Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਆਧਾਰੋ ॥
Anmrith Naam Manehi Aadhhaaro ||
अम्रित नामु मनहि आधारो ॥
The Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the Support of the mind.
ਜਿਨ ਦੀਆ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jin Dheeaa This Kai Kurabaanai Gur Poorae Namasakaaro ||1|| Rehaao ||
जिन दीआ तिस कै कुरबानै गुर पूरे नमसकारो ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
I am a sacrifice to the One who gave it to me; I humbly bow to the Perfect Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਬੂਝੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਰੋ ॥
Boojhee Thrisanaa Sehaj Suhaelaa Kaam Krodhh Bikh Jaaro ||
बूझी त्रिसना सहजि सुहेला कामु क्रोधु बिखु जारो ॥
My thirst is quenched, and I have been intuitively embellished. The poisons of sexual desire and anger have been burnt away.
ਆਇ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਬਸੈ ਇਹ ਠਾਹਰ ਜਹ ਆਸਨੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੋ ॥੧॥
Aae N Jaae Basai Eih Thaahar Jeh Aasan Nirankaaro ||1||
आइ न जाइ बसै इह ठाहर जह आसनु निरंकारो ॥१॥
This mind does not come and go; it abides in that place, where the Formless Lord sits. ||1||
ਏਕੈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਏਕੈ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਏਕੈ ਧੁੰਧੂਕਾਰੋ ॥
Eaekai Paragatt Eaekai Gupathaa Eaekai Dhhundhhookaaro ||
एकै परगटु एकै गुपता एकै धुंधूकारो ॥
The One Lord is manifest and radiant; the One Lord is hidden and mysterious. The One Lord is abysmal darkness.
ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥੨॥੩੧॥੫੪॥
Aadh Madhh Anth Prabh Soee Kahu Naanak Saach Beechaaro ||2||31||54||
आदि मधि अंति प्रभु सोई कहु नानक साचु बीचारो ॥२॥३१॥५४॥
From the beginning, throughout the middle and until the end, is God. Says Nanak, reflect on the Truth. ||2||31||54||

ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਘਰੀ ॥
Bin Prabh Rehan N Jaae Gharee ||
बिनु प्रभ रहनु न जाइ घरी ॥
Without God, I cannot survive, even for an instant.
ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਤਾਹੂ ਕੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਹਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Sarab Sookh Thaahoo Kai Pooran Jaa Kai Sukh Hai Haree ||1|| Rehaao ||
सरब सूख ताहू कै पूरन जा कै सुखु है हरी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
One who finds joy in the Lord finds total peace and perfection. ||1||Pause||
ਮੰਗਲ ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਜੀਵਨ ਧਨ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਅਨਦ ਘਨਾ ॥
Mangal Roop Praan Jeevan Dhhan Simarath Anadh Ghanaa ||
मंगल रूप प्रान जीवन धन सिमरत अनद घना ॥
God is the Embodiment of bliss, the Breath of Life and Wealth; remembering Him in meditation, I am blessed with absolute bliss.
ਵਡ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਦ ਸੰਗੇ ਗੁਨ ਰਸਨਾ ਕਵਨ ਭਨਾ ॥੧॥
Vadd Samarathh Sadhaa Sadh Sangae Gun Rasanaa Kavan Bhanaa ||1||
वड समरथु सदा सद संगे गुन रसना कवन भना ॥१॥
He is utterly All-powerful, with me forever and ever; what tongue can utter His Glorious Praises? ||1||
ਥਾਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਮਾਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਨਨ ਕਹਨਹਾਰੇ ॥
Thhaan Pavithraa Maan Pavithraa Pavithr Sunan Kehanehaarae ||
थान पवित्रा मान पवित्रा पवित्र सुनन कहनहारे ॥
His Place is sacred, and His Glory is sacred; sacred are those who listen and speak of Him.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਭਵਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਜਾ ਮਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੇ ॥੨॥੩੨॥੫੫॥
Kahu Naanak Thae Bhavan Pavithraa Jaa Mehi Santh Thumhaarae ||2||32||55||
कहु नानक ते भवन पवित्रा जा महि संत तुम्हारे ॥२॥३२॥५५॥
Says Nanak, that dwelling is sacred, in which Your Saints live. ||2||32||55||

