Houmai Vich Jaagran N Hovee Har Bhagath N Pavee Thhaae ||
हउमै विचि जाग्रणु न होवई हरि भगति न पवई थाइ ॥
In egotism, one cannot remain awake and aware, and one's devotional worship of the Lord is not accepted.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦਰਿ ਢੋਈ ਨਾ ਲਹਹਿ ਭਾਇ ਦੂਜੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੪॥
Manamukh Dhar Dtoee Naa Lehehi Bhaae Dhoojai Karam Kamaae ||4||
मनमुख दरि ढोई ना लहहि भाइ दूजै करम कमाइ ॥४॥
The self-willed manmukhs find no place in the Court of the Lord; they do their deeds in the love of duality. ||4||
ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਪੈਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਣਾ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
Dhhrig Khaanaa Dhhrig Painhanaa Jinhaa Dhoojai Bhaae Piaar ||
ध्रिगु खाणा ध्रिगु पैन्हणा जिन्हा दूजै भाइ पिआरु ॥
Cursed is the food, and cursed are the clothes, of those who are attached to the love of duality.
ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਰਾਤੇ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਹੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੫॥
Bisattaa Kae Keerrae Bisattaa Raathae Mar Janmehi Hohi Khuaar ||5||
बिसटा के कीड़े बिसटा राते मरि जमहि होहि खुआरु ॥५॥
They are like maggots in manure, sinking into manure. In death and rebirth, they are wasted away to ruin. ||5||
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
Jin Ko Sathigur Bhaettiaa Thinaa Vittahu Bal Jaao ||
जिन कउ सतिगुरु भेटिआ तिना विटहु बलि जाउ ॥
I am a sacrifice to those who meet with the True Guru.
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਾਂ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੬॥
Thin Kee Sangath Mil Rehaan Sachae Sach Samaao ||6||
तिन की संगति मिलि रहां सचे सचि समाउ ॥६॥
I shall continue to associate with them; devoted to Truth, I am absorbed in Truth. ||6||
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਉਪਾਇ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
Poorai Bhaag Gur Paaeeai Oupaae Kithai N Paaeiaa Jaae ||
पूरै भागि गुरु पाईऐ उपाइ कितै न पाइआ जाइ ॥
By perfect destiny, the Guru is found. He cannot be found by any efforts.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਹਜੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥੭॥
Sathigur Thae Sehaj Oopajai Houmai Sabadh Jalaae ||7||
सतिगुर ते सहजु ऊपजै हउमै सबदि जलाइ ॥७॥
Through the True Guru, intuitive wisdom wells up; through the Word of the Shabad, egotism is burnt away. ||7||

हरि सरणाई भजु मन मेरे सभ किछु करणै जोगु ॥
O my mind, hurry to the Sanctuary of the Lord; He is Potent to do everything.

Involved with them, people eat the food of bliss.

I have broken my ties to that deceitful serpent.

गुरि कहिआ इह झूठी धोही ॥
The Guru has told me that it is false and fraudulent.
ਮੁਖਿ ਮੀਠੀ ਖਾਈ ਕਉਰਾਇ ॥

मुखि मीठी खाई कउराइ ॥
Its face is sweet, but it tastes very bitter.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਅਘਾਇ ॥੨॥

अम्रित नामि मनु रहिआ अघाइ ॥२॥
My mind remains satisfied with the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||
ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਸਿਉ ਗਈ ਵਿਖੋਟਿ ॥

लोभ मोह सिउ गई विखोटि ॥
I have broken my ties with greed and emotional attachment.
ਗੁਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਛੋਟਿ ॥

गुरि क्रिपालि मोहि कीनी छोटि ॥
The Merciful Guru has rescued me from them.
ਇਹ ਠਗਵਾਰੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਘਰ ਗਾਲੇ ॥

इह ठगवारी बहुतु घर गाले ॥
These cheating thieves have plundered so many homes.

हम गुरि राखि लीए किरपाले ॥३॥
The Merciful Guru has protected and saved me. ||3||
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਸਿਉ ਠਾਟੁ ਨ ਬਨਿਆ ॥
Kaam Krodhh Sio Thaatt N Baniaa ||
काम क्रोध सिउ ठाटु न बनिआ ॥
I have no dealings whatsoever with sexual desire and anger.
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਕਾਨੀ ਸੁਨਿਆ ॥

गुर उपदेसु मोहि कानी सुनिआ ॥
I listen to the Guru's Teachings.
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਮਹਾ ਚੰਡਾਲ ॥

जह देखउ तह महा चंडाल ॥
Wherever I look, I see the most horrible goblins.
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥੪॥

दस नारी मै करी दुहागनि ॥
I have made widows of the ten sensory organs.
ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਏਹ ਰਸਹਿ ਬਿਖਾਗਨਿ ॥

गुरि कहिआ एह रसहि बिखागनि ॥
The Guru has told me that these pleasures are the fires of corruption.
ਇਨ ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਰਸਾਤਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

इन सनबंधी रसातलि जाइ ॥
Those who associate with them go to hell.

हम गुरि राखे हरि लिव लाइ ॥५॥
The Guru has saved me; I am lovingly attuned to the Lord. ||5||
ਅਹੰਮੇਵ ਸਿਉ ਮਸਲਤਿ ਛੋਡੀ ॥
Ahanmaev Sio Masalath Shhoddee ||
अहमेव सिउ मसलति छोडी ॥
I have forsaken the advice of my ego.
ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਇਹੁ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਹੋਡੀ ॥
Gur Kehiaa Eihu Moorakh Hoddee ||
गुरि कहिआ इहु मूरखु होडी ॥
The Guru has told me that this is foolish stubbornness.
ਇਹੁ ਨੀਘਰੁ ਘਰੁ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
Eihu Neeghar Ghar Kehee N Paaeae ||
इहु नीघरु घरु कही न पाए ॥
This ego is homeless; it shall never find a home.
ਹਮ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥੬॥

हम गुरि राखि लीए लिव लाए ॥६॥
The Guru has saved me; I am lovingly attuned to the Lord. ||6||
ਇਨ ਲੋਗਨ ਸਿਉ ਹਮ ਭਏ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥
Ein Logan Sio Ham Bheae Bairaaee ||
इन लोगन सिउ हम भए बैराई ॥
I have become alienated from these people.
ਏਕ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਇ ਨ ਖਟਾਂਈ ॥
Eaek Grih Mehi Dhue N Khattaanee ||
एक ग्रिह महि दुइ न खटांई ॥
We cannot both live together in one home.
ਆਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਹਿ ਅੰਚਰਿ ਲਾਗਿ ॥

आए प्रभ पहि अंचरि लागि ॥
Grasping the hem of the Guru's Robe, I have come to God.

God smiled at me and spoke, passing judgement.

सगल दूत मेरी सेवा लाए ॥
He made all the demons perform service for me.
ਤੂੰ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਇਹੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥

तूं ठाकुरु इहु ग्रिहु सभु तेरा ॥
