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਇਕੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
Sabh Kishh Apanaa Eik Raam Paraaeiaa ||1||
सभु किछु अपना इकु रामु पराइआ ॥१॥
He sees everything as his own, but he does not own the One Lord. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਜਾਪੁ ਜਪਉ ਜਪਮਾਲੀ ॥
Aisaa Jaap Japo Japamaalee ||
ऐसा जापु जपउ जपमाली ॥
I meditate as I chant on such a mala,
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Dhukh Sukh Parehar Bhagath Niraalee ||1|| Rehaao ||
दुख सुख परहरि भगति निराली ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
That I rise above pleasure and pain; I attain the most wondrous devotional worship of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Gun Nidhhaan Thaeraa Anth N Paaeiaa ||
गुण निधान तेरा अंतु न पाइआ ॥
O Treasure of Virtue, Your limits cannot be found.
ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਤੁਝ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
Saach Sabadh Thujh Maahi Samaaeiaa ||
साच सबदि तुझ माहि समाइआ ॥
Through the True Word of the Shabad, I am absorbed into You.
ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਿ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥
Aavaa Goun Thudhh Aap Rachaaeiaa ||
आवा गउणु तुधु आपि रचाइआ ॥
You Yourself created the comings and goings of reincarnation.
ਸੇਈ ਭਗਤ ਜਿਨ ਸਚਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

सेई भगत जिन सचि चितु लाइआ ॥२॥
They alone are devotees, who focus their consciousness on You. ||2||
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਨਰਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥

गिआनु धिआनु नरहरि निरबाणी ॥
Spiritual wisdom and meditation on the Lord, the Lord of Nirvaanaa
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥

आनद रूप विटहु कुरबाणी ॥३॥
I am a sacrifice to the Embodiment of Bliss. ||3||

भाउ भगति गुरमती पाए ॥

हउमै विचहु सबदि जलाए ॥
