ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਲਾ ਨਿਤ ਧੰਧਾ ਕਰਤ ਵਿਹਾਏ ॥
Kaam Krodhh Lobh Anthar Sabalaa Nith Dhhandhhaa Karath Vihaaeae ||
कामु क्रोधु लोभु अंतरि सबला नित धंधा करत विहाए ॥
Sexual desire, anger and greed are so powerful within him; he passes his life constantly entangled in worldly affairs.
ਚਰਣ ਕਰ ਦੇਖਤ ਸੁਣਿ ਥਕੇ ਦਿਹ ਮੁਕੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਏ ॥
Charan Kar Dhaekhath Sun Thhakae Dhih Mukae Naerrai Aaeae ||
चरण कर देखत सुणि थके दिह मुके नेड़ै आए ॥
His feet, hands, eyes and ears are exhausted; his days are numbered, and his death is immanent.
ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਮੀਠਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
Sachaa Naam N Lago Meethaa Jith Naam Nav Nidhh Paaeae ||
सचा नामु न लगो मीठा जितु नामि नव निधि पाए ॥
The True Name does not seem sweet to him - the Name by which the nine treasures are obtained.
ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਮਰੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਤਾਂ ਮੋਖੰਤਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Jeevath Marai Marai Fun Jeevai Thaan Mokhanthar Paaeae ||
जीवतु मरै मरै फुनि जीवै तां मोखंतरु पाए ॥
But if he remains dead while yet alive, then by so dying, he truly lives; thus, he attains liberation.
ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਪਰਾਣੀ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਆ ਪਾਏ ॥
Dhhur Karam N Paaeiou Paraanee Vin Karamaa Kiaa Paaeae ||
धुरि करमु न पाइओ पराणी विणु करमा किआ पाए ॥
But if he is not blessed with such pre-ordained karma, then without this karma, what can he obtain?
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂ ਮੂੜੇ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਸਬਦੇ ਪਾਏ ॥
Gur Kaa Sabadh Samaal Thoo Moorrae Gath Math Sabadhae Paaeae ||
गुर का सबदु समालि तू मूड़े गति मति सबदे पाए ॥
Meditate in remembrance on the Word of the Guru's Shabad, you fool; through the Shabad, you shall obtain salvation and wisdom.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਪਾਏ ਜਾਂ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੨॥

जिस दै चिति वसिआ मेरा सुआमी तिस नो किउ अंदेसा किसै गलै दा लोड़ीऐ ॥
One whose consciousness is filled with my Lord Master - why should he feel anxious about anything?
ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸਭਨਾ ਗਲਾ ਕਾ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਧਿਆਇਦਿਆ ਕਿਵ ਨਿਮਖ ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹੁ ਮੋੜੀਐ ॥

हरि सुखदाता सभना गला का तिस नो धिआइदिआ किव निमख घड़ी मुहु मोड़ीऐ ॥
The Lord is the Giver of Peace, the Lord of all things; why would we turn our faces away from His meditation, even for a moment, or an instant?
ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਰਬ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਹੋਏ ਨਿਤ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਾਇ ਬਹੀਐ ਮੁਹੁ ਜੋੜੀਐ ॥
Jin Har Dhhiaaeiaa This No Sarab Kaliaan Hoeae Nith Santh Janaa Kee Sangath Jaae Beheeai Muhu Jorreeai ||
जिनि हरि धिआइआ तिस नो सरब कलिआण होए नित संत जना की संगति जाइ बहीऐ मुहु जोड़ीऐ ॥
One who meditates on the Lord obtains all pleasures and comforts; let us go each and every day, to sit in the Saints' Society.
ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਰੋਗ ਗਏ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੇ ਸਭਿ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜੀਐ ॥
Sabh Dhukh Bhukh Rog Geae Har Saevak Kae Sabh Jan Kae Bandhhan Thorreeai ||
सभि दुख भुख रोग गए हरि सेवक के सभि जन के बंधन तोड़ीऐ ॥
All the pain, hunger, and disease of the Lord's servant are eradicated; the bonds of the humble beings are torn away.
ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹੋਆ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਡਿਠੈ ਜਗਤੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਲੋੜੀਐ ॥੪॥
Har Kirapaa Thae Hoaa Har Bhagath Har Bhagath Janaa Kai Muhi Ddithai Jagath Thariaa Sabh Lorreeai ||4||
हरि किरपा ते होआ हरि भगतु हरि भगत जना कै मुहि डिठै जगतु तरिआ सभु लोड़ीऐ ॥४॥
By the Lord's Grace, one becomes the Lord's devotee; beholding the face of the Lord's humble devotee, the whole world is saved and carried across. ||4||

ਸਾ ਰਸਨਾ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸੁਆਉ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Saa Rasanaa Jal Jaao Jin Har Kaa Suaao N Paaeiaa ||
सा रसना जलि जाउ जिनि हरि का सुआउ न पाइआ ॥
Let that tongue, which has not tasted the Name of the Lord, be burnt.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਸਾਇ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
Naanak Rasanaa Sabadh Rasaae Jin Har Har Mann Vasaaeiaa ||1||
नानक रसना सबदि रसाइ जिनि हरि हरि मंनि वसाइआ ॥१॥
O Nanak, one whose mind is filled with the Name of the Lord, Har, Har - his tongue savors the Word of the Shabad. ||1||

