Misal Fakeeraan Gaakharree S Paaeeai Poor Karanm ||111||
मिसल फकीरां गाखड़ी सु पाईऐ पूर करमि ॥१११॥
It is so difficult to be like the fakeers - the Holy Saints; it is only achieved by perfect karma. ||111||
ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਫੁਲੜਾ ਫਲੁ ਭੀ ਪਛਾ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
Pehilai Peharai Fularraa Fal Bhee Pashhaa Raath ||
पहिलै पहरै फुलड़ा फलु भी पछा राति ॥
The first watch of the night brings flowers, and the later watches of the night bring fruit.
ਜੋ ਜਾਗੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਲਹੰਨਿ ਸੇ ਸਾਈ ਕੰਨੋ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੧੧੨॥
Jo Jaagannih Lehann Sae Saaee Kanno Dhaath ||112||
जो जागंन्हि लहंनि से साई कंनो दाति ॥११२॥
Those who remain awake and aware, receive the gifts from the Lord. ||112||
ਦਾਤੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸੰਦੀਆ ਕਿਆ ਚਲੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
Dhaathee Saahib Sandheeaa Kiaa Chalai This Naal ||
दाती साहिब संदीआ किआ चलै तिसु नालि ॥
The gifts are from our Lord and Master; who can force Him to bestow them?
ਇਕਿ ਜਾਗੰਦੇ ਨਾ ਲਹਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਸੁਤਿਆ ਦੇਇ ਉਠਾਲਿ ॥੧੧੩॥
Eik Jaagandhae Naa Lehanih Eikanhaa Suthiaa Dhaee Outhaal ||113||
इकि जागंदे ना लहन्हि इकन्हा सुतिआ देइ उठालि ॥११३॥
Some are awake, and do not receive them, while He awakens others from sleep to bless them. ||113||
ਢੂਢੇਦੀਏ ਸੁਹਾਗ ਕੂ ਤਉ ਤਨਿ ਕਾਈ ਕੋਰ ॥
Dtoodtaedheeeae Suhaag Koo Tho Than Kaaee Kor ||
ढूढेदीए सुहाग कू तउ तनि काई कोर ॥
You search for your Husband Lord; you must have some fault in your body.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਨਾਉ ਸੁਹਾਗਣੀ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਝਾਕ ਨ ਹੋਰ ॥੧੧੪॥
Jinhaa Naao Suhaaganee Thinhaa Jhaak N Hor ||114||
जिन्हा नाउ सुहागणी तिन्हा झाक न होर ॥११४॥
Those who are known as happy soul-brides, do not look to others. ||114||
ਸਬਰ ਮੰਝ ਕਮਾਣ ਏ ਸਬਰੁ ਕਾ ਨੀਹਣੋ ॥
Sabar Manjh Kamaan Eae Sabar Kaa Neehano ||
सबर मंझ कमाण ए सबरु का नीहणो ॥
Within yourself, make patience the bow, and make patience the bowstring.
ਸਬਰ ਸੰਦਾ ਬਾਣੁ ਖਾਲਕੁ ਖਤਾ ਨ ਕਰੀ ॥੧੧੫॥
Sabar Sandhaa Baan Khaalak Khathaa N Karee ||115||
सबर संदा बाणु खालकु खता न करी ॥११५॥
Make patience the arrow, the Creator will not let you miss the target. ||115||
ਸਬਰ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਾਬਰੀ ਤਨੁ ਏਵੈ ਜਾਲੇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥
Sabar Andhar Saabaree Than Eaevai Jaalaenih ||
सबर अंदरि साबरी तनु एवै जालेन्हि ॥
Those who are patient abide in patience; in this way, they burn their bodies.
ਹੋਨਿ ਨਜੀਕਿ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਦੈ ਭੇਤੁ ਨ ਕਿਸੈ ਦੇਨਿ ॥੧੧੬॥
Hon Najeek Khudhaae Dhai Bhaeth N Kisai Dhaen ||116||
होनि नजीकि खुदाइ दै भेतु न किसै देनि ॥११६॥
They are close to the Lord, but they do not reveal their secret to anyone. ||116||
ਸਬਰੁ ਏਹੁ ਸੁਆਉ ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਬੰਦਾ ਦਿੜੁ ਕਰਹਿ ॥
Sabar Eaehu Suaao Jae Thoon Bandhaa Dhirr Karehi ||
सबरु एहु सुआउ जे तूं बंदा दिड़ु करहि ॥
Let patience be your purpose in life; implant this within your being.
ਵਧਿ ਥੀਵਹਿ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਟੁਟਿ ਨ ਥੀਵਹਿ ਵਾਹੜਾ ॥੧੧੭॥
Vadhh Thheevehi Dhareeaao Ttutt N Thheevehi Vaaharraa ||117||
वधि थीवहि दरीआउ टुटि न थीवहि वाहड़ा ॥११७॥
In this way, you will grow into a great river; you will not break off into a tiny stream. ||117||
ਫਰੀਦਾ ਦਰਵੇਸੀ ਗਾਖੜੀ ਚੋਪੜੀ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥
Fareedhaa Dharavaesee Gaakharree Choparree Pareeth ||
फरीदा दरवेसी गाखड़ी चोपड़ी परीति ॥
Fareed, it is difficult to be a dervish - a Holy Saint; it is easier to love bread when it is buttered.
ਇਕਨਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਚਾਲੀਐ ਦਰਵੇਸਾਵੀ ਰੀਤਿ ॥੧੧੮॥
Eikan Kinai Chaaleeai Dharavaesaavee Reeth ||118||
इकनि किनै चालीऐ दरवेसावी रीति ॥११८॥
Only a rare few follow the way of the Saints. ||118||
ਤਨੁ ਤਪੈ ਤਨੂਰ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਲਣੁ ਹਡ ਬਲੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥
Than Thapai Thanoor Jio Baalan Hadd Balannih ||
तनु तपै तनूर जिउ बालणु हड बलंन्हि ॥
My body is cooking like an oven; my bones are burning like firewood.
ਪੈਰੀ ਥਕਾਂ ਸਿਰਿ ਜੁਲਾਂ ਜੇ ਮੂੰ ਪਿਰੀ ਮਿਲੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥੧੧੯॥
Pairee Thhakaan Sir Julaan Jae Moon Piree Milannih ||119||
पैरी थकां सिरि जुलां जे मूं पिरी मिलंन्हि ॥११९॥
If my feet become tired, I will walk on my head, if I can meet my Beloved. ||119||
ਤਨੁ ਨ ਤਪਾਇ ਤਨੂਰ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਲਣੁ ਹਡ ਨ ਬਾਲਿ ॥

