ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਹੋਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਜਾਸਹਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਖੋਇ ॥੨॥
Bin Saachae Hor Saalaahanaa Jaasehi Janam Sabh Khoe ||2||
बिनु साचे होरु सालाहणा जासहि जनमु सभु खोइ ॥२॥
By praising any other than the True Lord, one's whole life is wasted. ||2||
ਸਚੁ ਖੇਤੀ ਸਚੁ ਬੀਜਣਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥
Sach Khaethee Sach Beejanaa Saachaa Vaapaaraa ||
सचु खेती सचु बीजणा साचा वापारा ॥
Let Truth be the farm, Truth the seed, and Truth the merchandise you trade.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
Anadhin Laahaa Sach Naam Dhhan Bhagath Bharae Bhanddaaraa ||3||
अनदिनु लाहा सचु नामु धनु भगति भरे भंडारा ॥३॥
Night and day, you shall earn the profit of the Lord's Name; you shall have the treasure overflowing with the wealth of devotional worship. ||3||
ਸਚੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਟੇਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
Sach Khaanaa Sach Painanaa Sach Ttaek Har Naao ||
सचु खाणा सचु पैनणा सचु टेक हरि नाउ ॥
Let Truth be your food, and let Truth be your clothes; let your True Support be the Name of the Lord.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਹਲੀ ਪਾਏ ਥਾਉ ॥੪॥
Jis No Bakhasae This Milai Mehalee Paaeae Thhaao ||4||
जिस नो बखसे तिसु मिलै महली पाए थाउ ॥४॥
One who is so blessed by the Lord, obtains a seat in the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. ||4||
ਆਵਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
Aavehi Sachae Jaavehi Sachae Fir Joonee Mool N Paahi ||
आवहि सचे जावहि सचे फिरि जूनी मूलि न पाहि ॥
In Truth we come, and in Truth we go, and then, we are not consigned to reincarnation again.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਹਹਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੫॥
Guramukh Dhar Saachai Sachiaar Hehi Saachae Maahi Samaahi ||5||
गुरमुखि दरि साचै सचिआर हहि साचे माहि समाहि ॥५॥
The Gurmukhs are hailed as True in the True Court; they merge in the True Lord. ||5||
ਅੰਤਰੁ ਸਚਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਨਾਇ ॥
Anthar Sachaa Man Sachaa Sachee Sifath Sanaae ||
अंतरु सचा मनु सचा सची सिफति सनाइ ॥
Deep within they are True, and their minds are True; they sing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord.
ਸਚੈ ਥਾਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੬॥
Sachai Thhaan Sach Saalaahanaa Sathigur Balihaarai Jaao ||6||
सचै थानि सचु सालाहणा सतिगुर बलिहारै जाउ ॥६॥
In the true place, they praise the True Lord; I am a sacrifice to the True Guru. ||6||
ਸਚੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਮੂਰਤੁ ਸਚੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
Sach Vaelaa Moorath Sach Jith Sachae Naal Piaar ||
सचु वेला मूरतु सचु जितु सचे नालि पिआरु ॥
True is the time, and true is the moment, when one falls in love with the True Lord.
ਸਚੁ ਵੇਖਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਸਚਾ ਸਭੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥੭॥
Sach Vaekhanaa Sach Bolanaa Sachaa Sabh Aakaar ||7||
सचु वेखणा सचु बोलणा सचा सभु आकारु ॥७॥
Then, he sees Truth, and speaks the Truth; he realizes the True Lord pervading the entire Universe. ||7||
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੈ ਮੇਲੇ ਤਾ ਮਿਲੇ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
Naanak Sachai Maelae Thaa Milae Aapae Leae Milaae ||
नानक सचै मेले ता मिले आपे लए मिलाइ ॥
O Nanak, one merges with the True Lord, when He merges with Himself.
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖਸੀ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੮॥੧॥
Jio Bhaavai Thio Rakhasee Aapae Karae Rajaae ||8||1||
जिउ भावै तिउ रखसी आपे करे रजाइ ॥८॥१॥
As it pleases Him, He preserves us; He Himself ordains His Will. ||8||1||

Manooaa Dheh Dhis Dhhaavadhaa Ouhu Kaisae Har Gun Gaavai ||
मनूआ दह दिस धावदा ओहु कैसे हरि गुण गावै ॥
His mind wanders in the ten directions - how can he sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord?
