Brehamaneh Sang Oudhharanan Breham Karam J Pooraneh ||
ब्रहमणह संगि उधरणं ब्रहम करम जि पूरणह ॥
Associating with the Brahmin, one is saved, if his actions are perfect and God-like.
ਆਤਮ ਰਤੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਗਹੰ ਤੇ ਨਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਹਫਲਹ ॥੬੫॥
Aatham Rathan Sansaar Gehan Thae Nar Naanak Nihafaleh ||65||
आतम रतं संसार गहं ते नर नानक निहफलह ॥६५॥
Those whose souls are imbued with the world - O Nanak, their lives are fruitless. ||65||
ਪਰ ਦਰਬ ਹਿਰਣੰ ਬਹੁ ਵਿਘਨ ਕਰਣੰ ਉਚਰਣੰ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਅ ਕਹ ॥
Par Dharab Hiranan Bahu Vighan Karanan Oucharanan Sarab Jeea Keh ||
पर दरब हिरणं बहु विघन करणं उचरणं सरब जीअ कह ॥
The mortal steals the wealth of others, and makes all sorts of problems; his preaching is only for his own livelihood.
ਲਉ ਲਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਤਿਪਤਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਏ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਸਿ ਸੂਕਰਹ ॥੬੬॥
Lo Lee Thrisanaa Athipath Man Maaeae Karam Karath S Sookareh ||66||
लउ लई त्रिसना अतिपति मन माए करम करत सि सूकरह ॥६६॥
His desire for this and that is not satisfied; his mind is caught in Maya, and he is acting like a pig. ||66||
ਮਤੇ ਸਮੇਵ ਚਰਣੰ ਉਧਰਣੰ ਭੈ ਦੁਤਰਹ ॥
Mathae Samaev Charanan Oudhharanan Bhai Dhuthareh ||
मते समेव चरणं उधरणं भै दुतरह ॥
Those who are intoxicated and absorbed in the Lord's Lotus Feet are saved from the terrifying world-ocean.
ਅਨੇਕ ਪਾਤਿਕ ਹਰਣੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਮ ਨ ਸੰਸਯਹ ॥੬੭॥੪॥
Anaek Paathik Haranan Naanak Saadhh Sangam N Sansayeh ||67||4||
अनेक पातिक हरणं नानक साध संगम न संसयह ॥६७॥४॥
Countless sins are destroyed, O Nanak, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; there is no doubt about this. ||67||4||

ਕਰਪੂਰ ਪੁਹਪ ਸੁਗੰਧਾ ਪਰਸ ਮਾਨੁਖ੍ਯ੍ਯ ਦੇਹੰ ਮਲੀਣੰ ॥
Karapoor Puhap Sugandhhaa Paras Maanukhy Dhaehan Maleenan ||
करपूर पुहप सुगंधा परस मानुख्य देहं मलीणं ॥
Camphor, flowers and perfume become contaminated, by coming into contact with the human body.
ਮਜਾ ਰੁਧਿਰ ਦ੍ਰੁਗੰਧਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਥਿ ਗਰਬੇਣ ਅਗ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਨਣੋ ॥੧॥
Majaa Rudhhir Dhraagandhhaa Naanak Athh Garabaen Agyaanano ||1||
मजा रुधिर द्रुगंधा नानक अथि गरबेण अग्यानणो ॥१॥
O Nanak, the ignorant one is proud of his foul-smelling marrow, blood and bones. ||1||
ਪਰਮਾਣੋ ਪਰਜੰਤ ਆਕਾਸਹ ਦੀਪ ਲੋਅ ਸਿਖੰਡਣਹ ॥
Paramaano Parajanth Aakaaseh Dheep Loa Sikhanddaneh ||
परमाणो परजंत आकासह दीप लोअ सिखंडणह ॥
Even if the mortal could reduce himself to the size of an atom, and shoot through the ethers,
ਗਛੇਣ ਨੈਣ ਭਾਰੇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਨ ਸਿਧ੍ਯ੍ਯਤੇ ॥੨॥
Gashhaen Nain Bhaaraen Naanak Binaa Saadhhoo N Sidhhyathae ||2||
गछेण नैण भारेण नानक बिना साधू न सिध्यते ॥२॥
Worlds and realms in the blink of an eye, O Nanak, without the Holy Saint, he shall not be saved. ||2||
ਜਾਣੋ ਸਤਿ ਹੋਵੰਤੋ ਮਰਣੋ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੇਣ ਮਿਥਿਆ ॥
Jaano Sath Hovantho Marano Dhrisattaen Mithhiaa ||
जाणो सति होवंतो मरणो द्रिसटेण मिथिआ ॥
Know for sure that death will come; whatever is seen is false.
ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਾਥਿ ਚਲੰਥੋ ਭਣੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣ ॥੩॥
Keerath Saathh Chalanthho Bhananth Naanak Saadhh Sangaen ||3||
कीरति साथि चलंथो भणंति नानक साध संगेण ॥३॥
So chant the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; this alone shall go along with you in the end. ||3||
ਮਾਯਾ ਚਿਤ ਭਰਮੇਣ ਇਸਟ ਮਿਤ੍ਰੇਖੁ ਬਾਂਧਵਹ ॥
Maayaa Chith Bharamaen Eisatt Mithraekh Baandhhaveh ||
माया चित भरमेण इसट मित्रेखु बांधवह ॥
The consciousness wanders lost in Maya, attached to friends and relatives.
ਲਬਧ੍ਯ੍ਯੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖ ਅਸਥਾਨੰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਭਜਣੰ ॥੪॥
Labadhhyan Saadhh Sangaen Naanak Sukh Asathhaanan Gopaal Bhajanan ||4||
लबध्यं साध संगेण नानक सुख असथानं गोपाल भजणं ॥४॥
Vibrating and meditating on the Lord of the Universe in the Saadh Sangat, O Nanak, the eternal place of rest is found. ||4||
ਮੈਲਾਗਰ ਸੰਗੇਣ ਨਿੰਮੁ ਬਿਰਖ ਸਿ ਚੰਦਨਹ ॥
Mailaagar Sangaen Ninm Birakh S Chandhaneh ||
मैलागर संगेण निमु बिरख सि चंदनह ॥
The lowly nim tree, growing near the sandalwood tree, becomes just like the sandalwood tree.
ਨਿਕਟਿ ਬਸੰਤੋ ਬਾਂਸੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਹੰ ਬੁਧਿ ਨ ਬੋਹਤੇ ॥੫॥
Nikatt Basantho Baanso Naanak Ahan Budhh N Bohathae ||5||
निकटि बसंतो बांसो नानक अहं बुधि न बोहते ॥५॥
But the bamboo tree, also growing near it, does not pick up its fragrance; it is too tall and proud. ||5||
ਗਾਥਾ ਗੁੰਫ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਕਥੰ ਮਥੰ ਮਾਨ ਮਰਦਨਹ ॥
Gaathhaa Gunf Gopaal Kathhan Mathhan Maan Maradhaneh ||
गाथा गु्मफ गोपाल कथं मथं मान मरदनह ॥
In this Gaat'haa, the Lord's Sermon is woven; listening to it, pride is crushed.
ਹਤੰ ਪੰਚ ਸਤ੍ਰੇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਣਹ ॥੬॥
Hathan Panch Sathraen Naanak Har Baanae Prehaaraneh ||6||
हतं पंच सत्रेण नानक हरि बाणे प्रहारणह ॥६॥
The five enemies are killed, O Nanak, by shooting the Arrow of the Lord. ||6||
ਬਚਨ ਸਾਧ ਸੁਖ ਪੰਥਾ ਲਹੰਥਾ ਬਡ ਕਰਮਣਹ ॥
Bachan Saadhh Sukh Panthhaa Lehanthhaa Badd Karamaneh ||
बचन साध सुख पंथा लहंथा बड करमणह ॥
The Words of the Holy are the path of peace. They are obtained by good karma.
ਰਹੰਤਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੇਨ ਰਮਣੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਹ ॥੭॥
Rehanthaa Janam Maranaen Ramanan Naanak Har Keerathaneh ||7||
रहंता जनम मरणेन रमणं नानक हरि कीरतनह ॥७॥
The cycle of birth and death is ended, O Nanak, singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||7||
ਪਤ੍ਰ ਭੁਰਿਜੇਣ ਝੜੀਯੰ ਨਹ ਜੜੀਅੰ ਪੇਡ ਸੰਪਤਾ ॥
Pathr Bhurijaen Jharreeyan Neh Jarreean Paedd Sanpathaa ||
पत्र भुरिजेण झड़ीयं नह जड़ीअं पेड स्मपता ॥
When the leaves wither and fall, they cannot be attached to the branch again.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣ ਬਿਖਮਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਹੰਤਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਬਾਸਰੋ ਰੈਣੀ ॥੮॥
Naam Bihoon Bikhamathaa Naanak Behanth Jon Baasaro Rainee ||8||
नाम बिहूण बिखमता नानक बहंति जोनि बासरो रैणी ॥८॥
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, O Nanak, there is misery and suffering. The mortal wanders in reincarnation day and night. ||8||
ਭਾਵਨੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣ ਲਭੰਤੰ ਬਡ ਭਾਗਣਹ ॥
Bhaavanee Saadhh Sangaen Labhanthan Badd Bhaaganeh ||
भावनी साध संगेण लभंतं बड भागणह ॥
One is blessed with love for the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, by great good fortune.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਰਮਣੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਹ ਬਿਆਪਣਹ ॥੯॥
Har Naam Gun Ramanan Naanak Sansaar Saagar Neh Biaapaneh ||9||
हरि नाम गुण रमणं नानक संसार सागर नह बिआपणह ॥९॥
Whoever sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name, O Nanak, is not affected by the world-ocean. ||9||
ਗਾਥਾ ਗੂੜ ਅਪਾਰੰ ਸਮਝਣੰ ਬਿਰਲਾ ਜਨਹ ॥
Gaathhaa Goorr Apaaran Samajhanan Biralaa Janeh ||
गाथा गूड़ अपारं समझणं बिरला जनह ॥
This Gaat'haa is profound and infinite; how rare are those who understand it.
ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕਾਮ ਤਜਣੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਰਮਣੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਮਹ ॥੧੦॥
Sansaar Kaam Thajanan Naanak Gobindh Ramanan Saadhh Sangameh ||10||
संसार काम तजणं नानक गोबिंद रमणं साध संगमह ॥१०॥
They forsake sexual desire and worldly love, O Nanak, and praise the Lord in the Saadh Sangat. ||10||
ਸੁਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਾਧ ਬਚਨਾ ਕੋਟਿ ਦੋਖ ਬਿਨਾਸਨਹ ॥
Sumanthr Saadhh Bachanaa Kott Dhokh Binaasaneh ||
सुमंत्र साध बचना कोटि दोख बिनासनह ॥
The Words of the Holy are the most sublime Mantra. They eradicate millions of sinful mistakes.
ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਧ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਨੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੁਲ ਸਮੂਹ ਉਧਾਰਣਹ ॥੧੧॥
Har Charan Kamal Dhhyaanan Naanak Kul Samooh Oudhhaaraneh ||11||
हरि चरण कमल ध्यानं नानक कुल समूह उधारणह ॥११॥
Meditating on the Lotus Feet of the Lord, O Nanak, all one's generations are saved. ||11||
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਮੰਦਰ ਸੈਣਹ ਜੇਣ ਮਧ੍ਯ੍ਯ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਹ ॥
Sundhar Mandhar Saineh Jaen Madhhy Har Keerathaneh ||
सुंदर मंदर सैणह जेण मध्य हरि कीरतनह ॥
That palace is beautiful, in which the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung.
ਮੁਕਤੇ ਰਮਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਬਧ੍ਯ੍ਯੰ ਬਡ ਭਾਗਣਹ ॥੧੨॥
Mukathae Raman Gobindheh Naanak Labadhhyan Badd Bhaaganeh ||12||
मुकते रमण गोबिंदह नानक लबध्यं बड भागणह ॥१२॥
Those who dwell on the Lord of the Universe are liberated. O Nanak, only the most fortunate are so blessed. ||12||
ਹਰਿ ਲਬਧੋ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਮਿਤੋ ॥
Har Labadhho Mithr Sumitho ||
हरि लबधो मित्र सुमितो ॥
I have found the Lord, my Friend, my very Best Friend.
ਬਿਦਾਰਣ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਚਿਤੋ ॥
Bidhaaran Kadhae N Chitho ||
बिदारण कदे न चितो ॥
He shall never break my heart.
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਅਸਥਲੁ ਤੋਲੁ ਅਮਿਤੋ ॥
Jaa Kaa Asathhal Thol Amitho ||
जा का असथलु तोलु अमितो ॥
His dwelling is eternal; His weight cannot be weighed.
ਸਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਖਾ ਜੀਅ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਿਤੋ ॥੧੩॥
Suoee Naanak Sakhaa Jeea Sang Kitho ||13||
सोई नानक सखा जीअ संगि कितो ॥१३॥
Nanak has made Him the Friend of his soul. ||13||
ਅਪਜਸੰ ਮਿਟੰਤ ਸਤ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਹ ॥
Apajasan Mittanth Sath Puthreh ||
अपजसं मिटंत सत पुत्रह ॥
One's bad reputation is erased by a true son,
ਸਿਮਰਤਬ੍ਯ੍ਯ ਰਿਦੈ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਣਹ ॥