तनु न तपाइ तनूर जिउ बालणु हड न बालि ॥
Do not heat up your body like an oven, and do not burn your bones like firewood.

What harm have your feet and head done to you? Behold your Beloved within yourself. ||120||
ਹਉ ਢੂਢੇਦੀ ਸਜਣਾ ਸਜਣੁ ਮੈਡੇ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
Ho Dtoodtaedhee Sajanaa Sajan Maiddae Naal ||
हउ ढूढेदी सजणा सजणु मैडे नालि ॥
I search for my Friend, but my Friend is already with me.
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਇ ਦਿਖਾਲਿ ॥੧੨੧॥
Naanak Alakh N Lakheeai Guramukh Dhaee Dhikhaal ||121||
नानक अलखु न लखीऐ गुरमुखि देइ दिखालि ॥१२१॥
O Nanak, the Unseen Lord cannot be seen; He is revealed only to the Gurmukh. ||121||
ਹੰਸਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਤਰੰਦਿਆ ਬਗਾ ਆਇਆ ਚਾਉ ॥
Hansaa Dhaekh Tharandhiaa Bagaa Aaeiaa Chaao ||
हंसा देखि तरंदिआ बगा आइआ चाउ ॥
Seeing the swans swimming, the cranes became excited.
ਡੁਬਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਗ ਬਪੁੜੇ ਸਿਰੁ ਤਲਿ ਉਪਰਿ ਪਾਉ ॥੧੨੨॥
Ddub Mueae Bag Bapurrae Sir Thal Oupar Paao ||122||
डुबि मुए बग बपुड़े सिरु तलि उपरि पाउ ॥१२२॥
The poor cranes were drowned to death, with their heads below the water and their feet sticking out above. ||122||
ਮੈ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਵਡ ਹੰਸੁ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਮੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
Mai Jaaniaa Vadd Hans Hai Thaan Mai Keethaa Sang ||
मै जाणिआ वड हंसु है तां मै कीता संगु ॥
I knew him as a great swan, so I associated with him.
ਜੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਬਗੁ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਭੇੜੀ ਅੰਗੁ ॥੧੨੩॥
Jae Jaanaa Bag Bapurraa Janam N Bhaerree Ang ||123||
जे जाणा बगु बपुड़ा जनमि न भेड़ी अंगु ॥१२३॥
If I had known that he was a only wretched crane, I would never in my life have crossed paths with him. ||123||
ਕਿਆ ਹੰਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਬਗੁਲਾ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਧਰੇ ॥
Kiaa Hans Kiaa Bagulaa Jaa Ko Nadhar Dhharae ||
किआ हंसु किआ बगुला जा कउ नदरि धरे ॥
Who is a swan, and who is a crane, if God blesses him with His Glance of Grace?
ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਕਾਗਹੁ ਹੰਸੁ ਕਰੇ ॥੧੨੪॥

