ਮਾਇਆ ਝੂਠੁ ਰੁਦਨੁ ਕੇਤੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਹੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
Maaeiaa Jhooth Rudhan Kaethae Bilalaahee Raam ||
माइआ झूठु रुदनु केते बिललाही राम ॥
It is useless to cry and whine about Maya, but so many cry out and bewail.
ਬਿਲਲਾਹਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ॥
Bilalaahi Kaethae Mehaa Mohan Bin Naam Har Kae Sukh Nehee ||
बिललाहि केते महा मोहन बिनु नाम हरि के सुखु नही ॥
So many cry out for Maya, the great enticer, but without the Name of the Lord, there is no peace.
ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਉਪਾਵ ਥਾਕੇ ਜਹ ਭਾਵਤ ਤਹ ਜਾਹੀ ॥
Sehas Siaanap Oupaav Thhaakae Jeh Bhaavath Theh Jaahee ||
सहस सिआणप उपाव थाके जह भावत तह जाही ॥
Thousands of clever tricks and efforts will not succeed. One goes wherever the Lord wills him to go.
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਮਧਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਆਹੀ ॥
Aadh Anthae Madhh Pooran Sarabathr Ghatt Ghatt Aahee ||
आदि अंते मधि पूरन सरबत्र घटि घटि आही ॥
In the beginning, in the middle, and in the end, He is all-pervading everywhere; He is in each and every heart.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਮੁ ਸੇ ਪਤਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
Binavanth Naanak Jin Saadhhasangam Sae Path Saethee Ghar Jaahee ||2||
बिनवंत नानक जिन साधसंगमु से पति सेती घरि जाही ॥२॥
Prays Nanak, those who join the Saadh Sangat go to the house of the Lord with honor. ||2||
ਨਰਪਤਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਓ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
Narapath Jaan Grehiou Saevak Siaanae Raam ||
नरपति जाणि ग्रहिओ सेवक सिआणे राम ॥
O king of mortals, know that your palaces and wise servants shall be of no use in the end.
ਸਰਪਰ ਵੀਛੁੜਣਾ ਮੋਹੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
Sarapar Veeshhurranaa Mohae Pashhuthaanae Raam ||
सरपर वीछुड़णा मोहे पछुताणे राम ॥
You shall certainly have to separate yourself from them, and their attachment shall make you feel regret.
ਹਰਿਚੰਦਉਰੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਕਹਾ ਅਸਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Harichandhouree Dhaekh Bhoolaa Kehaa Asathhith Paaeeai ||
हरिचंदउरी देखि भूला कहा असथिति पाईऐ ॥
Beholding the phantom city, you have gone astray; how can you now find stability?
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਆਨ ਰਚਨਾ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥
Bin Naam Har Kae Aan Rachanaa Ahilaa Janam Gavaaeeai ||
बिनु नाम हरि के आन रचना अहिला जनमु गवाईऐ ॥
Absorbed in things other than the Name of the Lord, this human life is wasted in vain.
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਹ ਕਾਂਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਗਿਆਨੇ ॥
Ho Ho Karath N Thrisan Boojhai Neh Kaanm Pooran Giaanae ||
हउ हउ करत न त्रिसन बूझै नह कांम पूरन गिआने ॥
Indulging in egotistical actions, your thirst is not quenched. Your desires are not fulfilled, and you do not attain spiritual wisdom.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਕੇਤਿਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੇ ॥੩॥

बिनवंति नानक बिनु नाम हरि के केतिआ पछुताने ॥३॥
Prays Nanak, without the Name of the Lord, so many have departed with regret. ||3||
ਧਾਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੋ ਅਪਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
Dhhaar Anugreho Apanaa Kar Leenaa Raam ||
धारि अनुग्रहो अपना करि लीना राम ॥
Showering His blessings, the Lord has made me His own.
ਭੁਜਾ ਗਹਿ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੀਓ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਦੀਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
Bhujaa Gehi Kaadt Leeou Saadhhoo Sang Dheenaa Raam ||
भुजा गहि काढि लीओ साधू संगु दीना राम ॥
Grasping me by the arm, He has pulled me out of the mud, and He has blessed me with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਰਾਧੇ ਸਗਲ ਕਲਮਲ ਦੁਖ ਜਲੇ ॥
Saadhhasangam Har Araadhhae Sagal Kalamal Dhukh Jalae ||
साधसंगमि हरि अराधे सगल कलमल दुख जले ॥
Worshipping the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, all my sins and sufferings are burnt away.
ਮਹਾ ਧਰਮ ਸੁਦਾਨ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੇ ਚਲੇ ॥
Mehaa Dhharam Sudhaan Kiriaa Sang Thaerai Sae Chalae ||
महा धरम सुदान किरिआ संगि तेरै से चले ॥
This is the greatest religion, and the best act of charity; this alone shall go along with you.
ਰਸਨਾ ਅਰਾਧੈ ਏਕੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਭੀਨਾ ॥
Rasanaa Araadhhai Eaek Suaamee Har Naam Man Than Bheenaa ||
रसना अराधै एकु सुआमी हरि नामि मनु तनु भीना ॥
My tongue chants in adoration the Name of the One Lord and Master; my mind and body are drenched in the Lord's Name.