रसना जपती तूही तूही ॥
My tongue chants Your Name, Your Name.
ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਕ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੰਡਲ ਇਕ ਤੁਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Maath Garabh Thum Hee Prathipaalak Mrith Manddal Eik Thuhee ||1|| Rehaao ||
मात गरभ तुम ही प्रतिपालक म्रित मंडल इक तुही ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
In the mother's womb, You sustained me, and in this mortal world, You alone help me. ||1||Pause||
ਤੁਮਹਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਮਾਤਾ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਮੀਤ ਹਿਤ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਾ ॥
Thumehi Pithaa Thum Hee Fun Maathaa Thumehi Meeth Hith Bhraathaa ||
तुमहि पिता तुम ही फुनि माता तुमहि मीत हित भ्राता ॥
You are my Father, and You are my Mother; You are my Loving Friend and Sibling.
ਤੁਮ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਆਧਾਰਾ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਦਾਤਾ ॥੧॥
Thum Paravaar Thumehi Aadhhaaraa Thumehi Jeea Praanadhaathaa ||1||
तुम परवार तुमहि आधारा तुमहि जीअ प्रानदाता ॥१॥
You are my Family, and You are my Support. You are the Giver of the Breath of Life. ||1||
ਤੁਮਹਿ ਖਜੀਨਾ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਜਰੀਨਾ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਮਾਣਿਕ ਲਾਲਾ ॥
Thumehi Khajeenaa Thumehi Jareenaa Thum Hee Maanik Laalaa ||
तुमहि खजीना तुमहि जरीना तुम ही माणिक लाला ॥
You are my Treasure, and You are my Wealth. You are my Gems and Jewels.
ਤੁਮਹਿ ਪਾਰਜਾਤ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥੨॥੩੩॥੫੬॥
Thumehi Paarajaath Gur Thae Paaeae Tho Naanak Bheae Nihaalaa ||2||33||56||
तुमहि पारजात गुर ते पाए तउ नानक भए निहाला ॥२॥३३॥५६॥
You are the wish-fulfilling Elysian Tree. Nanak has found You through the Guru, and now he is enraptured. ||2||33||56||

ਜਾਹੂ ਕਾਹੂ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
Jaahoo Kaahoo Apuno Hee Chith Aavai ||
जाहू काहू अपुनो ही चिति आवै ॥
Wherever he goes, his consciousness turns to his own.
ਜੋ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਚੇਰੋ ਹੋਵਤ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹੀ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jo Kaahoo Ko Chaero Hovath Thaakur Hee Pehi Jaavai ||1|| Rehaao ||
जो काहू को चेरो होवत ठाकुर ही पहि जावै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Whoever is a chaylaa (a servant) goes only to his Lord and Master. ||1||Pause||
ਅਪਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਦੂਖ ਅਪਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਸੂਖਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਹੀ ਪਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ॥
Apanae Pehi Dhookh Apunae Pehi Sookhaa Apanae Hee Pehi Birathhaa ||
अपने पहि दूख अपने पहि सूखा अपुने ही पहि बिरथा ॥
He shares his sorrows, his joys and his condition only with his own.
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਤਾਨਾ ਅਪਨੇ ਹੀ ਪਹਿ ਅਰਥਾ ॥੧॥
Apunae Pehi Maan Apunae Pehi Thaanaa Apanae Hee Pehi Arathhaa ||1||
अपुने पहि मानु अपुने पहि ताना अपने ही पहि अरथा ॥१॥
He obtains honor from his own, and strength from his own; he gets an advantage from his own. ||1||
ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਰਾਜ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਧਨ ਮਿਲਖਾ ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਬਾਪ ਮਹਤਾਰੀ ॥
Kin Hee Raaj Joban Dhhan Milakhaa Kin Hee Baap Mehathaaree ||
किन ही राज जोबनु धन मिलखा किन ही बाप महतारी ॥
Some have regal power, youth, wealth and property; some have a father and a mother.
ਸਰਬ ਥੋਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਏ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥੨॥੩੪॥੫੭॥
Sarab Thhok Naanak Gur Paaeae Pooran Aas Hamaaree ||2||34||57||
सरब थोक नानक गुर पाए पूरन आस हमारी ॥२॥३४॥५७॥
I have obtained all things, O Nanak, from the Guru. My hopes have been fulfilled. ||2||34||57||

