Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਜੀਵਨਿ ॥
Har Har Santh Janaa Kee Jeevan ||
हरि हरि संत जना की जीवनि ॥
The Lord, Har, Har, is the life of the humble Saints.
ਬਿਖੈ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਨਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Bikhai Ras Bhog Anmrith Sukh Saagar Raam Naam Ras Peevan ||1|| Rehaao ||
बिखै रस भोग अम्रित सुख सागर राम नाम रसु पीवनि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Instead of enjoying corrupt pleasures, they drink in the Ambrosial Essence of the Name of the Lord, the Ocean of Peace. ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਚਨਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਰਤਨਾ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸੀਵਨਿ ॥
Sanchan Raam Naam Dhhan Rathanaa Man Than Bheethar Seevan ||
संचनि राम नाम धनु रतना मन तन भीतरि सीवनि ॥
They gather up the priceless wealth of the Lord's Name, and weave it into the fabric of their mind and body.
ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗ ਰਾਂਗ ਭਏ ਮਨ ਲਾਲਾ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਖੀਵਨਿ ॥੧॥
Har Rang Raang Bheae Man Laalaa Raam Naam Ras Kheevan ||1||
हरि रंग रांग भए मन लाला राम नाम रस खीवनि ॥१॥
Imbued with the Lord's Love, their minds are dyed in the deep crimson color of devotional love; they are intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord's Name. ||1||
ਜਿਉ ਮੀਨਾ ਜਲ ਸਿਉ ਉਰਝਾਨੋ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਲੀਵਨਿ ॥
Jio Meenaa Jal Sio Ourajhaano Raam Naam Sang Leevan ||
जिउ मीना जल सिउ उरझानो राम नाम संगि लीवनि ॥
As the fish is immersed in water, they are absorbed in the Lord's Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਕੀ ਨਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਬੂੰਦ ਪਾਨ ਸੁਖ ਥੀਵਨਿ ॥੨॥੬੮॥੯੧॥
Naanak Santh Chaathrik Kee Niaaee Har Boondh Paan Sukh Thheevan ||2||68||91||
नानक संत चात्रिक की निआई हरि बूंद पान सुख थीवनि ॥२॥६८॥९१॥
O Nanak, the Saints are like the rainbirds; they are comforted, drinking in the drops of the Lord's Name. ||2||68||91||

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮਹੀਨ ਬੇਤਾਲ ॥
Har Kae Naameheen Baethaal ||
हरि के नामहीन बेताल ॥
Without the Name of the Lord, the mortal is a ghost.
ਜੇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਤੇਤਾ ਸਭਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jaethaa Karan Karaavan Thaethaa Sabh Bandhhan Janjaal ||1|| Rehaao ||
जेता करन करावन तेता सभि बंधन जंजाल ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
All the actions he commits are just shackles and bonds. ||1||Pause||
ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਤ ਅਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕਾਟੈ ਕਾਲ ॥
Bin Prabh Saev Karath An Saevaa Birathhaa Kaattai Kaal ||
बिनु प्रभ सेव करत अन सेवा बिरथा काटै काल ॥
Without serving God, one who serves another wastes his time uselessly.
ਜਬ ਜਮੁ ਆਇ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਤਬ ਤੁਮਰੋ ਕਉਨੁ ਹਵਾਲ ॥੧॥
Jab Jam Aae Sanghaarai Praanee Thab Thumaro Koun Havaal ||1||
जब जमु आइ संघारै प्रानी तब तुमरो कउनु हवाल ॥१॥
When the Messenger of Death comes to kill you, O mortal, what will your condition be then? ||1||
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਦਾਸ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥
Raakh Laehu Dhaas Apunae Ko Sadhaa Sadhaa Kirapaal ||
राखि लेहु दास अपुने कउ सदा सदा किरपाल ॥
Please protect Your slave, O Eternally Merciful Lord.
ਸੁਖ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਧਨ ਮਾਲ ॥੨॥੬੯॥੯੨॥
Sukh Nidhhaan Naanak Prabh Maeraa Saadhhasang Dhhan Maal ||2||69||92||
सुख निधान नानक प्रभु मेरा साधसंगि धन माल ॥२॥६९॥९२॥
O Nanak, my God is the Treasure of Peace; He is the wealth and property of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||2||69||92||

