सलोक मः ५ ॥
Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਟੋਲਾ ਤੈ ਸਹਿ ਦਿਤਾ ਢਕਣ ਕੂ ਪਤਿ ਮੇਰੀ ॥
Praem Pattolaa Thai Sehi Dhithaa Dtakan Koo Path Maeree ||
प्रेम पटोला तै सहि दिता ढकण कू पति मेरी ॥
O Husband Lord, You have given me the silk gown of Your Love to cover and protect my honor.
ਦਾਨਾ ਬੀਨਾ ਸਾਈ ਮੈਡਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਤੇਰੀ ॥੧॥
Dhaanaa Beenaa Saaee Maiddaa Naanak Saar N Jaanaa Thaeree ||1||
दाना बीना साई मैडा नानक सार न जाणा तेरी ॥१॥
You are all-wise and all-knowing, O my Master; Nanak: I have not appreciated Your value, Lord. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:
ਤੈਡੈ ਸਿਮਰਣਿ ਹਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਲਧਮੁ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਨ ਡਿਠਮੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
Thaiddai Simaran Habh Kishh Ladhham Bikham N Dditham Koee ||
तैडै सिमरणि हभु किछु लधमु बिखमु न डिठमु कोई ॥
By Your meditative remembrance, I have found everything; nothing seems difficult to me.
ਜਿਸੁ ਪਤਿ ਰਖੈ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੨॥
Jis Path Rakhai Sachaa Saahib Naanak Maett N Sakai Koee ||2||
जिसु पति रखै सचा साहिबु नानक मेटि न सकै कोई ॥२॥
One whose honor the True Lord Master has preserved - O Nanak, no one can dishonor him. ||2||

Pauree:
ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਣਾ ਦਯਿ ਧਿਆਇਐ ॥
Hovai Sukh Ghanaa Dhay Dhhiaaeiai ||
होवै सुखु घणा दयि धिआइऐ ॥
Meditating on the Lord, there comes a great peace.
ਵੰਞੈ ਰੋਗਾ ਘਾਣਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਐ ॥
Vannjai Rogaa Ghaan Har Gun Gaaeiai ||
वंञै रोगा घाणि हरि गुण गाइऐ ॥
Multitudes of illnesses vanish, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਠਾਢਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਇਐ ॥
Andhar Varathai Thaadt Prabh Chith Aaeiai ||
अंदरि वरतै ठाढि प्रभि चिति आइऐ ॥
Utter peace pervades within, when God comes to mind.
ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਆਸ ਨਾਇ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਐ ॥
Pooran Hovai Aas Naae Mann Vasaaeiai ||
पूरन होवै आस नाइ मंनि वसाइऐ ॥
One's hopes are fulfilled, when one's mind is filled with the Name.
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਐ ॥
Koe N Lagai Bighan Aap Gavaaeiai ||
कोइ न लगै बिघनु आपु गवाइऐ ॥
No obstacles stand in the way, when one eliminates his self-conceit.
ਗਿਆਨ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਐ ॥
Giaan Padhaarathh Math Gur Thae Paaeiai ||
गिआन पदारथु मति गुर ते पाइऐ ॥
The intellect attains the blessing of spiritual wisdom from the Guru.
ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਏ ਸਭੇ ਥੋਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਦਿਵਾਇਐ ॥
Thin Paaeae Sabhae Thhok Jis Aap Dhivaaeiai ||
तिनि पाए सभे थोक जिसु आपि दिवाइऐ ॥
He receives everything, unto whom the Lord Himself gives.
ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਛਾਇਐ ॥੮॥
Thoon Sabhanaa Kaa Khasam Sabh Thaeree Shhaaeiai ||8||
तूं सभना का खसमु सभ तेरी छाइऐ ॥८॥
You are the Lord and Master of all; all are under Your Protection. ||8||

ਨਦੀ ਤਰੰਦੜੀ ਮੈਡਾ ਖੋਜੁ ਨ ਖੁੰਭੈ ਮੰਝਿ ਮੁਹਬਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
Nadhee Tharandharree Maiddaa Khoj N Khunbhai Manjh Muhabath Thaeree ||
नदी तरंदड़ी मैडा खोजु न खु्मभै मंझि मुहबति तेरी ॥
Crossing the stream, my foot does not get stuck - I am filled with love for You.
ਤਉ ਸਹ ਚਰਣੀ ਮੈਡਾ ਹੀਅੜਾ ਸੀਤਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੁਲਹਾ ਬੇੜੀ ॥੧॥
Tho Seh Charanee Maiddaa Heearraa Seetham Har Naanak Thulehaa Baerree ||1||
तउ सह चरणी मैडा हीअड़ा सीतमु हरि नानक तुलहा बेड़ी ॥१॥
O Lord, my heart is attached to Your Feet; the Lord is Nanak's raft and boat. ||1||

ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਦਿਸੰਦੜਿਆ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਵੰਞੈ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਅਸਾਡੜੇ ਸੇਈ ॥
Jinhaa Dhisandharriaa Dhuramath Vannjai Mithr Asaaddarrae Saeee ||
जिन्हा दिसंदड़िआ दुरमति वंञै मित्र असाडड़े सेई ॥
The sight of them banishes my evil-mindedness; they are my only true friends.
ਹਉ ਢੂਢੇਦੀ ਜਗੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕੇਈ ॥੨॥
Ho Dtoodtaedhee Jag Sabaaeiaa Jan Naanak Viralae Kaeee ||2||
हउ ढूढेदी जगु सबाइआ जन नानक विरले केई ॥२॥
I have searched the whole world; O servant Nanak, how rare are such persons! ||2||

ਆਵੈ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਤੇਰਿਆ ਭਗਤਾ ਡਿਠਿਆ ॥
Aavai Saahib Chith Thaeriaa Bhagathaa Ddithiaa ||
आवै साहिबु चिति तेरिआ भगता डिठिआ ॥
You come to mind, O Lord and Master, when I behold Your devotees.
ਮਨ ਕੀ ਕਟੀਐ ਮੈਲੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਵੁਠਿਆ ॥
Man Kee Katteeai Mail Saadhhasang Vuthiaa ||
मन की कटीऐ मैलु साधसंगि वुठिआ ॥
The filth of my mind is removed, when I dwell in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭਉ ਕਟੀਐ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਜਪਿ ॥
Janam Maran Bho Katteeai Jan Kaa Sabadh Jap ||
जनम मरण भउ कटीऐ जन का सबदु जपि ॥
The fear of birth and death is dispelled, meditating on the Word of His humble servant.
ਬੰਧਨ ਖੋਲਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਦੂਤ ਸਭਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਛਪਿ ॥
Bandhhan Kholanih Santh Dhooth Sabh Jaahi Shhap ||
बंधन खोलन्हि संत दूत सभि जाहि छपि ॥
The Saints untie the bonds, and all the demons are dispelled.
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਧਾਰੀਆ ॥
This Sio Laaeinih Rang Jis Dhee Sabh Dhhaareeaa ||
तिसु सिउ लाइन्हि रंगु जिस दी सभ धारीआ ॥
They inspire us to love Him, the One who established the entire universe.
ਊਚੀ ਹੂੰ ਊਚਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੀਆ ॥
Oochee Hoon Oochaa Thhaan Agam Apaareeaa ||
ऊची हूं ऊचा थानु अगम अपारीआ ॥
The seat of the inaccessible and infinite Lord is the highest of the high.
ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
Rain Dhinas Kar Jorr Saas Saas Dhhiaaeeai ||
रैणि दिनसु कर जोड़ि सासि सासि धिआईऐ ॥
Night and day, with your palms pressed together, with each and every breath, meditate on Him.
ਜਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਾਂ ਭਗਤ ਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੯॥
Jaa Aapae Hoe Dhaeiaal Thaan Bhagath Sang Paaeeai ||9||
जा आपे होइ दइआलु तां भगत संगु पाईऐ ॥९॥
When the Lord Himself becomes merciful, then we attain the Society of His devotees. ||9||

Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਬਾਰਿ ਵਿਡਾਨੜੈ ਹੁੰਮਸ ਧੁੰਮਸ ਕੂਕਾ ਪਈਆ ਰਾਹੀ ॥
Baar Viddaanarrai Hunmas Dhhunmas Kookaa Peeaa Raahee ||
बारि विडानड़ै हुमस धुमस कूका पईआ राही ॥
In this wondrous forest of the world, there is chaos and confusion; shrieks emanate from the highways.
ਤਉ ਸਹ ਸੇਤੀ ਲਗੜੀ ਡੋਰੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਦ ਸੇਤੀ ਬਨੁ ਗਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
Tho Seh Saethee Lagarree Ddoree Naanak Anadh Saethee Ban Gaahee ||1||
तउ सह सेती लगड़ी डोरी नानक अनद सेती बनु गाही ॥१॥
I am in love with You, O my Husband Lord; O Nanak, I cross the jungle joyfully. ||1||