False is intoxication and pride in Maya.
ਧ੍ਰੋਹ ਮੋਹ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਪੁਰੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਗੋਪਾਲਹਿ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Dhhroh Moh Dhoor Kar Bapurae Sang Gopaalehi Jaan ||1|| Rehaao ||
ध्रोह मोह दूरि करि बपुरे संगि गोपालहि जानु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Get rid of your fraud and attachment, O wretched mortal, and remember that the Lord of the World is with you. ||1||Pause||
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਰਾਜ ਜੋਬਨ ਅਰੁ ਉਮਰੇ ਮੀਰ ਮਲਕ ਅਰੁ ਖਾਨ ॥
Mithhiaa Raaj Joban Ar Oumarae Meer Malak Ar Khaan ||
मिथिआ राज जोबन अरु उमरे मीर मलक अरु खान ॥
False are royal powers, youth, nobility, kings, rulers and aristocrats.
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਕਾਪਰ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਭੋਜਨ ਪਾਨ ॥੧॥
Mithhiaa Kaapar Sugandhh Chathuraaee Mithhiaa Bhojan Paan ||1||
मिथिआ कापर सुगंध चतुराई मिथिआ भोजन पान ॥१॥
False are the fine clothes, perfumes and clever tricks; false are the foods and drinks. ||1||
ਦੀਨ ਬੰਧਰੋ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਰੋ ਸੰਤਹ ਕੀ ਸਾਰਾਨ ॥
Dheen Bandhharo Dhaas Dhaasaro Santheh Kee Saaraan ||
दीन बंधरो दास दासरो संतह की सारान ॥
O Patron of the meek and the poor, I am the slave of Your slaves; I seek the Sanctuary of Your Saints.
ਮਾਂਗਨਿ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਹੋਇ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਿਲੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ॥੨॥੩੫॥੫੮॥
Maangan Maango Hoe Achinthaa Mil Naanak Kae Har Praan ||2||35||58||
मांगनि मांगउ होइ अचिंता मिलु नानक के हरि प्रान ॥२॥३५॥५८॥
I humbly ask, I beg of You, please relieve my anxiety; O Lord of Life, please unite Nanak with Yourself. ||2||35||58||

By himself, the mortal cannot accomplish anything.
ਅਨਿਕ ਕਾਜ ਅਨਿਕ ਧਾਵਰਤਾ ਉਰਝਿਓ ਆਨ ਜੰਜਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Anik Kaaj Anik Dhhaavarathaa Ourajhiou Aan Janjaaree ||1|| Rehaao ||
अनिक काज अनिक धावरता उरझिओ आन जंजारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
He runs around chasing all sorts of projects, engrossed in other entanglements. ||1||Pause||
ਦਿਉਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਕੇ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਸੰਗੀ ਊਹਾਂ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਹ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
Dhious Chaar Kae Dheesehi Sangee Oohaan Naahee Jeh Bhaaree ||
दिउस चारि के दीसहि संगी ऊहां नाही जह भारी ॥
His companions of these few days will not be there when he is in trouble.
