ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਜਨੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੭॥
Har Ras Raathaa Jan Paravaan ||7||
हरि रसि राता जनु परवाणु ॥७॥
That humble being who is imbued with the sublime essence of the Lord is certified and approved. ||7||
ਇਤ ਉਤ ਦੇਖਉ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਾਵਉ ॥
Eith Outh Dhaekho Sehajae Raavo ||
इत उत देखउ सहजे रावउ ॥
I see Him here and there; I dwell on Him intuitively.
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਭਾਵਉ ॥
Thujh Bin Thaakur Kisai N Bhaavo ||
तुझ बिनु ठाकुर किसै न भावउ ॥
I do not love any other than You, O Lord and Master.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇਆ ॥
Naanak Houmai Sabadh Jalaaeiaa ||
नानक हउमै सबदि जलाइआ ॥
O Nanak, my ego has been burnt away by the Word of the Shabad.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥੮॥੩॥

The fickle consciousness cannot find the Lord's limits.
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਬਾਰਾ ॥
Aavath Jaath N Laagai Baaraa ||
आवत जात न लागै बारा ॥
It is caught in non-stop coming and going.
ਦੂਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਮਰੀਐ ਕਰਤਾਰਾ ॥
Dhookh Ghano Mareeai Karathaaraa ||
दूखु घणो मरीऐ करतारा ॥
I am suffering and dying, O my Creator.
ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕੋ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਸਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
Bin Preetham Ko Karai N Saaraa ||1||
बिनु प्रीतम को करै न सारा ॥१॥
No one cares for me, except my Beloved. ||1||
ਸਭ ਊਤਮ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਉ ਹੀਨਾ ॥
Sabh Ootham Kis Aakho Heenaa ||
सभ ऊतम किसु आखउ हीना ॥
All are high and exalted; how can I call anyone low?

Aoukhadhh Kar Thhaakee Bahuthaerae ||
अउखध करि थाकी बहुतेरे ॥
I have taken all sorts of medicines; I am so tired of them.
ਕਿਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਚੂਕੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
Kio Dhukh Chookai Bin Gur Maerae ||
किउ दुखु चूकै बिनु गुर मेरे ॥
How can this disease be cured, without my Guru?
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੂਖ ਘਣੇਰੇ ॥
Bin Har Bhagathee Dhookh Ghanaerae ||
बिनु हरि भगती दूख घणेरे ॥
Without devotional worship of the Lord, the pain is so great.
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਦਾਤੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ॥੨॥
Dhukh Sukh Dhaathae Thaakur Maerae ||2||
दुख सुख दाते ठाकुर मेरे ॥२॥
My Lord and Master is the Giver of pain and pleasure. ||2||
ਰੋਗੁ ਵਡੋ ਕਿਉ ਬਾਂਧਉ ਧੀਰਾ ॥
Rog Vaddo Kio Baandhho Dhheeraa ||
रोगु वडो किउ बांधउ धीरा ॥
The disease is so deadly; how can I find the courage?
ਰੋਗੁ ਬੁਝੈ ਸੋ ਕਾਟੈ ਪੀਰਾ ॥
Rog Bujhai So Kaattai Peeraa ||
रोगु बुझै सो काटै पीरा ॥
He knows my disease, and only He can take away the pain.
ਮੈ ਅਵਗਣ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
Mai Avagan Man Maahi Sareeraa ||
मै अवगण मन माहि सरीरा ॥
My mind and body are filled with faults and demerits.
ਢੂਢਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਬੀਰਾ ॥੩॥

ढूढत खोजत गुरि मेले बीरा ॥३॥
I searched and searched, and found the Guru, O my brother! ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਦਾਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
Gur Kaa Sabadh Dhaaroo Har Naao ||
गुर का सबदु दारू हरि नाउ ॥
The Word of the Guru's Shabad, and the Lord's Name are the cures.
