ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਵੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੋ ॥੩॥
Naanak Sabadh Milai Bho Bhanjan Har Raavai Masathak Bhaago ||3||
नानक सबदि मिलै भउ भंजनु हरि रावै मसतकि भागो ॥३॥
O Nanak, through the Shabad, one meets the Lord, the Destroyer of fear, and by the destiny written on her forehead, she enjoys Him. ||3||
ਖੇਤੀ ਵਣਜੁ ਸਭੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
Khaethee Vanaj Sabh Hukam Hai Hukamae Mann Vaddiaaee Raam ||
खेती वणजु सभु हुकमु है हुकमे मंनि वडिआई राम ॥
All farming and trading is by Hukam of His Will; surrendering to the Lord's Will, glorious greatness is obtained.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
Guramathee Hukam Boojheeai Hukamae Mael Milaaee Raam ||
गुरमती हुकमु बूझीऐ हुकमे मेलि मिलाई राम ॥
Under Guru's Instruction, one comes to understand the Lord's Will, and by His Will, he is united in His Union.
ਹੁਕਮਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
Hukam Milaaee Sehaj Samaaee Gur Kaa Sabadh Apaaraa ||
हुकमि मिलाई सहजि समाई गुर का सबदु अपारा ॥
By His Will, one merges and easily blends with Him. The Shabads of the Guru are incomparable.
ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ਸਚੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
Sachee Vaddiaaee Gur Thae Paaee Sach Savaaranehaaraa ||
सची वडिआई गुर ते पाई सचु सवारणहारा ॥
Through the Guru, true greatness is obtained, and one is embellished with Truth.
ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥
Bho Bhanjan Paaeiaa Aap Gavaaeiaa Guramukh Mael Milaaee ||
भउ भंजनु पाइआ आपु गवाइआ गुरमुखि मेलि मिलाई ॥
He finds the Destroyer of fear, and eradicates his self-conceit; as Gurmukh, he is united in His Union.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੪॥੨॥
Kahu Naanak Naam Niranjan Agam Agochar Hukamae Rehiaa Samaaee ||4||2||
कहु नानक नामु निरंजनु अगमु अगोचरु हुकमे रहिआ समाई ॥४॥२॥
Says Nanak, the Name of the immaculate, inaccessible, unfathomable Commander is permeating and pervading everywhere. ||4||2||

