गुरमुखि जाति पति सचु सोइ ॥
The True Lord is the social status and honor of the Gurmukh.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਖਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
Guramukh Anthar Sakhaaee Prabh Hoe ||2||
गुरमुखि अंतरि सखाई प्रभु होइ ॥२॥
Within the Gurmukh, is God, his friend and helper. ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਹੋਇ ॥
Guramukh Jis No Aap Karae So Hoe ||
गुरमुखि जिस नो आपि करे सो होइ ॥
He alone becomes Gurmukh, whom the Lord so blesses.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪਿ ਵਡਾਈ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
Guramukh Aap Vaddaaee Dhaevai Soe ||3||
गुरमुखि आपि वडाई देवै सोइ ॥३॥
He Himself blesses the Gurmukh with greatness. ||3||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
Guramukh Sabadh Sach Karanee Saar ||
गुरमुखि सबदु सचु करणी सारु ॥
The Gurmukh lives the True Word of the Shabad, and practices good deeds.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਵਾਰੈ ਸਾਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੬॥

My tongue is intuitively attracted to the taste of the Lord.

मनु त्रिपतिआ हरि नामु धिआइ ॥१॥
My mind is satisfied, meditating on the Name of the Lord. ||1||

My eyes are content, lovingly focused on the One Lord.

मनु संतोखिआ दूजा भाउ गवाइ ॥२॥
My mind is content, having forsaken the love of duality. ||2||
ਦੇਹ ਸਰੀਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
Dhaeh Sareer Sukh Hovai Sabadh Har Naae ||
देह सरीरि सुखु होवै सबदि हरि नाइ ॥
The frame of my body is at peace, through the Shabad, and the Name of the Lord.
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਮਲੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥

नामु परमलु हिरदै रहिआ समाइ ॥३॥
The fragrance of the Naam permeates my heart. ||3||

O Nanak, one who has such great destiny written upon his forehead,

From the Perfect Guru, the Naam is obtained.

निरमलु नामु वसै मनि आइ ॥२॥
The Immaculate Naam comes to abide within the mind. ||2||

Bharamae Bhoolaa Firai Sansaar ||
भरमे भूला फिरै संसारु ॥
Deluded by doubt, the world wanders around.
ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਜਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੩॥
Mar Janamai Jam Karae Khuaar ||3||
मरि जनमै जमु करे खुआरु ॥३॥
It dies, and is born again, and is ruined by the Messenger of Death. ||3||

O Nanak, very fortunate are those who meditate on the Name of the Lord.

Houmai Naavai Naal Virodhh Hai Dhue N Vasehi Eik Thaae ||
हउमै नावै नालि विरोधु है दुइ न वसहि इक ठाइ ॥
Ego is opposed to the Name of the Lord; the two do not dwell in the same place.
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
Houmai Vich Saevaa N Hovee Thaa Man Birathhaa Jaae ||1||
हउमै विचि सेवा न होवई ता मनु बिरथा जाइ ॥१॥
In egotism, selfless service cannot be performed, and so the soul goes unfulfilled. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
Har Chaeth Man Maerae Thoo Gur Kaa Sabadh Kamaae ||
हरि चेति मन मेरे तू गुर का सबदु कमाइ ॥
O my mind, think of the Lord, and practice the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨਹਿ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Hukam Mannehi Thaa Har Milai Thaa Vichahu Houmai Jaae || Rehaao ||
हुकमु मंनहि ता हरि मिलै ता विचहु हउमै जाइ ॥ रहाउ ॥
If you submit to the Hukam of the Lord's Command, then you shall meet with the Lord; only then will your ego depart from within. ||Pause||
ਹਉਮੈ ਸਭੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਓਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
Houmai Sabh Sareer Hai Houmai Oupath Hoe ||
हउमै सभु सरीरु है हउमै ओपति होइ ॥
Egotism is within all bodies; through egotism, we come to be born.
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਡਾ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਬੁਝਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥
Houmai Vaddaa Gubaar Hai Houmai Vich Bujh N Sakai Koe ||2||
हउमै वडा गुबारु है हउमै विचि बुझि न सकै कोइ ॥२॥
Egotism is total darkness; in egotism, no one can understand anything. ||2||
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
Houmai Vich Bhagath N Hovee Hukam N Bujhiaa Jaae ||
हउमै विचि भगति न होवई हुकमु न बुझिआ जाइ ॥
In egotism, devotional worship cannot be performed, and the Hukam of the Lord's Command cannot be understood.
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੀਉ ਬੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੩॥
Houmai Vich Jeeo Bandhh Hai Naam N Vasai Man Aae ||3||
हउमै विचि जीउ बंधु है नामु न वसै मनि आइ ॥३॥
In egotism, the soul is in bondage, and the Naam, the Name of the Lord, does not come to abide in the mind. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਈ ਤਾ ਸਚੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
Naanak Sathagur Miliai Houmai Gee Thaa Sach Vasiaa Man Aae ||
नानक सतगुरि मिलिऐ हउमै गई ता सचु वसिआ मनि आइ ॥
O Nanak, meeting with the True Guru, egotism is eliminated, and then, the True Lord comes to dwell in the mind||
ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੯॥੧੨॥

सचु कमावै सचि रहै सचे सेवि समाइ ॥४॥९॥१२॥
One starts practicing truth, abides in truth and by serving the True One gets absorbed in Him. ||4||9||12||
