Malaar, Third Mehl:
ਜੀਵਤ ਮੁਕਤ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
Jeevath Mukath Guramathee Laagae ||
जीवत मुकत गुरमती लागे ॥
Those who are attached to the Guru's Teachings are Jivan-mukta liberated while yet alive.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦ ਜਾਗੇ ॥
Har Kee Bhagath Anadhin Sadh Jaagae ||
हरि की भगति अनदिनु सद जागे ॥
They remain forever awake and aware night and day, in devotional worship of the Lord.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
Sathigur Saevehi Aap Gavaae ||
सतिगुरु सेवहि आपु गवाइ ॥
They serve the True Guru, and eradicate their self-conceit.
ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਸਦ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
Ho Thin Jan Kae Sadh Laago Paae ||1||
हउ तिन जन के सद लागउ पाइ ॥१॥
I fall at the feet of such humble beings. ||1||
ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈ ॥
Ho Jeevaan Sadhaa Har Kae Gun Gaaee ||
हउ जीवां सदा हरि के गुण गाई ॥
Constantly singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, I live.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Gur Kaa Sabadh Mehaa Ras Meethaa Har Kai Naam Mukath Gath Paaee ||1|| Rehaao ||
गुर का सबदु महा रसु मीठा हरि कै नामि मुकति गति पाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
The Word of the Guru's Shabad is such totally sweet elixir. Through the Name of the Lord, I have attained the state of liberation. ||1||Pause||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
Maaeiaa Mohu Agiaan Gubaar ||
माइआ मोहु अगिआनु गुबारु ॥
Attachment to Maya leads to the darkness of ignorance.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੋਹੇ ਮੁਗਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥
Manamukh Mohae Mugadhh Gavaar ||
मनमुख मोहे मुगध गवार ॥
The self-willed manukhs are attached, foolish and ignorant.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਧੰਧਾ ਕਰਤ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥
Anadhin Dhhandhhaa Karath Vihaae ||
अनदिनु धंधा करत विहाइ ॥
Night and day, their lives pass away in worldly entanglements.
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
Mar Mar Janmehi Milai Sajaae ||2||
मरि मरि जमहि मिलै सजाइ ॥२॥
They die and die again and again, only to be reborn and receive their punishment. ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
Guramukh Raam Naam Liv Laaee ||
गुरमुखि राम नामि लिव लाई ॥
The Gurmukh is lovingly attuned to the Name of the Lord.
ਕੂੜੈ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਨਾ ਲਪਟਾਈ ॥
Koorrai Laalach Naa Lapattaaee ||
कूड़ै लालचि ना लपटाई ॥
He does not cling to false greed.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
Jo Kishh Hovai Sehaj Subhaae ||
जो किछु होवै सहजि सुभाइ ॥
Whatever he does, he does with intuitive poise.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਇ ॥੩॥
Har Ras Peevai Rasan Rasaae ||3||
हरि रसु पीवै रसन रसाइ ॥३॥
He drinks in the sublime essence of the Lord; his tongue delights in its flavor. ||3||
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
Kott Madhhae Kisehi Bujhaaee ||
कोटि मधे किसहि बुझाई ॥
Among millions, hardly any understand.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
Aapae Bakhasae Dhae Vaddiaaee ||
आपे बखसे दे वडिआई ॥
The Lord Himself forgives, and bestows His glorious greatness.
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
Jo Dhhur Miliaa S Vishhurr N Jaaee ||
जो धुरि मिलिआ सु विछुड़ि न जाई ॥
Whoever meets with the Primal Lord God, shall never be separated again.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੨॥

नानक हरि हरि नामि समाई ॥४॥३॥१२॥
Nanak is absorbed in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||3||12||

ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਕਹੈ ॥
Rasanaa Naam Sabh Koee Kehai ||
रसना नामु सभु कोई कहै ॥
Everyone speaks the Name of the Lord with the tongue.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਹੈ ॥
Sathigur Saevae Thaa Naam Lehai ||
सतिगुरु सेवे ता नामु लहै ॥
But only by serving the True Guru does the mortal receive the Name.
ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਘਰਿ ਰਹੈ ॥
Bandhhan Thorrae Mukath Ghar Rehai ||
बंधन तोड़े मुकति घरि रहै ॥
His bonds are shattered, and he stays in the house of liberation.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਬਹੈ ॥੧॥
Gur Sabadhee Asathhir Ghar Behai ||1||
गुर सबदी असथिरु घरि बहै ॥१॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he sits in the eternal, unchanging house. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਕਾਹੇ ਰੋਸੁ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
Maerae Man Kaahae Ros Kareejai ||
मेरे मन काहे रोसु करीजै ॥
O my mind, why are you angry?
ਲਾਹਾ ਕਲਜੁਗਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Laahaa Kalajug Raam Naam Hai Guramath Anadhin Hiradhai Raveejai ||1|| Rehaao ||
लाहा कलजुगि राम नामु है गुरमति अनदिनु हिरदै रवीजै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Lord's Name is the source of profit. Contemplate and appreciate the Guru's Teachings within your heart, night and day. ||1||Pause||
ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥
Baabeehaa Khin Khin Bilalaae ||
बाबीहा खिनु खिनु बिललाइ ॥
Each and every instant, the rainbird cries and calls.
ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਦੇਖੇ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
Bin Pir Dhaekhae Nanaeedh N Paae ||
बिनु पिर देखे नींद न पाइ ॥
Without seeing her Beloved, she does not sleep at all.
ਇਹੁ ਵੇਛੋੜਾ ਸਹਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
Eihu Vaeshhorraa Sehiaa N Jaae ||
इहु वेछोड़ा सहिआ न जाइ ॥
She cannot endure this separation.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੨॥
Sathigur Milai Thaan Milai Subhaae ||2||
सतिगुरु मिलै तां मिलै सुभाइ ॥२॥
When she meets the True Guru, then she intuitively meets her Beloved. ||2||
ਨਾਮਹੀਣੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
Naameheen Binasai Dhukh Paae ||
नामहीणु बिनसै दुखु पाइ ॥
Lacking the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mortal suffers and dies.
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਿਆ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
Thrisanaa Jaliaa Bhookh N Jaae ||
त्रिसना जलिआ भूख न जाइ ॥
He is burnt in the fire of desire, and his hunger does not depart.
ਵਿਣੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
Vin Bhaagaa Naam N Paaeiaa Jaae ||
विणु भागा नामु न पाइआ जाइ ॥
Without good destiny, he cannot find the Naam.
ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਥਾਕਾ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
Bahu Bidhh Thhaakaa Karam Kamaae ||3||
बहु बिधि थाका करम कमाइ ॥३॥
He performs all sorts of rituals until he is exhausted. ||3||
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਾਣੀ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
Thrai Gun Baanee Baedh Beechaar ||
त्रै गुण बाणी बेद बीचारु ॥
The mortal thinks about the Vedic teachings of the three gunas, the three dispositions.
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥
Bikhiaa Mail Bikhiaa Vaapaar ||
बिखिआ मैलु बिखिआ वापारु ॥
He deals in corruption, filth and vice.
ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
Mar Janamehi Fir Hohi Khuaar ||
मरि जनमहि फिरि होहि खुआरु ॥
He dies, only to be reborn; he is ruined over and over again.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤੁਰੀਆ ਗੁਣੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
Guramukh Thureeaa Gun Our Dhhaar ||4||
गुरमुखि तुरीआ गुणु उरि धारु ॥४॥
The Gurmukh enshrines the glory of the supreme state of celestial peace. ||4||
ਗੁਰੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਮਾਨੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
Gur Maanai Maanai Sabh Koe ||
गुरु मानै मानै सभु कोइ ॥
One who has faith in the Guru - everyone has faith in him.
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Gur Bachanee Man Seethal Hoe ||
गुर बचनी मनु सीतलु होइ ॥
Through the Guru's Word, the mind is cooled and soothed.
ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
Chahu Jug Sobhaa Niramal Jan Soe ||
चहु जुगि सोभा निरमल जनु सोइ ॥
Throughout the four ages, that humble being is known to be pure.

Night and day, I meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, within my heart; through the Guru's Teachings, my pain is forgotten.
ਸਭ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੂਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
Sabh Aasaa Manasaa Bandhhan Thoottae Har Har Prabh Kirapaa Dhhaaree ||1||
सभ आसा मनसा बंधन तूटे हरि हरि प्रभि किरपा धारी ॥१॥
The chains of all my hopes and desires have been snapped; my Lord God has showered me with His Mercy. ||1||
ਨੈਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਤਾਰੀ ॥
Nainee Har Har Laagee Thaaree ||
नैनी हरि हरि लागी तारी ॥
My eyes gaze eternally on the Lord, Har, Har.