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਵਿਆਪਿ ਰਹੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਤ ਸੰਤਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
Eindhree Viaap Rehee Adhhikaaee Kaam Krodhh Nith Santhaavai ||1||
इंद्री विआपि रही अधिकाई कामु क्रोधु नित संतावै ॥१॥
The sensory organs are totally engrossed in sensuality; sexual desire and anger constantly afflict him. ||1||
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥
Vaahu Vaahu Sehajae Gun Raveejai ||
वाहु वाहु सहजे गुण रवीजै ॥
Waaho! Waaho! Hail! Hail! Chant His Glorious Praises.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਲਭੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Raam Naam Eis Jug Mehi Dhulabh Hai Guramath Har Ras Peejai ||1|| Rehaao ||
राम नामु इसु जुग महि दुलभु है गुरमति हरि रसु पीजै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
The Lord's Name is so difficult to obtain in this age; under Guru's Instruction, drink in the subtle essence of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
Sabadh Cheen Man Niramal Hovai Thaa Har Kae Gun Gaavai ||
सबदु चीनि मनु निरमलु होवै ता हरि के गुण गावै ॥
Remembering the Word of the Shabad, the mind becomes immaculately pure, and then, one sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
Guramathee Aapai Aap Pashhaanai Thaa Nij Ghar Vaasaa Paavai ||2||
गुरमती आपै आपु पछाणै ता निज घरि वासा पावै ॥२॥
Under Guru's Instruction, one comes to understand his own self, and then, he comes to dwell in the home of his inner self. ||2||
ਏ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
Eae Man Maerae Sadhaa Rang Raathae Sadhaa Har Kae Gun Gaao ||
ए मन मेरे सदा रंगि राते सदा हरि के गुण गाउ ॥
O my mind, be imbued forever with the Lord's Love, and sing forever the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਉ ॥੩॥
Har Niramal Sadhaa Sukhadhaathaa Man Chindhiaa Fal Paao ||3||
हरि निरमलु सदा सुखदाता मनि चिंदिआ फलु पाउ ॥३॥
The Immaculate Lord is forever the Giver of peace; from Him, one receives the fruits of his heart's desires. ||3||
ਹਮ ਨੀਚ ਸੇ ਊਤਮ ਭਏ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
Ham Neech Sae Ootham Bheae Har Kee Saranaaee ||
हम नीच से ऊतम भए हरि की सरणाई ॥
I am lowly, but I have been exalted, entering the Sanctuary of the Lord.
ਪਾਥਰੁ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੀਆ ਸਾਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੪॥
Paathhar Ddubadhaa Kaadt Leeaa Saachee Vaddiaaee ||4||
पाथरु डुबदा काढि लीआ साची वडिआई ॥४॥
He has lifted up the sinking stone; True is His glorious greatness. ||4||
ਬਿਖੁ ਸੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਏ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
Bikh Sae Anmrith Bheae Guramath Budhh Paaee ||
बिखु से अम्रित भए गुरमति बुधि पाई ॥
From poison, I have been transformed into Ambrosial Nectar; under Guru's Instruction, I have obtained wisdom.
ਅਕਹੁ ਪਰਮਲ ਭਏ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਵਸਾਈ ॥੫॥
Akahu Paramal Bheae Anthar Vaasanaa Vasaaee ||5||
अकहु परमल भए अंतरि वासना वसाई ॥५॥
From bitter herbs, I have been transformed into sandalwood; this fragrance permeates me deep within. ||5||
ਮਾਣਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਹੈ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਖਟਿਆ ਆਇ ॥
Maanas Janam Dhulanbh Hai Jag Mehi Khattiaa Aae ||
माणस जनमु दुल्मभु है जग महि खटिआ आइ ॥
This human birth is so precious; one must earn the right to come into the world.
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੬॥
Poorai Bhaag Sathigur Milai Har Naam Dhhiaae ||6||
पूरै भागि सतिगुरु मिलै हरि नामु धिआइ ॥६॥
By perfect destiny, I met the True Guru, and I meditate on the Lord's Name. ||6||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਲਗੇ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
Manamukh Bhoolae Bikh Lagae Ahilaa Janam Gavaaeiaa ||
मनमुख भूले बिखु लगे अहिला जनमु गवाइआ ॥
The self-willed manmukhs are deluded; attached to corruption, they waste away their lives in vain.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੭॥
Har Kaa Naam Sadhaa Sukh Saagar Saachaa Sabadh N Bhaaeiaa ||7||
हरि का नामु सदा सुख सागरु साचा सबदु न भाइआ ॥७॥
The Name of the Lord is forever an ocean of peace, but the manmukhs do not love the Word of the Shabad. ||7||
ਮੁਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਕਰੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
Mukhahu Har Har Sabh Ko Karai Viralai Hiradhai Vasaaeiaa ||
मुखहु हरि हरि सभु को करै विरलै हिरदै वसाइआ ॥
Everyone can chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har with their mouths, but only a few enshrine it within their hearts.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਿਆ ਮੋਖ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੮॥੨॥
Naanak Jin Kai Hiradhai Vasiaa Mokh Mukath Thinh Paaeiaa ||8||2||
नानक जिन कै हिरदै वसिआ मोख मुकति तिन्ह पाइआ ॥८॥२॥
O Nanak, those who enshrine the Lord within their hearts, attain liberation and emancipation. ||8||2||

काइआ कूड़ि विगाड़ि काहे नाईऐ ॥
Why bother to wash the body, polluted by falsehood?
ਨਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥
Naathaa So Paravaan Sach Kamaaeeai ||
नाता सो परवाणु सचु कमाईऐ ॥
One's cleansing bath is only approved, if he practices Truth.
ਜਬ ਸਾਚ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਾਚਾ ਤਾਮਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Jab Saach Andhar Hoe Saachaa Thaam Saachaa Paaeeai ||
जब साच अंदरि होइ साचा तामि साचा पाईऐ ॥
When there is Truth within the heart, then one becomes True, and obtains the True Lord.
ਲਿਖੇ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਬੋਲਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥
Likhae Baajhahu Surath Naahee Bol Bol Gavaaeeai ||
लिखे बाझहु सुरति नाही बोलि बोलि गवाईऐ ॥
Without pre-ordained destiny, understanding is not attained; talking and babbling, one wastes his life away.
