ਭਉ ਖਾਣਾ ਪੀਣਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
Bho Khaanaa Peenaa Sukh Saar ||
भउ खाणा पीणा सुखु सारु ॥
Those who eat and drink the Fear of God, find the most excellent peace.
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਾਰੁ ॥
Har Jan Sangath Paavai Paar ||
हरि जन संगति पावै पारु ॥
Associating with the humble servants of the Lord, they are carried across.
ਸਚੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਬੋਲਾਵੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
Sach Bolai Bolaavai Piaar ||
सचु बोलै बोलावै पिआरु ॥
They speak the Truth, and lovingly inspire others to speak it as well.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੁ ॥੭॥
Gur Kaa Sabadh Karanee Hai Saar ||7||
गुर का सबदु करणी है सारु ॥७॥
The Word of the Guru's Shabad is the most excellent occupation. ||7||
ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਪਤਿ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
Har Jas Karam Dhharam Path Poojaa ||
हरि जसु करमु धरमु पति पूजा ॥
Those who take the Lord's Praises as their karma and Dharma, their honor and worship service
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਗਨੀ ਮਹਿ ਭੂੰਜਾ ॥
Kaam Krodhh Aganee Mehi Bhoonjaa ||
काम क्रोध अगनी महि भूंजा ॥
Their sexual desire and anger are burnt off in the fire.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਜਾ ॥
Har Ras Chaakhiaa Tho Man Bheejaa ||
हरि रसु चाखिआ तउ मनु भीजा ॥
They taste the sublime essence of the Lord, and their minds are drenched with it.
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੮॥੫॥

राम नामु जपि अंतरि पूजा ॥
Chant the Lord's Name and worship Him deep within your being.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧॥
Gur Sabadh Veechaar Avar Nehee Dhoojaa ||1||
गुर सबदु वीचारि अवरु नही दूजा ॥१॥
Contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad and no other. ||1||
ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਠਾਈ ॥
Eaeko Rav Rehiaa Sabh Thaaee ||
एको रवि रहिआ सभ ठाई ॥
The One is pervading all places.
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਪੂਜ ਚੜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

अवरु न दीसै किसु पूज चड़ाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
I do not see any other; unto whom should I offer worship? ||1||Pause||
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਆਗੈ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਤੁਝ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
Man Than Aagai Jeearraa Thujh Paas ||
मनु तनु आगै जीअड़ा तुझ पासि ॥
I place my mind and body in offering before You; I dedicate my soul to You.
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖਹੁ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੨॥
Jio Bhaavai Thio Rakhahu Aradhaas ||2||
जिउ भावै तिउ रखहु अरदासि ॥२॥
As it pleases You, You save me, Lord; this is my prayer. ||2||
ਸਚੁ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਈ ॥
Sach Jihavaa Har Rasan Rasaaee ||
सचु जिहवा हरि रसन रसाई ॥
True is that tongue which is delighted by the sublime essence of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੩॥
Guramath Shhoottas Prabh Saranaaee ||3||
गुरमति छूटसि प्रभ सरणाई ॥३॥
Following the Guru's Teachings, one is saved in the Sanctuary of God. ||3||
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਕੀਏ ॥
Karam Dhharam Prabh Maerai Keeeae ||
करम धरम प्रभि मेरै कीए ॥
My God created religious rituals.
ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਕੀਏ ॥੪॥
Naam Vaddaaee Sir Karamaan Keeeae ||4||
नामु वडाई सिरि करमां कीए ॥४॥
He placed the glory of the Naam above these rituals. ||4||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ॥
Sathigur Kai Vas Chaar Padhaarathh ||
सतिगुर कै वसि चारि पदारथ ॥
The four great blessings are under the control of the True Guru.