ਜਿਉ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਵੈ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jio Thoo Raakhehi Thivai Rehaao ||
जिउ तू राखहि तिवै रहाउ ॥
As You keep me, so do I remain.
ਜਗੁ ਰੋਗੀ ਕਹ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਉ ॥
Jag Rogee Keh Dhaekh Dhikhaao ||
जगु रोगी कह देखि दिखाउ ॥
The world is sick; where should I look?
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਾਇਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥
Har Niramaaeil Niramal Naao ||4||
हरि निरमाइलु निरमलु नाउ ॥४॥
The Lord is Pure and Immaculate; Immaculate is His Name. ||4||
ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਘਰੁ ਜੋ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥
Ghar Mehi Ghar Jo Dhaekh Dhikhaavai ||
घर महि घरु जो देखि दिखावै ॥
The Guru sees and reveals the Lord's home, deep within the home of the self;
ਗੁਰ ਮਹਲੀ ਸੋ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ॥
Gur Mehalee So Mehal Bulaavai ||
गुर महली सो महलि बुलावै ॥
He ushers the soul-bride into the Mansion of the Lord's Presence.
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਚਿਤ ਮਹਿ ਚੀਤਾ ॥
Man Mehi Manooaa Chith Mehi Cheethaa ||
मन महि मनूआ चित महि चीता ॥
When the mind remains in the mind, and the consciousness in the consciousness,
ਐਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਲੋਗ ਅਤੀਤਾ ॥੫॥
Aisae Har Kae Log Atheethaa ||5||
ऐसे हरि के लोग अतीता ॥५॥
Such people of the Lord remain unattached. ||5||
ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਤੇ ਰਹਹਿ ਨਿਰਾਸਾ ॥
Harakh Sog Thae Rehehi Niraasaa ||
हरख सोग ते रहहि निरासा ॥
They remain free of any desire for happiness or sorrow;
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ॥
Anmrith Chaakh Har Naam Nivaasaa ||
अम्रितु चाखि हरि नामि निवासा ॥
Tasting the Amrit, the Ambrosial Nectar, they abide in the Lord's Name.
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
Aap Pashhaan Rehai Liv Laagaa ||
आपु पछाणि रहै लिव लागा ॥
They recognize their own selves, and remain lovingly attuned to the Lord.
ਜਨਮੁ ਜੀਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੬॥
Janam Jeeth Guramath Dhukh Bhaagaa ||6||
जनमु जीति गुरमति दुखु भागा ॥६॥
They are victorious on the battlefield of life, following the Guru's Teachings, and their pains run away. ||6||
ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵਉ ॥
Gur Dheeaa Sach Anmrith Peevo ||
गुरि दीआ सचु अम्रितु पीवउ ॥
The Guru has given me the True Ambrosial Nectar; I drink it in.
ਸਹਜਿ ਮਰਉ ਜੀਵਤ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਉ ॥
Sehaj Maro Jeevath Hee Jeevo ||
सहजि मरउ जीवत ही जीवउ ॥
Of course, I have died, and now I am alive to live.
ਅਪਣੋ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
Apano Kar Raakhahu Gur Bhaavai ||
अपणो करि राखहु गुर भावै ॥
Please, protect me as Your Own, if it pleases You.
ਤੁਮਰੋ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੭॥
Thumaro Hoe S Thujhehi Samaavai ||7||
तुमरो होइ सु तुझहि समावै ॥७॥
One who is Yours, merges into You. ||7||
ਭੋਗੀ ਕਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਆਪੈ ॥
Bhogee Ko Dhukh Rog Viaapai ||
भोगी कउ दुखु रोग विआपै ॥
Painful diseases afflict those who are sexually promiscuous.
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਪੈ ॥
Ghatt Ghatt Rav Rehiaa Prabh Jaapai ||
घटि घटि रवि रहिआ प्रभु जापै ॥
God appears permeating and pervading in each and every heart.
ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਤੀਤਾ ॥
Sukh Dhukh Hee Thae Gur Sabadh Atheethaa ||
सुख दुख ही ते गुर सबदि अतीता ॥
One who remains unattached, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵੈ ਹਿਤ ਚੀਤਾ ॥੮॥੪॥
Naanak Raam Ravai Hith Cheethaa ||8||4||
नानक रामु रवै हित चीता ॥८॥४॥
- O Nanak, his heart and consciousness dwell upon and savor the Lord. ||8||4||

मतु भसम अंधूले गरबि जाहि ॥
Do not make such a show of rubbing ashes on your body.
ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਗੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
Ein Bidhh Naagae Jog Naahi ||1||
इन बिधि नागे जोगु नाहि ॥१॥
O naked Yogi, this is not the way of Yoga! ||1||
ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਤੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ॥
Moorrhae Kaahae Bisaariou Thai Raam Naam ||
मूड़्हे काहे बिसारिओ तै राम नाम ॥
You fool! How can you have forgotten the Lord's Name?
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਆਵੈ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Anth Kaal Thaerai Aavai Kaam ||1|| Rehaao ||
अंत कालि तेरै आवै काम ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
At the very last moment, it and it alone shall be of any use to you. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਿ ਤੁਮ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
Gur Pooshh Thum Karahu Beechaar ||
गुर पूछि तुम करहु बीचारु ॥
Consult the Guru, reflect and think it over.
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਣਿ ॥੨॥
Jeh Dhaekho Theh Saarigapaan ||2||
जह देखउ तह सारिगपाणि ॥२॥
Wherever I look, I see the Lord of the World. ||2||
ਕਿਆ ਹਉ ਆਖਾ ਜਾਂ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Kiaa Ho Aakhaa Jaan Kashhoo Naahi ||
किआ हउ आखा जां कछू नाहि ॥
What can I say? I am nothing.
ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੩॥
Jaath Path Sabh Thaerai Naae ||3||
जाति पति सभ तेरै नाइ ॥३॥
All my status and honor are in Your Name. ||3||
ਕਾਹੇ ਮਾਲੁ ਦਰਬੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
Kaahae Maal Dharab Dhaekh Garab Jaahi ||
काहे मालु दरबु देखि गरबि जाहि ॥
Why do you take such pride in gazing upon your property and wealth?
ਚਲਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਤੇਰੋ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੪॥
Chalathee Baar Thaero Kashhoo Naahi ||4||
चलती बार तेरो कछू नाहि ॥४॥
When you must leave, nothing shall go along with you. ||4||
ਪੰਚ ਮਾਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਥਾਇ ॥
Panch Maar Chith Rakhahu Thhaae ||
पंच मारि चितु रखहु थाइ ॥
So subdue the five thieves, and hold your consciousness in its place.
ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਇਹੈ ਪਾਂਇ ॥੫॥
Jog Jugath Kee Eihai Paane ||5||
जोग जुगति की इहै पांइ ॥५॥
This is the basis of the way of Yoga. ||5||
ਹਉਮੈ ਪੈਖੜੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Houmai Paikharr Thaerae Manai Maahi ||
हउमै पैखड़ु तेरे मनै माहि ॥
Your mind is tied with the rope of egotism.
ਹਰਿ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੬॥
Har N Chaethehi Moorrae Mukath Jaahi ||6||
हरि न चेतहि मूड़े मुकति जाहि ॥६॥
You do not even think of the Lord - you fool! He alone shall liberate you. ||6||
ਮਤ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਸਰਿਐ ਜਮ ਵਸਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
Math Har Visariai Jam Vas Paahi ||
मत हरि विसरिऐ जम वसि पाहि ॥
If you forget the Lord, you will fall into the clutches of the Messenger of Death.
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਚੋਟ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੭॥
Anth Kaal Moorrae Chott Khaahi ||7||
अंत कालि मूड़े चोट खाहि ॥७॥
At that very last moment, you fool, you shall be beaten. ||7||
