मन चूरे खटु दरसन जाणु ॥
To conquer the mind is the knowledge of the six Shaastras.

The Divine Light of the Lord God is perfectly pervading. ||1||Pause||
ਅਧਿਕ ਤਿਆਸ ਭੇਖ ਬਹੁ ਕਰੈ ॥
Adhhik Thiaas Bhaekh Bahu Karai ||
अधिक तिआस भेख बहु करै ॥
Excessive thirst for Maya makes people wear all sorts of religious robes.
ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਨਿ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥
Dhukh Bikhiaa Sukh Than Pareharai ||
दुखु बिखिआ सुखु तनि परहरै ॥
The pain of corruption destroys the body's peace.
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਹਿਰੈ ॥
Kaam Krodhh Anthar Dhhan Hirai ||
कामु क्रोधु अंतरि धनु हिरै ॥
Sexual desire and anger steal the wealth of the self within.
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ॥੨॥
Dhubidhhaa Shhodd Naam Nisatharai ||2||
दुबिधा छोडि नामि निसतरै ॥२॥
But by abandoning duality, one is emancipated through the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||
ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਣੁ ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
Sifath Salaahan Sehaj Anandh ||
सिफति सलाहणु सहज अनंद ॥
In the Lord's Praise and adoration is intuitive peace, poise and bliss.
ਸਖਾ ਸੈਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥
Sakhaa Sain Praem Gobindh ||
सखा सैनु प्रेमु गोबिंद ॥
The Love of the Lord God is one's family and friends.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥
Aapae Karae Aapae Bakhasindh ||
आपे करे आपे बखसिंदु ॥
He Himself is the Doer, and He Himself is the Forgiver.
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਆਗੈ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥੩॥
Than Man Har Pehi Aagai Jindh ||3||
तनु मनु हरि पहि आगै जिंदु ॥३॥
My body and mind belong to the Lord; my life is at His Command. ||3||
ਝੂਠ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੇਹ ॥
Jhooth Vikaar Mehaa Dhukh Dhaeh ||
झूठ विकार महा दुखु देह ॥
Falsehood and corruption cause terrible suffering.
ਭੇਖ ਵਰਨ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਖੇਹ ॥
Bhaekh Varan Dheesehi Sabh Khaeh ||
भेख वरन दीसहि सभि खेह ॥
All the religious robes and social classes look just like dust.
ਜੋ ਉਪਜੈ ਸੋ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
Jo Oupajai So Aavai Jaae ||
जो उपजै सो आवै जाइ ॥
Whoever is born, continues to come and go.
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੧॥
Naanak Asathhir Naam Rajaae ||4||11||
नानक असथिरु नामु रजाइ ॥४॥११॥
O Nanak, only the Naam and the Lord's Command are eternal and everlasting. ||4||11||

In the pool is the one incomparably beautiful lotus.
ਸਦਾ ਬਿਗਾਸੈ ਪਰਮਲ ਰੂਪ ॥
Sadhaa Bigaasai Paramal Roop ||
सदा बिगासै परमल रूप ॥
It blossoms continually; its form is pure and fragrant.
ਊਜਲ ਮੋਤੀ ਚੂਗਹਿ ਹੰਸ ॥
Oojal Mothee Choogehi Hans ||
ऊजल मोती चूगहि हंस ॥
The swans pick up the bright jewels.
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ਅੰਸ ॥੧॥
Sarab Kalaa Jagadheesai Ans ||1||
सरब कला जगदीसै अंस ॥१॥
They take on the essence of the All-powerful Lord of the Universe. ||1||
ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਉਪਜੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ॥
Jo Dheesai So Oupajai Binasai ||
जो दीसै सो उपजै बिनसै ॥
Whoever is seen, is subject to birth and death.
ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਸਰਵਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

बिनु जल सरवरि कमलु न दीसै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
In the pool without water, the lotus is not seen. ||1||Pause||
ਬਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਭੇਦੁ ॥
Biralaa Boojhai Paavai Bhaedh ||
बिरला बूझै पावै भेदु ॥
How rare are those who know and understand this secret.
ਸਾਖਾ ਤੀਨਿ ਕਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਬੇਦੁ ॥
Saakhaa Theen Kehai Nith Baedh ||
साखा तीनि कहै नित बेदु ॥
The Vedas continually speak of the three branches.
ਨਾਦ ਬਿੰਦ ਕੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
Naadh Bindh Kee Surath Samaae ||
नाद बिंद की सुरति समाइ ॥
One who merges into the knowledge of the Lord as absolute and related,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥

सतिगुरु सेवि परम पदु पाइ ॥२॥
Serves the True Guru and obtains the supreme status. ||2||
ਮੁਕਤੋ ਰਾਤਉ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਵਾਂਤਉ ॥
Mukatho Raatho Rang Ravaantho ||
मुकतो रातउ रंगि रवांतउ ॥
One who is imbued with the Love of the Lord and dwells continually upon Him is liberated.
ਰਾਜਨ ਰਾਜਿ ਸਦਾ ਬਿਗਸਾਂਤਉ ॥
Raajan Raaj Sadhaa Bigasaantho ||
राजन राजि सदा बिगसांतउ ॥
He is the king of kings, and blossoms forth continually.
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
Jis Thoon Raakhehi Kirapaa Dhhaar ||
जिसु तूं राखहि किरपा धारि ॥
That one whom You preserve, by bestowing Your Mercy, O Lord,
ਬੂਡਤ ਪਾਹਨ ਤਾਰਹਿ ਤਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
Booddath Paahan Thaarehi Thaar ||3||
बूडत पाहन तारहि तारि ॥३॥
Even the sinking stone - You float that one across. ||3||
ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
Thribhavan Mehi Joth Thribhavan Mehi Jaaniaa ||
त्रिभवण महि जोति त्रिभवण महि जाणिआ ॥
Your Light is pervading the three worlds; I know that You are permeating the three worlds.
ਉਲਟ ਭਈ ਘਰੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਆਣਿਆ ॥
Oulatt Bhee Ghar Ghar Mehi Aaniaa ||
उलट भई घरु घर महि आणिआ ॥
When my mind turned away from Maya, I came to dwell in my own home.
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
Ahinis Bhagath Karae Liv Laae ||
अहिनिसि भगति करे लिव लाइ ॥
Nanak falls at the feet of that person who immerses himself in the Lord's Love,
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਗੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੨॥

