सलोक मः ३ ॥
Shalok, Third Mehl:
ਅਮਰੁ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਨ ਚਲਈ ਨ ਹੁਜਤਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਜਾਇ ॥
Amar Vaeparavaahu Hai This Naal Siaanap N Chalee N Hujath Karanee Jaae ||
अमरु वेपरवाहु है तिसु नालि सिआणप न चलई न हुजति करणी जाइ ॥
The Order of the Lord is beyond challenge. Clever tricks and arguments will not work against it.
ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਸਰਣਾਇ ਪਵੈ ਮੰਨਿ ਲਏ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
Aap Shhodd Saranaae Pavai Mann Leae Rajaae ||
आपु छोडि सरणाइ पवै मंनि लए रजाइ ॥
So abandon your self-conceit, and take to His Sanctuary; accept the Order of His Will.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਮ ਡੰਡੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
Guramukh Jam Ddandd N Lagee Houmai Vichahu Jaae ||
गुरमुखि जम डंडु न लगई हउमै विचहु जाइ ॥
The Gurmukh eliminates self-conceit from within himself; he shall not be punished by the Messenger of Death.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸੋਈ ਆਖੀਐ ਜਿ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
Naanak Saevak Soee Aakheeai J Sach Rehai Liv Laae ||1||
नानक सेवकु सोई आखीऐ जि सचि रहै लिव लाइ ॥१॥
O Nanak, he alone is called a selfless servant, who remains lovingly attuned to the True Lord. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਦਾਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਭ ਸੂਰਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
Dhaath Joth Sabh Soorath Thaeree ||
दाति जोति सभ सूरति तेरी ॥
All gifts, light and beauty are Yours.
ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰੀ ॥
Bahuth Siaanap Houmai Maeree ||
बहुतु सिआणप हउमै मेरी ॥
Excessive cleverness and egotism are mine.
ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਫੇਰੀ ॥
Bahu Karam Kamaavehi Lobh Mohi Viaapae Houmai Kadhae N Chookai Faeree ||
बहु करम कमावहि लोभि मोहि विआपे हउमै कदे न चूकै फेरी ॥
The mortal performs all sorts of rituals in greed and attachment; engrossed in egotsim, he shall never escape the cycle of reincarnation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਾਈ ਗਲ ਚੰਗੇਰੀ ॥੨॥

नानक आपि कराए करता जो तिसु भावै साई गल चंगेरी ॥२॥
O Nanak, the Creator Himself inspires all to act. Whatever pleases Him is good. ||2||

Pauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਸਚੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
Sach Khaanaa Sach Painanaa Sach Naam Adhhaar ||
सचु खाणा सचु पैनणा सचु नामु अधारु ॥
Let Truth be your food, and Truth your clothes, and take the Support of the True Name.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
Gur Poorai Maelaaeiaa Prabh Dhaevanehaar ||
गुरि पूरै मेलाइआ प्रभु देवणहारु ॥
The True Guru shall lead you to meet God, the Great Giver.
ਭਾਗੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਤਿਨ ਜਾਗਿਆ ਜਪਿਆ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
Bhaag Pooraa Thin Jaagiaa Japiaa Nirankaar ||
भागु पूरा तिन जागिआ जपिआ निरंकारु ॥
When perfect destiny is activated, the mortal meditates on the Formless Lord.
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਲਗਿਆ ਤਰਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
Saadhhoo Sangath Lagiaa Thariaa Sansaar ||
साधू संगति लगिआ तरिआ संसारु ॥
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall cross over the world-ocean.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥੩੫॥
Naanak Sifath Salaah Kar Prabh Kaa Jaikaar ||35||
नानक सिफति सलाह करि प्रभ का जैकारु ॥३५॥
O Nanak, chant God's Praises, and celebrate His Victory. ||35||