ਸਚੀ ਬੈਸਕ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਿਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਨਾਉ ॥
Sachee Baisak Thinhaa Sang Jin Sang Japeeai Naao ||
सची बैसक तिन्हा संगि जिन संगि जपीऐ नाउ ॥
The true society is the company of those who meditate on the Name of the Lord.
ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਕੀਚਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੁਆਉ ॥੨॥
Thinh Sang Sang N Keechee Naanak Jinaa Aapanaa Suaao ||2||
तिन्ह संगि संगु न कीचई नानक जिना आपणा सुआउ ॥२॥
Do not associate with those, O Nanak, who look out only for their own interests. ||2||

ਸਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ॥
Saa Vaelaa Paravaan Jith Sathigur Bhaettiaa ||
सा वेला परवाणु जितु सतिगुरु भेटिआ ॥
Approved is that time, when one meets the True Guru.
ਹੋਆ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖ ਨ ਤੇਟਿਆ ॥
Hoaa Saadhhoo Sang Fir Dhookh N Thaettiaa ||
होआ साधू संगु फिरि दूख न तेटिआ ॥
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, he does not suffer pain again.
ਪਾਇਆ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਥਾਨੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਗਰਭਿ ਨ ਲੇਟਿਆ ॥
Paaeiaa Nihachal Thhaan Fir Garabh N Laettiaa ||
पाइआ निहचलु थानु फिरि गरभि न लेटिआ ॥
When he attains the eternal place, he does not have to enter the womb again.
ਨਦਰੀ ਆਇਆ ਇਕੁ ਸਗਲ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇਟਿਆ ॥
Nadharee Aaeiaa Eik Sagal Brehamaettiaa ||
नदरी आइआ इकु सगल ब्रहमेटिआ ॥
He comes to see the One God everywhere.
ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਲਾਇ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਮੇਟਿਆ ॥
Thath Giaan Laae Dhhiaan Dhrisatt Samaettiaa ||
ततु गिआनु लाइ धिआनु द्रिसटि समेटिआ ॥
He focuses his meditation on the essence of spiritual wisdom, and withdraws his attention from other sights.
ਸਭੋ ਜਪੀਐ ਜਾਪੁ ਜਿ ਮੁਖਹੁ ਬੋਲੇਟਿਆ ॥
Sabho Japeeai Jaap J Mukhahu Bolaettiaa ||
सभो जपीऐ जापु जि मुखहु बोलेटिआ ॥
All chants are chanted by one who chants them with his mouth.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਬੁਝਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ਸੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੇਟਿਆ ॥
Hukamae Bujh Nihaal Sukh Sukhaettiaa ||
हुकमे बुझि निहालु सुखि सुखेटिआ ॥
Realizing the Hukam of the Lord's Command, he becomes happy, and he is filled with peace and tranquility.
ਪਰਖਿ ਖਜਾਨੈ ਪਾਏ ਸੇ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਖੋਟਿਆ ॥੧੦॥
Parakh Khajaanai Paaeae Sae Bahurr N Khottiaa ||10||
परखि खजानै पाए से बहुड़ि न खोटिआ ॥१०॥
Those who are assayed, and placed in the Lord's treasury, are not declared counterfeit again. ||10||

ਵਿਛੋਹੇ ਜੰਬੂਰ ਖਵੇ ਨ ਵੰਞਨਿ ਗਾਖੜੇ ॥
Vishhohae Janboor Khavae N Vannjan Gaakharrae ||
विछोहे ज्मबूर खवे न वंञनि गाखड़े ॥
The pincers of separation are so painful to endure.
ਜੇ ਸੋ ਧਣੀ ਮਿਲੰਨਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖ ਸੰਬੂਹ ਸਚੁ ॥੧॥
Jae So Dhhanee Milann Naanak Sukh Sanbooh Sach ||1||
जे सो धणी मिलंनि नानक सुख स्मबूह सचु ॥१॥
If only the Master would come to meet me! O Nanak, I would then obtain all the true comforts. ||1||
