किउ न अराधहु मिलि करि साधहु घरी मुहतक बेला आई ॥
Why do you not worship and adore Him? Join together with the Holy Saints; any instant, your time shall come.

अरथु दरबु सभु जो किछु दीसै संगि न कछहू जाई ॥
All your property and wealth, and all that you see - none of it will go along with you.

पूछउ संत मेरो ठाकुरु कैसा ॥
I ask the Saints, what is my Lord and Master like?
ਹੀਉ ਅਰਾਪਉਂ ਦੇਹੁ ਸਦੇਸਾ ॥
Hanaeeo Araapoun Dhaehu Sadhaesaa ||
हींउ अरापउं देहु सदेसा ॥
I offer my heart, to one who brings me news of Him.
ਦੇਹੁ ਸਦੇਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਕੈਸਾ ਕਹ ਮੋਹਨ ਪਰਵੇਸਾ ॥
Dhaehu Sadhaesaa Prabh Jeeo Kaisaa Keh Mohan Paravaesaa ||
देहु सदेसा प्रभ जीउ कैसा कह मोहन परवेसा ॥
Give me news of my Dear God; where does the Enticer live?
ਅੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਈ ਥਾਨ ਥਾਨੰਤਰ ਦੇਸਾ ॥
Ang Ang Sukhadhaaee Pooran Brehamaaee Thhaan Thhaananthar Dhaesaa ||
अंग अंग सुखदाई पूरन ब्रहमाई थान थानंतर देसा ॥
He is the Giver of peace to life and limb; God is totally permeating all places, interspaces and countries.
ਬੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜੁਗਤਾ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਜੈਸਾ ॥
Bandhhan Thae Mukathaa Ghatt Ghatt Jugathaa Kehi N Sako Har Jaisaa ||
बंधन ते मुकता घटि घटि जुगता कहि न सकउ हरि जैसा ॥
He is liberated from bondage, joined to each and every heart. I cannot say what the Lord is like.
ਦੇਖਿ ਚਰਿਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਪੂਛੈ ਦੀਨੁ ਮੇਰੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕੈਸਾ ॥੩॥
Dhaekh Charith Naanak Man Mohiou Pooshhai Dheen Maero Thaakur Kaisaa ||3||
देखि चरित नानक मनु मोहिओ पूछै दीनु मेरो ठाकुरु कैसा ॥३॥
Gazing upon His wondrous play, O Nanak, my mind is fascinated. I humbly ask, what is my Lord and Master like? ||3||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Apunae Pehi Aaeiaa ||
करि किरपा अपुने पहि आइआ ॥
In His Kindness, He has come to His humble servant.
ਧੰਨਿ ਸੁ ਰਿਦਾ ਜਿਹ ਚਰਨ ਬਸਾਇਆ ॥
Dhhann S Ridhaa Jih Charan Basaaeiaa ||
धंनि सु रिदा जिह चरन बसाइआ ॥
Blessed is that heart, in which the Lord's Feet are enshrined.
ਚਰਨ ਬਸਾਇਆ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗਾਇਆ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
Charan Basaaeiaa Santh Sangaaeiaa Agiaan Andhhaer Gavaaeiaa ||
चरन बसाइआ संत संगाइआ अगिआन अंधेरु गवाइआ ॥
His Feet are enshrined within, in the Society of the Saints; the darkness of ignorance is dispelled.
ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਉਲਾਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲੋੜੀਦਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Bhaeiaa Pragaas Ridhai Oulaas Prabh Lorreedhaa Paaeiaa ||
भइआ प्रगासु रिदै उलासु प्रभु लोड़ीदा पाइआ ॥
The heart is enlightened and illumined and enraptured; God has been found.
ਦੁਖੁ ਨਾਠਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਵੂਠਾ ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਸਹਜਾਇਆ ॥
Dhukh Naathaa Sukh Ghar Mehi Voothaa Mehaa Anandh Sehajaaeiaa ||
दुखु नाठा सुखु घर महि वूठा महा अनंद सहजाइआ ॥
Pain is gone, and peace has come to my house. The ultimate intuitive peace prevails.