मनि तनि राम को बिउहारु ॥
My mind and body deal only in the Lord.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਨ ਗੀਧੇ ਪੋਹਤ ਨਹ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Praem Bhagath Gun Gaavan Geedhhae Pohath Neh Sansaar ||1|| Rehaao ||
प्रेम भगति गुन गावन गीधे पोहत नह संसारु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Imbued with loving devotional worship, I sing His Glorious Praises; I am not affected by worldly affairs. ||1||Pause||
ਸ੍ਰਵਣੀ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਇਹੁ ਸਾਧ ਕੋ ਆਚਾਰੁ ॥
Sravanee Keerathan Simaran Suaamee Eihu Saadhh Ko Aachaar ||
स्रवणी कीरतनु सिमरनु सुआमी इहु साध को आचारु ॥
This is the way of life of the Holy Saint: he listens to the Kirtan, the Praises of his Lord and Master, and meditates in remembrance on Him.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਅਸਥਿਤਿ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਕੋ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
Charan Kamal Asathhith Ridh Anthar Poojaa Praan Ko Aadhhaar ||1||
चरन कमल असथिति रिद अंतरि पूजा प्रान को आधारु ॥१॥
He implants the Lord's Lotus Feet deep within his heart; worship of the Lord is the support of his breath of life. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਧਾਰੁ ॥
Prabh Dheen Dhaeiaal Sunahu Baenanthee Kirapaa Apanee Dhhaar ||
प्रभ दीन दइआल सुनहु बेनंती किरपा अपनी धारु ॥
O God, Merciful to the meek, please hear my prayer, and shower Your Blessings upon me.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਉਚਰਉ ਨਿਤ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥੭੦॥੯੩॥
Naam Nidhhaan Oucharo Nith Rasanaa Naanak Sadh Balihaar ||2||70||93||
नामु निधानु उचरउ नित रसना नानक सद बलिहारु ॥२॥७०॥९३॥
I continually chant the treasure of the Naam with my tongue; Nanak is forever a sacrifice. ||2||70||93||

Without the Name of the Lord, his intellect is shallow.
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਹਿ ਸਿਰੀਧਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮਿਲਤ ਅੰਧ ਦੁਖ ਘੋਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Simarath Naahi Sireedhhar Thaakur Milath Andhh Dhukh Ghoree ||1|| Rehaao ||
सिमरत नाहि सिरीधर ठाकुर मिलत अंध दुख घोरी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
He does not meditate in remembrance on the Lord, his Lord and Master; the blind fool suffers in terrible agony. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਭੇਖ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਰੀ ॥
Har Kae Naam Sio Preeth N Laagee Anik Bhaekh Bahu Joree ||
हरि के नाम सिउ प्रीति न लागी अनिक भेख बहु जोरी ॥
He does not embrace love for the Name of the Lord; he is totally attached to various religious robes.
ਤੂਟਤ ਬਾਰ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਜਿਉ ਗਾਗਰਿ ਜਲ ਫੋਰੀ ॥੧॥
Thoottath Baar N Laagai Thaa Ko Jio Gaagar Jal Foree ||1||
तूटत बार न लागै ता कउ जिउ गागरि जल फोरी ॥१॥
His attachments are shattered in an instant; when the pitcher is broken, the water runs out. ||1||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਸੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਮਨੁ ਖਚਿਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਖੋਰੀ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Bhagath Ras Dheejai Man Khachith Praem Ras Khoree ||
करि किरपा भगति रसु दीजै मनु खचित प्रेम रस खोरी ॥
Please bless me, that I may worship You in loving devotion. My mind is absorbed and intoxicated with Your Delicious Love.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਨ ਨ ਹੋਰੀ ॥੨॥੭੧॥੯੪॥
Naanak Dhaas Thaeree Saranaaee Prabh Bin Aan N Horee ||2||71||94||
नानक दास तेरी सरणाई प्रभ बिनु आन न होरी ॥२॥७१॥९४॥
Nanak, Your slave, has entered Your Sanctuary; without God, there is no other at all. ||2||71||94||

In my mind, I think about that moment,
ਹੋਇ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਸਾਜਨ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Hoe Eikathr Milahu Santh Saajan Gun Gobindh Nith Gaahi ||1|| Rehaao ||
होइ इकत्र मिलहु संत साजन गुण गोबिंद नित गाहि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
When I join the Gathering of the Friendly Saints, constantly singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe. ||1||Pause||
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਜੇਤੇ ਕਾਮ ਕਰੀਅਹਿ ਤੇਤੇ ਬਿਰਥੇ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥
Bin Har Bhajan Jaethae Kaam Kareeahi Thaethae Birathhae Jaanhi ||
बिनु हरि भजन जेते काम करीअहि तेते बिरथे जांहि ॥
Without vibrating and meditating on the Lord, whatever deeds you do will be useless.
ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ਮਨਿ ਮੀਠੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਸਰ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
Pooran Paramaanandh Man Meetho This Bin Dhoosar Naahi ||1||
पूरन परमानंद मनि मीठो तिसु बिनु दूसर नाहि ॥१॥
The Perfect Embodiment of Supreme Bliss is so sweet to my mind. Without Him, there is no other at all. ||1||
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਰਮ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਧਨ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਕਛੂਐ ਲਾਹਿ ॥
Jap Thap Sanjam Karam Sukh Saadhhan Thul N Kashhooai Laahi ||
जप तप संजम करम सुख साधन तुलि न कछूऐ लाहि ॥
Chanting, deep meditation, austere self-discipline, good deeds and other techniques to being peace - they are not equal to even a tiny bit of the Lord's Name.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਓ ਚਰਨਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੨॥੭੨॥੯੫॥

चरन कमल नानक मनु बेधिओ चरनह संगि समाहि ॥२॥७२॥९५॥
Nanak's mind is pierced through by the Lotus Feet of the Lord; it is absorbed in His Lotus Feet. ||2||72||95||

ਆਗੈ ਕੁਸਲ ਪਾਛੈ ਖੇਮ ਸੂਖਾ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

आगै कुसल पाछै खेम सूखा सिमरत नामु सुआमी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
I find happiness in the world hereafter, and peace and pleasure in this world, meditating in remembrance on the Name of my Lord and Master. ||1||Pause||