ਤੀਨਿ ਸਮਾਏ ਏਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਤਾਰਥ ॥੫॥
Theen Samaaeae Eaek Kirathaarathh ||5||
तीनि समाए एक क्रितारथ ॥५॥
When the first three are put aside, one is blessed with the fourth. ||5||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਏ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਧਿਆਨਾਂ ॥
Sathigur Dheeeae Mukath Dhhiaanaan ||
सतिगुरि दीए मुकति धिआनां ॥
Those whom the True Guru blesses with liberation and meditation
ਹਰਿ ਪਦੁ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਭਏ ਪਰਧਾਨਾ ॥੬॥
Har Padh Cheenih Bheae Paradhhaanaa ||6||
हरि पदु चीन्हि भए परधाना ॥६॥
Realize the Lord's State, and become sublime. ||6||
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
Man Than Seethal Gur Boojh Bujhaaee ||
मनु तनु सीतलु गुरि बूझ बुझाई ॥
Their minds and bodies are cooled and soothed; the Guru imparts this understanding.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਵਾਜੇ ਕਿਨਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥
Prabh Nivaajae Kin Keemath Paaee ||7||
प्रभु निवाजे किनि कीमति पाई ॥७॥
Who can estimate the value of those whom God has exalted? ||7||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
Kahu Naanak Gur Boojh Bujhaaee ||
कहु नानक गुरि बूझ बुझाई ॥
Says Nanak, the Guru has imparted this understanding;
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਗਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੮॥੬॥
Naam Binaa Gath Kinai N Paaee ||8||6||
नाम बिना गति किनै न पाई ॥८॥६॥
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, no one is emancipated. ||8||6||

Eik Dhhur Bakhas Leae Gur Poorai Sachee Banath Banaaee ||
इकि धुरि बखसि लए गुरि पूरै सची बणत बणाई ॥
Some are forgiven by the Primal Lord God; the Perfect Guru makes the true making.
ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਦੁਖ ਬਿਸਰੇ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
Har Rang Raathae Sadhaa Rang Saachaa Dhukh Bisarae Path Paaee ||1||
हरि रंग राते सदा रंगु साचा दुख बिसरे पति पाई ॥१॥
Those who are attuned to the Love of the Lord are imbued with Truth forever; their pains are dispelled, and they obtain honor. ||1||
ਝੂਠੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਕੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
Jhoothee Dhuramath Kee Chathuraaee ||
झूठी दुरमति की चतुराई ॥
False are the clever tricks of the evil-minded.
ਬਿਨਸਤ ਬਾਰ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਕਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Binasath Baar N Laagai Kaaee ||1|| Rehaao ||
बिनसत बार न लागै काई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
They shall disappear in no time at all. ||1||Pause||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਵਿਆਪਸਿ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
Manamukh Ko Dhukh Dharadh Viaapas Manamukh Dhukh N Jaaee ||
मनमुख कउ दुखु दरदु विआपसि मनमुखि दुखु न जाई ॥
Pain and suffering afflict the self-willed manmukh. The pains of the self-willed manmukh shall never depart.
ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੨॥
Sukh Dhukh Dhaathaa Guramukh Jaathaa Mael Leae Saranaaee ||2||
सुख दुख दाता गुरमुखि जाता मेलि लए सरणाई ॥२॥
The Gurmukh recognizes the Giver of pleasure and pain. He merges in His Sanctuary. ||2||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਅਭ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਸਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਪਚਹਿ ਦਿਵਾਨੇ ॥
Manamukh Thae Abh Bhagath N Hovas Houmai Pachehi Dhivaanae ||
मनमुख ते अभ भगति न होवसि हउमै पचहि दिवाने ॥
The self-willed manmukhs do not know loving devotional worship; they are insane, rotting away in their egotism.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਖਿਨੁ ਊਭਿ ਪਇਆਲੀ ਜਬ ਲਗਿ ਸਬਦ ਨ ਜਾਨੇ ॥੩॥
Eihu Manooaa Khin Oobh Paeiaalee Jab Lag Sabadh N Jaanae ||3||
इहु मनूआ खिनु ऊभि पइआली जब लगि सबद न जाने ॥३॥
This mind flies in an instant from the heavens to the underworld, as long as it does not know the Word of the Shabad. ||3||
ਭੂਖ ਪਿਆਸਾ ਜਗੁ ਭਇਆ ਤਿਪਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਏ ॥
Bhookh Piaasaa Jag Bhaeiaa Thipath Nehee Bin Sathigur Paaeae ||
भूख पिआसा जगु भइआ तिपति नही बिनु सतिगुर पाए ॥
The world has become hungry and thirsty; without the True Guru, it is not satisfied.
