Path Raakhee Gur Paarabreham Thaj Parapanch Moh Bikaar ||
पति राखी गुरि पारब्रहम तजि परपंच मोह बिकार ॥
The Guru, the Supreme Lord God, preserved my honor, when I renounced hypocrisy, emotional attachment and corruption.

PAPPA: He is beyond estimation; His limits cannot be found.
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਅਗਮ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
Pathith Paavan Agam Har Raaeiaa ||
पतित पावन अगम हरि राइआ ॥
The Sovereign Lord King is inaccessible;
ਹੋਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਕੋਟ ਅਪਰਾਧੂ ॥
Hoth Puneeth Kott Aparaadhhoo ||
होत पुनीत कोट अपराधू ॥
He is the Purifier of sinners. Millions of sinners are purified;
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ॥
Anmrith Naam Japehi Mil Saadhhoo ||
अम्रित नामु जपहि मिलि साधू ॥
They meet the Holy, and chant the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਪਰਪਚ ਧ੍ਰੋਹ ਮੋਹ ਮਿਟਨਾਈ ॥
Parapach Dhhroh Moh Mittanaaee ||
परपच ध्रोह मोह मिटनाई ॥
Deception, fraud and emotional attachment are eliminated,
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥
Jaa Ko Raakhahu Aap Gusaaee ||
जा कउ राखहु आपि गुसाई ॥
By those who are protected by the Lord of the World.
ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਰ ਸੋਊ ॥
Paathisaahu Shhathr Sir Sooo ||
पातिसाहु छत्र सिर सोऊ ॥
He is the Supreme King, with the royal canopy above His Head.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੂਸਰ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਊ ॥੩੭॥

नानक दूसर अवरु न कोऊ ॥३७॥

फाहे काटे मिटे गवन फतिह भई मनि जीत ॥
The noose of Death is cut and one's wanderings cease; victory is obtained when one conquers his own mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਥਿਤ ਪਾਈ ਫਿਰਨ ਮਿਟੇ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤ ॥੧॥

ਦ੍ਰੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Dhraalabh Dhaeh Kalijug Mehi Paaeiaa ||
द्रुलभ देह कलिजुग महि पाइआ ॥
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, you have obtained this human body, so very difficult to obtain.
ਫਿਰਿ ਇਆ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਚਰੈ ਨ ਹਾਥਾ ॥
Fir Eiaa Aousar Charai N Haathhaa ||
फिरि इआ अउसरु चरै न हाथा ॥
This opportunity shall not come into your hands again.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਤਉ ਕਟੀਅਹਿ ਫਾਸਾ ॥
Naam Japahu Tho Katteeahi Faasaa ||
नामु जपहु तउ कटीअहि फासा ॥
So chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and the noose of Death shall be cut away.
ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਨ ਜਾਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

फिरि फिरि आवन जानु न होई ॥
You shall not have to come and go in reincarnation over and over again,
ਏਕਹਿ ਏਕ ਜਪਹੁ ਜਪੁ ਸੋਈ ॥

एकहि एक जपहु जपु सोई ॥
If you chant and meditate on the One and Only Lord.

BABBA: One who knows God is a Brahmin.
ਬੈਸਨੋ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਚ ਧਰਮਾ ॥
Baisano Thae Guramukh Such Dhharamaa ||
बैसनो ते गुरमुखि सुच धरमा ॥
A Vaishnaav is one who, as Gurmukh, lives the righteous life of Dharma.
ਬੀਰਾ ਆਪਨ ਬੁਰਾ ਮਿਟਾਵੈ ॥
Beeraa Aapan Buraa Mittaavai ||
बीरा आपन बुरा मिटावै ॥
One who eradicates his own evil is a brave warrior;
ਤਾਹੂ ਬੁਰਾ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥
Thaahoo Buraa Nikatt Nehee Aavai ||
ताहू बुरा निकटि नही आवै ॥
No evil even approaches him.
ਬਾਧਿਓ ਆਪਨ ਹਉ ਹਉ ਬੰਧਾ ॥
Baadhhiou Aapan Ho Ho Bandhhaa ||
बाधिओ आपन हउ हउ बंधा ॥
Man is bound by the chains of his own egotism, selfishness and conceit.
ਦੋਸੁ ਦੇਤ ਆਗਹ ਕਉ ਅੰਧਾ ॥
Dhos Dhaeth Aageh Ko Andhhaa ||
दोसु देत आगह कउ अंधा ॥
The spiritually blind place the blame on others.
ਬਾਤ ਚੀਤ ਸਭ ਰਹੀ ਸਿਆਨਪ ॥
Baath Cheeth Sabh Rehee Siaanap ||
बात चीत सभ रही सिआनप ॥
But all debates and clever tricks are of no use at all.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਜਨਾਵਹੁ ਸੋ ਜਾਨੈ ਨਾਨਕ ॥੩੯॥
Jisehi Janaavahu So Jaanai Naanak ||39||
जिसहि जनावहु सो जानै नानक ॥३९॥
O Nanak, he alone comes to know, whom the Lord inspires to know. ||39||

