गुर सबदु बीचारहि आपु जाइ ॥
Contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and be rid of your ego.
ਸਾਚ ਜੋਗੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਆਇ ॥੮॥

साच जोगु मनि वसै आइ ॥८॥
True Yoga shall come to dwell in your mind. ||8||
ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Jin Jeeo Pindd Dhithaa This Chaethehi Naahi ||
जिनि जीउ पिंडु दिता तिसु चेतहि नाहि ॥
He blessed you with body and soul, but you do not even think of Him.
ਮੜੀ ਮਸਾਣੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੯॥
Marree Masaanee Moorrae Jog Naahi ||9||
मड़ी मसाणी मूड़े जोगु नाहि ॥९॥
You fool! Visiting graves and cremation grounds is not Yoga. ||9||

गुण नानकु बोलै भली बाणि ॥

दुबिधा दुरमति अधुली कार ॥
In duality and evil-mindedness, the mortal acts blindly.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਮਝਿ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥੧॥
Manamukh Bharamai Majh Gubaar ||1||
मनमुखि भरमै मझि गुबार ॥१॥
The self-willed manmukh wanders, lost in the darkness. ||1||
ਮਨੁ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਅੰਧੁਲੀ ਮਤਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
Man Andhhulaa Andhhulee Math Laagai ||
मनु अंधुला अंधुली मति लागै ॥
The blind man follows blind advice.
ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Unless one takes the Guru's Way, his doubt is not dispelled. ||1||Pause||
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
Manamukh Andhhulae Guramath N Bhaaee ||
मनमुखि अंधुले गुरमति न भाई ॥
The manmukh is blind; he does not like the Guru's Teachings.
ਪਸੂ ਭਏ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
Pasoo Bheae Abhimaan N Jaaee ||2||
पसू भए अभिमानु न जाई ॥२॥
He has become a beast; he cannot get rid of his egotistical pride. ||2||
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
Lakh Chouraaseeh Janth Oupaaeae ||
लख चउरासीह जंत उपाए ॥
God created 8.4 million species of beings.
ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥
Maerae Thaakur Bhaanae Siraj Samaaeae ||3||
मेरे ठाकुर भाणे सिरजि समाए ॥३॥
My Lord and Master, by the Pleasure of His Will, creates and destroys them. ||3||
ਸਗਲੀ ਭੂਲੈ ਨਹੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਚਾਰੁ ॥
Sagalee Bhoolai Nehee Sabadh Achaar ||
सगली भूलै नही सबदु अचारु ॥
All are deluded and confused, without the Word of the Shabad and good conduct.
ਸੋ ਸਮਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
So Samajhai Jis Gur Karathaar ||4||
सो समझै जिसु गुरु करतारु ॥४॥
He alone is instructed in this, who is blessed by the Guru, the Creator. ||4||
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਾਕਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ॥
Gur Kae Chaakar Thaakur Bhaanae ||
गुर के चाकर ठाकुर भाणे ॥
The Guru's servants are pleasing to our Lord and Master.
ਬਖਸਿ ਲੀਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਕਾਣੇ ॥੫॥
Bakhas Leeeae Naahee Jam Kaanae ||5||
बखसि लीए नाही जम काणे ॥५॥
The Lord forgives them, and they no longer fear the Messenger of Death. ||5||
ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੋ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
Jin Kai Hiradhai Eaeko Bhaaeiaa ||
जिन कै हिरदै एको भाइआ ॥
Those who love the One Lord with all their heart
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
Aapae Maelae Bharam Chukaaeiaa ||6||
आपे मेले भरमु चुकाइआ ॥६॥
- He dispels their doubts and unites them with Himself. ||6||
ਬੇਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
Baemuhathaaj Baeanth Apaaraa ||
बेमुहताजु बेअंतु अपारा ॥
God is Independent, Endless and Infinite.
ਸਚਿ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ॥੭॥
Sach Patheejai Karanaihaaraa ||7||
सचि पतीजै करणैहारा ॥७॥
The Creator Lord is pleased with Truth. ||7||
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੂਲੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ॥

नानक भूले गुरु समझावै ॥
O Nanak, the Guru instructs the mistaken soul.
ਏਕੁ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਟਿਕਾਵੈ ॥੮॥੬॥

एकु दिखावै साचि टिकावै ॥८॥६॥
He implants the Truth within him, and shows him the One Lord. ||8||6||

