Aapae Khael Karae Sabh Karathaa Aisaa Boojhai Koee ||3||
आपे खेल करे सभ करता ऐसा बूझै कोई ॥३॥
The Creator Himself plays all the games; only a few understand this. ||3||
ਨਾਉ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਛੋਡਹੁ ਦੁਨੀ ਪਰੀਤਾ ॥
Naao Prabhaathai Sabadh Dhhiaaeeai Shhoddahu Dhunee Pareethaa ||
नाउ प्रभातै सबदि धिआईऐ छोडहु दुनी परीता ॥
Meditate on the Name, and the Word of the Shabad, in the early hours before dawn; leave your worldly entanglements behind.

मनु माइआ मनु धाइआ मनु पंखी आकासि ॥
The mind is Maya, the mind is a chaser; the mind is a bird flying across the sky.
ਤਸਕਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਆ ਨਗਰੁ ਵੁਠਾ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥
Thasakar Sabadh Nivaariaa Nagar Vuthaa Saabaas ||
तसकर सबदि निवारिआ नगरु वुठा साबासि ॥
The thieves are overpowered by the Shabad, and then the body-village prospers and celebrates.
ਜਾ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਸਾਬਤੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੧॥
Jaa Thoo Raakhehi Raakh Laihi Saabath Hovai Raas ||1||
जा तू राखहि राखि लैहि साबतु होवै रासि ॥१॥
Lord, when You save someone, he is saved; his capital is safe and sound. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਨਿਧਿ ਮੇਰੈ ॥
Aisaa Naam Rathan Nidhh Maerai ||
ऐसा नामु रतनु निधि मेरै ॥
Such is my Treasure, the Jewel of the Naam;
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਲਗਉ ਪਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुरमति देहि लगउ पगि तेरै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

ਮਨੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਮਨੁ ਭੋਗੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
Man Jogee Man Bhogeeaa Man Moorakh Gaavaar ||
मनु जोगी मनु भोगीआ मनु मूरखु गावारु ॥
The mind is a Yogi, the mind is a pleasure-seeker; the mind is foolish and ignorant.
ਮਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੰਗਤਾ ਮਨ ਸਿਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
Man Dhaathaa Man Mangathaa Man Sir Gur Karathaar ||
मनु दाता मनु मंगता मन सिरि गुरु करतारु ॥
The mind is the giver, the mind is the beggar; the mind is the Great Guru, the Creator.
ਪੰਚ ਮਾਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਐਸਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
Panch Maar Sukh Paaeiaa Aisaa Breham Veechaar ||2||
पंच मारि सुखु पाइआ ऐसा ब्रहमु वीचारु ॥२॥
The five thieves are conquered, and peace is attained; such is the contemplative wisdom of God. ||2||
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਏਕੁ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ਕਹਉ ਨ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
Ghatt Ghatt Eaek Vakhaaneeai Keho N Dhaekhiaa Jaae ||
घटि घटि एकु वखाणीऐ कहउ न देखिआ जाइ ॥
The One Lord is said to be in each and every heart, but no one can see Him.
ਖੋਟੋ ਪੂਠੋ ਰਾਲੀਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
Khotto Pootho Raaleeai Bin Naavai Path Jaae ||
खोटो पूठो रालीऐ बिनु नावै पति जाइ ॥
The false are cast upside-down into the womb of reincarnation; without the Name, they lose their honor.
ਜਾ ਤੂ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਤਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੋਇ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
Jaa Thoo Maelehi Thaa Mil Rehaan Jaan Thaeree Hoe Rajaae ||3||
जा तू मेलहि ता मिलि रहां जां तेरी होइ रजाइ ॥३॥
Those whom You unite, remain united, if it is Your Will. ||3||
ਜਾਤਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਨਹ ਪੂਛੀਐ ਸਚ ਘਰੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਬਤਾਇ ॥
Jaath Janam Neh Pooshheeai Sach Ghar Laehu Bathaae ||
जाति जनमु नह पूछीऐ सच घरु लेहु बताइ ॥
God does not ask about social class or birth; you must find your true home.
ਸਾ ਜਾਤਿ ਸਾ ਪਤਿ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
Saa Jaath Saa Path Hai Jaehae Karam Kamaae ||
सा जाति सा पति है जेहे करम कमाइ ॥
That is your social class and that is your status - the karma of what you have done.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾਟੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
Janam Maran Dhukh Kaatteeai Naanak Shhoottas Naae ||4||10||
जनम मरन दुखु काटीऐ नानक छूटसि नाइ ॥४॥१०॥
The pains of death and rebirth are eradicated; O Nanak, salvation is in the Lord's Name. ||4||10||

ਜਾਗਤੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਮੂਠੋ ਅੰਧਾ ॥

जागतु बिगसै मूठो अंधा ॥
He is awake, and even happy, but he is being plundered - he is blind!
ਗਲਿ ਫਾਹੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਧੰਧਾ ॥
Gal Faahee Sir Maarae Dhhandhhaa ||
गलि फाही सिरि मारे धंधा ॥
The noose is around his neck, and yet, his head is busy with worldly affairs.
ਆਸਾ ਆਵੈ ਮਨਸਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
Aasaa Aavai Manasaa Jaae ||
आसा आवै मनसा जाइ ॥
In hope, he comes and in desire, he leaves.
ਉਰਝੀ ਤਾਣੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਬਸਾਇ ॥੧॥
Ourajhee Thaanee Kishh N Basaae ||1||
उरझी ताणी किछु न बसाइ ॥१॥
The strings of his life are all tangled up; he is utterly helpless. ||1||
ਜਾਗਸਿ ਜੀਵਣ ਜਾਗਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

जागसि जीवण जागणहारा ॥
The Lord of Awareness, the Lord of Life is awake and aware.

