The lifestyle of the Lord's humble servant is exalted and sublime. He spreads the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises throughout the world. ||3||

क्रिपा क्रिपा करि ठाकुर मेरे हरि हरि हरि उर धारि ॥
O my Lord and Master, please be merciful, merciful to me, that I may enshrine the Lord, Har, Har, Har, within my heart.

इहु मनु गिरही कि इहु मनु उदासी ॥
Is this mind a householder, or is this mind a detached renunciate?
ਕਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਵਰਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਵਿਨਾਸੀ ॥

कि इहु मनु अवरनु सदा अविनासी ॥
Is this mind beyond social class, eternal and unchanging?

Is this mind fickle, or is this mind detached?

इसु मन कउ ममता किथहु लागी ॥१॥
How has this mind been gripped by possessiveness? ||1||

पंडित इसु मन का करहु बीचारु ॥
O Pandit, O religious scholar, reflect on this in your mind.
ਅਵਰੁ ਕਿ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਪੜਹਿ ਉਠਾਵਹਿ ਭਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

अवरु कि बहुता पड़हि उठावहि भारु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Why do you read so many other things, and carry such a heavy load? ||1||Pause||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਕਰਤੈ ਲਾਈ ॥
Maaeiaa Mamathaa Karathai Laaee ||
माइआ ममता करतै लाई ॥
The Creator has attached it to Maya and possessiveness.
ਏਹੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
Eaehu Hukam Kar Srisatt Oupaaee ||
एहु हुकमु करि स्रिसटि उपाई ॥
Enforcing His Order, He created the world.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਭਾਈ ॥
Gur Parasaadhee Boojhahu Bhaaee ||
गुर परसादी बूझहु भाई ॥
By Guru's Grace, understand this, O Siblings of Destiny.
ਸਦਾ ਰਹਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੨॥
Sadhaa Rehahu Har Kee Saranaaee ||2||
सदा रहहु हरि की सरणाई ॥२॥
Remain forever in the Sanctuary of the Lord. ||2||
ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਜੋ ਤਿਹਾਂ ਗੁਣਾ ਕੀ ਪੰਡ ਉਤਾਰੈ ॥
So Panddith Jo Thihaan Gunaa Kee Pandd Outhaarai ||
सो पंडितु जो तिहां गुणा की पंड उतारै ॥
He alone is a Pandit, who sheds the load of the three qualities.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥
Anadhin Eaeko Naam Vakhaanai ||
अनदिनु एको नामु वखाणै ॥
Night and day, he chants the Name of the One Lord.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਓਹੁ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਲੇਇ ॥
Sathigur Kee Ouhu Dheekhiaa Laee ||
सतिगुर की ओहु दीखिआ लेइ ॥
He accepts the Teachings of the True Guru.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਸੀਸੁ ਧਰੇਇ ॥
Sathigur Aagai Sees Dhharaee ||
सतिगुर आगै सीसु धरेइ ॥
He offers his head to the True Guru.
ਸਦਾ ਅਲਗੁ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ॥
Sadhaa Alag Rehai Nirabaan ||
सदा अलगु रहै निरबाणु ॥
He remains forever unattached in the state of Nirvaanaa.
ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੩॥
So Panddith Dharageh Paravaan ||3||
सो पंडितु दरगह परवाणु ॥३॥
Such a Pandit is accepted in the Court of the Lord. ||3||
ਸਭਨਾਂ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥
Sabhanaan Mehi Eaeko Eaek Vakhaanai ||
सभनां महि एको एकु वखाणै ॥
He preaches that the One Lord is within all beings.
ਜਾਂ ਏਕੋ ਵੇਖੈ ਤਾਂ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
Jaan Eaeko Vaekhai Thaan Eaeko Jaanai ||
जां एको वेखै तां एको जाणै ॥
As he sees the One Lord, he knows the One Lord.
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਬਖਸੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋਇ ॥
Jaa Ko Bakhasae Maelae Soe ||
जा कउ बखसे मेले सोइ ॥
That person, whom the Lord forgives, is united with Him.
ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥
Aithhai Outhhai Sadhaa Sukh Hoe ||4||
ऐथै ओथै सदा सुखु होइ ॥४॥
He finds eternal peace, here and hereafter. ||4||
ਕਹਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਵਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋਇ ॥
Kehath Naanak Kavan Bidhh Karae Kiaa Koe ||
कहत नानकु कवन बिधि करे किआ कोइ ॥
Says Nanak, what can anyone do?
ਸੋਈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
Soee Mukath Jaa Ko Kirapaa Hoe ||
सोई मुकति जा कउ किरपा होइ ॥
He alone is liberated, whom the Lord blesses with His Grace.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
Anadhin Har Gun Gaavai Soe ||
अनदिनु हरि गुण गावै सोइ ॥
Night and day, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਕੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਕੂਕ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥੧॥੧੦॥
Saasathr Baedh Kee Fir Kook N Hoe ||5||1||10||
सासत्र बेद की फिरि कूक न होइ ॥५॥१॥१०॥
Then, he no longer bothers with the proclamations of the Shaastras or the Vedas. ||5||1||10||

ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਾਈ ॥
Bhram Bhram Jon Manamukh Bharamaaee ||
भ्रमि भ्रमि जोनि मनमुख भरमाई ॥
The self-willed manmukhs wander lost in reincarnation, confused and deluded by doubt.
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
Jamakaal Maarae Nith Path Gavaaee ||
जमकालु मारे नित पति गवाई ॥
The Messenger of Death constantly beats them and disgraces them.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਕਾਣਿ ਚੁਕਾਈ ॥
Sathigur Saevaa Jam Kee Kaan Chukaaee ||
सतिगुर सेवा जम की काणि चुकाई ॥
Serving the True Guru, the mortal's subservience to Death is ended.
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥

हरि प्रभु मिलिआ महलु घरु पाई ॥१॥
He meets the Lord God, and enters the Mansion of His Presence. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
Praanee Guramukh Naam Dhhiaae ||
प्राणी गुरमुखि नामु धिआइ ॥
O mortal, as Gurmukh, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਖੋਇਆ ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Janam Padhaarathh Dhubidhhaa Khoeiaa Kouddee Badhalai Jaae ||1|| Rehaao ||
जनमु पदारथु दुबिधा खोइआ कउडी बदलै जाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
In duality, you are ruining and wasting this priceless human life. You trade it away in exchange for a shell. ||1||Pause||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Guramukh Lagai Piaar ||
करि किरपा गुरमुखि लगै पिआरु ॥
The Gurmukh falls in love with the Lord, by His Grace.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੁ ॥
Anthar Bhagath Har Har Our Dhhaar ||
अंतरि भगति हरि हरि उरि धारु ॥
He enshrines loving devotion to the Lord, Har, Har, deep within his heart.
ਭਵਜਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਲੰਘਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
Bhavajal Sabadh Langhaavanehaar ||
भवजलु सबदि लंघावणहारु ॥
The Word of the Shabad carries him across the terrifying world-ocean.
ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਦਿਸੈ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
Dhar Saachai Dhisai Sachiaar ||2||
दरि साचै दिसै सचिआरु ॥२॥
He appears true in the True Court of the Lord. ||2||
ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Bahu Karam Karae Sathigur Nehee Paaeiaa ||
बहु करम करे सतिगुरु नही पाइआ ॥
Performing all sorts of rituals, they do not find the True Guru.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਬਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
Bin Gur Bharam Bhoolae Bahu Maaeiaa ||
बिनु गुर भरमि भूले बहु माइआ ॥
Without the Guru, so many wander lost and confused in Maya.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਬਹੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥
Houmai Mamathaa Bahu Mohu Vadhhaaeiaa ||
हउमै ममता बहु मोहु वधाइआ ॥
Egotism, possessiveness and attachment rise up and increase within them.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
Dhoojai Bhaae Manamukh Dhukh Paaeiaa ||3||
दूजै भाइ मनमुखि दुखु पाइआ ॥३॥
In the love of dualty, the self-willed manmukhs suffer in pain. ||3||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹਾ ॥
Aapae Karathaa Agam Athhaahaa ||
आपे करता अगम अथाहा ॥
The Creator Himself is Inaccessible and Infinite.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਜਪੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਲਾਹਾ ॥
Gur Sabadhee Japeeai Sach Laahaa ||
गुर सबदी जपीऐ सचु लाहा ॥
Chant the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and earn the true profit.
ਹਾਜਰੁ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ॥
Haajar Hajoor Har Vaeparavaahaa ||
हाजरु हजूरि हरि वेपरवाहा ॥
The Lord is Independent, Ever-present, here and now.
