नानक गुर सरणाई उबरे हरि गुर रखवालिआ ॥३०॥
Nanak has come to the Sanctuary of the Guru, and is saved. The Guru, the Lord, is his Protector. ||30||

ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਸੁਆਇ ॥
Parr Parr Panddith Vaadh Vakhaanadhae Maaeiaa Moh Suaae ||
पड़ि पड़ि पंडित वादु वखाणदे माइआ मोह सुआइ ॥
Reading and writing, the Pandits engage in debates and disputes; they are attached to the flavors of Maya.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥
Dhoojai Bhaae Naam Visaariaa Man Moorakh Milai Sajaae ||
दूजै भाइ नामु विसारिआ मन मूरख मिलै सजाइ ॥
In the love of duality, they forget the Naam. Those foolish mortals shall receive their punishment.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਕੀਤੇ ਤਿਸੈ ਨ ਸੇਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਦੇਦਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
Jinih Keethae Thisai N Saevanhee Dhaedhaa Rijak Samaae ||
जिन्हि कीते तिसै न सेवन्ही देदा रिजकु समाइ ॥
They do not serve the One who created them, who gives sustenance to all.
ਜਮ ਕਾ ਫਾਹਾ ਗਲਹੁ ਨ ਕਟੀਐ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
Jam Kaa Faahaa Galahu N Katteeai Fir Fir Aavehi Jaae ||
जम का फाहा गलहु न कटीऐ फिरि फिरि आवहि जाइ ॥
The noose of Death around their necks is not cut off; they come and go in reincarnation, over and over again.
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਆਇ ॥
Jin Ko Poorab Likhiaa Sathigur Miliaa Thin Aae ||
जिन कउ पूरबि लिखिआ सतिगुरु मिलिआ तिन आइ ॥
The True Guru comes and meets those who have such pre-ordained destiny.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥

अनदिनु नामु धिआइदे नानक सचि समाइ ॥१॥
Night and day, they meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; O Nanak, they merge into the True Lord. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਸਚੁ ਵਣਜਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
Sach Vanajehi Sach Saevadhae J Guramukh Pairee Paahi ||
सचु वणजहि सचु सेवदे जि गुरमुखि पैरी पाहि ॥
Those Gurmukhs who fall at His Feet deal with the True Lord and serve the True Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੇ ਚਲਹਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
Naanak Gur Kai Bhaanai Jae Chalehi Sehajae Sach Samaahi ||2||
नानक गुर कै भाणै जे चलहि सहजे सचि समाहि ॥२॥
O Nanak, those who walk in harmony with the Guru's Will are intuitively absorbed in the True Lord. ||2||

ਆਸਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਅਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਣਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
Aasaa Vich Ath Dhukh Ghanaa Manamukh Chith Laaeiaa ||
आसा विचि अति दुखु घणा मनमुखि चितु लाइआ ॥
In hope, there is very great pain; the self-willed manmukh focuses his consciousness on it.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Guramukh Bheae Niraas Param Sukh Paaeiaa ||
गुरमुखि भए निरास परम सुखु पाइआ ॥
The Gurmukhs become desireless, and attain supreme peace.
ਵਿਚੇ ਗਿਰਹ ਉਦਾਸ ਅਲਿਪਤ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
Vichae Gireh Oudhaas Alipath Liv Laaeiaa ||
विचे गिरह उदास अलिपत लिव लाइआ ॥
In the midst of their household, they remain detached; they are lovingly attuned to the Detached Lord.
ਓਨਾ ਸੋਗੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪਈ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
Ounaa Sog Vijog N Viaapee Har Bhaanaa Bhaaeiaa ||
ओना सोगु विजोगु न विआपई हरि भाणा भाइआ ॥
Sorrow and separation do not cling to them at all. They are pleased with the Lord's Will.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੇ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੩੧॥
Naanak Har Saethee Sadhaa Rav Rehae Dhhur Leae Milaaeiaa ||31||
नानक हरि सेती सदा रवि रहे धुरि लए मिलाइआ ॥३१॥
O Nanak, they remain forever immersed in the Primal Lord, who blends them with Himself. ||31||

