ਕਾਹੇ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਉਦਮੁ ਜਾ ਆਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਰਿਆ ॥
Kaahae Rae Man Chithavehi Oudham Jaa Aahar Har Jeeo Pariaa ||
काहे रे मन चितवहि उदमु जा आहरि हरि जीउ परिआ ॥
Why, O mind, do you contrive your schemes, when the Dear Lord Himself provides for your care?
ਸੈਲ ਪਥਰ ਮਹਿ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਏ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਆਗੈ ਕਰਿ ਧਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
Sail Pathhar Mehi Janth Oupaaeae Thaa Kaa Rijak Aagai Kar Dhhariaa ||1||
सैल पथर महि जंत उपाए ता का रिजकु आगै करि धरिआ ॥१॥
From rocks and stones, He created the living beings, and He places before them their sustenance. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਧਉ ਜੀ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਿ ਤਰਿਆ ॥
Maerae Maadhho Jee Sathasangath Milae S Thariaa ||
मेरे माधउ जी सतसंगति मिले सि तरिआ ॥
O my Dear Lord of Souls, one who meets with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, is saved.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੂਕੇ ਕਾਸਟ ਹਰਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Gur Parasaadh Param Padh Paaeiaa Sookae Kaasatt Hariaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
गुर परसादि परम पदु पाइआ सूके कासट हरिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
By Guru's Grace, he obtains the supreme status, and the dry branch blossoms forth in greenery. ||1||Pause||
ਜਨਨਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਿਸ ਕੀ ਧਰਿਆ ॥
Janan Pithaa Lok Suth Banithaa Koe N Kis Kee Dhhariaa ||
जननि पिता लोक सुत बनिता कोइ न किस की धरिआ ॥
Mother, father, friends, children, and spouse - no one is the support of any other.
ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹੇ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਮਨ ਭਉ ਕਰਿਆ ॥੨॥
Sir Sir Rijak Sanbaahae Thaakur Kaahae Man Bho Kariaa ||2||
सिरि सिरि रिजकु स्मबाहे ठाकुरु काहे मन भउ करिआ ॥२॥
For each and every individual, the Lord and Master provides sustenance; why do you fear, O my mind? ||2||
ਊਡੈ ਊਡਿ ਆਵੈ ਸੈ ਕੋਸਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਾਛੈ ਬਚਰੇ ਛਰਿਆ ॥
Ooddai Oodd Aavai Sai Kosaa This Paashhai Bacharae Shhariaa ||
ऊडै ऊडि आवै सै कोसा तिसु पाछै बचरे छरिआ ॥
The flamingoes fly hundreds of miles, leaving their young ones behind.
ਉਨ ਕਵਨੁ ਖਲਾਵੈ ਕਵਨੁ ਚੁਗਾਵੈ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਕਰਿਆ ॥੩॥
Oun Kavan Khalaavai Kavan Chugaavai Man Mehi Simaran Kariaa ||3||
उन कवनु खलावै कवनु चुगावै मन महि सिमरनु करिआ ॥३॥
Who feeds them, and who teaches them to feed themselves? Have you ever thought of this in your mind? ||3||
ਸਭ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਦਸ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਾਨ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਰ ਤਲ ਧਰਿਆ ॥
Sabh Nidhhaan Dhas Asatt Sidhhaan Thaakur Kar Thal Dhhariaa ||
सभ निधान दस असट सिधान ठाकुर कर तल धरिआ ॥
All treasures and the eighteen supernatural spiritual powers of the Siddhas are held by the Lord and Master in the palm of His hand.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੧॥
Jan Naanak Bal Bal Sadh Bal Jaaeeai Thaeraa Anth N Paaraavariaa ||4||1||
जन नानक बलि बलि सद बलि जाईऐ तेरा अंतु न पारावरिआ ॥४॥१॥
Servant Nanak is devoted, dedicated, and forever a sacrifice to You - Your vast expanse has no limit. ||4||1||

ਕਿਰਿਆਚਾਰ ਕਰਹਿ ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਇਤੁ ਰਾਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ॥
Kiriaachaar Karehi Khatt Karamaa Eith Raathae Sansaaree ||
किरिआचार करहि खटु करमा इतु राते संसारी ॥
They perform the four rituals and six religious rites; the world is engrossed in these.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
Anthar Mail N Outharai Houmai Bin Gur Baajee Haaree ||1||
अंतरि मैलु न उतरै हउमै बिनु गुर बाजी हारी ॥१॥
They are not cleansed of the filth of their ego within; without the Guru, they lose the game of life. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
Maerae Thaakur Rakh Laevahu Kirapaa Dhhaaree ||
मेरे ठाकुर रखि लेवहु किरपा धारी ॥
O my Lord and Master, please, grant Your Grace and preserve me.