ਆਪੇ ਭਵਰਾ ਫੂਲ ਬੇਲਿ ॥

आपे भवरा फूल बेलि ॥
He Himself is the bumble bee, the fruit and the vine.
ਆਪੇ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੀਤ ਮੇਲਿ ॥੧॥
Aapae Sangath Meeth Mael ||1||
आपे संगति मीत मेलि ॥१॥
He Himself unites us with the Sangat - the Congregation, and the Guru, our Best Friend. ||1||
ਐਸੀ ਭਵਰਾ ਬਾਸੁ ਲੇ ॥
Aisee Bhavaraa Baas Lae ||
ऐसी भवरा बासु ले ॥
O bumble bee, suck in that fragrance,
ਤਰਵਰ ਫੂਲੇ ਬਨ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तरवर फूले बन हरे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Which causes the trees to flower, and the woods to grow lush foliage. ||1||Pause||
ਆਪੇ ਕਵਲਾ ਕੰਤੁ ਆਪਿ ॥
Aapae Kavalaa Kanth Aap ||
आपे कवला कंतु आपि ॥
He Himself is Lakshmi, and He Himself is her husband.
ਆਪੇ ਰਾਵੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਥਾਪਿ ॥੨॥
Aapae Raavae Sabadh Thhaap ||2||
आपे रावे सबदि थापि ॥२॥
He established the world by Word of His Shabad, and He Himself ravishes it. ||2||
ਆਪੇ ਬਛਰੂ ਗਊ ਖੀਰੁ ॥
Aapae Bashharoo Goo Kheer ||
आपे बछरू गऊ खीरु ॥
He Himself is the calf, the cow and the milk.
ਆਪੇ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥੩॥
Aapae Mandhar Thhanmha Sareer ||3||
आपे मंदरु थम्हु सरीरु ॥३॥
He Himself is the Support of the body-mansion. ||3||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
Aapae Karanee Karanehaar ||
आपे करणी करणहारु ॥
He Himself is the Deed, and He Himself is the Doer.
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
Aapae Guramukh Kar Beechaar ||4||
आपे गुरमुखि करि बीचारु ॥४॥
As Gurmukh, He contemplates Himself. ||4||
ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
Thoo Kar Kar Dhaekhehi Karanehaar ||
तू करि करि देखहि करणहारु ॥
You create the creation, and gaze upon it, O Creator Lord.
ਜੋਤਿ ਜੀਅ ਅਸੰਖ ਦੇਇ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੫॥
Joth Jeea Asankh Dhaee Adhhaar ||5||
जोति जीअ असंख देइ अधारु ॥५॥
You give Your Support to the uncounted beings and creatures. ||5||
ਤੂ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥
Thoo Sar Saagar Gun Geheer ||
तू सरु सागरु गुण गहीरु ॥
You are the Profound, Unfathomable Ocean of Virtue.
ਤੂ ਅਕੁਲ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਰਮ ਹੀਰੁ ॥੬॥
Thoo Akul Niranjan Param Heer ||6||
तू अकुल निरंजनु परम हीरु ॥६॥
You are the Unknowable, the Immaculate, the most Sublime Jewel. ||6||
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਣ ਜੋਗੁ ॥

तू आपे करता करण जोगु ॥
You Yourself are the Creator, with the Potency to create.
ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਰਾਜਨ ਸੁਖੀ ਲੋਗੁ ॥੭॥
Nihakaeval Raajan Sukhee Log ||7||
निहकेवलु राजन सुखी लोगु ॥७॥
You are the Independent Ruler, whose people are at peace. ||7||
ਨਾਨਕ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਆਦਿ ॥
Naanak Dhhraapae Har Naam Suaadh ||
नानक ध्रापे हरि नाम सुआदि ॥
Nanak is satisfied with the subtle taste of the Lord's Name.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਾਦਿ ॥੮॥੭॥

No Sath Choudheh Theen Chaar Kar Mehalath Chaar Behaalee ||
नउ सत चउदह तीनि चारि करि महलति चारि बहाली ॥
The nine regions, the seven continents, the fourteen worlds, the three qualities and the four ages - You established them all through the four sources of creation, and You seated them in Your mansions.
ਚਾਰੇ ਦੀਵੇ ਚਹੁ ਹਥਿ ਦੀਏ ਏਕਾ ਏਕਾ ਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥

चारे दीवे चहु हथि दीए एका एका वारी ॥१॥
He placed the four lamps, one by one, into the hands of the four ages. ||1||

मिहरवान मधुसूदन माधौ ऐसी सकति तुम्हारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
O Merciful Lord, Destroyer of demons, Lord of Lakshmi, such is Your Power - Your Shakti. ||1||Pause||
ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਲਸਕਰੁ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੀ ॥
Ghar Ghar Lasakar Paavak Thaeraa Dhharam Karae Sikadhaaree ||
घरि घरि लसकरु पावकु तेरा धरमु करे सिकदारी ॥
Your army is the fire in the home of each and every heart. And Dharma - righteous living is the ruling chieftain.
ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇਗ ਮਿਲੈ ਇਕ ਵੇਰਾ ਭਾਗੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
Dhharathee Dhaeg Milai Eik Vaeraa Bhaag Thaeraa Bhanddaaree ||2||
धरती देग मिलै इक वेरा भागु तेरा भंडारी ॥२॥
The earth is Your great cooking pot; Your beings receive their portions only once. Destiny is Your gate-keeper. ||2||
ਨਾ ਸਾਬੂਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੰਗੈ ਨਾਰਦੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰੀ ॥
Naa Saaboor Hovai Fir Mangai Naaradh Karae Khuaaree ||
ना साबूरु होवै फिरि मंगै नारदु करे खुआरी ॥
But the mortal becomes unsatisfied, and begs for more; his fickle mind brings him disgrace.