He is the Ocean of peace, the Treasure of Ambrosial Nectar. ||1||Pause||
ਕਹਿਓ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਅੰਧੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਭੋਂਡੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ॥
Kehiou N Boojhai Andhh N Soojhai Bhonaddee Kaar Kamaaee ||
कहिओ न बूझै अंधु न सूझै भोंडी कार कमाई ॥
He does not understand what he is told; he is blind - he does not see, and so he does his evil deeds.
ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰੁ ਕਰਮੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੨॥
Aapae Preeth Praem Paramaesur Karamee Milai Vaddaaee ||2||
आपे प्रीति प्रेम परमेसुरु करमी मिलै वडाई ॥२॥
The Transcendent Lord Himself showers His Love and Affection; by His Grace, He bestows glorious greatness. ||2||
ਦਿਨੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਆਵੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਛੀਜੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਘਟਾਈ ॥
Dhin Dhin Aavai Thil Thil Shheejai Maaeiaa Mohu Ghattaaee ||
दिनु दिनु आवै तिलु तिलु छीजै माइआ मोहु घटाई ॥
With the coming of each and every day, his life is wearing away, bit by bit; but still, his heart is attached to Maya.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬੂਡੋ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਬ ਲਗ ਦੂਜੀ ਰਾਈ ॥੩॥
Bin Gur Booddo Thour N Paavai Jab Lag Dhoojee Raaee ||3||
बिनु गुर बूडो ठउर न पावै जब लग दूजी राई ॥३॥
Without the Guru, he is drowned, and finds no place of rest, as long as he is caught in duality. ||3||
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਜੀਆ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਈ ॥
Ahinis Jeeaa Dhaekh Samhaalai Sukh Dhukh Purab Kamaaee ||
अहिनिसि जीआ देखि सम्हालै सुखु दुखु पुरबि कमाई ॥
Day and night, God watches over and takes care of His living beings; they receive pleasure and pain according to their past actions.
ਕਰਮਹੀਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਮਾਂਗੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੧॥
Karameheen Sach Bheekhiaa Maangai Naanak Milai Vaddaaee ||4||11||
करमहीणु सचु भीखिआ मांगै नानक मिलै वडाई ॥४॥११॥
Nanak, the unfortunate one, begs for the charity of Truth; please bless him with this glory. ||4||11||

मसटि करउ मूरखु जगि कहीआ ॥
If I remain silent, the world calls me a fool.
ਅਧਿਕ ਬਕਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਲਿਵ ਰਹੀਆ ॥
Adhhik Bako Thaeree Liv Reheeaa ||
अधिक बकउ तेरी लिव रहीआ ॥
If I talk too much, I miss out on Your Love.
ਭੂਲ ਚੂਕ ਤੇਰੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥
Bhool Chook Thaerai Dharabaar ||
भूल चूक तेरै दरबारि ॥
My mistakes and faults will be judged in Your Court.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਆਚਾਰ ॥੧॥
Naam Binaa Kaisae Aachaar ||1||
नाम बिना कैसे आचार ॥१॥
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how can I maintain good conduct? ||1||
ਐਸੇ ਝੂਠਿ ਮੁਠੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
Aisae Jhooth Muthae Sansaaraa ||
ऐसे झूठि मुठे संसारा ॥
Such is the falsehood which is plundering the world.
ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਨਿੰਦੈ ਮੁਝੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Nindhak Nindhai Mujhai Piaaraa ||1|| Rehaao ||
निंदकु निंदै मुझै पिआरा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
The slanderer slanders me, but even so, I love him. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਿੰਦਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
Jis Nindhehi Soee Bidhh Jaanai ||
जिसु निंदहि सोई बिधि जाणै ॥
He alone knows the way, who has been slandered.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਦਰਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ॥
Gur Kai Sabadhae Dhar Neesaanai ||
गुर कै सबदे दरि नीसाणै ॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he is stamped with the Lord's Insignia in His Court.
ਕਾਰਣ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਤਰਗਤਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
Kaaran Naam Antharagath Jaanai ||
कारण नामु अंतरगति जाणै ॥
He realizes the Naam, the Cause of causes, deep within himself.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥੨॥
Jis No Nadhar Karae Soee Bidhh Jaanai ||2||
जिस नो नदरि करे सोई बिधि जाणै ॥२॥
He alone knows the way, who is blessed by the Lord's Glance of Grace. ||2||
ਮੈ ਮੈਲੌ ਊਜਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
Mai Maila Oojal Sach Soe ||
मै मैलौ ऊजलु सचु सोइ ॥
I am filthy and polluted; the True Lord is Immaculate and Sublime.
ਊਤਮੁ ਆਖਿ ਨ ਊਚਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
Ootham Aakh N Oochaa Hoe ||
ऊतमु आखि न ऊचा होइ ॥
Calling oneself sublime, one does not become exalted.
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਖੂਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇ ॥
Manamukh Khoolih Mehaa Bikh Khaae ||
मनमुखु खूल्हि महा बिखु खाइ ॥
The self-willed manmukh openly eats the great poison.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਰਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੩॥
Guramukh Hoe S Raachai Naae ||3||
गुरमुखि होइ सु राचै नाइ ॥३॥
But one who becomes Gurmukh is absorbed in the Name. ||3||
ਅੰਧੌ ਬੋਲੌ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਗਵਾਰੁ ॥
