ਜਨ ਕੇ ਸਾਸ ਸਾਸ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰਿ ਬੀਧੇ ॥
Jan Kae Saas Saas Hai Jaethae Har Birehi Prabhoo Har Beedhhae ||
जन के सास सास है जेते हरि बिरहि प्रभू हरि बीधे ॥
Each and every breath of the Lord's humble servant is pierced through with love of the Lord God.
ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਦੇਖੇ ਸੁਕਲੀਧੇ ॥੨॥
Jio Jal Kamal Preeth Ath Bhaaree Bin Jal Dhaekhae Sukaleedhhae ||2||
जिउ जल कमल प्रीति अति भारी बिनु जल देखे सुकलीधे ॥२॥
As the lotus is totally in love with the water and withers away without seeing the water, so am I in love with the Lord. ||2||
ਜਨ ਜਪਿਓ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਨਰਹਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਧੇ ॥
Jan Japiou Naam Niranjan Narehar Oupadhaes Guroo Har Preedhhae ||
जन जपिओ नामु निरंजनु नरहरि उपदेसि गुरू हरि प्रीधे ॥
The Lord's humble servant chants the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord; through the Guru's Teachings, the Lord reveals Himself.
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਨਿਕਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਲਿ ਨੀਧੇ ॥੩॥
Janam Janam Kee Houmai Mal Nikasee Har Anmrith Har Jal Needhhae ||3||
जनम जनम की हउमै मलु निकसी हरि अम्रिति हरि जलि नीधे ॥३॥
The filth of egotism which stained me for countless lifetimes has been washed away, by the Ambrosial Water of the Ocean of the Lord. ||3||
ਹਮਰੇ ਕਰਮ ਨ ਬਿਚਰਹੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਹੁ ਅਪਨੀਧੇ ॥
Hamarae Karam N Bicharahu Thaakur Thumh Paij Rakhahu Apaneedhhae ||
हमरे करम न बिचरहु ठाकुर तुम्ह पैज रखहु अपनीधे ॥
Please, do not take my karma into account, O my Lord and Master; please save the honor of Your slave.
ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁਣਿ ਬਿਨਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਵੀਧੇ ॥੪॥੩॥੫॥

हरि भावै सुणि बिनउ बेनती जन नानक सरणि पवीधे ॥४॥३॥५॥

ਮਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਬਹੁ ਧਾਵੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਘਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Man Khin Khin Bharam Bharam Bahu Dhhaavai Thil Ghar Nehee Vaasaa Paaeeai ||
मनु खिनु खिनु भरमि भरमि बहु धावै तिलु घरि नही वासा पाईऐ ॥
Each and every moment, my mind roams and rambles, and runs all over the place. It does not stay in its own home, even for an instant.
ਗੁਰਿ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਦਾਰੂ ਸਿਰਿ ਧਾਰਿਓ ਘਰਿ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਆਣਿ ਵਸਾਈਐ ॥੧॥
Gur Ankas Sabadh Dhaaroo Sir Dhhaariou Ghar Mandhar Aan Vasaaeeai ||1||
गुरि अंकसु सबदु दारू सिरि धारिओ घरि मंदरि आणि वसाईऐ ॥१॥
But when the bridle of the Shabad, the Word of God, is placed over its head, it returns to dwell in its own home. ||1||
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜੀਉ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
Gobindh Jeeo Sathasangath Mael Har Dhhiaaeeai ||
गोबिंद जीउ सतसंगति मेलि हरि धिआईऐ ॥
O Dear Lord of the Universe, lead me to join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, so that I may meditate on You, Lord.
ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਇਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Houmai Rog Gaeiaa Sukh Paaeiaa Har Sehaj Samaadhh Lagaaeeai ||1|| Rehaao ||
हउमै रोगु गइआ सुखु पाइआ हरि सहजि समाधि लगाईऐ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
I am cured of the disease of egotism, and I have found peace; I have intuitively entered into the state of Samaadhi. ||1||Pause||
ਘਰਿ ਰਤਨ ਲਾਲ ਬਹੁ ਮਾਣਕ ਲਾਦੇ ਮਨੁ ਭ੍ਰਮਿਆ ਲਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਾਈਐ ॥
Ghar Rathan Laal Bahu Maanak Laadhae Man Bhramiaa Lehi N Sakaaeeai ||
घरि रतन लाल बहु माणक लादे मनु भ्रमिआ लहि न सकाईऐ ॥
This house is loaded with countless gems, jewels, rubies and emeralds, but the wandering mind cannot find them.
ਜਿਉ ਓਡਾ ਕੂਪੁ ਗੁਹਜ ਖਿਨ ਕਾਢੈ ਤਿਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਲਹਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
Jio Ouddaa Koop Guhaj Khin Kaadtai Thio Sathigur Vasath Lehaaeeai ||2||
जिउ ओडा कूपु गुहज खिन काढै तिउ सतिगुरि वसतु लहाईऐ ॥२॥
As the water-diviner finds the hidden water, and the well is then dug in an instant, so do we find the object of the Name through the True Guru. ||2||
ਜਿਨ ਐਸਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਧੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਨਰ ਜੀਵਾਈਐ ॥
Jin Aisaa Sathigur Saadhh N Paaeiaa Thae Dhhrig Dhhrig Nar Jeevaaeeai ||
जिन ऐसा सतिगुरु साधु न पाइआ ते ध्रिगु ध्रिगु नर जीवाईऐ ॥
Those who do not find such a Holy True Guru - cursed, cursed are the lives of those people.
ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪੁੰਨਿ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੩॥
Janam Padhaarathh Punn Fal Paaeiaa Kouddee Badhalai Jaaeeai ||3||
जनमु पदारथु पुंनि फलु पाइआ कउडी बदलै जाईऐ ॥३॥
The treasure of this human life is obtained when one's virtues bear fruit, but it is lost in exchange for a mere shell. ||3||
ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਹਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਈਐ ॥
Madhhusoodhan Har Dhhaar Prabh Kirapaa Kar Kirapaa Guroo Milaaeeai ||
मधुसूदन हरि धारि प्रभ किरपा करि किरपा गुरू मिलाईऐ ॥
O Lord God, please be merciful to me; be merciful, and lead me to meet the Guru.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਬਾਣ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੪॥੬॥
Jan Naanak Nirabaan Padh Paaeiaa Mil Saadhhoo Har Gun Gaaeeai ||4||4||6||
जन नानक निरबाण पदु पाइआ मिलि साधू हरि गुण गाईऐ ॥४॥४॥६॥
Servant Nanak has attained the state of Nirvaanaa; meeting with the Holy people, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||4||6||

ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ਭਇਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਦੇਹ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੁੰਞੀ ਸੁੰਞੁ ॥
Aavan Jaan Bhaeiaa Dhukh Bikhiaa Dhaeh Manamukh Sunnjee Sunnj ||
आवण जाणु भइआ दुखु बिखिआ देह मनमुख सुंञी सुंञु ॥
Coming and going, he suffers the pains of vice and corruption; the body of the self-willed manmukh is desolate and vacant.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਚੇਤਿਆ ਜਮਿ ਪਕਰੇ ਕਾਲਿ ਸਲੁੰਞੁ ॥੧॥
Raam Naam Khin Pal Nehee Chaethiaa Jam Pakarae Kaal Salunnj ||1||
राम नामु खिनु पलु नही चेतिआ जमि पकरे कालि सलुंञु ॥१॥
He does not dwell on the Lord's Name, even for an instant, and so the Messenger of Death seizes him by his hair. ||1||
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜੀਉ ਬਿਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੁੰਞੁ ॥
Gobindh Jeeo Bikh Houmai Mamathaa Munnj ||
गोबिंद जीउ बिखु हउमै ममता मुंञु ॥
O Dear Lord of the Universe, please rid me of the poison of egotism and attachment.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਭੁੰਞੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Sathasangath Gur Kee Har Piaaree Mil Sangath Har Ras Bhunnj ||1|| Rehaao ||
सतसंगति गुर की हरि पिआरी मिलि संगति हरि रसु भुंञु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
The Sat Sangat, Guru's True Congregation is so dear to the Lord. So join the Sangat, and taste the sublime essence of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਪੰਞੁ ॥
Sathasangath Saadhh Dhaeiaa Kar Maelahu Saranaagath Saadhhoo Pannj ||
सतसंगति साध दइआ करि मेलहु सरणागति साधू पंञु ॥
Please be kind to me, and unite me with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation of the Holy; I seek the Sanctuary of the Holy.
ਹਮ ਡੁਬਦੇ ਪਾਥਰ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਞੁ ॥੨॥
Ham Ddubadhae Paathhar Kaadt Laehu Prabh Thumh Dheen Dhaeiaal Dhukh Bhannj ||2||
हम डुबदे पाथर काढि लेहु प्रभ तुम्ह दीन दइआल दुख भंञु ॥२॥
I am a heavy stone, sinking down - please lift me up and pull me out! O God, Merciful to the meek, You are the Destroyer of sorrow. ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਲੰਞੁ ॥
Har Ousathath Dhhaarahu Ridh Anthar Suaamee Sathasangath Mil Budhh Lannj ||
हरि उसतति धारहु रिद अंतरि सुआमी सतसंगति मिलि बुधि लंञु ॥
I enshrine the Praises of my Lord and Master within my heart; joining the Sat Sangat, my intellect is enlightened.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਹਮ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਨੀ ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਘੁਮਿ ਵੰਞੁ ॥੩॥
Har Naamai Ham Preeth Lagaanee Ham Har Vittahu Ghum Vannj ||3||
हरि नामै हम प्रीति लगानी हम हरि विटहु घुमि वंञु ॥३॥
I have fallen in love with the Lord's Name; I am a sacrifice to the Lord. ||3||
ਜਨ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਿ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਲੰਞੁ ॥
Jan Kae Poor Manorathh Har Prabh Har Naam Dhaevahu Har Lannj ||
जन के पूरि मनोरथ हरि प्रभ हरि नामु देवहु हरि लंञु ॥
O Lord God, please fulfill the desires of Your humble servant; please bless me with Your Name, O Lord.