भै भंजन अघ दूख नास मनहि अराधि हरे ॥
The Destroyer of fear, the Eradicator of sin and sorrow - enshrine that Lord in your mind.

Eiaa Sansaar Sagal Hai Supanaa ||
इआ संसारु सगल है सुपना ॥
This world is just a dream.
ਭਰਮੇ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
Bharamae Sur Nar Dhaevee Dhaevaa ||
भरमे सुरि नर देवी देवा ॥
The angelic beings, goddesses and gods are deluded by doubt.
ਭਰਮੇ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇਵਾ ॥
Bharamae Sidhh Saadhhik Brehamaevaa ||
भरमे सिध साधिक ब्रहमेवा ॥
The Siddhas and seekers, and even Brahma are deluded by doubt.
ਭਰਮਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਡਹਕਾਏ ॥
Bharam Bharam Maanukh Ddehakaaeae ||
भरमि भरमि मानुख डहकाए ॥
Wandering around, deluded by doubt, people are ruined.
ਦੁਤਰ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਮ ਇਹ ਮਾਏ ॥
Dhuthar Mehaa Bikham Eih Maaeae ||
दुतर महा बिखम इह माए ॥
It is so very difficult and treacherous to cross over this ocean of Maya.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੈ ਮੋਹ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥
Guramukh Bhram Bhai Moh Mittaaeiaa ||
गुरमुखि भ्रम भै मोह मिटाइआ ॥
That Gurmukh who has eradicated doubt, fear and attachment,
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਹ ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪੦॥

नानक तेह परम सुख पाइआ ॥४०॥
O Nanak, obtains supreme peace. ||40||

माइआ डोलै बहु बिधी मनु लपटिओ तिह संग ॥
Maya clings to the mind, and causes it to waver in so many ways.
ਮਾਗਨ ਤੇ ਜਿਹ ਤੁਮ ਰਖਹੁ ਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਹਿ ਰੰਗ ॥੧॥
Maagan Thae Jih Thum Rakhahu S Naanak Naamehi Rang ||1||
मागन ते जिह तुम रखहु सु नानक नामहि रंग ॥१॥
When You, O Lord, restrain someone from asking for wealth, then, O Nanak, he comes to love the Name. ||1||

MAMMA: The beggar is so ignorant
ਦੇਨਹਾਰ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਓ ਸੁਜਾਨਾ ॥
Dhaenehaar Dhae Rehiou Sujaanaa ||
देनहार दे रहिओ सुजाना ॥
The Great Giver continues to give. He is All-knowing.
ਜੋ ਦੀਨੋ ਸੋ ਏਕਹਿ ਬਾਰ ॥
Jo Dheeno So Eaekehi Baar ||
जो दीनो सो एकहि बार ॥
Whatever He gives, He gives once and for all.
ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਹ ਕਰਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥
Man Moorakh Keh Karehi Pukaar ||
मन मूरख कह करहि पुकार ॥
O foolish mind, why do you complain, and cry out so loud?
ਜਉ ਮਾਗਹਿ ਤਉ ਮਾਗਹਿ ਬੀਆ ॥
Jo Maagehi Tho Maagehi Beeaa ||
जउ मागहि तउ मागहि बीआ ॥
Whenever you ask for something, you ask for worldly things;
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਕੁਸਲ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਥੀਆ ॥
Jaa Thae Kusal N Kaahoo Thheeaa ||
जा ते कुसल न काहू थीआ ॥
No one has obtained happiness from these.
ਮਾਗਨਿ ਮਾਗ ਤ ਏਕਹਿ ਮਾਗ ॥
Maagan Maag Th Eaekehi Maag ||
मागनि माग त एकहि माग ॥
If you must ask for a gift, then ask for the One Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਪਰਹਿ ਪਰਾਗ ॥੪੧॥