ਪਰਾਈ ਅਮਾਣ ਕਿਉ ਰਖੀਐ ਦਿਤੀ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Paraaee Amaan Kio Rakheeai Dhithee Hee Sukh Hoe ||
पराई अमाण किउ रखीऐ दिती ही सुखु होइ ॥
Why keep what is held in trust for another? Giving it back, peace is found.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰ ਥੈ ਟਿਕੈ ਹੋਰ ਥੈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
Gur Kaa Sabadh Gur Thhai Ttikai Hor Thhai Paragatt N Hoe ||
गुर का सबदु गुर थै टिकै होर थै परगटु न होइ ॥
The Word of the Guru's Shabad rests in the Guru; it does not appear through anyone else.
ਅੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਵਸਿ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਪਇਆ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਵੇਚਣ ਜਾਇ ॥
Annhae Vas Maanak Paeiaa Ghar Ghar Vaechan Jaae ||
अंन्हे वसि माणकु पइआ घरि घरि वेचण जाइ ॥
The blind man finds a jewel, and goes from house to house selling it.
ਓਨਾ ਪਰਖ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਅਢੁ ਨ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
Ounaa Parakh N Aavee Adt N Palai Paae ||
ओना परख न आवई अढु न पलै पाइ ॥
But they cannot appraise it, and they do not offer him even half a shell for it.
ਜੇ ਆਪਿ ਪਰਖ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਤਾਂ ਪਾਰਖੀਆ ਥਾਵਹੁ ਲਇਓੁ ਪਰਖਾਇ ॥
Jae Aap Parakh N Aavee Thaan Paarakheeaa Thhaavahu Laeio Parakhaae ||
जे आपि परख न आवई तां पारखीआ थावहु लइओ परखाइ ॥
If he cannot appraise it himself, then he should have it appraised by an appraiser.
ਜੇ ਓਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਵਥੁ ਲਹੈ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
Jae Ous Naal Chith Laaeae Thaan Vathh Lehai No Nidhh Palai Paae ||
जे ओसु नालि चितु लाए तां वथु लहै नउ निधि पलै पाइ ॥
If he focuses his consciousness, then he obtains the true object, and he is blessed with the nine treasures.
ਘਰਿ ਹੋਦੈ ਧਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਭੁਖਾ ਮੁਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੋਝੀ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
Ghar Hodhai Dhhan Jag Bhukhaa Muaa Bin Sathigur Sojhee N Hoe ||
घरि होदै धनि जगु भुखा मुआ बिनु सतिगुर सोझी न होइ ॥
The wealth is within the house, while the world is dying of hunger. Without the True Guru, no one has a clue.
ਸਬਦੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਿਥੈ ਸੋਗੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
Sabadh Seethal Man Than Vasai Thithhai Sog Vijog N Koe ||
सबदु सीतलु मनि तनि वसै तिथै सोगु विजोगु न कोइ ॥
When the cooling and soothing Shabad comes to dwell in the mind and body, there is no sorrow or separation there.
ਵਸਤੁ ਪਰਾਈ ਆਪਿ ਗਰਬੁ ਕਰੇ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਣਾਏ ॥
Vasath Paraaee Aap Garab Karae Moorakh Aap Ganaaeae ||
वसतु पराई आपि गरबु करे मूरखु आपु गणाए ॥
The object belongs to someone else, but the fool is proud of it, and shows his shallow nature.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥
Naanak Bin Boojhae Kinai N Paaeiou Fir Fir Aavai Jaaeae ||1||
नानक बिनु बूझे किनै न पाइओ फिरि फिरि आवै जाए ॥१॥
O Nanak, without understanding, no one obtains it; they come and go in reincarnation, over and over again. ||1||

ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸਰਸੇ ਸਜਣ ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
Man Anadh Bhaeiaa Miliaa Har Preetham Sarasae Sajan Santh Piaarae ||
मनि अनदु भइआ मिलिआ हरि प्रीतमु सरसे सजण संत पिआरे ॥
My mind is in ecstasy; I have met my Beloved Lord. My beloved friends, the Saints, are delighted.
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਕਬਹੂ ਜਿ ਆਪਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਕਰਤਾਰੇ ॥
Jo Dhhur Milae N Vishhurrehi Kabehoo J Aap Maelae Karathaarae ||
जो धुरि मिले न विछुड़हि कबहू जि आपि मेले करतारे ॥
Those who are united with the Primal Lord shall never be separated again. The Creator has united them with Himself.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
Anthar Sabadh Raviaa Gur Paaeiaa Sagalae Dhookh Nivaarae ||
अंतरि सबदु रविआ गुरु पाइआ सगले दूख निवारे ॥
The Shabad permeates my inner being, and I have found the Guru; all my sorrows are dispelled.
ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਖਾਂ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
Har Sukhadhaathaa Sadhaa Salaahee Anthar Rakhaan Our Dhhaarae ||
हरि सुखदाता सदा सलाही अंतरि रखां उर धारे ॥
I praise forever the Lord, the Giver of peace; I keep Him enshrined deep within my heart.
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਕਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
Manamukh Thin Kee Bakheelee K Karae J Sachai Sabadh Savaarae ||
मनमुखु तिन की बखीली कि करे जि सचै सबदि सवारे ॥
How can the self-willed manmukh gossip about those who are embellished and exalted in the True Word of the Shabad?
ਓਨਾ ਦੀ ਆਪਿ ਪਤਿ ਰਖਸੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਪਏ ਗੁਰ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥
Ounaa Dhee Aap Path Rakhasee Maeraa Piaaraa Saranaagath Peae Gur Dhuaarae ||
ओना दी आपि पति रखसी मेरा पिआरा सरणागति पए गुर दुआरे ॥
My Beloved Himself preserves the honor of those who have come to the Guru's Door seeking Sanctuary.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਭਏ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
Naanak Guramukh Sae Suhaelae Bheae Mukh Oojal Dharabaarae ||2||
नानक गुरमुखि से सुहेले भए मुख ऊजल दरबारे ॥२॥
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs are filled with joy; their faces are radiant in the Court of the Lord. ||2||

इसतरी पुरखै बहु प्रीति मिलि मोहु वधाइआ ॥
The husband and wife are very much in love; joining together, their love increases.
ਪੁਤ੍ਰੁ ਕਲਤ੍ਰੁ ਨਿਤ ਵੇਖੈ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
Puthra Kalathra Nith Vaekhai Vigasai Mohi Maaeiaa ||
पुत्रु कलत्रु नित वेखै विगसै मोहि माइआ ॥
Gazing on his children and his wife, the man is pleased and attached to Maya.
ਦੇਸਿ ਪਰਦੇਸਿ ਧਨੁ ਚੋਰਾਇ ਆਣਿ ਮੁਹਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Dhaes Paradhaes Dhhan Choraae Aan Muhi Paaeiaa ||
देसि परदेसि धनु चोराइ आणि मुहि पाइआ ॥
Stealing the wealth of his own country and other lands, he brings it home and feeds them.
