Dhukh Sukh Dhooo Sam Kar Jaanai Buraa Bhalaa Sansaar ||
दुख सुख दोऊ सम करि जानै बुरा भला संसार ॥
He sees pleasure and pain as both the same, along with good and bad in the world.

सुधि बुधि सुरति नामि हरि पाईऐ सतसंगति गुर पिआर ॥२॥
Wisdom, understanding and awareness are found in the Name of the Lord. In the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, embrace love for the Guru. ||2||
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
Ahinis Laahaa Har Naam Paraapath Gur Dhaathaa Dhaevanehaar ||
अहिनिसि लाहा हरि नामु परापति गुरु दाता देवणहारु ॥
Day and night, profit is obtained through the Lord's Name. The Guru, the Giver, has given this gift.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਿਖ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
Guramukh Sikh Soee Jan Paaeae Jis No Nadhar Karae Karathaar ||3||
गुरमुखि सिख सोई जनु पाए जिस नो नदरि करे करतारु ॥३॥
That Sikh who becomes Gurmukh obtains it. The Creator blesses him with His Glance of Grace. ||3||

The body is a mansion, a temple, the home of the Lord; He has infused His Infinite Light into it.

Know that the creation was formed through air and water;
ਕਾਇਆਂ ਅਗਨਿ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਭਰਾਂਤਿ ॥

काइआं अगनि करे निभरांति ॥
Have no doubt that the body was made through fire.
ਜੰਮਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੇ ਥਾਉ ॥
Janmehi Jeea Jaanai Jae Thhaao ||
जमहि जीअ जाणै जे थाउ ॥
And if you know where the soul comes from,
ਸੁਰਤਾ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥

You shall be known as a wise religious scholar. ||1||

Without seeing Him, we cannot say anything about Him.

Who knows what sort of Name is chanted,

कोई जाणै कैसा नाउ ॥२॥
In the heart, without the tongue? ||2||
ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਭਰਾਂਤਿ ॥
Kathhanee Badhanee Rehai Nibharaanth ||
कथनी बदनी रहै निभरांति ॥
Undoubtedly, words fail me.
ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
So Boojhai Hovai Jis Dhaath ||
सो बूझै होवै जिसु दाति ॥
He alone understands, who is blessed.
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
Ahinis Anthar Rehai Liv Laae ||
अहिनिसि अंतरि रहै लिव लाइ ॥
Day and night, deep within, he remains lovingly attuned to the Lord.
ਸੋਈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਜਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥

सोई पुरखु जि सचि समाइ ॥३॥
He is the true person, who is merged in the True Lord. ||3||
ਜਾਤਿ ਕੁਲੀਨੁ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜੇ ਹੋਇ ॥
Jaath Kuleen Saevak Jae Hoe ||
जाति कुलीनु सेवकु जे होइ ॥
If someone of high social standing becomes a selfless servant,
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਹਹੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
Thaa Kaa Kehanaa Kehahu N Koe ||
ता का कहणा कहहु न कोइ ॥
Then his praises cannot even be expressed.
ਵਿਚਿ ਸਨਾਤੀ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Vich Sanaathanaee Saevak Hoe ||
विचि सनातीं सेवकु होइ ॥
And if someone from a low social class becomes a selfless servant,
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਣ੍ਹੀਆ ਪਹਿਰੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੧॥੬॥

The pain of separation - this is the hungry pain I feel.

इकु दुखु सकतवार जमदूत ॥
Another pain is the attack of the Messenger of Death.

Another pain is the disease consuming my body.

The pain persists, and the body continues to suffer.
ਐਸਾ ਦਾਰੂ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਬੀਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ऐसा दारू लगै न बीर ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Forgetting his Lord and Master, the mortal enjoys sensual pleasures;
ਤਾਂ ਤਨਿ ਉਠਿ ਖਲੋਏ ਰੋਗ ॥
Thaan Than Outh Khaloeae Rog ||
तां तनि उठि खलोए रोग ॥
Then, disease rises up in his body.
ਮਨ ਅੰਧੇ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥
Man Andhhae Ko Milai Sajaae ||
मन अंधे कउ मिलै सजाइ ॥
The blind mortal receives his punishment.

चंदन का फलु चंदन वासु ॥
The value of sandalwood lies in its fragrance.
ਮਾਣਸ ਕਾ ਫਲੁ ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਸੁ ॥
Maanas Kaa Fal Ghatt Mehi Saas ||
माणस का फलु घट महि सासु ॥
The value of the human lasts only as long as the breath in the body.
ਸਾਸਿ ਗਇਐ ਕਾਇਆ ਢਲਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
Saas Gaeiai Kaaeiaa Dtal Paae ||
सासि गइऐ काइआ ढलि पाइ ॥
When the breath is taken away, the body crumbles into dust.
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਪਾਛੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥੩॥
Thaa Kai Paashhai Koe N Khaae ||3||
ता कै पाछै कोइ न खाइ ॥३॥
After that, no one takes any food. ||3||
ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੰਸੁ ॥
Kanchan Kaaeiaa Niramal Hans ||
कंचन काइआ निरमल हंसु ॥
The mortal's body is golden, and the soul-swan is immaculate and pure,
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਅੰਸੁ ॥
Jis Mehi Naam Niranjan Ans ||
जिसु महि नामु निरंजन अंसु ॥
If even a tiny particle of the Immaculate Naam is within.
ਦੂਖ ਰੋਗ ਸਭਿ ਗਇਆ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
Dhookh Rog Sabh Gaeiaa Gavaae ||
दूख रोग सभि गइआ गवाइ ॥
All pain and disease are eradicated.
ਨਾਨਕ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੪॥੨॥੭॥

Pain is the poison. The Lord's Name is the antidote.
ਸਿਲਾ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਪੀਸਣੁ ਹਥਿ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
Silaa Santhokh Peesan Hathh Dhaan ||
सिला संतोख पीसणु हथि दानु ॥
Grind it up in the mortar of contentment, with the pestle of charitable giving.
