हउ जीउ करी तिस विटउ चउ खंनीऐ जो मै पिरी दिखावए ॥
I would cut my living body into four pieces for anyone who shows me my Beloved.

नानक हरि होइ दइआलु तां गुरु पूरा मेलावए ॥५॥

अंतरि जोरु हउमै तनि माइआ कूड़ी आवै जाइ ॥
The power of egotism prevails within, and the body is controlled by Maya; the false ones come and go in reincarnation.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ਮੰਨਿ ਨ ਸਕੀ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
Sathigur Kaa Furamaaeiaa Mann N Sakee Dhuthar Thariaa N Jaae ||
सतिगुर का फुरमाइआ मंनि न सकी दुतरु तरिआ न जाइ ॥
If someone does not obey the Command of the True Guru, he cannot cross over the treacherous world-ocean.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੋ ਚਲੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥
Nadhar Karae Jis Aapanee So Chalai Sathigur Bhaae ||
नदरि करे जिसु आपणी सो चलै सतिगुर भाइ ॥
Whoever is blessed with the Lord's Glance of Grace, walks in harmony with the Will of the True Guru.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਛੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇ ॥

सतिगुर का दरसनु सफलु है जो इछै सो फलु पाइ ॥
The Blessed Vision of the True Guru's Darshan is fruitful; through it, one obtains the fruits of his desires.
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੰਨਿਆਂ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥

जिनी सतिगुरु मंनिआं हउ तिन के लागउ पाइ ॥
I touch the feet of those who believe in and obey the True Guru.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਜਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੬॥

नानकु ता का दासु है जि अनदिनु रहै लिव लाइ ॥६॥
Nanak is the slave of those who, night and day, remain lovingly attuned to the Lord. ||6||
ਜਿਨਾ ਪਿਰੀ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਿਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਐ ॥

जिना पिरी पिआरु बिनु दरसन किउ त्रिपतीऐ ॥
Those who are in love with their Beloved - how can they find satisfaction without His Darshan?
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਹਸੀਐ ॥੭॥
Naanak Milae Subhaae Guramukh Eihu Man Rehaseeai ||7||
नानक मिले सुभाइ गुरमुखि इहु मनु रहसीऐ ॥७॥
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs meet Him with ease, and this mind blossoms forth in joy. ||7||
ਜਿਨਾ ਪਿਰੀ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵਨਿ ਪਿਰ ਬਾਹਰੇ ॥
Jinaa Piree Piaar Kio Jeevan Pir Baaharae ||
जिना पिरी पिआरु किउ जीवनि पिर बाहरे ॥
Those who are in love with their Beloved - how can they live without Him?
ਜਾਂ ਸਹੁ ਦੇਖਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਥੀਵਨਿ ਭੀ ਹਰੇ ॥੮॥
Jaan Sahu Dhaekhan Aapanaa Naanak Thheevan Bhee Harae ||8||
जां सहु देखनि आपणा नानक थीवनि भी हरे ॥८॥
When they see their Husband Lord, O Nanak, they are rejuvenated. ||8||
ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨੇਹੁ ਤੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਚੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

जिना गुरमुखि अंदरि नेहु तै प्रीतम सचै लाइआ ॥

ਰਾਤੀ ਅਤੈ ਡੇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੯॥
Raathee Athai Ddaehu Naanak Praem Samaaeiaa ||9||
राती अतै डेहु नानक प्रेमि समाइआ ॥९॥
O Nanak, remain immersed in the Lord's Love, night and day. ||9||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੀ ਆਸਕੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Guramukh Sachee Aasakee Jith Preetham Sachaa Paaeeai ||
गुरमुखि सची आसकी जितु प्रीतमु सचा पाईऐ ॥
The love of the Gurmukh is true; through it, the True Beloved is attained.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਹਹਿ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥੧੦॥

