Second Mehl:
ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਇ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ॥
Keethaa Kiaa Saalaaheeai Karae Soe Saalaahi ||
कीता किआ सालाहीऐ करे सोइ सालाहि ॥
Why praise the created being? Praise the One who created all.
ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੀ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Naanak Eaekee Baaharaa Dhoojaa Dhaathaa Naahi ||
नानक एकी बाहरा दूजा दाता नाहि ॥
O Nanak, there is no other Giver, except the One Lord.
ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥
Karathaa So Saalaaheeai Jin Keethaa Aakaar ||
करता सो सालाहीऐ जिनि कीता आकारु ॥
Praise the Creator Lord, who created the creation.
ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿ ਸਭਸੈ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
Dhaathaa So Saalaaheeai J Sabhasai Dhae Aadhhaar ||
दाता सो सालाहीऐ जि सभसै दे आधारु ॥
Praise the Great Giver, who gives sustenence to all.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਭੰਡਾਰੁ ॥
Naanak Aap Sadheev Hai Pooraa Jis Bhanddaar ||
नानक आपि सदीव है पूरा जिसु भंडारु ॥
O Nanak, the treasure of the Eternal Lord is over-flowing.
ਵਡਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

वडा करि सालाहीऐ अंतु न पारावारु ॥२॥
Praise and honor the One, who has no end or limitation. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
Har Kaa Naam Nidhhaan Hai Saeviai Sukh Paaee ||
हरि का नामु निधानु है सेविऐ सुखु पाई ॥
The Name of the Lord is a treasure. Serving it, peace is obtained.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਉਚਰਾਂ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਂਈ ॥
Naam Niranjan Oucharaan Path Sio Ghar Jaanee ||
नामु निरंजनु उचरां पति सिउ घरि जांई ॥
I chant the Name of the Immaculate Lord, so that I may go home with honor.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
Guramukh Baanee Naam Hai Naam Ridhai Vasaaee ||
गुरमुखि बाणी नामु है नामु रिदै वसाई ॥
The Word of the Gurmukh is the Naam; I enshrine the Naam within my heart.
ਮਤਿ ਪੰਖੇਰੂ ਵਸਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਧਿਆਈ ॥
Math Pankhaeroo Vas Hoe Sathiguroo Dhhiaaeanaee ||
मति पंखेरू वसि होइ सतिगुरू धिआईं ॥
The bird of the intellect comes under one's control, by meditating on the True Guru.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੪॥
Naanak Aap Dhaeiaal Hoe Naamae Liv Laaee ||4||
नानक आपि दइआलु होइ नामे लिव लाई ॥४॥
O Nanak, if the Lord becomes merciful, the mortal lovingly tunes in to the Naam. ||4||

ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਕੈਸਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
This Sio Kaisaa Bolanaa J Aapae Jaanai Jaan ||
तिसु सिउ कैसा बोलणा जि आपे जाणै जाणु ॥
How can we speak of Him? Only He knows Himself.
ਚੀਰੀ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਨਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
Cheeree Jaa Kee Naa Firai Saahib So Paravaan ||
चीरी जा की ना फिरै साहिबु सो परवाणु ॥
His decree cannot be challenged; He is our Supreme Lord and Master.
ਚੀਰੀ ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਚਲਣਾ ਮੀਰ ਮਲਕ ਸਲਾਰ ॥
Cheeree Jis Kee Chalanaa Meer Malak Salaar ||
चीरी जिस की चलणा मीर मलक सलार ॥
By His Decree, even kings, nobles and commanders must step down.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਾਈ ਭਲੀ ਕਾਰ ॥
Jo This Bhaavai Naanakaa Saaee Bhalee Kaar ||
जो तिसु भावै नानका साई भली कार ॥
Whatever is pleasing to His Will, O Nanak, is a good deed.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਚੀਰੀ ਚਲਣਾ ਹਥਿ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Jinhaa Cheeree Chalanaa Hathh Thinhaa Kishh Naahi ||
जिन्हा चीरी चलणा हथि तिन्हा किछु नाहि ॥
By His Decree, we walk; nothing rests in our hands.
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਾ ਫੁਰਮਾਣੁ ਹੋਇ ਉਠੀ ਕਰਲੈ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
Saahib Kaa Furamaan Hoe Outhee Karalai Paahi ||
साहिब का फुरमाणु होइ उठी करलै पाहि ॥
When the Order comes from our Lord and Master, all must rise up and take to the road.
ਜੇਹਾ ਚੀਰੀ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤੇਹਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
Jaehaa Cheeree Likhiaa Thaehaa Hukam Kamaahi ||
जेहा चीरी लिखिआ तेहा हुकमु कमाहि ॥
As His Decree is issued, so is His Command obeyed.
ਘਲੇ ਆਵਹਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਦੇ ਉਠੀ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
Ghalae Aavehi Naanakaa Sadhae Outhee Jaahi ||1||
घले आवहि नानका सदे उठी जाहि ॥१॥
Those who are sent, come, O Nanak; when they are called back, they depart and go. ||1||