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਹੋਰਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Kott Madhhae Ko Viralaa Saevak Hor Sagalae Biouhaaree ||1|| Rehaao ||
कोटि मधे को विरला सेवकु होरि सगले बिउहारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Out of millions, hardly anyone is a servant of the Lord. All the others are mere traders. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਸਤ ਬੇਦ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਭਿ ਸੋਧੇ ਸਭ ਏਕਾ ਬਾਤ ਪੁਕਾਰੀ ॥
Saasath Baedh Simrith Sabh Sodhhae Sabh Eaekaa Baath Pukaaree ||
सासत बेद सिम्रिति सभि सोधे सभ एका बात पुकारी ॥
I have searched all the Shaastras, the Vedas and the Simritees, and they all affirm one thing:
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
Bin Gur Mukath N Kooo Paavai Man Vaekhahu Kar Beechaaree ||2||
बिनु गुर मुकति न कोऊ पावै मनि वेखहु करि बीचारी ॥२॥
Without the Guru, no one obtains liberation; see, and reflect upon this in your mind. ||2||
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਮਜਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਏ ਧਰ ਸਾਰੀ ॥
Athasath Majan Kar Eisanaanaa Bhram Aaeae Dhhar Saaree ||
अठसठि मजनु करि इसनाना भ्रमि आए धर सारी ॥
Even if one takes cleansing baths at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage, and wanders over the whole planet,
ਅਨਿਕ ਸੋਚ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੀ ॥੩॥
Anik Soch Karehi Dhin Raathee Bin Sathigur Andhhiaaree ||3||
अनिक सोच करहि दिन राती बिनु सतिगुर अंधिआरी ॥३॥
And performs all the rituals of purification day and night, still, without the True Guru, there is only darkness. ||3||
ਧਾਵਤ ਧਾਵਤ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਧਾਇਓ ਅਬ ਆਏ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੀ ॥
Dhhaavath Dhhaavath Sabh Jag Dhhaaeiou Ab Aaeae Har Dhuaaree ||
धावत धावत सभु जगु धाइओ अब आए हरि दुआरी ॥
Roaming and wandering around, I have travelled over the whole world, and now, I have arrived at the Lord's Door.
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੇਟਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੀ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧॥੨॥
Dhuramath Maett Budhh Paragaasee Jan Naanak Guramukh Thaaree ||4||1||2||
दुरमति मेटि बुधि परगासी जन नानक गुरमुखि तारी ॥४॥१॥२॥
The Lord has eliminated my evil-mindedness, and enlightened my intellect; O servant Nanak, the Gurmukhs are saved. ||4||1||2||

ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਜਾਪ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਤਾਪ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
Har Dhhan Jaap Har Dhhan Thaap Har Dhhan Bhojan Bhaaeiaa ||
हरि धनु जाप हरि धनु ताप हरि धनु भोजनु भाइआ ॥
The wealth of the Lord is my chanting, the wealth of the Lord is my deep meditation; the wealth of the Lord is the food I enjoy.
ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਉ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
Nimakh N Bisaro Man Thae Har Har Saadhhasangath Mehi Paaeiaa ||1||
निमख न बिसरउ मन ते हरि हरि साधसंगति महि पाइआ ॥१॥
I do not forget the Lord, Har, Har, from my mind, even for an instant; I have found Him in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||
ਮਾਈ ਖਾਟਿ ਆਇਓ ਘਰਿ ਪੂਤਾ ॥
Maaee Khaatt Aaeiou Ghar Poothaa ||
माई खाटि आइओ घरि पूता ॥
O mother, your son has returned home with a profit:
ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਚਲਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਬੈਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਜਾਗਤ ਸੂਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Har Dhhan Chalathae Har Dhhan Baisae Har Dhhan Jaagath Soothaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
हरि धनु चलते हरि धनु बैसे हरि धनु जागत सूता ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
The wealth of the Lord while walking, the wealth of the Lord while sitting, and the wealth of the Lord while waking and sleeping. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਾਇ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥
Har Dhhan Eisanaan Har Dhhan Giaan Har Sang Laae Dhhiaanaa ||
हरि धनु इसनानु हरि धनु गिआनु हरि संगि लाइ धिआना ॥
The wealth of the Lord is my cleansing bath, the wealth of the Lord is my wisdom; I center my meditation on the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਤੁਲਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਬੇੜੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਨਾ ॥੨॥
Har Dhhan Thulehaa Har Dhhan Baerree Har Har Thaar Paraanaa ||2||
हरि धनु तुलहा हरि धनु बेड़ी हरि हरि तारि पराना ॥२॥
The wealth of the Lord is my raft, the wealth of the Lord is my boat; the Lord, Har, Har, is the ship to carry me across. ||2||
