हरि के संत सदा थिरु पूजहु जो हरि नामु जपात ॥
The Lord's Saints are steady and stable forever; they worship and adore Him, and chant the Lord's Name.
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਤ ਹੈ ਗੋਬਿਦੁ ਤੇ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਤ ॥੩॥
Jin Ko Kirapaa Karath Hai Gobidh Thae Sathasang Milaath ||3||
जिन कउ क्रिपा करत है गोबिदु ते सतसंगि मिलात ॥३॥
Those who are mercifully blessed by the Lord of the Universe, join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. ||3||
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਨ ਚਲਤ ਸੰਗਾਤ ॥
Maath Pithaa Banithaa Suth Sanpath Anth N Chalath Sangaath ||
मात पिता बनिता सुत स्मपति अंति न चलत संगात ॥
Mother, father, spouse, children and wealth will not go along with you in the end.
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਰਾਮ ਭਜੁ ਬਉਰੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਰਥ ਜਾਤ ॥੪॥੧॥

हसतो जाइ सु रोवतु आवै रोवतु जाइ सु हसै ॥
The one who goes laughing returns crying, and the one who goes crying returns laughing.
ਬਸਤੋ ਹੋਇ ਹੋਇ ਸ ਊਜਰੁ ਊਜਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਬਸੈ ॥੧॥
Basatho Hoe Hoe Suo Oojar Oojar Hoe S Basai ||1||
बसतो होइ होइ सो ऊजरु ऊजरु होइ सु बसै ॥१॥
What is inhabited becomes deserted, and what is deserted becomes inhabited. ||1||
ਜਲ ਤੇ ਥਲ ਕਰਿ ਥਲ ਤੇ ਕੂਆ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਮੇਰੁ ਕਰਾਵੈ ॥
Jal Thae Thhal Kar Thhal Thae Kooaa Koop Thae Maer Karaavai ||
जल ते थल करि थल ते कूआ कूप ते मेरु करावै ॥
The water turns into a desert, the desert turns into a well, and the well turns into a mountain.
ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਆਕਾਸਿ ਚਢਾਵੈ ਚਢੇ ਅਕਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
Dhharathee Thae Aakaas Chadtaavai Chadtae Akaas Giraavai ||2||
धरती ते आकासि चढावै चढे अकासि गिरावै ॥२॥
From the earth, the mortal is exalted to the Akaashic ethers; and from the ethers on high, he is thrown down again. ||2||
ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਤੇ ਰਾਜੁ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਤੇ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ॥

भेखारी ते राजु करावै राजा ते भेखारी ॥
The beggar is transformed into a king, and the king into a beggar.
ਖਲ ਮੂਰਖ ਤੇ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਕਰਿਬੋ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਤੇ ਮੁਗਧਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
Khal Moorakh Thae Panddith Karibo Panddith Thae Mugadhhaaree ||3||
खल मूरख ते पंडितु करिबो पंडित ते मुगधारी ॥३॥
The idiotic fool is transformed into a Pandit, a religious scholar, and the Pandit into a fool. ||3||
ਨਾਰੀ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਪੁਰਖਨ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਨਾਰੀ ॥

नारी ते जो पुरखु करावै पुरखन ते जो नारी ॥
The woman is transformed into a man, and the men into women.

Trying to taste the flavor, you swallow the hook.

ऐसे कनिक कामनी बाधिओ मोह ॥१॥
You are bound by attachment to wealth and woman. ||1||

जिउ मधु माखी संचै अपार ॥
The bee stores up loads of honey;
ਮਧੁ ਲੀਨੋ ਮੁਖਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਛਾਰੁ ॥
Madhh Leeno Mukh Dheenee Shhaar ||
मधु लीनो मुखि दीनी छारु ॥
Then someone comes and takes the honey, and throws dust in its mouth.
ਗਊ ਬਾਛ ਕਉ ਸੰਚੈ ਖੀਰੁ ॥
Goo Baashh Ko Sanchai Kheer ||
गऊ बाछ कउ संचै खीरु ॥
The cow stores up loads of milk;
ਗਲਾ ਬਾਂਧਿ ਦੁਹਿ ਲੇਇ ਅਹੀਰੁ ॥੨॥
Galaa Baandhh Dhuhi Laee Aheer ||2||
गला बांधि दुहि लेइ अहीरु ॥२॥
Then the milkman comes and ties it by its neck and milks it. ||2||
ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਅਤਿ ਕਰੈ ॥
Maaeiaa Kaaran Sram Ath Karai ||
माइआ कारनि स्रमु अति करै ॥
For the sake of Maya, the mortal works very hard.
ਸੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਲੈ ਗਾਡੈ ਧਰੈ ॥
So Maaeiaa Lai Gaaddai Dhharai ||
सो माइआ लै गाडै धरै ॥
He takes the wealth of Maya, and buries it in the ground.
ਅਤਿ ਸੰਚੈ ਸਮਝੈ ਨਹੀ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹ ॥
Ath Sanchai Samajhai Nehee Moorrh ||
अति संचै समझै नही मूड़्ह ॥
He acquires so much, but the fool does not appreciate it.
ਧਨੁ ਧਰਤੀ ਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਗਇਓ ਧੂੜਿ ॥੩॥
Dhhan Dhharathee Than Hoe Gaeiou Dhhoorr ||3||
धनु धरती तनु होइ गइओ धूड़ि ॥३॥
His wealth remains buried in the ground, while his body turns to dust. ||3||
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਤਿ ਜਰੈ ॥
Kaam Krodhh Thrisanaa Ath Jarai ||
काम क्रोध त्रिसना अति जरै ॥
He burns in tremendous sexual desire, unresolved anger and desire.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਬਹੂ ਨਹੀ ਕਰੈ ॥
Saadhhasangath Kabehoo Nehee Karai ||
साधसंगति कबहू नही करै ॥
He never joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਕਹਤ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਤਾ ਚੀ ਆਣਿ ॥

कहत नामदेउ ता ची आणि ॥
Says Naam Dayv, seek God's Shelter;

जल ते तरंग तरंग ते है जलु कहन सुनन कउ दूजा ॥१॥
From the water, the waves rise up, and from the waves, the water. They are only different by figures of speech. ||1||

आपहि गावै आपहि नाचै आपि बजावै तूरा ॥
You Yourself sing, and You Yourself dance. You Yourself blow the bugle.