जे तिसु भावै नानका कागहु हंसु करे ॥१२४॥
If it pleases Him, O Nanak, He changes a crow into a swan. ||124||
ਸਰਵਰ ਪੰਖੀ ਹੇਕੜੋ ਫਾਹੀਵਾਲ ਪਚਾਸ ॥
Saravar Pankhee Haekarro Faaheevaal Pachaas ||
सरवर पंखी हेकड़ो फाहीवाल पचास ॥
There is only one bird in the lake, but there are fifty trappers.
ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਲਹਰੀ ਗਡੁ ਥਿਆ ਸਚੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਸ ॥੧੨੫॥
Eihu Than Leharee Gadd Thhiaa Sachae Thaeree Aas ||125||
इहु तनु लहरी गडु थिआ सचे तेरी आस ॥१२५॥
This body is caught in the waves of desire. O my True Lord, You are my only hope! ||125||

कवणु सु वेसो हउ करी जितु वसि आवै कंतु ॥१२६॥
What are those clothes, which I can wear to captivate my Husband Lord? ||126||

निवणु सु अखरु खवणु गुणु जिहबा मणीआ मंतु ॥
Humility is the word, forgiveness is the virtue, and sweet speech is the magic mantra.
ਏ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਭੈਣੇ ਵੇਸ ਕਰਿ ਤਾਂ ਵਸਿ ਆਵੀ ਕੰਤੁ ॥੧੨੭॥
Eae Thrai Bhainae Vaes Kar Thaan Vas Aavee Kanth ||127||
ए त्रै भैणे वेस करि तां वसि आवी कंतु ॥१२७॥
Wear these three robes, O sister, and you will captivate your Husband Lord. ||127||
ਮਤਿ ਹੋਦੀ ਹੋਇ ਇਆਣਾ ॥
Math Hodhee Hoe Eiaanaa ||
मति होदी होइ इआणा ॥
If you are wise, be simple;
ਤਾਣ ਹੋਦੇ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਤਾਣਾ ॥
Thaan Hodhae Hoe Nithaanaa ||
ताण होदे होइ निताणा ॥
If you are powerful, be weak;
ਅਣਹੋਦੇ ਆਪੁ ਵੰਡਾਏ ॥
Anehodhae Aap Vanddaaeae ||
अणहोदे आपु वंडाए ॥
And when there is nothing to share, then share with others.
ਕੋ ਐਸਾ ਭਗਤੁ ਸਦਾਏ ॥੧੨੮॥

को ऐसा भगतु सदाए ॥१२८॥
How rare is one who is known as such a devotee. ||128||
ਇਕੁ ਫਿਕਾ ਨ ਗਾਲਾਇ ਸਭਨਾ ਮੈ ਸਚਾ ਧਣੀ ॥

इकु फिका न गालाइ सभना मै सचा धणी ॥
Do not utter even a single harsh word; your True Lord and Master abides in all.
ਹਿਆਉ ਨ ਕੈਹੀ ਠਾਹਿ ਮਾਣਕ ਸਭ ਅਮੋਲਵੇ ॥੧੨੯॥
Hiaao N Kaihee Thaahi Maanak Sabh Amolavae ||129||
हिआउ न कैही ठाहि माणक सभ अमोलवे ॥१२९॥
Do not break anyone's heart; these are all priceless jewels. ||129||
ਸਭਨਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਣਿਕ ਠਾਹਣੁ ਮੂਲਿ ਮਚਾਂਗਵਾ ॥
Sabhanaa Man Maanik Thaahan Mool Machaangavaa ||
सभना मन माणिक ठाहणु मूलि मचांगवा ॥
The minds of all are like precious jewels; to harm them is not good at all.
ਜੇ ਤਉ ਪਿਰੀਆ ਦੀ ਸਿਕ ਹਿਆਉ ਨ ਠਾਹੇ ਕਹੀ ਦਾ ॥੧੩੦॥
