Paap Bikaar Manoor Sabh Ladhae Bahu Bhaaree ||
पाप बिकार मनूर सभि लदे बहु भारी ॥
Their sin and corruption are like rusty slag; they carry such a heavy load.
ਮਾਰਗੁ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਡਰਾਵਣਾ ਕਿਉ ਤਰੀਐ ਤਾਰੀ ॥
Maarag Bikham Ddaraavanaa Kio Thareeai Thaaree ||
मारगु बिखमु डरावणा किउ तरीऐ तारी ॥
The path is treacherous and terrifying; how can they cross over to the other side?
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਉਧਾਰੀ ॥੨੭॥

नानक गुरि राखे से उबरे हरि नामि उधारी ॥२७॥
O Nanak, those whom the Guru protects are saved. They are saved in the Name of the Lord. ||27||

ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥
Vin Sathigur Saevae Sukh Nehee Mar Janmehi Vaaro Vaar ||
विणु सतिगुर सेवे सुखु नही मरि जमहि वारो वार ॥
Without serving the True Guru, no one finds peace; mortals die and are reborn, over and over again.
ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਪਾਈਅਨੁ ਬਹੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
Moh Thagoulee Paaeean Bahu Dhoojai Bhaae Vikaar ||
मोह ठगउली पाईअनु बहु दूजै भाइ विकार ॥
They have been given the drug of emotional attachment; in love with duality, they are totally corrupt.
ਇਕਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਬਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ॥
Eik Gur Parasaadhee Oubarae This Jan Ko Karehi Sabh Namasakaar ||
इकि गुर परसादी उबरे तिसु जन कउ करहि सभि नमसकार ॥
Some are saved, by Guru's Grace. Everyone humbly bows before such humble beings.

नानक अनदिनु नामु धिआइ तू अंतरि जितु पावहि मोख दुआर ॥१॥

Maaeiaa Mohi Visaariaa Sach Maranaa Har Naam ||
माइआ मोहि विसारिआ सचु मरणा हरि नामु ॥
Emotionally attached to Maya, the mortal forgets truth, death and the Name of the Lord.
ਧੰਧਾ ਕਰਤਿਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਹਾਮੁ ॥
Dhhandhhaa Karathiaa Janam Gaeiaa Andhar Dhukh Sehaam ||
धंधा करतिआ जनमु गइआ अंदरि दुखु सहामु ॥
Engaged in worldly affairs, his life wastes away; deep within himself, he suffers in pain.

Read the account of the Name of the Lord, and you shall never again be called to account.

पुछि न सकै कोइ हरि दरि सद ढोई ॥
No one will question you, and you will always be safe in the Court of the Lord.
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਦੇ ਭੇਟ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਨਿਤ ਹੋਈ ॥
Jamakaal Milai Dhae Bhaett Saevak Nith Hoee ||
जमकालु मिलै दे भेट सेवकु नित होई ॥
The Messenger of Death will meet you, and be your constant servant.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਲੋਈ ॥
Poorae Gur Thae Mehal Paaeiaa Path Paragatt Loee ||
पूरे गुर ते महलु पाइआ पति परगटु लोई ॥
Through the Perfect Guru, you shall find the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. You shall be famous throughout the world.
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨੀ ਦਰਿ ਵਜਦੇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੨੮॥

नानक अनहद धुनी दरि वजदे मिलिआ हरि सोई ॥२८॥
O Nanak, the unstruck celestial melody vibrates at your door; come and merge with the Lord. ||28||

Gur Kaa Kehiaa Jae Karae Sukhee Hoo Sukh Saar ||
गुर का कहिआ जे करे सुखी हू सुखु सारु ॥
Whoever follows the Guru's Teachings, attains the most sublime peace of all peace.

सचु पुराणा ना थीऐ नामु न मैला होइ ॥
The True Lord does not grow old; His Naam is never dirtied.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੇ ਚਲੈ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਆਵਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Gur Kai Bhaanai Jae Chalai Bahurr N Aavan Hoe ||
गुर कै भाणै जे चलै बहुड़ि न आवणु होइ ॥
Whoever walks in harmony with the Guru's Will, shall not be reborn again.

