ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
Maaeiaa Mohu Anthar Mal Laagai Maaeiaa Kae Vaapaaraa Raam ||
माइआ मोहु अंतरि मलु लागै माइआ के वापारा राम ॥
The filth of attachment to Maya clings to their hearts; they deal in Maya alone.
ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਜਗਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਵਣਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
Maaeiaa Kae Vaapaaraa Jagath Piaaraa Aavan Jaan Dhukh Paaee ||
माइआ के वापारा जगति पिआरा आवणि जाणि दुखु पाई ॥
They love to deal in Maya in this world; coming and going, they suffer in pain.
ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗਾ ਬਿਸ੍ਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
Bikh Kaa Keerraa Bikh Sio Laagaa Bistaa Maahi Samaaee ||
बिखु का कीड़ा बिखु सिउ लागा बिस्टा माहि समाई ॥
The worm of poison is addicted to poison; it is immersed in manure.
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋਇ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
Jo Dhhur Likhiaa Soe Kamaavai Koe N Maettanehaaraa ||
जो धुरि लिखिआ सोइ कमावै कोइ न मेटणहारा ॥
He does what is pre-ordained for him; no one can erase his destiny.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਰਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਕੂਕਿ ਮੁਏ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
Naanak Naam Rathae Thin Sadhaa Sukh Paaeiaa Hor Moorakh Kook Mueae Gaavaaraa ||3||
नानक नामि रते तिन सदा सुखु पाइआ होरि मूरख कूकि मुए गावारा ॥३॥
O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, lasting peace is found; the ignorant fools die screaming. ||3||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
Maaeiaa Mohi Man Rangiaa Mohi Sudhh N Kaaee Raam ||
माइआ मोहि मनु रंगिआ मोहि सुधि न काई राम ॥
Their minds are colored by emotional attachment to Maya; because of this emotional attachment, they do not understand.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗੀਐ ਦੂਜਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਜਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
Guramukh Eihu Man Rangeeai Dhoojaa Rang Jaaee Raam ||
गुरमुखि इहु मनु रंगीऐ दूजा रंगु जाई राम ॥
The soul of the Gurmukh is imbued with the Lord's Love; the love of duality departs.
ਦੂਜਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਜਾਈ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਸਚਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
Dhoojaa Rang Jaaee Saach Samaaee Sach Bharae Bhanddaaraa ||
दूजा रंगु जाई साचि समाई सचि भरे भंडारा ॥
The love of duality departs, and the soul merges in Truth; the warehouse is overflowing with Truth.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
Guramukh Hovai Soee Boojhai Sach Savaaranehaaraa ||
गुरमुखि होवै सोई बूझै सचि सवारणहारा ॥
One who becomes Gurmukh, comes to understand; the Lord embellishes him with Truth.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥
Aapae Maelae So Har Milai Hor Kehanaa Kishhoo N Jaaeae ||
आपे मेले सो हरि मिलै होरु कहणा किछू न जाए ॥
He alone merges with the Lord, whom the Lord causes to merge; nothing else can be said or done.
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਇਕਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਏ ॥੪॥੫॥
Naanak Vin Naavai Bharam Bhulaaeiaa Eik Naam Rathae Rang Laaeae ||4||5||
नानक विणु नावै भरमि भुलाइआ इकि नामि रते रंगु लाए ॥४॥५॥
O Nanak, without the Name, one is deluded by doubt; but some, imbued with the Name, enshrine love for the Lord. ||4||5||

Eae Man Maeriaa Aavaa Goun Sansaar Hai Anth Sach Nibaerraa Raam ||
ए मन मेरिआ आवा गउणु संसारु है अंति सचि निबेड़ा राम ॥
O my mind, the world comes and goes in birth and death; only the True Name shall emancipate you in the end.
ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਫੇਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
Aapae Sachaa Bakhas Leae Fir Hoe N Faeraa Raam ||
आपे सचा बखसि लए फिरि होइ न फेरा राम ॥
When the True Lord Himself grants forgiveness, then one does not have to enter the cycle of reincarnation again.
ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਫੇਰਾ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਚਿ ਨਿਬੇੜਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
Fir Hoe N Faeraa Anth Sach Nibaerraa Guramukh Milai Vaddiaaee ||
फिरि होइ न फेरा अंति सचि निबेड़ा गुरमुखि मिलै वडिआई ॥
He does not have to enter the cycle of reincarnation again, and he is emancipated in the end; as Gurmukh, he obtains glorious greatness.
ਸਾਚੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
Saachai Rang Raathae Sehajae Maathae Sehajae Rehae Samaaee ||
साचै रंगि राते सहजे माते सहजे रहे समाई ॥
Imbued with love for the True Lord, he is intoxicated with celestial bliss, and he remains absorbed in the Celestial Lord.
ਸਚਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਅੰਤਿ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥
Sachaa Man Bhaaeiaa Sach Vasaaeiaa Sabadh Rathae Anth Nibaeraa ||
सचा मनि भाइआ सचु वसाइआ सबदि रते अंति निबेरा ॥
The True Lord is pleasing to his mind; he enshrines the True Lord in his mind; attuned to the Word of the Shabad, he is emancipated in the end.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਭਵਜਲਿ ਫੇਰਾ ॥੧॥
Naanak Naam Rathae Sae Sach Samaanae Bahur N Bhavajal Faeraa ||1||
नानक नामि रते से सचि समाणे बहुरि न भवजलि फेरा ॥१॥
O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Naam, merge in the True Lord; they are not cast into the terrifying world-ocean again. ||1||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਬਰਲੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
Maaeiaa Mohu Sabh Baral Hai Dhoojai Bhaae Khuaaee Raam ||
माइआ मोहु सभु बरलु है दूजै भाइ खुआई राम ॥
Emotional attachment to Maya is total madness; through the love of duality, one is ruined.
ਮਾਤਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਹੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਹੇਤੇ ਪਲਚਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
Maathaa Pithaa Sabh Haeth Hai Haethae Palachaaee Raam ||
माता पिता सभु हेतु है हेते पलचाई राम ॥
Mother and father - all are subject to this love; in this love, they are entangled.
ਹੇਤੇ ਪਲਚਾਈ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਈ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
Haethae Palachaaee Purab Kamaaee Maett N Sakai Koee ||
हेते पलचाई पुरबि कमाई मेटि न सकै कोई ॥
They are entangled in this love, on account of their past actions, which no one can erase.
ਜਿਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਾਜੀ ਸੋ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
Jin Srisatt Saajee So Kar Vaekhai This Jaevadd Avar N Koee ||
जिनि स्रिसटि साजी सो करि वेखै तिसु जेवडु अवरु न कोई ॥
The One who created the Universe, beholds it; no other is as great as He.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧਾ ਤਪਿ ਤਪਿ ਖਪੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਈ ॥
Manamukh Andhhaa Thap Thap Khapai Bin Sabadhai Saanth N Aaee ||
मनमुखि अंधा तपि तपि खपै बिनु सबदै सांति न आई ॥
The blind, self-willed manmukh is consumed by his burning rage; without the Word of the Shabad, peace is not obtained.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਭੁਲਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਈ ॥੨॥
Naanak Bin Naavai Sabh Koee Bhulaa Maaeiaa Mohi Khuaaee ||2||
नानक बिनु नावै सभु कोई भुला माइआ मोहि खुआई ॥२॥
O Nanak, without the Name, everyone is deluded, ruined by emotional attachment to Maya. ||2||
ਏਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਲਤਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਭਜਿ ਪਏ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
Eaehu Jag Jalathaa Dhaekh Kai Bhaj Peae Har Saranaaee Raam ||
एहु जगु जलता देखि कै भजि पए हरि सरणाई राम ॥
Seeing that this world on fire, I have hurried to the Sanctuary of the Lord.
ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਕਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਆਗੈ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
Aradhaas Karanaee Gur Poorae Aagai Rakh Laevahu Dhaehu Vaddaaee Raam ||
अरदासि करीं गुर पूरे आगै रखि लेवहु देहु वडाई राम ॥
I offer my prayer to the Perfect Guru: please save me, and bless me with Your glorious greatness.
ਰਖਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
Rakh Laevahu Saranaaee Har Naam Vaddaaee Thudhh Jaevadd Avar N Dhaathaa ||
रखि लेवहु सरणाई हरि नामु वडाई तुधु जेवडु अवरु न दाता ॥
Preserve me in Your Sanctuary, and bless me with the glorious greatness of the Name of the Lord; there is no other Giver as great as You.
ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
Saevaa Laagae Sae Vaddabhaagae Jug Jug Eaeko Jaathaa ||
सेवा लागे से वडभागे जुगि जुगि एको जाता ॥
Those who are engaged in serving You are very fortunate; throughout the ages, they know the One Lord.
ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
Jath Sath Sanjam Karam Kamaavai Bin Gur Gath Nehee Paaee ||
जतु सतु संजमु करम कमावै बिनु गुर गति नही पाई ॥
You may practice celibacy, truth, austere self-discipline and rituals, but without the Guru, you shall not be emancipated.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਜੋ ਜਾਇ ਪਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੩॥
Naanak This No Sabadh Bujhaaeae Jo Jaae Pavai Har Saranaaee ||3||
नानक तिस नो सबदु बुझाए जो जाइ पवै हरि सरणाई ॥३॥
O Nanak, he alone understands the Word of the Shabad, who goes and seeks the Lord's Sanctuary. ||3||
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ਸਾ ਊਪਜੈ ਹੋਰ ਮਤਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
Jo Har Math Dhaee Saa Oopajai Hor Math N Kaaee Raam ||
जो हरि मति देइ सा ऊपजै होर मति न काई राम ॥
That understanding, imparted by the Lord, wells up; there is no other understanding.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
Anthar Baahar Eaek Thoo Aapae Dhaehi Bujhaaee Raam ||
अंतरि बाहरि एकु तू आपे देहि बुझाई राम ॥
Deep within, and beyond as well, You alone are, O Lord; You Yourself impart this understanding.
ਆਪੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ॥
Aapae Dhaehi Bujhaaee Avar N Bhaaee Guramukh Har Ras Chaakhiaa ||
आपे देहि बुझाई अवर न भाई गुरमुखि हरि रसु चाखिआ ॥
One whom He Himself blesses with this understanding, does not love any other. As Gurmukh, he tastes the subtle essence of the Lord.
ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥
Dhar Saachai Sadhaa Hai Saachaa Saachai Sabadh Subhaakhiaa ||
दरि साचै सदा है साचा साचै सबदि सुभाखिआ ॥
In the True Court, he is forever True; with love, he chants the True Word of the Shabad.