गुरु कुंजी पाहू निवलु मनु कोठा तनु छति ॥
The key of the Guru opens the lock of attachment, in the house of the mind, under the roof of the body.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਤਾਕੁ ਨ ਉਘੜੈ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹਥਿ ॥੧॥

नानक गुर बिनु मन का ताकु न उघड़ै अवर न कुंजी हथि ॥१॥

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਰਾਗੀ ਨਾਦੀ ਬੇਦਿ ॥

न भीजै रागी नादी बेदि ॥
He is not won over by music, songs or the Vedas.
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜੋਗਿ ॥
N Bheejai Surathee Giaanee Jog ||
न भीजै सुरती गिआनी जोगि ॥
He is not won over by intuitive wisdom, meditation or Yoga.
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੋਗੀ ਕੀਤੈ ਰੋਜਿ ॥
N Bheejai Sogee Keethai Roj ||
न भीजै सोगी कीतै रोजि ॥
He is not won over by feeling sad and depressed forever.
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਰੂਪੀ ਮਾਲੀ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
N Bheejai Roopanaee Maalanaee Rang ||
न भीजै रूपीं मालीं रंगि ॥
He is not won over by beauty, wealth and pleasures.
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਭਵਿਐ ਨੰਗਿ ॥
N Bheejai Theerathh Bhaviai Nang ||
न भीजै तीरथि भविऐ नंगि ॥
He is not won over by wandering naked at sacred shrines.
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਦਾਤੀ ਕੀਤੈ ਪੁੰਨਿ ॥
N Bheejai Dhaathanaee Keethai Punn ||
न भीजै दातीं कीतै पुंनि ॥
He is not won over by giving donations in charity.
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਬੈਠਿਆ ਸੁੰਨਿ ॥
N Bheejai Baahar Baithiaa Sunn ||
न भीजै बाहरि बैठिआ सुंनि ॥
He is not won over by living alone in the wilderness.
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਭੇੜਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਭਿੜਿ ਸੂਰ ॥
N Bheejai Bhaerr Marehi Bhirr Soor ||
न भीजै भेड़ि मरहि भिड़ि सूर ॥
He is not won over by fighting and dying as a warrior in battle.
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਕੇਤੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਧੂੜ ॥
N Bheejai Kaethae Hovehi Dhhoorr ||
न भीजै केते होवहि धूड़ ॥
He is not won over by becoming the dust of the masses.
ਲੇਖਾ ਲਿਖੀਐ ਮਨ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
Laekhaa Likheeai Man Kai Bhaae ||
लेखा लिखीऐ मन कै भाइ ॥
The account is written of the loves of the mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥
Naanak Bheejai Saachai Naae ||2||
नानक भीजै साचै नाइ ॥२॥
O Nanak, the Lord is won over only by His Name. ||2||

ਨਵ ਛਿਅ ਖਟ ਕਾ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
Nav Shhia Khatt Kaa Karae Beechaar ||
नव छिअ खट का करे बीचारु ॥
You may study the nine grammars, the six Shaastras and the six divions of the Vedas.
ਨਿਸਿ ਦਿਨ ਉਚਰੈ ਭਾਰ ਅਠਾਰ ॥
Nis Dhin Oucharai Bhaar Athaar ||
निसि दिन उचरै भार अठार ॥
You may recite the Mahaabhaarata.
ਤਿਨਿ ਭੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੋਹਿ ॥
Thin Bhee Anth N Paaeiaa Thohi ||
तिनि भी अंतु न पाइआ तोहि ॥
Even these cannot find the limits of the Lord.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਉ ਹੋਇ ॥
Naam Bihoon Mukath Kio Hoe ||
नाम बिहूण मुकति किउ होइ ॥
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how can anyone be liberated?
ਨਾਭਿ ਵਸਤ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
Naabh Vasath Brehamai Anth N Jaaniaa ||
नाभि वसत ब्रहमै अंतु न जाणिआ ॥
Brahma, in the lotus of the navel, does not know the limits of God.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
Guramukh Naanak Naam Pashhaaniaa ||3||
गुरमुखि नानक नामु पछाणिआ ॥३॥
The Gurmukh, O Nanak, realizes the Naam. ||3||

आपे आपि निरंजना जिनि आपु उपाइआ ॥
The Immaculate Lord Himself, by Himself, created Himself.
ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਓਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
Aapae Khael Rachaaeioun Sabh Jagath Sabaaeiaa ||
आपे खेलु रचाइओनु सभु जगतु सबाइआ ॥
He Himself created the whole drama of all the world's play.
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰਜਿਅਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥
Thrai Gun Aap Sirajian Maaeiaa Mohu Vadhhaaeiaa ||
त्रै गुण आपि सिरजिअनु माइआ मोहु वधाइआ ॥
He Himself formed the three gunas, the three qualities; He increased the attachment to Maya.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
Gur Parasaadhee Oubarae Jin Bhaanaa Bhaaeiaa ||
गुर परसादी उबरे जिन भाणा भाइआ ॥
By Guru's Grace, they are saved - those who love the Will of God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਸਭ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
Naanak Sach Varathadhaa Sabh Sach Samaaeiaa ||1||
नानक सचु वरतदा सभ सचि समाइआ ॥१॥
O Nanak, the True Lord is pervading everywhere; all are contained within the True Lord. ||1||