ਸਭੇ ਜੀਅ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਅਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੁ ॥
Sabhae Jeea Samaal Apanee Mihar Kar ||
सभे जीअ समालि अपणी मिहर करु ॥
In Your Mercy, You care for all beings and creatures.
ਅੰਨੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਮੁਚੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਦੁਖ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਭੰਨਿ ਤਰੁ ॥
Ann Paanee Much Oupaae Dhukh Dhaaladh Bhann Thar ||
अंनु पाणी मुचु उपाइ दुख दालदु भंनि तरु ॥
You produce corn and water in abundance; You eliminate pain and poverty, and carry all beings across.
ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਦਾਤਾਰਿ ਹੋਈ ਸਿਸਟਿ ਠਰੁ ॥
Aradhaas Sunee Dhaathaar Hoee Sisatt Thar ||
अरदासि सुणी दातारि होई सिसटि ठरु ॥
The Great Giver listened to my prayer, and the world has been cooled and comforted.
ਲੇਵਹੁ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਗਾਇ ਅਪਦਾ ਸਭ ਹਰੁ ॥
Laevahu Kanth Lagaae Apadhaa Sabh Har ||
लेवहु कंठि लगाइ अपदा सभ हरु ॥
Take me into Your Embrace, and take away all my pain.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਸਫਲੁ ਘਰੁ ॥੧॥
Naanak Naam Dhhiaae Prabh Kaa Safal Ghar ||1||
नानक नामु धिआइ प्रभ का सफलु घरु ॥१॥
Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the House of God is fruitful and prosperous. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:
ਵੁਠੇ ਮੇਘ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥
Vuthae Maegh Suhaavanae Hukam Keethaa Karathaar ||
वुठे मेघ सुहावणे हुकमु कीता करतारि ॥
Rain is falling from the clouds - it is so beautiful! The Creator Lord issued His Order.
ਰਿਜਕੁ ਉਪਾਇਓਨੁ ਅਗਲਾ ਠਾਂਢਿ ਪਈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
Rijak Oupaaeioun Agalaa Thaandt Pee Sansaar ||
रिजकु उपाइओनु अगला ठांढि पई संसारि ॥
Grain has been produced in abundance; the world is cooled and comforted.
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
Than Man Hariaa Hoeiaa Simarath Agam Apaar ||
तनु मनु हरिआ होइआ सिमरत अगम अपार ॥
The mind and body are rejuvenated, meditating in remembrance on the Inaccessible and Infinite Lord.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Prabh Aapanee Sachae Sirajanehaar ||
करि किरपा प्रभ आपणी सचे सिरजणहार ॥
O my True Creator Lord God, please shower Your Mercy on me.
ਕੀਤਾ ਲੋੜਹਿ ਸੋ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੨॥
Keethaa Lorrehi So Karehi Naanak Sadh Balihaar ||2||
कीता लोड़हि सो करहि नानक सद बलिहार ॥२॥
He does whatever He pleases; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to Him. ||2||

ਵਡਾ ਆਪਿ ਅਗੰਮੁ ਹੈ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
Vaddaa Aap Aganm Hai Vaddee Vaddiaaee ||
वडा आपि अगमु है वडी वडिआई ॥
The Great Lord is Inaccessible; His glorious greatness is glorious!
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਸਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਆਈ ॥
Gur Sabadhee Vaekh Vigasiaa Anthar Saanth Aaee ||
गुर सबदी वेखि विगसिआ अंतरि सांति आई ॥
Gazing upon Him through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I blossom forth in ecstasy; tranquility comes to my inner being.
ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ॥
Sabh Aapae Aap Varathadhaa Aapae Hai Bhaaee ||
सभु आपे आपि वरतदा आपे है भाई ॥
All by Himself, He Himself is pervading everywhere, O Siblings of Destiny.
ਆਪਿ ਨਾਥੁ ਸਭ ਨਥੀਅਨੁ ਸਭ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਚਲਾਈ ॥
Aap Naathh Sabh Nathheean Sabh Hukam Chalaaee ||
आपि नाथु सभ नथीअनु सभ हुकमि चलाई ॥
He Himself is the Lord and Master of all. He has subdued all, and all are under the Hukam of His Command.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਸਭ ਚਲੈ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੩੬॥੧॥ ਸੁਧੁ ॥
Naanak Har Bhaavai So Karae Sabh Chalai Rajaaee ||36||1|| Sudhh ||
नानक हरि भावै सो करे सभ चलै रजाई ॥३६॥१॥ सुधु ॥

O mortal, why are you so proud of small things?
ਮਨ ਦਸ ਨਾਜੁ ਟਕਾ ਚਾਰਿ ਗਾਂਠੀ ਐਂਡੌ ਟੇਢੌ ਜਾਤੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Man Dhas Naaj Ttakaa Chaar Gaanthee Ainadda Ttaedta Jaath ||1|| Rehaao ||
मन दस नाजु टका चारि गांठी ऐंडौ टेढौ जातु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
With a few pounds of grain and a few coins in your pocket, you are totally puffed up with pride. ||1||Pause||
ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪੁ ਗਾਂਉ ਸਉ ਪਾਏ ਦੁਇ ਲਖ ਟਕਾ ਬਰਾਤ ॥
Bahuth Prathaap Gaano So Paaeae Dhue Lakh Ttakaa Baraath ||
बहुतु प्रतापु गांउ सउ पाए दुइ लख टका बरात ॥
With great pomp and ceremony, you control a hundred villages, with an income of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
ਦਿਵਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਕੀ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੀ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਨ ਹਰ ਪਾਤ ॥੧॥
Dhivas Chaar Kee Karahu Saahibee Jaisae Ban Har Paath ||1||
दिवस चारि की करहु साहिबी जैसे बन हर पात ॥१॥
The power you exert will last for only a few days, like the green leaves of the forest. ||1||
ਨਾ ਕੋਊ ਲੈ ਆਇਓ ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਾ ਕੋਊ ਲੈ ਜਾਤੁ ॥
Naa Kooo Lai Aaeiou Eihu Dhhan Naa Kooo Lai Jaath ||
ना कोऊ लै आइओ इहु धनु ना कोऊ लै जातु ॥
No one has brought this wealth with him, and no one will take it with him when he goes.
ਰਾਵਨ ਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਅਧਿਕ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤਿ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਗਏ ਬਿਲਾਤ ॥੨॥
Raavan Hoon Thae Adhhik Shhathrapath Khin Mehi Geae Bilaath ||2||
रावन हूं ते अधिक छत्रपति खिन महि गए बिलात ॥२॥
Emperors, even greater than Raawan, passed away in an instant. ||2||