ਮਨ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਤੂ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
Man Maeriaa Thoo Sadhaa Sach Samaal Jeeo ||
मन मेरिआ तू सदा सचु समालि जीउ ॥
O my mind, contemplate the True Lord forever.
ਆਪਣੈ ਘਰਿ ਤੂ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਪੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
Aapanai Ghar Thoo Sukh Vasehi Pohi N Sakai Jamakaal Jeeo ||
आपणै घरि तू सुखि वसहि पोहि न सकै जमकालु जीउ ॥
Dwell in peace in the home of your own self, and the Messenger of Death shall not touch you.
ਕਾਲੁ ਜਾਲੁ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
Kaal Jaal Jam Johi N Saakai Saachai Sabadh Liv Laaeae ||
कालु जालु जमु जोहि न साकै साचै सबदि लिव लाए ॥
The noose of the Messenger of Death shall not touch you, when you embrace love for the True Word of the Shabad.
ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਰਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹਾਏ ॥
Sadhaa Sach Rathaa Man Niramal Aavan Jaan Rehaaeae ||
सदा सचि रता मनु निरमलु आवणु जाणु रहाए ॥
Ever imbued with the True Lord, the mind becomes immaculate, and its coming and going is ended.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਰਮਿ ਵਿਗੁਤੀ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੋਹੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥
Dhoojai Bhaae Bharam Viguthee Manamukh Mohee Jamakaal ||
दूजै भाइ भरमि विगुती मनमुखि मोही जमकालि ॥
The love of duality and doubt have ruined the self-willed manmukh, who is lured away by the Messenger of Death.
ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧॥
Kehai Naanak Sun Man Maerae Thoo Sadhaa Sach Samaal ||1||
कहै नानकु सुणि मन मेरे तू सदा सचु समालि ॥१॥
Says Nanak, listen, O my mind: contemplate the True Lord forever. ||1||
ਮਨ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਿ ॥
Man Maeriaa Anthar Thaerai Nidhhaan Hai Baahar Vasath N Bhaal ||
मन मेरिआ अंतरि तेरै निधानु है बाहरि वसतु न भालि ॥
O my mind, the treasure is within you; do not search for it on the outside.
ਜੋ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਭੁੰਚਿ ਤੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥
Jo Bhaavai So Bhunch Thoo Guramukh Nadhar Nihaal ||
जो भावै सो भुंचि तू गुरमुखि नदरि निहालि ॥
Eat only that which is pleasing to the Lord, and as Gurmukh, receive the blessing of His Glance of Grace.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ॥
Guramukh Nadhar Nihaal Man Maerae Anthar Har Naam Sakhaaee ||
गुरमुखि नदरि निहालि मन मेरे अंतरि हरि नामु सखाई ॥
As Gurmukh, receive the blessing of His Glance of Grace, O my mind; the Name of the Lord, your help and support, is within you.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਈ ॥
Manamukh Andhhulae Giaan Vihoonae Dhoojai Bhaae Khuaaee ||
मनमुख अंधुले गिआन विहूणे दूजै भाइ खुआई ॥
The self-willed manmukhs are blind, and devoid of wisdom; they are ruined by the love of duality.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਛੂਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਭ ਬਾਧੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥
Bin Naavai Ko Shhoottai Naahee Sabh Baadhhee Jamakaal ||
बिनु नावै को छूटै नाही सभ बाधी जमकालि ॥
Without the Name, no one is emancipated. All are bound by the Messenger of Death.
ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਤੂ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਿ ॥੨॥
Naanak Anthar Thaerai Nidhhaan Hai Thoo Baahar Vasath N Bhaal ||2||
नानक अंतरि तेरै निधानु है तू बाहरि वसतु न भालि ॥२॥
O Nanak, the treasure is within you; do not search for it on the outside. ||2||
ਮਨ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਇਕਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਗੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥
Man Maeriaa Janam Padhaarathh Paae Kai Eik Sach Lagae Vaapaaraa ||
मन मेरिआ जनमु पदारथु पाइ कै इकि सचि लगे वापारा ॥
O my mind, obtaining the blessing of this human birth, some are engaged in the trade of Truth.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
Sathigur Saevan Aapanaa Anthar Sabadh Apaaraa ||
सतिगुरु सेवनि आपणा अंतरि सबदु अपारा ॥
They serve their True Guru, and the Infinite Word of the Shabad resounds within them.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
Anthar Sabadh Apaaraa Har Naam Piaaraa Naamae No Nidhh Paaee ||
अंतरि सबदु अपारा हरि नामु पिआरा नामे नउ निधि पाई ॥
Within them is the Infinite Shabad, and the Beloved Naam, the Name of the Lord; through the Naam, the nine treasures are obtained.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਦੂਖਿ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
Manamukh Maaeiaa Moh Viaapae Dhookh Santhaapae Dhoojai Path Gavaaee ||
मनमुख माइआ मोह विआपे दूखि संतापे दूजै पति गवाई ॥
The self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in emotional attachment to Maya; they suffer in pain, and through duality, they lose their honor.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ॥
Houmai Maar Sach Sabadh Samaanae Sach Rathae Adhhikaaee ||
हउमै मारि सचि सबदि समाणे सचि रते अधिकाई ॥
But those who conquer their ego, and merge in the True Shabad, are totally imbued with Truth.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਣਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਹੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੩॥
Naanak Maanas Janam Dhulanbh Hai Sathigur Boojh Bujhaaee ||3||
नानक माणस जनमु दुल्मभु है सतिगुरि बूझ बुझाई ॥३॥
O Nanak, it is so difficult to obtain this human life; the True Guru imparts this understanding. ||3||
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥

मन मेरे सतिगुरु सेवनि आपणा से जन वडभागी राम ॥
O my mind, those who serve their True Guru are the most fortunate beings.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਪੁਰਖ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
Jo Man Maarehi Aapanaa Sae Purakh Bairaagee Raam ||
जो मनु मारहि आपणा से पुरख बैरागी राम ॥
Those who conquer their minds are beings of renunciation and detachment.
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥
Sae Jan Bairaagee Sach Liv Laagee Aapanaa Aap Pashhaaniaa ||
से जन बैरागी सचि लिव लागी आपणा आपु पछाणिआ ॥
They are beings of renunciation and detachment, who lovingly focus their consciousness on the True Lord; they realize and understand their own selves.
ਮਤਿ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਅਤਿ ਗੂੜੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣਿਆ ॥
Math Nihachal Ath Goorree Guramukh Sehajae Naam Vakhaaniaa ||
मति निहचल अति गूड़ी गुरमुखि सहजे नामु वखाणिआ ॥
Their intellect is steady, deep and profound; as Gurmukh, they naturally chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਇਕ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥
Eik Kaaman Hithakaaree Maaeiaa Mohi Piaaree Manamukh Soe Rehae Abhaagae ||
इक कामणि हितकारी माइआ मोहि पिआरी मनमुख सोइ रहे अभागे ॥
Some are lovers of beautiful young women; emotional attachment to Maya is very dear to them. The unfortunate self-willed manmukhs remain asleep.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ॥੪॥੩॥
Naanak Sehajae Saevehi Gur Apanaa Sae Poorae Vaddabhaagae ||4||3||
नानक सहजे सेवहि गुरु अपणा से पूरे वडभागे ॥४॥३॥
O Nanak, those who intuitively serve their Guru, have perfect destiny. ||4||3||

रतन पदारथ वणजीअहि सतिगुरि दीआ बुझाई राम ॥
Purchase the jewel, the invaluable treasure; the True Guru has given this understanding.
ਲਾਹਾ ਲਾਭੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
Laahaa Laabh Har Bhagath Hai Gun Mehi Gunee Samaaee Raam ||
लाहा लाभु हरि भगति है गुण महि गुणी समाई राम ॥
The profit of profits is the devotional worship of the Lord; one's virtues merge into the virtues of the Lord.
