Gur Sabadh Rathae Sadhaa Bairaagee Har Dharageh Saachee Paavehi Maan ||2||
गुर सबदि रते सदा बैरागी हरि दरगह साची पावहि मानु ॥२॥
Imbued with the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they remain forever detached. They are honored in the True Court of the Lord. ||2||
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਖੇਲੈ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਾ ਬਾਧਾ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
Eihu Man Khaelai Hukam Kaa Baadhhaa Eik Khin Mehi Dheh Dhis Fir Aavai ||
इहु मनु खेलै हुकम का बाधा इक खिन महि दह दिस फिरि आवै ॥
This mind plays, subject to the Lord's Will; in an instant, it wanders out in the ten directions and returns home again.
ਜਾਂ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਤਾਂ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਵਸਿ ਆਵੈ ॥੩॥
Jaan Aapae Nadhar Karae Har Prabh Saachaa Thaan Eihu Man Guramukh Thathakaal Vas Aavai ||3||
जां आपे नदरि करे हरि प्रभु साचा तां इहु मनु गुरमुखि ततकाल वसि आवै ॥३॥
When the True Lord God Himself bestows His Glance of Grace, then this mind is instantly brought under control by the Gurmukh. ||3||
ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਨ ਹੂ ਜਾਣੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
Eis Man Kee Bidhh Man Hoo Jaanai Boojhai Sabadh Veechaar ||
इसु मन की बिधि मन हू जाणै बूझै सबदि वीचारि ॥
The mortal comes to know the ways and means of the mind, realizing and contemplating the Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਦਾ ਤੂ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੪॥੬॥

नानक नामु धिआइ सदा तू भव सागरु जितु पावहि पारि ॥४॥६॥

Jeeo Pindd Praan Sabh This Kae Ghatt Ghatt Rehiaa Samaaee ||
जीउ पिंडु प्राण सभि तिस के घटि घटि रहिआ समाई ॥
Soul, body and breath of life are all His; He is permeating and pervading each and every heart.
ਏਕਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੧॥
Eaekas Bin Mai Avar N Jaanaa Sathigur Dheeaa Bujhaaee ||1||
एकसु बिनु मै अवरु न जाणा सतिगुरि दीआ बुझाई ॥१॥
Except the One Lord, I do not know any other at all. The True Guru has revealed this to me. ||1||

अदिसटु अगोचरु अपर्मपरु करता गुर कै सबदि हरि धिआई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

मनु तनु भीजै एक लिव लागै सहजे रहे समाई ॥
Mind and body are pleased, lovingly attuned to the One Lord, intuitively absorbed in peace and poise.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ਏਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੨॥
Gur Parasaadhee Bhram Bho Bhaagai Eaek Naam Liv Laaee ||2||
गुर परसादी भ्रमु भउ भागै एक नामि लिव लाई ॥२॥
By Guru's Grace, doubt and fear are dispelled, being lovingly attuned to the One Name. ||2||
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਸਚੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
Gur Bachanee Sach Kaar Kamaavai Gath Math Thab Hee Paaee ||
गुर बचनी सचु कार कमावै गति मति तब ही पाई ॥
When the mortal follows the Guru's Teachings, and lives the Truth, then he attains the state of emancipation.
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਤਿਨਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੩॥
Kott Madhhae Kisehi Bujhaaeae Thin Raam Naam Liv Laaee ||3||
कोटि मधे किसहि बुझाए तिनि राम नामि लिव लाई ॥३॥
Among millions, how rare is that one who understands, and is lovingly attuned to the Name of the Lord. ||3||
ਜਹ ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ਇਹ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
Jeh Jeh Dhaekhaa Theh Eaeko Soee Eih Guramath Budhh Paaee ||
जह जह देखा तह एको सोई इह गुरमति बुधि पाई ॥
Wherever I look, there I see the One. This understanding has come through the Guru's Teachings.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਧਰੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੪॥੭॥
Man Than Praan Dhharanaee This Aagai Naanak Aap Gavaaee ||4||7||
मनु तनु प्रान धरीं तिसु आगै नानक आपु गवाई ॥४॥७॥
I place my mind, body and breath of life in offering before Him; O Nanak, self-conceit is gone. ||4||7||