ਸਿਫਤਿ ਜਿਨਾ ਕਉ ਬਖਸੀਐ ਸੇਈ ਪੋਤੇਦਾਰ ॥
Sifath Jinaa Ko Bakhaseeai Saeee Pothaedhaar ||
सिफति जिना कउ बखसीऐ सेई पोतेदार ॥
Those whom the Lord blesses with His Praises, are the true keepers of the treasure.
ਕੁੰਜੀ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਦਿਤੀਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਮਿਲੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
Kunjee Jin Ko Dhitheeaa Thinhaa Milae Bhanddaar ||
कुंजी जिन कउ दितीआ तिन्हा मिले भंडार ॥
Those who are blessed with the key - they alone receive the treasure.
ਜਹ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ਹੂ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਕਲਹਿ ਤੇ ਕੀਅਹਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
Jeh Bhanddaaree Hoo Gun Nikalehi Thae Keeahi Paravaan ||
जह भंडारी हू गुण निकलहि ते कीअहि परवाणु ॥
That treasure, from which virtue wells up - that treasure is approved.
ਨਦਰਿ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਕਉ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
Nadhar Thinhaa Ko Naanakaa Naam Jinhaa Neesaan ||2||
नदरि तिन्हा कउ नानका नामु जिन्हा नीसाणु ॥२॥
Those who are blessed by His Glance of Grace, O Nanak, bear the Insignia of the Naam. ||2||

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਸੁਣਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
Naam Niranjan Niramalaa Suniai Sukh Hoee ||
नामु निरंजनु निरमला सुणिऐ सुखु होई ॥
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is immaculate and pure; hearing it, peace is obtained.
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈਐ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
Sun Sun Mann Vasaaeeai Boojhai Jan Koee ||
सुणि सुणि मंनि वसाईऐ बूझै जनु कोई ॥
Listening and hearing, It is enshrined in the mind; how rare is that humble being who realizes it.
ਬਹਦਿਆ ਉਠਦਿਆ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
Behadhiaa Outhadhiaa N Visarai Saachaa Sach Soee ||
बहदिआ उठदिआ न विसरै साचा सचु सोई ॥
Sitting down and standing up, I shall never forget Him, the Truest of the true.
ਭਗਤਾ ਕਉ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
Bhagathaa Ko Naam Adhhaar Hai Naamae Sukh Hoee ||
भगता कउ नाम अधारु है नामे सुखु होई ॥
His devotees have the Support of His Name; in His Name, they find peace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੫॥
Naanak Man Than Rav Rehiaa Guramukh Har Soee ||5||
नानक मनि तनि रवि रहिआ गुरमुखि हरि सोई ॥५॥
O Nanak, He permeates and pervades mind and body; He is the Lord, the Guru's Word. ||5||