मंगत जनु जाचै दानु हरि देहु सुभाइ ॥
I am a beggar; I ask this blessing of You: O Lord, please embellish me with Your Love.
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਹੈ ਦਰਸਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਇ ॥
Har Dharasan Kee Piaas Hai Dharasan Thripathaae ||
हरि दरसन की पिआस है दरसनि त्रिपताइ ॥
I am so thirsty for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan; His Darshan brings me satisfaction.
ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਊ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੇਖੇ ਮਰਾਂ ਮਾਇ ॥
Khin Pal Gharree N Jeevoo Bin Dhaekhae Maraan Maae ||
खिनु पलु घड़ी न जीवऊ बिनु देखे मरां माइ ॥
I cannot live for a moment, for even an instant, without seeing Him, O my mother.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਲਿ ਦਿਖਾਲਿਆ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਥਾਇ ॥
Sathigur Naal Dhikhaaliaa Rav Rehiaa Sabh Thhaae ||
सतिगुरि नालि दिखालिआ रवि रहिआ सभ थाइ ॥
The Guru has shown me that the Lord is always with me; He is permeating and pervading all places.
ਸੁਤਿਆ ਆਪਿ ਉਠਾਲਿ ਦੇਇ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੨੯॥
Suthiaa Aap Outhaal Dhaee Naanak Liv Laae ||29||
सुतिआ आपि उठालि देइ नानक लिव लाइ ॥२९॥
He Himself wakes the sleepers, O Nanak, and lovingly attunes them to Himself. ||29||

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੋਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਓਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
Manamukh Bol N Jaananhee Ounaa Andhar Kaam Krodhh Ahankaar ||
मनमुख बोलि न जाणन्ही ओना अंदरि कामु क्रोधु अहंकारु ॥
The self-willed manmukhs do not even know how to speak. They are filled with sexual desire, anger and egotism.
ਥਾਉ ਕੁਥਾਉ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਸਦਾ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
Thhaao Kuthhaao N Jaananee Sadhaa Chithavehi Bikaar ||
थाउ कुथाउ न जाणनी सदा चितवहि बिकार ॥
They do not know the difference between good and bad; they constantly think of corruption.
ਦਰਗਹ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਓਥੈ ਹੋਹਿ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ॥
Dharageh Laekhaa Mangeeai Outhhai Hohi Koorriaar ||
दरगह लेखा मंगीऐ ओथै होहि कूड़िआर ॥
In the Lord's Court, they are called to account, and they are judged to be false.
ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈਅਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
Aapae Srisatt Oupaaeean Aap Karae Beechaar ||
आपे स्रिसटि उपाईअनु आपि करे बीचारु ॥
He Himself creates the Universe. He Himself contemplates it.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥
Naanak Kis No Aakheeai Sabh Varathai Aap Sachiaar ||1||
नानक किस नो आखीऐ सभु वरतै आपि सचिआरु ॥१॥
O Nanak, whom should we tell? The True Lord is permeating and pervading all. ||1||

Har Guramukh Thinhee Araadhhiaa Jinh Karam Paraapath Hoe ||
हरि गुरमुखि तिन्ही अराधिआ जिन्ह करमि परापति होइ ॥
The Gurmukhs worship and adore the Lord; they receive the good karma of their actions.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
Naanak Ho Balihaaree Thinh Ko Jinh Har Man Vasiaa Soe ||2||
नानक हउ बलिहारी तिन्ह कउ जिन्ह हरि मनि वसिआ सोइ ॥२॥
O Nanak, I am a sacrifice to those whose minds are filled with the Lord. ||2||

आस करे सभु लोकु बहु जीवणु जाणिआ ॥
All people cherish hope, that they will live long lives.
ਨਿਤ ਜੀਵਣ ਕਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਗੜ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮੰਡਪ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
Nith Jeevan Ko Chith Garrh Manddap Savaariaa ||
नित जीवण कउ चितु गड़्ह मंडप सवारिआ ॥
They wish to live forever; they adorn and embellish their forts and mansions.
ਵਲਵੰਚ ਕਰਿ ਉਪਾਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਹਿਰਿ ਆਣਿਆ ॥
Valavanch Kar Oupaav Maaeiaa Hir Aaniaa ||
वलवंच करि उपाव माइआ हिरि आणिआ ॥
By various frauds and deceptions, they steal the wealth of others.
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਨਿਹਾਲੇ ਸਾਸ ਆਵ ਘਟੈ ਬੇਤਾਲਿਆ ॥
Jamakaal Nihaalae Saas Aav Ghattai Baethaaliaa ||
जमकालु निहाले सास आव घटै बेतालिआ ॥
But the Messenger of Death keeps his gaze on their breath, and the life of those goblins decreases day by day.