सा रसना जलि जाउ जिनि हरि का नाउ विसारिआ ॥
Let that tongue, which has forgotten the Name of the Lord, be burnt.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥੨॥
Naanak Guramukh Rasanaa Har Japai Har Kai Naae Piaariaa ||2||
नानक गुरमुखि रसना हरि जपै हरि कै नाइ पिआरिआ ॥२॥
O Nanak, the tongue of the Gurmukh chants the Lord's Name, and loves the Name of the Lord. ||2||

हरि आपे ठाकुरु सेवकु भगतु हरि आपे करे कराए ॥
The Lord Himself is the Master, the servant and the devotee; the Lord Himself is the Cause of causes.
ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਆਪੇ ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
Har Aapae Vaekhai Vigasai Aapae Jith Bhaavai Thith Laaeae ||
हरि आपे वेखै विगसै आपे जितु भावै तितु लाए ॥
The Lord Himself beholds, and He Himself rejoices. As He wills, so does He enjoin us.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਨਾ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਇਕਨਾ ਉਝੜਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
Har Eikanaa Maarag Paaeae Aapae Har Eikanaa Oujharr Paaeae ||
हरि इकना मारगि पाए आपे हरि इकना उझड़ि पाए ॥
The Lord places some on the Path, and the Lord leads others into the wilderness.
ਹਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੁ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਚਲਤ ਸਬਾਏ ॥
Har Sachaa Saahib Sach Thapaavas Kar Vaekhai Chalath Sabaaeae ||
हरि सचा साहिबु सचु तपावसु करि वेखै चलत सबाए ॥
The Lord is the True Master; True is His justice. He arranges and beholds all His plays.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਕਹੈ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥੫॥
Gur Parasaadh Kehai Jan Naanak Har Sachae Kae Gun Gaaeae ||5||
गुर परसादि कहै जनु नानकु हरि सचे के गुण गाए ॥५॥
By Guru's Grace, servant Nanak speaks and sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord. ||5||

ਦਰਵੇਸੀ ਕੋ ਜਾਣਸੀ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋ ਦਰਵੇਸੁ ॥
Dharavaesee Ko Jaanasee Viralaa Ko Dharavaes ||
दरवेसी को जाणसी विरला को दरवेसु ॥
How rare is the dervish, the Saintly renunciate, who understands renunciation.
ਜੇ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਹੰਢੈ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਧਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਧਿਗੁ ਵੇਸੁ ॥
Jae Ghar Ghar Handtai Mangadhaa Dhhig Jeevan Dhhig Vaes ||
जे घरि घरि हंढै मंगदा धिगु जीवणु धिगु वेसु ॥
Cursed is the life, and cursed are the clothes, of one who wanders around, begging from door to door.
ਜੇ ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਤਜਿ ਰਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਉ ॥
Jae Aasaa Andhaesaa Thaj Rehai Guramukh Bhikhiaa Naao ||
जे आसा अंदेसा तजि रहै गुरमुखि भिखिआ नाउ ॥
But, if he abandons hope and anxiety, and as Gurmukh receives the Name as his charity,
ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਪਖਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੧॥
This Kae Charan Pakhaaleeahi Naanak Ho Balihaarai Jaao ||1||
तिस के चरन पखालीअहि नानक हउ बलिहारै जाउ ॥१॥
Then Nanak washes his feet, and is a sacrifice to him. ||1||

Naanak Tharavar Eaek Fal Dhue Pankhaeroo Aahi ||
नानक तरवरु एकु फलु दुइ पंखेरू आहि ॥
O Nanak, the tree has one fruit, but two birds are perched upon it.
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਦੀਸਹੀ ਨਾ ਪਰ ਪੰਖੀ ਤਾਹਿ ॥
Aavath Jaath N Dheesehee Naa Par Pankhee Thaahi ||
आवत जात न दीसही ना पर पंखी ताहि ॥
They are not seen coming or going; these birds have no wings.
ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਿਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ॥
Bahu Rangee Ras Bhogiaa Sabadh Rehai Nirabaan ||
बहु रंगी रस भोगिआ सबदि रहै निरबाणु ॥
One enjoys so many pleasures, while the other, through the Word of the Shabad, remains in Nirvaanaa.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਫਲਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਕਰਮਿ ਸਚਾ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
Har Ras Fal Raathae Naanakaa Karam Sachaa Neesaan ||2||
हरि रसि फलि राते नानका करमि सचा नीसाणु ॥२॥
Imbued with the subtle essence of the fruit of the Lord's Name, O Nanak, the soul bears the True Insignia of God's Grace. ||2||

आपे धरती आपे है राहकु आपि जमाइ पीसावै ॥
He Himself is the field, and He Himself is the farmer. He Himself grows and grinds the corn.
ਆਪਿ ਪਕਾਵੈ ਆਪਿ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਦੇਇ ਪਰੋਸੈ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਬਹਿ ਖਾਵੈ ॥
Aap Pakaavai Aap Bhaanddae Dhaee Parosai Aapae Hee Behi Khaavai ||
आपि पकावै आपि भांडे देइ परोसै आपे ही बहि खावै ॥
He Himself cooks it, He Himself puts the food in the dishes, and He Himself sits down to eat.
ਆਪੇ ਜਲੁ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਛਿੰਗਾ ਆਪੇ ਚੁਲੀ ਭਰਾਵੈ ॥
Aapae Jal Aapae Dhae Shhingaa Aapae Chulee Bharaavai ||
आपे जलु आपे दे छिंगा आपे चुली भरावै ॥
He Himself is the water, He Himself gives the tooth-pick, and He Himself offers the mouthwash.