अनदिनु रहहि अनंदि नानक सहजि समाईऐ ॥१०॥
Night and day, remain in bliss, O Nanak, immersed in intuitive peace and poise. ||10||
ਸਚਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Sachaa Praem Piaar Gur Poorae Thae Paaeeai ||
सचा प्रेम पिआरु गुर पूरे ते पाईऐ ॥
True love and affection are obtained from the Perfect Guru.
ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਭੰਗੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੧੧॥
Kabehoo N Hovai Bhang Naanak Har Gun Gaaeeai ||11||
कबहू न होवै भंगु नानक हरि गुण गाईऐ ॥११॥
They never break, O Nanak, if one sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||11||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਪਿਰੀ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ॥
Jinhaa Andhar Sachaa Naehu Kio Jeevanih Piree Vihooniaa ||
जिन्हा अंदरि सचा नेहु किउ जीवन्हि पिरी विहूणिआ ॥
How can those who have true love within them live without their Husband Lord?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ॥੧੨॥
Guramukh Maelae Aap Naanak Chiree Vishhunniaa ||12||
गुरमुखि मेले आपि नानक चिरी विछुंनिआ ॥१२॥
The Lord unites the Gurmukhs with Himself, O Nanak; they were separated from Him for such a long time. ||12||
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਤਉ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਇਆ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਰਿ ॥
Jin Ko Praem Piaar Tho Aapae Laaeiaa Karam Kar ||
जिन कउ प्रेम पिआरु तउ आपे लाइआ करमु करि ॥
You grant Your Grace to those whom You Yourself bless with love and affection.
ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਮੈ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ॥੧੩॥
Naanak Laehu Milaae Mai Jaachik Dheejai Naam Har ||13||
नानक लेहु मिलाइ मै जाचिक दीजै नामु हरि ॥१३॥
O Lord, please let Nanak meet with You; please bless this beggar with Your Name. ||13||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਸੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰੋਵੈ ॥

गुरमुखि हसै गुरमुखि रोवै ॥
The Gurmukh laughs, and the Gurmukh cries.
ਜਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਾਈ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥

जि गुरमुखि करे साई भगति होवै ॥
Whatever the Gurmukh does, is devotional worship.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

गुरमुखि होवै सु करे वीचारु ॥
Whoever becomes Gurmukh contemplates the Lord.

गुरमुखि नानक पावै पारु ॥१४॥

जिना अंदरि नामु निधानु है गुरबाणी वीचारि ॥
Those who have the Naam within, contemplate the Word of the Guru's Bani.
ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਸਦ ਉਜਲੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥
Thin Kae Mukh Sadh Oujalae Thith Sachai Dharabaar ||
तिन के मुख सद उजले तितु सचै दरबारि ॥
Their faces are always radiant in the Court of the True Lord.
ਤਿਨ ਬਹਦਿਆ ਉਠਦਿਆ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਜਿ ਆਪਿ ਬਖਸੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥
Thin Behadhiaa Outhadhiaa Kadhae N Visarai J Aap Bakhasae Karathaar ||
तिन बहदिआ उठदिआ कदे न विसरै जि आपि बखसे करतारि ॥
Sitting down and standing up, they never forget the Creator, who forgives them.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਜਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਿ ॥੧੫॥

नानक गुरमुखि मिले न विछुड़हि जि मेले सिरजणहारि ॥१५॥
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs are united with the Lord. Those united by the Creator Lord, shall never be separated again. ||15||
ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰਾਂ ਕੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਮਹਾਂ ਕਰੜੀ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੁ ॥

गुर पीरां की चाकरी महां करड़ी सुख सारु ॥
To work for the Guru, or a spiritual teacher, is terribly difficult, but it brings the most excellent peace.

सतिगुर की सेवै लगिआ भउजलु तरै संसारु ॥
Joined to the service of the True Guru, the mortal being crosses over the terrifying world-ocean.
ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
Man Chindhiaa Fal Paaeisee Anthar Bibaek Beechaar ||
मन चिंदिआ फलु पाइसी अंतरि बिबेक बीचारु ॥
The fruits of the mind's desires are obtained, with clear contemplation and discriminating understanding within.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਭੁ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧੬॥
Naanak Sathigur Miliai Prabh Paaeeai Sabh Dhookh Nivaaranehaar ||16||
नानक सतिगुरि मिलिऐ प्रभु पाईऐ सभु दूख निवारणहारु ॥१६॥
O Nanak, meeting the True Guru, God is found; He is the Eradicator of all sorrow. ||16||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੋ ਕਰੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
Manamukh Saevaa Jo Karae Dhoojai Bhaae Chith Laae ||
मनमुख सेवा जो करे दूजै भाइ चितु लाइ ॥
The self-willed manmukh may perform service, but his consciousness is attached to the love of duality.
ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇ ॥
Puth Kalath Kuttanb Hai Maaeiaa Mohu Vadhhaae ||
पुतु कलतु कुट्मबु है माइआ मोहु वधाइ ॥
Through Maya, his emotional attachment to children, spouse and relatives increases.
ਦਰਗਹਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਕੋਈ ਅੰਤਿ ਨ ਸਕੀ ਛਡਾਇ ॥
Dharagehi Laekhaa Mangeeai Koee Anth N Sakee Shhaddaae ||
दरगहि लेखा मंगीऐ कोई अंति न सकी छडाइ ॥
He shall be called to account in the Court of the Lord, and in the end, no one will be able to save him.