Naanak Thuleeahi Thol Jae Jeeo Pishhai Paaeeai ||
नानक तुलीअहि तोल जे जीउ पिछै पाईऐ ॥
O Nanak, the weight is weighed out, when the soul is placed on the scale.
ਇਕਸੁ ਨ ਪੁਜਹਿ ਬੋਲ ਜੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ॥
Eikas N Pujehi Bol Jae Poorae Pooraa Kar Milai ||
इकसु न पुजहि बोल जे पूरे पूरा करि मिलै ॥
Nothing is equal to speaking of the One, who perfectly unites us with the Perfect Lord.
ਵਡਾ ਆਖਣੁ ਭਾਰਾ ਤੋਲੁ ॥
Vaddaa Aakhan Bhaaraa Thol ||
वडा आखणु भारा तोलु ॥
To call Him glorious and great carries such a heavy weight.
ਹੋਰ ਹਉਲੀ ਮਤੀ ਹਉਲੇ ਬੋਲ ॥
Hor Houlee Mathee Houlae Bol ||
होर हउली मती हउले बोल ॥
Other intellectualisms are lightweight; other words are lightweight as well.
ਧਰਤੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਰਬਤ ਭਾਰੁ ॥
Dhharathee Paanee Parabath Bhaar ||
धरती पाणी परबत भारु ॥
The weight of the earth, water and mountains
ਕਿਉ ਕੰਡੈ ਤੋਲੈ ਸੁਨਿਆਰੁ ॥
Kio Kanddai Tholai Suniaar ||
किउ कंडै तोलै सुनिआरु ॥
The weight of the earth, water and mountains
ਤੋਲਾ ਮਾਸਾ ਰਤਕ ਪਾਇ ॥
Tholaa Maasaa Rathak Paae ||
तोला मासा रतक पाइ ॥
What weights can balance the scale?
ਨਾਨਕ ਪੁਛਿਆ ਦੇਇ ਪੁਜਾਇ ॥
Naanak Pushhiaa Dhaee Pujaae ||
नानक पुछिआ देइ पुजाइ ॥
O Nanak, when questioned, the answer is given.
ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧਿਆ ਅੰਧੀ ਧਾਤੁ ॥
Moorakh Andhhiaa Andhhee Dhhaath ||
मूरख अंधिआ अंधी धातु ॥
The blind fool is running around, leading the blind.
ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਕਹਾਇਨਿ ਆਪੁ ॥੧॥
Kehi Kehi Kehan Kehaaein Aap ||1||
कहि कहि कहणु कहाइनि आपु ॥१॥
The more they say, the more they expose themselves. ||1||

ਆਖਣਿ ਅਉਖਾ ਸੁਨਣਿ ਅਉਖਾ ਆਖਿ ਨ ਜਾਪੀ ਆਖਿ ॥
Aakhan Aoukhaa Sunan Aoukhaa Aakh N Jaapee Aakh ||
आखणि अउखा सुनणि अउखा आखि न जापी आखि ॥
It is difficult to chant it; it is difficult to listen to it. It cannot be chanted with the mouth.
ਇਕਿ ਆਖਿ ਆਖਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਭਾਖਹਿ ਅਰਧ ਉਰਧ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
Eik Aakh Aakhehi Sabadh Bhaakhehi Aradhh Ouradhh Dhin Raath ||
इकि आखि आखहि सबदु भाखहि अरध उरध दिनु राति ॥
Some speak with their mouths and chant the Word of the Shabad - the low and the high, day and night.
ਜੇ ਕਿਹੁ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਕਿਹੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਜਾਪੈ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਤਿ ॥
Jae Kihu Hoe Th Kihu Dhisai Jaapai Roop N Jaath ||
जे किहु होइ त किहु दिसै जापै रूपु न जाति ॥
If He were something, then He would be visible. His form and state cannot be seen.
ਸਭਿ ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਘਟ ਅਉਘਟ ਘਟ ਥਾਪਿ ॥
Sabh Kaaran Karathaa Karae Ghatt Aoughatt Ghatt Thhaap ||
सभि कारण करता करे घट अउघट घट थापि ॥
The Creator Lord does all deeds; He is established in the hearts of the high and the low.