मेरा प्रभु साचा दूख निवारणु सबदे पाइआ जाई ॥
My True Lord God, the Eradicator of suffering, is found through the Word of the Shabad.
ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਦ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥

मेरा प्रभु अति अगम अगोचरु गुरमति देइ बुझाई ॥
My God is totally Inaccessible and Unfathomable; through the Guru's Teachings, He is understood.
ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੨॥
Sach Sanjam Karanee Har Keerath Har Saethee Liv Laaee ||2||
सचु संजमु करणी हरि कीरति हरि सेती लिव लाई ॥२॥
True self-discipline rests in singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, lovingly attuned to the Lord. ||2||
ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਖੀ ਆਪੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥
Aapae Sabadh Sach Saakhee Aapae Jinh Jothee Joth Milaaee ||
आपे सबदु सचु साखी आपे जिन्ह जोती जोति मिलाई ॥
He Himself is the Shabad, and He Himself is the True Teachings; He merges our light into the Light.
ਦੇਹੀ ਕਾਚੀ ਪਉਣੁ ਵਜਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥
Dhaehee Kaachee Poun Vajaaeae Guramukh Anmrith Paaee ||3||
देही काची पउणु वजाए गुरमुखि अम्रितु पाई ॥३॥
The breath vibrates through this frail body; the Gurmukh obtains the ambrosial nectar. ||3||
ਆਪੇ ਸਾਜੇ ਸਭ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਏ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
Aapae Saajae Sabh Kaarai Laaeae So Sach Rehiaa Samaaee ||
आपे साजे सभ कारै लाए सो सचु रहिआ समाई ॥
He Himself fashions, and He Himself links us to our tasks; the True Lord is pervading everywhere.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੪॥੮॥
Naanak Naam Binaa Koee Kishh Naahee Naamae Dhaee Vaddaaee ||4||8||
नानक नाम बिना कोई किछु नाही नामे देइ वडाई ॥४॥८॥
O Nanak, without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, no one is anything. Through the Naam,we are blessed with glory. ||4||8||

हउमै बिखु मनु मोहिआ लदिआ अजगर भारी ॥
The mortal is enticed by the poison of corruption, burdened with such a heavy load.
ਗਰੁੜੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
Garurr Sabadh Mukh Paaeiaa Houmai Bikh Har Maaree ||1||
गरुड़ु सबदु मुखि पाइआ हउमै बिखु हरि मारी ॥१॥
The Lord has placed the magic spell of the Shabad into his mouth, and destroyed the poison of ego. ||1||
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
Man Rae Houmai Mohu Dhukh Bhaaree ||
मन रे हउमै मोहु दुखु भारी ॥
O mortal, egotism and attachment are such heavy loads of pain.
ਇਹੁ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਤਰਣਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਤਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Eihu Bhavajal Jagath N Jaaee Tharanaa Guramukh Thar Har Thaaree ||1|| Rehaao ||
इहु भवजलु जगतु न जाई तरणा गुरमुखि तरु हरि तारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
This terrifying world-ocean cannot be crossed; through the Lord's Name, the Gurmukh crosses over to the other side. ||1||Pause||
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਸਭ ਵਰਤੈ ਆਕਾਰੀ ॥
Thrai Gun Maaeiaa Mohu Pasaaraa Sabh Varathai Aakaaree ||
त्रै गुण माइआ मोहु पसारा सभ वरतै आकारी ॥
Attachment to the three-phased show of Maya pervades all the created forms.
ਤੁਰੀਆ ਗੁਣੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
Thureeaa Gun Sathasangath Paaeeai Nadharee Paar Outhaaree ||2||
तुरीआ गुणु सतसंगति पाईऐ नदरी पारि उतारी ॥२॥
In the Sat Sangat, the Society of the Saints, the state of supreme awareness is attained. The Merciful Lord carries us across. ||2||
ਚੰਦਨ ਗੰਧ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਬਹਕਾਰਿ ॥

चंदन गंध सुगंध है बहु बासना बहकारि ॥
The smell of sandalwood is so sublime; its fragrance spreads out far and wide.
