Garrih Kaaeiaa Seegaar Bahu Bhaanth Banaaee ||
गड़्हि काइआ सीगार बहु भांति बणाई ॥
The fortress of the body has been decorated and adorned in so many ways.
ਰੰਗ ਪਰੰਗ ਕਤੀਫਿਆ ਪਹਿਰਹਿ ਧਰ ਮਾਈ ॥
Rang Parang Katheefiaa Pehirehi Dhhar Maaee ||
रंग परंग कतीफिआ पहिरहि धर माई ॥
The wealthy wear beautiful silk robes of various colors.
ਲਾਲ ਸੁਪੇਦ ਦੁਲੀਚਿਆ ਬਹੁ ਸਭਾ ਬਣਾਈ ॥
Laal Supaedh Dhuleechiaa Bahu Sabhaa Banaaee ||
लाल सुपेद दुलीचिआ बहु सभा बणाई ॥
They hold elegant and beautiful courts, on red and white carpets.
ਦੁਖੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਭੋਗਣਾ ਗਰਬੈ ਗਰਬਾਈ ॥
Dhukh Khaanaa Dhukh Bhoganaa Garabai Garabaaee ||
दुखु खाणा दुखु भोगणा गरबै गरबाई ॥
But they eat in pain, and in pain they seek pleasure; they are very proud of their pride.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਅੰਤਿ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਈ ॥੨੪॥

नानक नामु न चेतिओ अंति लए छडाई ॥२४॥
O Nanak, the mortal does not even think of the Name, which shall deliver him in the end. ||24||

ਸਹਜੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਸੁਤੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
Sehajae Sukh Suthee Sabadh Samaae ||
सहजे सुखि सुती सबदि समाइ ॥
She sleeps in intuitive peace and poise, absorbed in the Word of the Shabad.
ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਈ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਇ ॥
Aapae Prabh Mael Lee Gal Laae ||
आपे प्रभि मेलि लई गलि लाइ ॥
God hugs her close in His Embrace, and merges her into Himself.
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਚੂਕੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
Dhubidhhaa Chookee Sehaj Subhaae ||
दुबिधा चूकी सहजि सुभाइ ॥
Duality is eradicated with intuitive ease.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
Anthar Naam Vasiaa Man Aae ||
अंतरि नामु वसिआ मनि आइ ॥
The Naam comes to abide in her mind.
ਸੇ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਏ ਜਿ ਭੰਨਿ ਘੜਾਇ ॥
Sae Kanth Laaeae J Bhann Gharraae ||
से कंठि लाए जि भंनि घड़ाइ ॥
He hugs close in His Embrace those who shatter and reform their beings.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੇ ਹੁਣਿ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
Naanak Jo Dhhur Milae Sae Hun Aan Milaae ||1||
नानक जो धुरि मिले से हुणि आणि मिलाइ ॥१॥
O Nanak, those who are predestined to meet Him, come and meet Him now. ||1||

Jinhee Naam Visaariaa Kiaa Jap Jaapehi Hor ||
जिन्ही नामु विसारिआ किआ जपु जापहि होरि ॥
Those who forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord - so what if they chant other chants?
ਬਿਸਟਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੀਟ ਸੇ ਮੁਠੇ ਧੰਧੈ ਚੋਰਿ ॥
Bisattaa Andhar Keett Sae Muthae Dhhandhhai Chor ||
बिसटा अंदरि कीट से मुठे धंधै चोरि ॥
They are maggots in manure, plundered by the thief of worldly entanglements.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਝੂਠੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਹੋਰਿ ॥੨॥

नानक नामु न वीसरै झूठे लालच होरि ॥२॥
O Nanak, never forget the Naam; greed for anything else is false. ||2||

ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਜਗਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
Naam Salaahan Naam Mann Asathhir Jag Soee ||
नामु सलाहनि नामु मंनि असथिरु जगि सोई ॥
Those who praise the Naam, and believe in the Naam, are eternally stable in this world.
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ॥
Hiradhai Har Har Chithavai Dhoojaa Nehee Koee ||
हिरदै हरि हरि चितवै दूजा नही कोई ॥
Within their hearts, they dwell on the Lord, and nothing else at all.
ਰੋਮਿ ਰੋਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਚਰੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
Rom Rom Har Oucharai Khin Khin Har Soee ||
रोमि रोमि हरि उचरै खिनु खिनु हरि सोई ॥
With each and every hair, they chant the Lord's Name, each and every instant, the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਕਾਰਥਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਈ ॥
Guramukh Janam Sakaarathhaa Niramal Mal Khoee ||
गुरमुखि जनमु सकारथा निरमलु मलु खोई ॥
The birth of the Gurmukh is fruitful and certified; pure and unstained, his filth is washed away.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਵਦਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਅਮਰਾ ਪਦੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੨੫॥
Naanak Jeevadhaa Purakh Dhhiaaeiaa Amaraa Padh Hoee ||25||
नानक जीवदा पुरखु धिआइआ अमरा पदु होई ॥२५॥
O Nanak, meditating on the Lord of eternal life, the status of immortality is obtained. ||25||

ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਹੋਰਿ ॥

जिनी नामु विसारिआ बहु करम कमावहि होरि ॥
Those who forget the Naam and do other things,
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਜਿਉ ਸੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਉਪਰਿ ਚੋਰ ॥੧॥
Naanak Jam Pur Badhhae Maareeahi Jio Sannhee Oupar Chor ||1||
नानक जम पुरि बधे मारीअहि जिउ संन्ही उपरि चोर ॥१॥
O Nanak, will be bound and gagged and beaten in the City of Death, like the thief caught red-handed. ||1||

ਧਰਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੜੀ ਆਕਾਸੁ ਸੁਹੰਦਾ ਜਪੰਦਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
Dhharath Suhaavarree Aakaas Suhandhaa Japandhiaa Har Naao ||
धरति सुहावड़ी आकासु सुहंदा जपंदिआ हरि नाउ ॥
The earth is beauteous, and the sky is lovely, chanting the Name of the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਤਨ ਖਾਵਹਿ ਕਾਉ ॥੨॥
Naanak Naam Vihooniaa Thinh Than Khaavehi Kaao ||2||
नानक नाम विहूणिआ तिन्ह तन खावहि काउ ॥२॥
O Nanak, those who lack the Naam - their carcasses are eaten by the crows. ||2||

Naam Salaahan Bhaao Kar Nij Mehalee Vaasaa ||
नामु सलाहनि भाउ करि निज महली वासा ॥
Those who lovingly praise the Naam, and dwell in the mansion of the self deep within,
ਓਇ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਆਵਨੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਹਿ ਨ ਬਿਨਾਸਾ ॥
Oue Baahurr Jon N Aavanee Fir Hohi N Binaasaa ||
ओइ बाहुड़ि जोनि न आवनी फिरि होहि न बिनासा ॥
Do not enter into reincarnation ever again; they shall never be destroyed.
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਭ ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸਾ ॥
Har Saethee Rang Rav Rehae Sabh Saas Giraasaa ||
हरि सेती रंगि रवि रहे सभ सास गिरासा ॥
They remain immersed and absorbed in the love of the Lord, with every breath and morsel of food.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥
Har Kaa Rang Kadhae N Outharai Guramukh Paragaasaa ||
हरि का रंगु कदे न उतरै गुरमुखि परगासा ॥
The color of the Lord's Love never fades away; the Gurmukhs are enlightened.
ਓਇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਮੇਲਿਅਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਸਾ ॥੨੬॥
Oue Kirapaa Kar Kai Maelian Naanak Har Paasaa ||26||
ओइ किरपा करि कै मेलिअनु नानक हरि पासा ॥२६॥
Granting His Grace, He unites them with Himself; O Nanak, the Lord keeps them by His side. ||26||

ਜਿਚਰੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਹਰੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
Jichar Eihu Man Leharee Vich Hai Houmai Bahuth Ahankaar ||
जिचरु इहु मनु लहरी विचि है हउमै बहुतु अहंकारु ॥
As long as his mind is disturbed by waves, he is caught in ego and egotistical pride.
ਸਬਦੈ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
Sabadhai Saadh N Aavee Naam N Lagai Piaar ||
सबदै सादु न आवई नामि न लगै पिआरु ॥
He does not find the taste of the Shabad, and he does not embrace love for the Name.
ਸੇਵਾ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਵਈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਖਪਿ ਖਪਿ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
Saevaa Thhaae N Pavee This Kee Khap Khap Hoe Khuaar ||
सेवा थाइ न पवई तिस की खपि खपि होइ खुआरु ॥
His service is not accepted; worrying and worrying, he wastes away in misery.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸੋਈ ਆਖੀਐ ਜੋ ਸਿਰੁ ਧਰੇ ਉਤਾਰਿ ॥
Naanak Saevak Soee Aakheeai Jo Sir Dhharae Outhaar ||
नानक सेवकु सोई आखीऐ जो सिरु धरे उतारि ॥
O Nanak, he alone is called a selfless servant, who cuts off his head, and offers it to the Lord.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਲਏ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
Sathigur Kaa Bhaanaa Mann Leae Sabadh Rakhai Our Dhhaar ||1||
सतिगुर का भाणा मंनि लए सबदु रखै उर धारि ॥१॥
He accepts the Will of the True Guru, and enshrines the Shabad within his heart. ||1||

ਸੋ ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਜੋ ਖਸਮੈ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
So Jap Thap Saevaa Chaakaree Jo Khasamai Bhaavai ||
सो जपु तपु सेवा चाकरी जो खसमै भावै ॥
That is chanting and meditation, work and selfless service, which is pleasing to our Lord and Master.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਆਪਤੁ ਗਵਾਵੈ ॥
Aapae Bakhasae Mael Leae Aapath Gavaavai ||
आपे बखसे मेलि लए आपतु गवावै ॥
The Lord Himself forgives, and takes away self-conceit, and unites the mortals with Himself.
ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵੀਛੁੜੈ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥
Miliaa Kadhae N Veeshhurrai Jothee Joth Milaavai ||
मिलिआ कदे न वीछुड़ै जोती जोति मिलावै ॥
United with the Lord, the mortal is never separated again; his light merges into the Light.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸੋ ਬੁਝਸੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
Naanak Gur Parasaadhee So Bujhasee Jis Aap Bujhaavai ||2||
नानक गुर परसादी सो बुझसी जिसु आपि बुझावै ॥२॥
O Nanak, by Guru's Grace, the mortal understands, when the Lord allows him to understand. ||2||

सभु को लेखे विचि है मनमुखु अहंकारी ॥
All are held accountable, even the egotistical self-willed manmukhs.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਚੇਤਈ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੀ ॥
Har Naam Kadhae N Chaethee Jamakaal Sir Maaree ||
हरि नामु कदे न चेतई जमकालु सिरि मारी ॥
They never even think of the Name of the Lord; the Messenger of Death shall hit them on their heads.