Gur Saevaa Thae Sukh Paaeeai Hor Thhai Sukh N Bhaal ||
गुर सेवा ते सुखु पाईऐ होर थै सुखु न भालि ॥
Serving the Guru, peace is obtained; do not search for peace anywhere else.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਭੇਦੀਐ ਸਦਾ ਵਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
Gur Kai Sabadh Man Bhaedheeai Sadhaa Vasai Har Naal ||
गुर कै सबदि मनु भेदीऐ सदा वसै हरि नालि ॥
The soul is pierced by the Word of the Guru's Shabad. The Lord dwells ever with the soul.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥੧॥

नानक नामु तिना कउ मिलै जिन हरि वेखै नदरि निहालि ॥१॥
O Nanak, they alone obtain the Naam, the Name of the Lord, who are blessed by the Lord with His Glance of Grace. ||1||

ਸਿਫਤਿ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਬਖਸ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੈ ਸੋ ਖਰਚੈ ਖਾਇ ॥
Sifath Khajaanaa Bakhas Hai Jis Bakhasai So Kharachai Khaae ||
सिफति खजाना बखस है जिसु बखसै सो खरचै खाइ ॥
The treasure of the Lord's Praise is such a blessed gift; he alone obtains it to spend, unto whom the Lord bestows it.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਥਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਸਭ ਥਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
Sathigur Bin Hathh N Aavee Sabh Thhakae Karam Kamaae ||
सतिगुर बिनु हथि न आवई सभ थके करम कमाइ ॥
Without the True Guru, it does not come to hand; all have grown weary of performing religious rituals.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਧਨਹੀਣੁ ਹੈ ਅਗੈ ਭੁਖਾ ਕਿ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥
Naanak Manamukh Jagath Dhhaneheen Hai Agai Bhukhaa K Khaae ||2||
नानक मनमुखु जगतु धनहीणु है अगै भुखा कि खाइ ॥२॥
O Nanak, the self-willed manmukhs of the world lack this wealth; when they are hungry in the next world, what will they have to eat there? ||2||

सभ तेरी तू सभस दा सभ तुधु उपाइआ ॥
All are Yours, and You belong to all. You created all.
ਸਭਨਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਤੂ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਤੂ ਸਭਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
Sabhanaa Vich Thoo Varathadhaa Thoo Sabhanee Dhhiaaeiaa ||
सभना विचि तू वरतदा तू सभनी धिआइआ ॥
You are pervading within all - all meditate on You.
ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਤੂ ਭਗਤਿ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਇਹਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
This Dhee Thoo Bhagath Thhaae Paaeihi Jo Thudhh Man Bhaaeiaa ||
तिस दी तू भगति थाइ पाइहि जो तुधु मनि भाइआ ॥
You accept the devotional worship of those who are pleasing to Your Mind.
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਨਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥
Jo Har Prabh Bhaavai So Thheeai Sabh Karan Thaeraa Karaaeiaa ||
जो हरि प्रभ भावै सो थीऐ सभि करनि तेरा कराइआ ॥
Whatever pleases the Lord God happens; all act as You cause them to act.
ਸਲਾਹਿਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਤੇ ਵਡਾ ਜੋ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਦਾ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
Salaahihu Har Sabhanaa Thae Vaddaa Jo Santh Janaan Kee Paij Rakhadhaa Aaeiaa ||1||
सलाहिहु हरि सभना ते वडा जो संत जनां की पैज रखदा आइआ ॥१॥
Praise the Lord, the greatest of all; He preserves the honor of the Saints. ||1||

नानक गिआनी जगु जीता जगि जीता सभु कोइ ॥
O Nanak, the spiritually wise one has conquered all others.
ਨਾਮੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਿਧਿ ਹੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

नामे कारज सिधि है सहजे होइ सु होइ ॥
Through the Name, his affairs are brought to perfection; whatever happens is by His Will.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਅਚਲੁ ਹੈ ਚਲਾਇ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

गुरमति मति अचलु है चलाइ न सकै कोइ ॥
Under Guru's Instruction, his mind is held steady; no one can make him waver.
ਭਗਤਾ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
Bhagathaa Kaa Har Angeekaar Karae Kaaraj Suhaavaa Hoe ||
भगता का हरि अंगीकारु करे कारजु सुहावा होइ ॥
The Lord makes His devotee His own, and his affairs are adjusted.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੂਲਹੁ ਭੁਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
Manamukh Moolahu Bhulaaeian Vich Lab Lobh Ahankaar ||
मनमुख मूलहु भुलाइअनु विचि लबु लोभु अहंकारु ॥
The self-willed manmukhs have been led astray from the very beginning; within them lurks greed, avarice and ego.