ਸਹਜੈ ਸਹਜੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧਾ ਜਾਏ ॥੪॥
Sehajai Sehaj Milai Sukh Paaeeai Dharageh Paidhhaa Jaaeae ||4||
सहजै सहजु मिलै सुखु पाईऐ दरगह पैधा जाए ॥४॥
Merging intuitively in the Celestial Lord, peace is obtained, and one goes to the Lord's Court wearing robes of honor. ||4||
ਦਰਗਹ ਦਾਨਾ ਬੀਨਾ ਇਕੁ ਆਪੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
Dharageh Dhaanaa Beenaa Eik Aapae Niramal Gur Kee Baanee ||
दरगह दाना बीना इकु आपे निरमल गुर की बाणी ॥
The Lord in His Court is Himself the Knower and Seer; the Word of the Guru's Bani is Immaculate.
ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਤਾ ਸਚੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਸਿ ਆਪੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੫॥
Aapae Surathaa Sach Veechaaras Aapae Boojhai Padh Nirabaanee ||5||
आपे सुरता सचु वीचारसि आपे बूझै पदु निरबाणी ॥५॥
He Himself is the Awareness of Truth; He Himself understands the state of nirvaanaa. ||5||
ਜਲੁ ਤਰੰਗ ਅਗਨੀ ਪਵਨੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
Jal Tharang Aganee Pavanai Fun Thrai Mil Jagath Oupaaeiaa ||
जलु तरंग अगनी पवनै फुनि त्रै मिलि जगतु उपाइआ ॥
He made the waves of water, the fire and the air, and then joined the three together to form the world.
ਐਸਾ ਬਲੁ ਛਲੁ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
Aisaa Bal Shhal Thin Ko Dheeaa Hukamee Thaak Rehaaeiaa ||6||
ऐसा बलु छलु तिन कउ दीआ हुकमी ठाकि रहाइआ ॥६॥
He blessed these elements with such power, that they remain subject to His Command. ||6||
ਐਸੇ ਜਨ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਜਗ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਰਖਿ ਖਜਾਨੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Aisae Jan Viralae Jag Andhar Parakh Khajaanai Paaeiaa ||
ऐसे जन विरले जग अंदरि परखि खजानै पाइआ ॥
How rare are those humble beings in this world, whom the Lord tests and places in His Treasury.
ਜਾਤਿ ਵਰਨ ਤੇ ਭਏ ਅਤੀਤਾ ਮਮਤਾ ਲੋਭੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੭॥
Jaath Varan Thae Bheae Atheethaa Mamathaa Lobh Chukaaeiaa ||7||
जाति वरन ते भए अतीता ममता लोभु चुकाइआ ॥७॥
They rise above social status and color, and rid themselves of possessiveness and greed. ||7||
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
Naam Rathae Theerathh Sae Niramal Dhukh Houmai Mail Chukaaeiaa ||
नामि रते तीरथ से निरमल दुखु हउमै मैलु चुकाइआ ॥
Attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, they are like immaculate sacred shrines; they are rid of the pain and pollution of egotism.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਪਖਾਲੈ ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੮॥੭॥
Naanak Thin Kae Charan Pakhaalai Jinaa Guramukh Saachaa Bhaaeiaa ||8||7||
नानकु तिन के चरन पखालै जिना गुरमुखि साचा भाइआ ॥८॥७॥
Nanak washes the feet of those who, as Gurmukh, love the True Lord. ||8||7||