नानकु तिन कै लागै पाइ ॥४॥१२॥
And performs devotional worship night and day. ||4||12||

Aasaa, First Mehl:
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਹੁਜਤਿ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
Guramath Saachee Hujath Dhoor ||
गुरमति साची हुजति दूरि ॥
Receiving the True Teachings from the Guru, arguments depart.
ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਲਾਗੈ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
Bahuth Siaanap Laagai Dhhoor ||
बहुतु सिआणप लागै धूरि ॥
But through excessive cleverness, one is only plastered with dirt.
ਲਾਗੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਸਚ ਨਾਇ ॥
Laagee Mail Mittai Sach Naae ||
लागी मैलु मिटै सच नाइ ॥
The filth of attachment is removed by the True Name of the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
Gur Parasaadh Rehai Liv Laae ||1||
गुर परसादि रहै लिव लाइ ॥१॥
By Guru's Grace, one remains lovingly attached to the Lord. ||1||
ਹੈ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਹਾਜਰੁ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
Hai Hajoor Haajar Aradhaas ||
है हजूरि हाजरु अरदासि ॥
He is the Presence Ever-present; offer your prayers to Him.
ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

दुखु सुखु साचु करते प्रभ पासि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Pain and pleasure are in the Hands of God, the True Creator. ||1||Pause||
ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
Koorr Kamaavai Aavai Jaavai ||
कूड़ु कमावै आवै जावै ॥
One who practices falsehood comes and goes.
ਕਹਣਿ ਕਥਨਿ ਵਾਰਾ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥
Kehan Kathhan Vaaraa Nehee Aavai ||
कहणि कथनि वारा नही आवै ॥
By speaking and talking, His limits cannot be found.
ਕਿਆ ਦੇਖਾ ਸੂਝ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Kiaa Dhaekhaa Soojh Boojh N Paavai ||
किआ देखा सूझ बूझ न पावै ॥
Whatever one sees, is not understood.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੨॥
Bin Naavai Man Thripath N Aavai ||2||
बिनु नावै मनि त्रिपति न आवै ॥२॥
Without the Name, satisfaction does not enter into the mind. ||2||
ਜੋ ਜਨਮੇ ਸੇ ਰੋਗਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ॥
Jo Janamae Sae Rog Viaapae ||
जो जनमे से रोगि विआपे ॥
Whoever is born is afflicted by disease,
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੂਖਿ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ॥
Houmai Maaeiaa Dhookh Santhaapae ||
हउमै माइआ दूखि संतापे ॥
Tortured by the pain of egotism and Maya.
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਬਾਚੇ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖੇ ॥
Sae Jan Baachae Jo Prabh Raakhae ||
से जन बाचे जो प्रभि राखे ॥
They alone are saved, who are protected by God.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੇ ॥੩॥
Sathigur Saev Anmrith Ras Chaakhae ||3||
सतिगुरु सेवि अम्रित रसु चाखे ॥३॥
Serving the True Guru, they drink in the Amrit, the Ambrosial Nectar. ||3||
ਚਲਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚਾਖੈ ॥
Chalatho Man Raakhai Anmrith Chaakhai ||
चलतउ मनु राखै अम्रितु चाखै ॥
The unstable mind is restrained by tasting this Nectar.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਬਦੁ ਭਾਖੈ ॥
Sathigur Saev Anmrith Sabadh Bhaakhai ||
सतिगुर सेवि अम्रित सबदु भाखै ॥
Serving the True Guru, one comes to cherish the Ambrosial Nectar of the Shabad.
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
Saachai Sabadh Mukath Gath Paaeae ||
साचै सबदि मुकति गति पाए ॥
Through the True Word of the Shabad, the state of liberation is obtained.
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੪॥੧੩॥
Naanak Vichahu Aap Gavaaeae ||4||13||
नानक विचहु आपु गवाए ॥४॥१३॥
O Nanak, self-conceit is eradicated from within. ||4||13||

Whatever He has done, has proved to be true.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ॥
Anmrith Naam Sathigur Dheeaa ||
अम्रित नामु सतिगुरि दीआ ॥
The True Guru bestows the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਨਿ ਭੰਗੁ ॥
Hiradhai Naam Naahee Man Bhang ||
हिरदै नामु नाही मनि भंगु ॥
With the Naam in the heart, the mind is not separated from the Lord.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੰਗੁ ॥੧॥
Anadhin Naal Piaarae Sang ||1||
अनदिनु नालि पिआरे संगु ॥१॥
Night and day, one dwells with the Beloved. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
Har Jeeo Raakhahu Apanee Saranaaee ||
हरि जीउ राखहु अपनी सरणाई ॥
O Lord, please keep me in the Protection of Your Sanctuary.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर परसादी हरि रसु पाइआ नामु पदारथु नउ निधि पाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
